Been going to Cedarhurst Cafe since Tom and Teri took it over. Their always cheerful, warm greetings are as welcome on a long workday as their great coffee , baked goods and wonderful atmosphere. And don't forget about Kate's awesome zucchini brownies! I work at a global conservation organization whose CT Field Office is in New Haven. My team and I not only have regular coffee runs tp Cedarhurst but also use it for offsite team meetings and catering for events. Cedarhurst cafe is perfect. The people working there are very friendly and the food is delicious. We were a large group of 6 but they were very happy and patient in taking all of our orders. I personally had the Belgian waffle w/ chocolate chips as well as a cappuccino. Both were great. The rest of the group loved their food as well giving praise for their avocado toast. We got egg sandwiches and waffles, and everything tasted terrific. It isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for in food, great coffee and excellent service. This little cafe is a neighborhood gem -- and we found it on Yelp! Our family of 4 went for Sunday breakfast/brunch and would have been happy to stay the whole day! We had waffles, avocado toast, eggs, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and smoothies. Everything was fresh and delicious! And the owner and his employees were absolutely delightful! My first visit to Cedarhurst Cafe was very educational. An experience so memorable that I went out and made a yelp! account just for this review. The service was amazing, and the food was delectable. The cafe has a beautiful atmosphere that leaves you wanting to come back again and again. Unfortunately, that atmosphere is occasionally shattered from the inappropriate mumbles from behind the counter. The emblazoned voice carrying profanities and tension throughout the dining room, came from none other than the owner! The other owner/manager attempted damage control, with little success. You could still hear the hostility creeping from the kitchen. Regardless of whether there was a problem with the inner workings of the cafe, or if it was a problem with a customer (even worse, if you ask me), it was really disappointing to have to encounter that sort of behavior in the middle of my morning. I really hope that management sees this post and considers the impact of their presence in the cafe. While I'd like to say that I'll be a repeat customer, I think I'll stick with my usual Krauszer's routine. read more

The service is very good and the owners are delightful, friendly people. I have been twice to the cafe, the first time for an iced matcha latte unsweetened (a rare option in coffee places) and today for an acai bowl. Both were delicious! I came into the cafe early last week for the first time after hearing how great this business was but I do not understand the rave reviews. While the design was extremely modern and appealing, the customer service was terrible. The woman who appeared to be the owner was extremely rude with minimal eye contact or conversation while I ordered my food/coffee. I witnessed her and her male counterpart talking very negatively and raising there voices in regard to an employee they recently fired. Lastly, which is what fully bothered me was my witnessing of the employees making a smoothie and using their bare hands to add ingredients. Extremely unsanitary. I definitely do not recommend this establishment to anyone, especially if you're in a hurry. read more

The house baked tea breads are delicious...Double Chocolate Banana bread and lemon blueberry are 2 of my favorites. The tuna salad plate and tuna melt are mouth watering. The staff is friendly. Tom and Terry,the owners are so friendly and kind. They make everyone feel like family. Being per friendly is another plus,which gets customers chatting and comparing pet stories. I don't get the rave reviews. The space is cool, if darkish and music could add something warmer to the place. And the coffee was good. But a tip: if someone asks you how the waffles are and you're a breakfast place, don't say "your average waffle." The egg sandwich was boring and on store bought bread. And it was buttered and grilled, which made it needlessly greasy. The avocado toast was better, but the egg was cold. Also the place was cold and people were wearing coats. My wife and I found what we thought was a lovely spot near our apartment for morning coffee and bagels. We decided to go back the next day and boy was that a mistake. We arrived shortly before 9 to find the place locked without a soul inside prepping for the day. Strike one. Shortly after 9, a young lady shows up late and unlocks the door. Staff running late, strike two. We go in and up to the counter and place our order. Incredibly, the you lady informs us that no lattes since the machine needs 30 minutes to warm up. Moreover, she tells us that this is unavoidable since they don't schedule until 9 on the dot. I was afraid to ask about bagels, as I imagined she would tell us the toaster needed to warm up too. Strike three and we decided to go elsewhere. To the unwary. Want to go here? Make sure you give it an hour after opening to show up. Working in downtown New Haven, I have the opportunity to try just about every lunch spot the city has to offer. I happened upon Cedarhurst Café when I was browsing Yelp the other day, so I thought I would give it a try. I will start off by saying that Cedarhurst Café is on the one section of Crown Street that is not well-traveled (between State and Orange), which is a shame for this little gem of a café. From the décor, to the service, to the food; I enjoyed my experience here from start to finish. The menu is small, but I imagine it changes daily. I ate a Caesar salad with chicken. It was fresh, a very generous portion, tasty, and reasonably priced; a luxury in a city where it often cost an arm and a leg for a decent lunchtime salad. The owners, a lovely married couple, were warm and welcoming and even brought us over some complimentary chocolate chip cookies to enjoy after our lunch. If they were trying to win us over, it worked!!! We will definitely be back for lunch again soon. read more
