We stopped into East Rock Coffee for a coffee to go. It is a cute, small shop. You order inside and then you wait for your order outside, and pick it up at the window. The line wasn't too long. We ordered a medium roast drip coffee, so it was ready super fast. It had a great flavor! The prices were fair, and the staff member who took our order was really friendly. Not much more to add, other than I'd definitely recommend stopping in if you're in the area!

Pleasant staff, small selection allows you to get right to the point.......COFFEE!!! Outdoor seating available, nice neighborhood. IN RESPONSE to owner Heather question: Let me start by saying I pride myself on giving honest reviews and give credit to businesses for effort. I understand a business could be having an off day, with that said I wish you would have messaged me instead of writing on my post....but my fellow YELPERS should know the truth.....if it was not for your kind staff my review would have been "2 STAR "for beverage quality. I am an experienced espresso drinker, I ordered a latte and when I try new places I order a small, to check espresso ratio, in my experience a small is easier to balance if it's not a house specialty...the latte was incredibly small for the price and the taste was bitter and light, I added a DaVinci shot which overpowered the espresso, this should not have happened and made the latte taste terrible. So as you can see I omitted the beverage in my original review to give the benefit of the doubt that it could of just been an off day....however you asked and now you know....latte was terrible.

East Rock Coffee has the best coffee in New Haven! I get their caramel iced coffee which has never disappointed and isn't terribly overpriced either. The Bacon Egg and Cheese was also good. Though the bacon wasn't crispy, and the bagel was likely store bought, the egg is fresh and works well with the cheddar cheese. I would still order the BEC again, but I'm looking forward to trying it on a croissant next time. The have fun bagel orders, like peanut butter and banana, or a pesto sandwich. Their pastries look fresh and delicious too, including their gluten free options. The workers are kind and the service is quick when ordering drinks. It's a small cafe, with very limited indoor seating but still has great ambiance, carried by the natural lighting and cute sketchbooks for those looking to doodle or leave a note while waiting for their coffee.

Roasted: this one will be short and sweet. Don't go here. Coffee is horrible. My mocha was undrinkable - it tasted liked watered down hot chocolate like when you put too much water with a Swiss miss packet. They opened a few minutes early which was nice and they have cute outdoor seating but that's about it. Unroasted: love the location of a coffee shop hidden inside a neighborhood. No seats on the inside but a few really nice tables setup outside. Tables outside are not set up for coffee since there is slated. The staff was okay and they did greet. Was happy for the sugar free flavor option that is available. My latte was one of the worst I have ever had. It was way too hot for a latte and the coffee shot was burnt. I couldn't finish my coffee. Shame for such a great location.

Makes perfect espressos like machiato and cortado. Love it! Cozy ambience . Perfect Baristas.

I used to go here when I worked nearby and it was open under a different name. It looks pretty much the same, but I assume the new owner has relaxed the 'no device' policy that was in force a few years ago. This was the perfect spot to meet a friend who happened to be passing through. I had a cappuccino, which was just right and served in a huge mug. My friend had a chai, which she really liked. I ordered the oatmeal and I was surprised when a big bowl showed up with lots of berries on top. I just read about the owner's focus on the community and giving back, which is great. That's just the icing on the cake... or maybe the scone. It was nice to be back in this comfy spot.

Surly and dreadful service with mediocre coffee. Plenty of other places in East Rock for great coffee and better service.

Luke warm drip coffee and rewarded stale breakfast sandwiches. Nice seating area outside but the food and coffee just aren't good.

I can only speak to the Miel latte but it was awesome! I love that they offer oat milk as a dairy alternative.

If you enjoy the flavors of Indian food as well as one of those quick service, hot chicken restaurants you probably would enjoy Hot Murga. The chicken sandwich comes in five spice levels from no heat to super hot. I got the standard hot, and it has some kick, but it wasn't overpowering. Then again I enjoy spicy food. I also ordered their spiced mac & cheese. Again, not spicy at all, but flavorful. Also a good portion as I have leftovers for later. I had my food delivered, but this establishment is close to the Yale campus and street parking can be a bit tricky on Howe St. and around Broadway. I've been inside of the space once when it was a different restaurant some years ago, it's not a large space, but I'm pretty sure comfortable if you decided to dine in. If you ever find yourselves at a crossroad between wanting Chick-fil-A and Indian food, this would be a great alternative.

A fun take on fried chicken, but with "Indian" flavors. I got the Murga Sandwich (hot) and…read moreBadmaash's Mac & Cheese (medium). Honestly, I didn't think the Murga Sandwich itself had too much flavor - the fry was good and the chicken was juicy & crispy, it was just a lacking seasoning and even "hot" was not super spicy. The spice itself also tasted very one dimensional - just spicy, with no seasoning. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the sandwich itself, but would be interested in trying some of their other sauces. The Badmaash Mac & Cheese was the redeeming item of the meal though - this is basically a Mac & Cheese, covered in tikka sauce & their spicy sauce, and topped with fried chicken. It's definitely a unique flavor, and I think the tikka masala sauce went really well with the cheesy mac texture. Definitely seems like the kind of late night out comfort craving, because it is super heavy. p.s. - pro tip, the sandwich itself is $12 but the sliders are $6 and definitely larger than half of a sandwich (probably closer to 2/3rds). So I'd get 2 sliders for $12 instead of a sandwich.

This place is small, unapologetic, and full of character. Decorative firewood stacked with intention, walls filled with wine corks, and #10 tomato cans repurposed as pizza stands. Walk in and you immediately catch the vibe, exposed brick, distressed plaster, a slightly industrial, almost factory-style feel that somehow still feels warm and welcoming. The centerpiece of the room is the wood-fired oven, running hot and glowing with that perfect orange flame. The aroma of burning wood hits you right away and sets the tone. From that moment on, the culinary experience is in motion. We ordered The Mootz and Breaking My Meatballs. Both pies are built on a very thin, tender crust with beautiful leoparding. The dough is flavorful and clearly well-fermented. Sauce is applied with restraint, just enough to support the dough and cheese without overpowering them, and it delivers a clean, bright tomato flavor. Breaking My Meatballs was the standout. Homemade meatballs, herbed ricotta, cherry peppers, mozzarella, and that same balanced sauce. The cherry peppers bring a sharp vinegar tang that cuts perfectly through the richness of the ricotta and meatballs. Every bite hits a different note, and it all works together. Easily one of my favorites. The crust across the board was thin and tender with a delicate smoky char from the wood fire, exactly what you want from this style. Bottom line: Great spot. Excellent pizza. Super friendly staff

One 6 Three is an unusual name - it's a small and cozy spot with few tables and bar seating, set in a residential neighborhood. We tried the gluten free crust (available only in 12") American margherita pie and added mushrooms in half of it. The wood fired crust was well done, I really liked it. Lots of garlic, yum. However, the tomatoes on it were raw and that didn't feel very good. Also, there were no condiments offered on the side- like oregano- is that normal in a pizza place? Maybe I need to try more pizza places :)
