It was my first time in New Haven and I was searching for first time foods that I must try while I was here. Other than New Haven Pizza, Google recommended I get a New Haven Bagel. They recommended I go to Olmo. I walked over on a sunny day and placed my order on the computer. I ordered an egg sandwich on an everything bagel with an iced coffee. I was excited to see what makes New Haven bagels so special. They did not have indoor seating so I had to sit outside in the heat. I started eating my egg sandwich and realized it was very chewy. It did not have the crispy, crunchy flavor that I was used to in New York City bagels. It took a while to eat it and experience the flavor. It is okay I guess. I wouldn't say I would switch over to New Haven bagels any time soon but it did the job. It is almost like the New Haven style pizza in the area. It is nice to try but I think I will stay with the classics back home.

Best bagels in New Haven! New Haven had a major bagel deficit until they came around. The cacio e pepe bagel is fantastic. I mostly stop by on weekend mornings and even though they are busy, the staff work quickly and efficiently. If a certain bagel flavor is showing as not available on the in store kiosk or online, it usually gets restocked very quickly if you allow a few minutes. Customer service is also great the staff are so friendly and helpful. Keep up the good work, Olmo!

Very busy but we ordered at a kiosk right away. I was excited to try a New Haven bagel, I got the everything everything with scallion cream cheese, toasted. Though my bagel did not look or taste toasted, it was overall okay.. a solid 3 stars but the service here is great so I bumped this place to 4 stars. I think it may have tasted better if I actually got my bagel toasted, it was just super chewy. Also, the give you lots of cream cheese which I love, but my cousin gets half the amount and says it enough.

Well, please excuse this uninformed schmuck for not knowing that there REALLY IS something known as a New Haven style bagel. Just do a little research like I did and you might be astonished to learn that a New Haven-style bagel is characterized by a unique, "steam-only" cooking method instead of traditional boiling, resulting in a lighter texture with a thin, crispy crust. They're described as having a soft, airy, and warm interior with a crisp, slightly chewy exterior and form the missing link between New York and Montreal style bagels. Well, now that you have that info, you should also know that the Olmo Bagel Shop is widely considered the home of the original "New Haven-style" bagel. Their bagel varieties include Original, Everything, Sesame, Everything Everything, Poppy, Cacio E Pepe, Onion Sea Salt, and Za'atar. Now, I'm sure you're wondering if that Everything Everything was a typo, and the answer is......no. Everything Everything is one of their specialties, described as "a savory delight using our unique house blend of sesame, black sesame, onion, garlic, poppy, Italian seasoning, herbs de Provence, sea salt, black pepper, cheddar, malt vinegar, Korean chili flake, nori, and tofu bacon bits". I guess that adequately explains the double "everything" and surely explains why I just had to buy one. We visited their booth at the Wallingford Garden Market today and were blown away by their gorgeous looking bagels, pricing, and fantastic customer service. All together, we bought two bagels at a very reasonable $2 a pop, and when our counter person found out it was our first crack at Olmo's bagels, he gifted us a third. Our three were an Original, an aforementioned Everything Everything, and the freebie was a Cacio E Pepe with "a generous amount of black pepper topped with a slice of caramelized provolone cheese, which gives this bagel its reddish hue". I enjoyed my Everything Everything for tonight's dinner with some cream cheese and smoked salmon. The bagel was very good, nice and chewy and all that spice made for a distinctive flavor that curiously reminded me a bit of Thanksgiving stuffing of all things. We split the Cacio E Pepe bagel for breakfast the next day and that was a smash hit as well, with plenty of flavor sitting on top of a caramelized provolone blanket. It was savory, decadent, and delicious! Well, next time we're in New Haven (and we can manage to parallel park), guess where we're headed for bagels?

Extremely good and worth the visit. Efficient kiosk-based ordering system. I came around lunchtime on a Wednesday and it only took ~5 minutes for my order to come out. I got a toasted everything bagel with egg and cheese, and I added a sausage patty. The egg was perfectly cooked (fried to soft yolk) and the bagel was marvelous. The price was pretty reasonable for the area ($10 before tax and tip). I'd recommend this as an easy default breakfast if you are visiting New Haven.

I've had their sandwiches several times and its always consistently great! My husband has been eating here for years. I usually get the turkey, egg, and cheese with picked onions and today Arugula was added....OMG! They provide fast service and are still nice. It gets busy in the tight space and I know why - it's so good! Not easy to park around there, however it's still worth the hassle for a to-go order. I don't eat from here often, however, if I was closer, it would be a problem.

I had a craving for one of Olmo's bacon, egg (well done), and cheese sandwiches on a toasted plain bagel this morning and as always, they delivered. The place was packed, but despite the chaos, the customer service was excellent and the food was absolutely worth it. As great as the bagels and sandwiches are, and they're definitely worth both the price and the wait, today's real surprise was a complimentary chocolate chip cookie and it was outstanding. Honestly, I'd put it up against just about anyone's. It even tops Insomnia Cookies and East Rock Breads' cookie, which is saying a lot. I love this place, and I think you will too. Enjoy yourself folks!

Came in on a Saturday morning and it was quite crowded. Appears to be a very popular college student spot and not a peaceful place at least on the weekend. Ordering ahead is probably the way to go. Besides the overall disorganized feel of being in the shop, they were playing really grating music that was basically just a hyper beat and made the whole feel even more frenzied. Got a cold brew which was not very strong and probably a third of it was oat milk. The bagel itself was very good - fresh, soft, with slightly crispy outside and overall unique feel for a bagel. Got it with scallion cream cheese and egg and it was a generous freshly cooked two fried eggs on the sandwich. So five star bagel. But the experience was unpleasant and the coffee left something to be desired.

I could not be happier that I came to Olmo! I was visiting for the weekend and needed some breakfast before my trip home. Friendly and quick service, and food was absolutely delicious - the highlight of the food I had while here! Definitely recommend the Everything Everything bagel. One note is that there is nowhere to sit inside but once the weather is warmer there are tables outside. I will 100% be coming back on my next visit!

Be prepared to navigate difficult parking, but the staff's efficiency and warmth more than compensate. It's also worth noting for planning purposes that Olmo Bagels is not particularly geared towards children, with no highchairs available. This gem offers an incredible atmosphere (8/10) perfect for adults looking to savor a truly outstanding bagel. I will be back!

This was my 1st time ordering from Olmo but definitely not the last time. Placed my order and received it a timely fashion. I unwrapped a perfect breakfast. I am not normally a bagel for breakfast kinda girl but I figured I go off the reviews and give this place a try and it was worth it. I received a great breakfast, bagel was toasted with butter, crispy on outside nice and soft on the inside, bacon perfectly cooked, egg done well and cheese just nice amd melty. This bagel was udderly perfect. I highly recommend them just off this 1st experience with Olmo. I also ordered cinnamon raisin cream cheese on a sesame bagel that I ate later that day which was good but I am completely sold on the breakfast bagel !

Ordered my usual sandwich today, and I feel like it keeps getting bigger? In this economy? For $12 I literally got the most monstrous breakfast sandwich. I have no clue how they can afford to add this much bacon to each sandwich. I'm a person for whom a city is made or broken by their breakfast sandwich game, and if Olmo left New Haven I would probably have to move. Keep going here so they can keep putting insane amounts of bacon on each sandwich. The cinnamon raisin cream cheese is also wild. read more

These aren't really bagels. At least not in the classic New York style. They are smaller. The outside is overcooked, almost crunchy, to my taste and relative to a traditional bagel. I know they are popular and have many fans. Everybody likes what they like. But in my view it's not a bagel and not for me. read more

I always receive great bagels and service at Olmo. Stop by or get your deliver early. Otherwise you may miss out or have to make another selection. I live about 30 minutes from Olmo. So when I'm in the area, I make every effort to stop for a bagel. My last visit there, I bought a half dozen. If you've never been to Olmo, I hope you try them. I also hope your experience is great like all of mine have been. read more

If I still lived in Brooklyn and had to walk to my favorite bagel shop and it took 15 minutes to get there, this is where I want to end up. Have frequented here and they still hands down have the best bagels. Had to introduce my nephew to the delicacy that is bagel with smoked salmon. Let's say he was thoroughly impressed. I also like using them for catering when needed. Fast service and easy to order. read more

Awesome. Delicious and the staff is super helpful/friendly. No matter how busy it is it always seems to take roughly the same amount of time. Tip: Order online from your phone a few minutes before you walk in. Then mention your order to the first person you see - they'll use their handheld to immediately start your order. Otherwise it will get done and put on a shelf to grab. If you order in person, they'll come outside and call your name and hand you your order. Also, I've always found that if I want a table, one always opens up when I'm ready to sit. If you want one, you will get one - just the endless circle of life, dude There are also a few tables around the corner on Whitney. Great place. read more

In the words of Larry David - "pretty good, pretty pretty, pretty good. BEC - egg was cooked as ordered. Bacon was real and crisp. I didn't get a lot of flavor from the bagel, I ordered an everything. It was softer than I like but overall, a very good BEC. Olmo - A New Haven Essential Rating: I had to see if the hype was real--with thousands of 5.0 ratings on Google and Too Good To Go, the bar was set incredibly high. After visiting, I can confirm that Olmo absolutely lives up to the reputation. We grabbed a half-dozen with a great mix: Everything, Sesame, Everything Everything, Onion Sea Salt, Za'atar, and Rosemary. Even without any schmear, eating them plain was an experience. They were incredibly fresh, and the variety of flavors is impressive. The Onion Sea Salt and the Za'atar were the standouts for me--just delicious. We took them home to build our own breakfast sandwiches, and they provided the perfect foundation. A few things to know before you go: Seating: The inside is purely for ordering/pickup, so there is no indoor seating. There is limited seating outside, but this is primarily a grab-and-go spot. The Vibe: Even though it was busy, the staff was remarkably kind and efficient. Must-Try: If you are a bagel fan, this place is an absolute must-visit. I'll definitely be back soon to try one of their specialty sandwiches on-site. Do yourself a favor and go get you some! read more

Stopped by this place for lunch when visiting Yale. Affordable, friendly staff, and delicious food. I appreciate that they have outdoor seating as well. This was my first time trying an okonomiyaki bagel and I love the fusion of flavors here. I got the everything bagel with it. Yes I waited a long time for my bagel, but it was absolutely worth it. I cannot recommend this place enough, especially because they also accommodate vegans and have vegan cream cheese. The gentleman at the front managing the DoorDash/uber orders and crowd control was amazing and very helpful regarding updates on my order. I love a bagel, and being back in the northeast means I needed to get at least one bagel. Went to Olmo at around 9:30 AM on Saturday. The interior of the shop is very cozy and was quite crowded. We ordered on these screens after waiting for about 5 min. We were all asked to wait outside, which had ample seating. About 15 min later, a man came out to hand us our food. I ordered a toasted everything everything bagel with spinach and artichoke schmear. The bagel was crunchy and dense which was great, but I really loved the flavor of the cream cheese. This is the best bagel shop I've been to ...ever. We got a variety and ate every bit. I got the toasted everything bagel with beet schmere and added cucumbers. It was all "stupid good", as my son said. Others got the smoked salmon which has very generous portions. Outstanding. I didn't take pics because I was busy eating. There's a reason this bagel spot is the best! So glad to have this gem in New Haven. You know it's good when there is always a line out the front! The bagel sandwich itself is absolutely delicious you can taste the freshness and quality of flavors. The smears are made fresh, I had the spicy scallion and it's actually spicy! Being from NJ, I had high expectations for this bagel shop, and it delivered! Unfortunately, I visited during Yale's parents' weekend, so there was a long line, and our order took a while. But I have to give Olmo credit--they were super efficient and handled the crowd well. The ambiance was nice--ordering inside on a kiosk was easy, and there were plenty of seats outside to sit and enjoy your food. In keeping with the spirit of a "wine bar," Vinas offered a flight of 4 wines in 3 ounce glasses, and after hearing about our food choices and wine preferences, Mike chose the wines for us, giving us a chance to taste some less familiar offerings. We had the Felino Malbec 2024 (Argentina), which became our favorite for its full-bodied and deep flavor. Our second wine was a unique Don Abel (private label) from Wallingford CT, made by one of the relatives of the owner, specially for Vinas. This one reminded us of the local wines one might receive in a B&B in the Loire Valley in France. The final two wines were both from Chile: Reserva Carmenere 2023 and Cabernet Sauvignon Marques de Casa Concha 2022. Both were excellent wines. It was great fun to have Mike choose the wines for us, and we really enjoyed the variety that the flight offerings gave to us. Of course, we had to try a dessert, and Mike recommended the Toffee Cake. We had heard that the owner claimed that some people cried with joy after eating it. Although we restrained ourselves, we had to agree that this was an extraordinary conclusion to a fabulous meal. Overall, this was a great experience for us, and we heartily recommend Vinas Wine Bar and Tapas for a relaxing and welcoming dinner. Some reviews I had read suggested that the portions were too small for the price. I have to disagree. My partner and I love food, and this was plenty. And the price was reasonable. Including tip and tax, we spent about $75 each.

The ceviche was excellent, everything was cooked throughout by the citrus. The portion size is small for $19 and it could have used a side of bread or tortillas to soak up the delicious citrus based broth. The skewers were also excellent. They were cooked perfectly, super tender, juicy and flavorful. They cooked them with a seasoning and had a delicious chimi on top.

I recently visited the East Coast to see family and stumbled upon Olmo on Yelp. We decided to give it a try on a weekend, and wow, it was bustling! Despite the crowd, the staff was very personable, and the place had a wonderful local community feel. Honestly, this was one of the best bagels I've had on the East Coast! I got the caccio e pepe with spicy scallion smear, and it was absolutely on point. I'm dreaming of it as I type this. I can't wait to come back and try their brunch. A quick tip for first-timers: If you visit on a weekend, it can get really crowded. You might not notice it right away, but they have kiosks where you can quickly make a bagel order. Otherwise, you can order at the counter. The staff does their best to be attentive and will give you a heads up if you look a bit clueless or overwhelmed. Awesome experience! We took advantage of a sunny day and sat on the patio for dinner. Sophia was our server and she was lovely. It was Wednesday, which is $20 bottle of wine day, so that was a no brainer. We enjoyed the cheese board, shared a small bucatini and a small fusilli. I love that you can make pasta into a small plate so you can try more than one. Both pastas were outstanding in flavor, texture and presentation. The cheese board came with lots of other snacks and the presentation was beautiful. I have to say, it's too bad that two people went out of their way on here to tarnish the reputation of this restaurant without trying their food, experiencing the staff, or atmosphere because they wouldn't allow dogs. Hopefully people will recognize that. It is evident that this restaurant is built on a passion for food and the people who love to eat it. We will be back and bringing friends! read more

Long time customer here, finally putting pen to paper. Watching Olmo adapt during COVID has been a absolute masters class in the pivot. As a business owner myself, I've been inspired by their ability to make it work during the most difficult circumstances. I have to admit that I didn't love their very first bagels a few years back, but I kept coming back for the great sandwiches and people. Meanwhile, their bagel recipes evolved in a way that truly reflects this business's commitment to getting it jussssst right and they are now my favorite bagels, with just the right texture and flavor. If they happen to be out of bagels or you just want a change of pace the Olive Oil Rolls are a thing of beauty, absolutely out of this world. Had the highly anticipated first dinner experience at Olmo last night with the family. Very interesting and quaint atmosphere with the open Pasta kitchen and multi-level seating. We shared pasta plates of the Mushroom, Meatball and Bolognaise recipes. Very tasty flavors with the fresh pasta cooked to perfection. Not sure which one was my favorite. Had the rotisserie chicken that was very moist with an amazingly delicious crispy outside. We topped it off by sharing the cheese cake with ginger sauce that was the perfect amount of sweat and ginger flavor. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. The Chef's and Management team were visible and excited to be open. Very clean atmosphere with a positive vibe! Can't wait to try the grab and go some day soon at lunch. read more

My favorite restaurant in new haven hands down. I've never eaten anything that's come out of this kitchen that didn't truly BLOW ME AWAY and that's not an exaggeration. My friend and frequent dining companion teases me that after the first bite of anything new I groan "omg this is the best thing I've ever eaten". Cutest little spot, great ambiance, great service, but above all else, food like really doesn't exist other places in new haven. It's everything we needed.
