This place was great. My wife and I found it because we were looking for a place to have breakfast, drink coffee, and work for a couple hours that would allow us to bring the dog. They were very friendly, the atmosphere was good, and the dog was very welcome. The food was acceptable and the coffee was good. We'll likely return. I didn't give a full 5 stars mainly because the bathroom was dirty and the toilet barely works. Also the food is nothing to write home about, but fine for a place that is really more of a coffee shop. Reviewer Joe C is way out of line. I saw nobody squatting when I was there, though that's management's business and they can stop free refills if it's a problem. It seems backwards for one to care so much about the bottom line of a local business to trash it on Yelp and refuse to go there. read more

Ordered a fresh squeezed OJ because I had it before here and it was great. Only oranges and no added water. But I got it today and it definitely had added water. How disappointing!! I really wanted to love this place. It had a cool vibe and the coffee was good. But, the service was very disappointing. Our group of five ordered lunch (assortment of sandwiches and wraps) and it was brought out in three separate shifts over a 25 minute period. It was so weird to not get the food at the same time or even just minutes apart. On top of that, the food was not very good. The buffalo chicken wrap had more sauce than ingredients. The cappuccino I had here was just what I needed after a hurried and hectic day in New York. I got back to New Haven, took a deep breath and looked for a new place to try. The atmosphere was quiet (a few students, soft music etc.) and the place was clean and inviting. The front of the space is a large glass window overlooking the street where there seems to be plenty of parking. The cappuccino was rich and hot and well put together. Often I need to add some sugar or cinnamon to a subpar cappuccino to help get it down. This one required no such assistance. The small and the medium sizes both have two shots so you can decide from there how much foam/ milk you want while still getting a nice kick. The "chillness" of the atmosphere was a little too much after a while and I'm glad I ordered my drink to go. I felt a little bit like a drunk who's wandered into a library. But that's fine. People need to study, and in New Haven you have almost no choice but to tailor your business to the tastes and proclivities of the local students. There are a lot of nice cafés in the area, this one shouldn't be overlooked. read more

I stopped by during the afternoon of July 27th, hoping to get a cup of coffee before heading back to the office for the remained of the afternoon. An older gentleman was in line, just finishing up his order. The server finished his order and brought it to him. Then, she joined her counterpart who was very busily putting together what turned out to be a Grub Hub order. She made minimal eye contact with me, but did not say one word, as she continued to help her colleague put together theorder. Both of them passed in front of me several times without even saying "I'll be with you in a minute" or "I'm so sorry for the wait - we'll be with you in a sec." They checked the computer for more orders. The phone rang - they answered it. I waited for a total of 6 minutes without even an acknowledgement. The Grub Hub guy gets high praise for customer service. He held the door for me as I left. (I have been here before and it has always been a really nice experience. Perhaps they were having a bad day...though that shouldn't matter in the service industry. My training taught me that if you have a living, breathing customer in front of you, take care of him or her first). read more

First of all, this place has the best chicken caesar wrap I've had in New Haven. It's hard to say just what exactly makes it so delectable, but a big part is the dressing. It's really rich in flavor and gives the sandwich a great consistency--juicy, but not at all squishy. The chicken breast itself is fantastic, and the lettuce is way above the standard icy/crunchy, flavorless romaine that you'd find at some cornerstore deli - it is soft and almost chewy, which I mean in the best sense. As for the rest of the menu, I have yet to have something I haven't loved. The biscuits are delicious (and big!), and the place makes a mean chai latte--I used to think Blue State had the best, but I've changed my mind. Be sure to try their London Fog as well--I had never had one before, but now it's a regular of mine. Finally, the place just has really nice atmospherics in general--it's spacey but not enormous, serving as a delightful, comfortable place to have a snack or meal while studying or reading a book. Finally, the staff and owners here are just fantastic. Tom and Teri, the owners, are really warm and friendly, very laid-back folks. The staff are very pleasant as well--one guy actually remembers my little preferences and makes sure my items are prepared the way I like, without my needing to even ask. First off, the couple who owns and runs this place is suuuuper endearing. Second, they make an incredibly delicious egg sandwich that is pretty much unlike any other egg sandwich I've had, and I've had a lot of egg sandwiches. Seriously, that bread is dank. I dig the decor/vibe in this place, though some may find that it's trying too hard for lil old New Haven. But, I say bump that mentality; New Haven is hip. Plenty of seating in this place with free wifi, making it seemingly a great place to do work. But I will say if you're looking for a quieter place to work, I recommend either coming here not at a mealtime because the food is so popular and draws people OR bringing some noise canceling headphones. So many things to like! Decor was unusual, especially the floor -- textured, unique, beautiful. It's those simple things that make a difference: loved the keyed bathroom (clean). While the design of this cafe and the close proximity to where I stay is enough to get me here, the food and coffee is just not enough to make me want to stay long. I'm not sure why the food is so bad. I've had a bagel which crumbled apart while I ate it, a salad that was rushed and sloppy, and a cafe americano that someone wasted the coffee all down the side of it. I really want to like this place but I think it's slack. I want to know that I can at least get a descent muffin here, but I'm not convinced so far. read more

We had 2 Bagels (one Everything with Cream Cheese and one Sesame with Bacon, Egg, and Cheese) and 2 Lattes (Standard and Honey Vanilla), all of which were delightful. Loved this place! I had a lunch meeting here and ordered a latte and the focaccia sandwich. Unfortunately they were out of focaccia, but the manager was very apologetic and happily swapped out the focaccia for a different bread to create the sandwich, he even brought me an apple and cookie to make up for it. The sandwich was delicious (all freshly made!), latte was top notch and a solid medium size, and the atmosphere was perfect for the meeting and getting work done (they even have a printer there to use). They have a variety of seating options- low tables, high tables, window seating with fun exercise ball chairs - and the staff were all friendly and down to earth. It is also tucked away just far enough from Yale to avoid being packed with students. Will definitely be going back soon! read more

The atmosphere was great, not overly crowded like many other places that are in the heart of the city. Although not very spacious given all the furniture they have going on. The menu was not that extensive as far as food items go. I really wanted a salad seeing that other reviewers were able to get one but when I asked I was told they only had small side salads to which I can add items to. Seemed like too much of a hassle so I went for a sandwich. Prices are a bit high, I paid over $12 for an egg salad sandwich and a latte. Stopped in on a Sunday morning to just grab a quick bite to eat. At the counter, I asked if they had any recommended items that would rock my socks. Tom, the owner, jumped into the conversation and stated that I should definitely try the egg sandwich. Given his confidence, I had no option but to comply. He then recommended a couple add-ons that would add $2 to the total, but he said "I'm gonna hook you up" and he gave me the free upgrade: Bagel with double egg. Tom also said he would make it himself. When it arrived in its gooey goodness, the cheese was melted and the bagel soft (made by a mom and pop bagel joint here in Connecticut by a guy from Queens). And Tom came down and sat with me for the next 20 minutes while I ate it. In his strong Brooklyn accent, he welcomed me to New Haven and offered advice on a broad range of issues. Oh, did I mention the decor is incredible? They have old-school wood paneling that gives it a nice rustic feel and these yoga-ball chairs that are off-the-charts comfortable. This coffee house is cute but not functional for the capacity of need. The breakfast food is served unreasonably slow and questionably cooked. They have ok food options. They need to add dedicated staff to cook as my egg that was sunny side up was eek sunny side raw with uncooked egg white. Awesome coffees! We went in when they had the local coffee roaster in house giving out samples of the dark, medium and light roasts. We fell in love with the Bolivian Juspajara (medium roast). Went here for a late breakfast. Great location and good interior. Different kinds of seating depending on what youre looking for. Small but complete menu with coffees sandwhiches salads smoothies and other snacks. My egg sandwhich on wheat with veggies was cooked perfectly and didnt have too many of each ingredient (spinach tomato onion cheese) so nothing was falling out. My iced chai latte was very watered down with milk so it didnt really have that chai kick. Took just under 20 mins to get the sandwich, the chai was right away. I will go back for food/friendly customer service and location. read more

What an awesome addition to the neighborhood. Great cafe with really reasonable priced drinks. I love the variety of seating -- bar style along the window, some regular tables, some low tables with exercise ball seats! It was still pretty cold in here on the admittedly freezing cold New Haven day when I visited -- that's my only complaint, that the place could've used a bit more heat.
