Cute little spot! I love the location of this shop, easy to park nearby. I had a pastry, breakfast sandwich and latte. I got my latte with maple cardamom syrup and it was delicious! I love that this business has homemade syrups. The staff is super friendly and transparent in terms of wait time for food. On a busy Thursday morning, two people managed all orders, beverages and food which was impressive with a consistent line of customers. We stopped into East Rock Coffee for a coffee to go. It is a cute, small shop. You order inside and then you wait for your order outside, and pick it up at the window. The line wasn't too long. We ordered a medium roast drip coffee, so it was ready super fast. It had a great flavor! The prices were fair, and the staff member who took our order was really friendly. I am an experienced espresso drinker, I ordered a latte and when I try new places I order a small, to check espresso ratio, in my experience a small is easier to balance if it's not a house specialty...the latte was incredibly small for the price and the taste was bitter and light, I added a DaVinci shot which overpowered the espresso, this should not have happened and made the latte taste terrible. So as you can see I omitted the beverage in my original review to give the benefit of the doubt that it could of just been an off day....however you asked and now you know....latte was terrible. read more

A good place for a quick bite or any coffee/tea drink. East Rock is nestled on a street corner in Prospect Hill. You will witness many Yalies pop in and out of here to pick up their online orders. Their food menu is limited to different egg sandwiches and bagels and toast, including two smoked salmon items served on bagel or toast. I had the Works--Smoked salmon, tomato, red onion, capers, and cream cheese on an everything bagel--which was good. The chai tea latte was very good. There are a few tables and chairs set up inside. Wow, mindblowingly rude. Barista ignored me to chat with the patron who walked in after me. I decided to try to kill with kindness, but he didn't even say "you're welcome" when I said thank you. I honestly wish I had recorded the interaction because I felt like it couldn't possibly be happening. I know that when people treat others with such inexplicable unkindness it's generally about them, and I hope the young man working at noon today can access therapy to get the help he needs, but it also kind of sucks as a patron, you know? East Rock Coffee has the best coffee in New Haven! I get their caramel iced coffee which has never disappointed and isn't terribly overpriced either. The Bacon Egg and Cheese was also good. Though the bacon wasn't crispy, and the bagel was likely store bought, the egg is fresh and works well with the cheddar cheese. I would still order the BEC again, but I'm looking forward to trying it on a croissant next time. The have fun bagel orders, like peanut butter and banana, or a pesto sandwich. Roasted: this one will be short and sweet. Don't go here. Coffee is horrible. My mocha was undrinkable - it tasted liked watered down hot chocolate like when you put too much water with a Swiss miss packet. They opened a few minutes early which was nice and they have cute outdoor seating but that's about it. Unroasted: love the location of a coffee shop hidden inside a neighborhood. No seats on the inside but a few really nice tables setup outside. Tables outside are not set up for coffee since there is slated. The staff was okay and they did greet. Was happy for the sugar free flavor option that is available. My latte was one of the worst I have ever had. It was way too hot for a latte and the coffee shot was burnt. I couldn't finish my coffee. Convenient location in East Rock next to P&M market. There is very limited seating inside, but there is a lot of seating shared with the market. Be prepared to wait if you don't order ahead, their online ordering system is easy to use and I recommend doing that and then heading over if you don't have time to wait. Baristas are really friendly and both hot and iced options are great!! They always say hi even when I am picking up an online order. read more

This place is small and due to COVID restrictions they allow only one person in the store at a time. No cash, card only (square chip). You can order ahead at orderERC.com and pick up is at the window on the right side of the building next to the parking lot. I had a very solid oat milk iced latte from here, it was smooth and I could taste the cocoa notes from the beans. It was way better than Blue State's, and probably my favorite in East Rock. I wanted to know if the bagels they had were vegan/had no egg, but they did not know. I was told that the bagels here are pretty good, and they have some plant based friendly spreads (hummus, avocado with pickled red onion) and sandwiches that at first glance appear vegan, like the tofu banh mi. They also have fresh whole beans if you want to brew at home and that appear to be in house roasted, not imported from another third wave roaster. I would be weary of ordering from here if I had allergies/dietary restrictions, because they didn't know if certain items were egg free/vegan. If you are in the neighborhood and need some coffee I would stop by. read more

I used to go here when I worked nearby and it was open under a different name. It looks pretty much the same, but I assume the new owner has relaxed the 'no device' policy that was in force a few years ago. This was the perfect spot to meet a friend who happened to be passing through. I had a cappuccino, which was just right and served in a huge mug. My friend had a chai, which she really liked. I ordered the oatmeal and I was surprised when a big bowl showed up with lots of berries on top. I just read about the owner's focus on the community and giving back, which is great. Their espressos genuinely seem lighter than others in flavor but equally potent to give you that morning buzz you're looking for. If your tummy is rumbling, they have pastries and sandwiches that are served on either bread or bagel. These tasty carbs are sourced semi-locally out of New York. All around fair prices! Since the place is small and popular, I wouldn't head there if I was already running late, but if you got a couple minutes to spare to wait on your magical beverage, pop on in, a smiling barista will greet ya. If you like really really good coffee, this is the place to go in New Haven. They have excellent coffee as well as delicious mocha lattes. I did not order food because I was just looking for some caffeine, but the food also looked good. The vibe of the shop is also a reason to come. People are sitting inside and outside talking, reading, and enjoying the day. They are a "no computer zone" to promote conversation and just experiencing the place so that is an added bonus in my opinion. ERC is everyone's go-to coffee shop in East Rock for a reason. The baristas are friendly, the pastries are fresh and the coffee is always brewing! ERC is one of the cutest little coffee shops I've ever been to - the inside houses only 5 or 6 tables and they have a no laptops policy which I've come to appreciate. There are also a few tables outside (including a large community table) for hot days in the summer and spring. I work in the area and come to this coffee shop almost everyday (I will go out of my way on my days off). I love everything about this place. This place just gets it. Simple and good! I asked my friend to come back for dinner I was eyeing the "fat bird" ( turkey & Brie) and the "Fig & pig" prosciutto and chèvre). The menu had so many delightful surprises ( chèvre & Brie's are the cheeses of choice here) for great prices. No wifi, no phones, no laptops. And you will happily comply.
