Came here for trivia night, and I had a blast! The trivia has a winner each round, which I prefer so if you have a bad round, you still have plenty of chances to win. Each round, the winner get $15 (which pays for a bucket of natty light). For bar food, the food is very good, especially the fries. Had a great time here the other night for trivia while visiting friends in town. It's a classic neighborhood bar in Saint Louis. Such a gem! The ONLY reason I couldn't give 5 stars is only because of how loud it is inside. Some sort of minor sound insulation would do wonders. Our server Shelly was training a new team member, and both of them were great, friendly, attentive, and incredibly thoughtful. We got some toasted ravs for an appetizer. They were so tasty and just perfect nostalgia. I had a burger--it was juicy. Fries are just ok. The pot roast is also really good but a little too salty. For me, it's too loud and crowded on the weekends but that's a personal preference, so if you're looking for that..by all means stop in on a Friday night! We were here on a friend's "best burger quest". Happy to say that while I didn't get one, the person on that personal quest loved their burger. He wasn't overly thrilled with the fries. I think that if you are getting fries that have seasoning on them, then the menu should say that... normally I ask but I went for a salad so I didn't think to do so. My Philly was sliced meat on a tasty bun with cheese whiz. There weren't any onions (or so it seemed), and while I'm a fan of cheese whiz, there was WAY too much on the sandwich. The meat was good... what I could taste of it. The salad was tasty and fresh and I liked the ranch dressing. One of my other pals got the house dressing and it was too sweet for them. (Although I didn't mind it. ) I am also not a fan of using baking sheets as plates. I think it's a cute concept unless they are warped and move as you try eating from them. I feel like I'm being harsh but honestly... love the place for drinking and watching sports. And the potato skins? They were fabulous!! Crunchy on the outside not mushy on the inside but perfect. Honestly I only came here for the Tuesday night trivia but the food was GOOD. Highly highly recommend the chicken and waffles sandwich. I realize that I had not yet reviewed their food! Definitely time for an update ... The number one thing that keeps me coming back to the Mack is their Smoked Gouda Mack n Cheese Bites. They are perfect bite size and have more gooey cheese inside than noodles. On my most recent visit, 1 order just wasn't enough, we polished off the first and promptly ordered a second. Their sandwiches and burgers are better than average. I have noticed that my burger is better on some days than others, but overall always tasty. Their pizza is St. Louis style thin crust and provel cheese. You can order a 9, 12, or 16 in pizza. On Sundays, you can get the 16 in pizza at half price. You can build your own or choose one of their pizzas. I personally prefer more sauce on my pizza. read more

Every so often, it is good to update the reviews of some of your favorite haunts. The Mack is close to my home, making it easy to grab a great char-grilled burger. Yesterday I stopped for a quick lunch and enjoyed a Four Cheese Burger. Did you hear that, Jack? Four Cheese! That kinda puts your Ultimate Cheeseburger to shame. My burger was char-grilled to a perfect medium rare and topped with cheddar, pepper jack, provel and american cheese. I paid the additional $1 and upgraded from regular fries to Criss-Cross Fries aka Waffle Fries. In addition to great burgers, they offer up an amazing grilled chicken and steak sandwich as well. I got the fried pickles, trashed wings, and Nashville Fries. We hit up The Mack on a Sunday to try out their 1/2 priced 16in pizzas. They turned out pretty good! I would consider it a classier and tastier version of Imo's - provel galore and a very good and crispy thin crust. I'd definitely echo the comments on family friendly for lunch and the atmosphere is definitely a tavern/local bar feel (but really clean!). Our only drawback of our visit was the service was a little overwhelmed but it was a packed house! So I would consider it a drawback of a popular place and we weren't upset with some drink mixups or a little longer service times. It's located in a quiet residential area that has a strip of eateries and bars right through it (Onesto, Grapeseed STL, The Copper Pig, Russell's on Macklind, Stan's Macklind Avenue Deli, SOHA Gallery, etc.). The Mack is a hang out for locals and good looking casual 20-30-40 somethings. It's divided into three rooms and features a bar, juke box, low tables, cocktail tables, DJ's and other entertainment , and a game room in the back with dart boards and bubble hockey. Bar-food includes sandwiches, pizzas, salads and appetizers, with special attention given to steak sandwiches (what they are known for). I like their taco pizza. Overall, The Mack is a fun, low-key hangout that is worth checking out. The only drawback I see is that the front and middle room are divided and fractured. So glad I listened to Yelp and added this to my bookmarks! I wanted to go out on a Saturday and thought The Mack would be the place to try for dinner and drinks. When we arrived the bar was packed with patrons enjoying food and drinks. We found a table in the back area and took our seats. Soon after, the waitress came over to bring our menus and offer us some drinks. She told us about a bucket of beer special so we went ahead and ordered it; why not? As we looked over the menu it become clear that we arrived during a Blues game (that expalins why it was so packed)! We were hearing cheers and moans/groans throughout our visit, but it was exciting! Our waitress came over with water and made some suggestions for dinner. I didn't want a pizza (even though it did look good) so I ordered the chicken sliders with honey mustard and the bf ordered a burger (recommendation made by Yelp). Our beers came out shortly afterwards and we just enjoyed the atmosphere and the Blues fans cheering. The waitress came over a few times to check in on us and kept us updated on our food orders. We weren't in a rush so it didn't really matter. We did appreciat it though. It was just nice to be at a bar enjoying life for a while. Our food came out and looked so good. The fries were hot and fresh and the chicken sliders were so cute looking-good choice! I had the honey mustard on the side and was happy with my order. I know the bf enjoyed his burger because he ate it all and didn't say much. Overall, The Mack is a good bar in the area and I can see myself going back for sporting events and good times! The meat was a little bland, so it really needed the other items to carry it. Pizza (chicken with white wine and mushrooms) - This was a good deal because of the half off 16" pizzas on Sundays. The chicken wasn't grilled chicken, it was breaded fried chicken. Definitely, enough to feed two. I wasn't a huge fan of the pizza. The chicken was and toppings weren't super flavorful. If you know the regulars here, it's one of the greatest bars in the world. If you don't know anybody here.....well....The service is hit or miss depending on if you're a regular. Some bartenders/servers are amazing no matter what. Other bartenders/servers will ignore you if they don't know you. The crowd at The Mack will look at you funny if they don't recognize you. Everybody knows each other here. Overall, the food is pretty good. Burgers and pizzas are the highlights. On Fridays, they have $5 burgers all day. On Mondays, they have $5 burgers from 5:00-10:00. Don't expect fancy drinks here. This is a low maintenance Budweiser/Bud Light zone. During the week, the crowd ranges from ages 20s to 40s, but it's a young crowd during the weekends. We chose this place as our New Year's Day, boy I am craving a huge burger location. If I were to pass by this place in a car I would never think about walking in. Based on some Yelp reviews and closeness of its location, we decided to try it! When you first go in, you enter in the bar, its small but has a decent amount of bar tables. There was a large group taking up most of them. So I noticed they had a secondary semi-separate dining room. We sat there. I had read reviews of slow service, but we sat down, had our drink order taken right away. I KNEW we were getting fried pickles after seeing a photo on yelp. No brainer on the appetizer. I chose the South-side burger and my buddy chose the Cheeseburger. I made a special request for my side to have both waffle fries and regular seasoned fries. They accommodated my request and notified that I would still have to pay the additional $1. Worth it to me so I can try both! The fried pickles came out and they were delish! They are chip style, and came with a different southwest style of sauce vs just ranch. I enjoyed it and saved it for some fry dipping! Our burgers came out and they were HUGE! I piled my optional LTO on top of the already high burger with onion straws, and bbq sauce. Cut it in half and dove in. It was cooked to my perfect medium, pink all the way thru. It was delicious and exactly what I needed after a night of a few cocktails. The iceberg lettuce had an enjoyable crisp when biting into the sandwich. I even heard my buddies crisp as he took a bite. The fries were great too. On my next visit I plan to stick with just the regular seasoned fries. I liked them a lot better than the waffle fries which were very large. I ended up taking half of the burger/fries home as I could not finish it! Only reason I didn't get it a full 5 star is it needs a bit of remodeling.
