From the moment I walked into Cavalry, I felt like a valued customer. I was promptly greeted and taken back for my service (even though I arrived 15 minutes early). I was also offered a beverage (champagne!) to enjoy. Something really important to me in a salon is hygiene; I appreciated how the pedicure tubs were protected by plastic wrap. My nail technician, Danny, was friendly, polite, and professional. I feel that a combination of these three is hard to find in the salon field, particularly with being genuinely friendly. Danny took his time; I did not feel that my service (deluxe pedicure) was rushed. He checked in with me several times regarding preference, temperature, etc., and adjusted accordingly. The deluxe pedi was one of the most relaxing I have had. In fact, I was enjoying my service so much that I decided to have a mani as well!! Although I enjoyed the services immensely, what will keep me coming back is the people. I truly felt appreciated here (not only by Danny, but by his team as well). I look forward to bringing all of my friends and family to Cavalry! Thank you for an EXCELLENT day, you nailed it! ;) read more

Great experience! I went in for a haircut asking to maintain length, layers, and make my hair as healthy as possible. The price was very reasonable and Yvonne did a fantastic job. Yvonne also identified my hair type. When I asked for advice on how to style my hair type Yvonne took extra time teach me the proper techniques for styling my hair and answered all of my questions. Overall I would recommend the salon and Yvonne! read more

I visited this salon to get a full set SNS manicure. The total was $54 with a 10% discount although their website lists this service for $55. Aliyah provides great customer service and made me feel welcomed. The salon has a nice decor as well. I like that they offer Venmo and cashapp as payment options, however I couldn't find their name/account on cashapp. As you can see in the photos, my cuticles are dry but this was because she chose to massage and lotion my hand and arm versus my fingers as to not mess up the manicure is how she explained it. I would definitely return to this salon. UPDATE: I returned for SNS, and I doubt I'll get it again. The new pictures show the manicure after 10 days with cracks and the sns is raising off of/lifting off of my nail bed (not referring to the natural growth) as if it will crack or break at any minute. For it to cost $45 I'd expect it last two weeks at least. Will likely try gel and save money. read more

Chemically burned my hair off. do not go here. Yvonne kept reassuring me even when I felt things going wrong - she tried to hide the damage but over processed my hair. She didn't know what she was doing. She even doubted my concerns. AWFUL HUMAN. ---- You are revising history. I did not refuse to settle the bill. I was told by Yvonne and her husband that I did not have to pay. I actually gave my credit card and asked to pay as I leave. Yvonne's husband, her co - owner, insisted I do not pay. Your recollection of events amounts to revising history. And lastly, I did not insist on bleaching my hair. In fact, I said I have never had bleach pulled the whole way through my ends. Are you sure this is what needs to be done? read more

I walked into Cavalry on a whim, just hoping to get a consult - the salon (owner, manager?) listened to what I was looking for and gave me feedback on how they can do it - after the consult, I felt like just going for the haircut and they were able to get me in with Gladys. I was nervous since I was a walk in and I didn't do any research but Gladys was amazing and calmly cut my hair - for reference, I have curly hair which is always hard to deal with but she did an amazing job, and I felt even happier after washing and seeing my hair the next day. This may be one of my best haircuts yet! read more

Cavalry Salon - Example Yvonne's Balayage - Hair Salons Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

Based on reviews claiming that Lauren is : "the balayage goddess", I went to this place. Please see attached pictures for facts and make your own judgment... As for service, Lauren was ok the first time I saw her and also later on via text when I contacted her to tell her that the color was not what I expected. However, when I went the second time to get the mess she had made on my head fixed, she was dry to say the least and somewhat unpleasant. She did not ask what would seem to be the obvious questions to get the job done better this time like: "what exactly you didn't like about the color?" "Do you have any concerns that we should address this time?" "Show me again exactly what you were looking for AGAIN", etc. Instead of acknowledging that something went wrong the first time, she proceeded to lecture me saying things like: " That is how color works PERIOD" (yes, she said "PERIOD"!) and with a scolding and condescending tone added: " IT NEEDS TO BE TONED DOWN" Well, I was just trying to explain to her what I did not like so we could find a solution together but she cut me off with those comments before I could say another word. Rude and unprofessional... Having being treated this way and not having the personality to cause a scene, I decided to let her do her thing. I assume she put toner on my hair but I have no idea of what color since she did not explain that part at all and at that point I was scare to even ask. She then proceeds to go away and let her assistant handle the rest. She told her assistant: "before she leaves make sure to wipe her forehead" And that meant that Lauren never took a second again to see if I was now content with how the color turned out. I walked out of this place with very dark hair... not what I was looking for (once again). It seems like normal practice for Lauren that If she messes it up or things do not turn out how the customer asked, she will give you an attitude the next time you go. All while pretending to ask you about your weekend after she has already made you feel very uncomfortable for voicing your opinion about your own hair. Lauren, the key for an unsatisfied customer to return to your business is making their next experiences much better than the prior one. Not the case here... *Go at your own (hair and zen) risk* read more

John and Yvonne, the new owners, deliver high level hair artistry. The remodel looks great and I enjoyed the sleek urban vibe. All of their equipment is new and cutting edge. The feel is clean and new with a warm personal experience. They carry the best product lines including everything Oribé and R&O. Penny did a fantastic job on my cut and color. I highly reccomend her. She also cut my 6 month old daughter's hair. Here you will find a deep knowledge of hair styling, cutting and color delivered by professionals with decades of experience. They now offer mani and pedi services and I opted to go classic this time with french gel nails and toes. I am very picky about who does my hair and literally after going to this salon for the first time I was so impressed that this is the only place I will go for my hair. Hava is amazing! She listens to exactly what you want and you will not be disappointed. My sister currently lives in DC and I'm currently in grad school in a different state. I waited 7 months till I was able to take a trip to DC just so Hava could do my hair. If your in DC area and unsure of a place to go for a cut and color this is your place. I only had 1.5inchs cut off and showed Hava this exact color and seriously could not be happier with how it looks. read more

i rushed, breathless and desperate, into cavalry salon after receiving a catastrophically atrocious, asymmetrical mess of a haircut from a different location. and with a fairy godmotheresque altruism, cavalry turned my ski-slope swoops into a totally cute bob. the stylist was kind, helpful, funny, clearly extremely competent at her craft and most of all -- willing to help out a girl in need. she even showed me a few different styles i could do w my new hair length. overall, an amazing experience. see pictures for what my hair looked like before vs after. read more

I got my hair cut by Yvonne, and I had a wonderful experience. I asked for a trim and for help to reshape my bangs, but she went above and beyond what I was expecting. Yvonne, the owner of Calvary Salon, is the best hairstylist I have ever been to. I've been coming to her for years after finding her on a whim, and she gave me the most flawless balayage. I once mistakenly let someone else do my hair, and I thought they ruined it forever. I went and cried to Yvonne and she turned it around in under 3 hours. It came out looking even better than before which I never thought possible. It's been about 8 months since my last cut and color and the work she did is still flawless. It's growing out beautifully and I couldn't ask for anything better (pictured below, from today's trim). She's also a sweetheart and the salon has the best vibes. I could hang out there all day. Now Yvonne is going to help me with extensions to have the hair of my dreams for my upcoming wedding. I can't wait to see the beautiful product that she'll create! read more

Cavalry is my one-stop-shop for all things hair and nails. Aliya has been doing my nails for years and I'm so particular, I'd never go anywhere else. Hava does the best job cutting my hair and she even gave me face-framing baby lights in the front yesterday, which look amazing! I asked her if I should go for a full or half balayage, but instead of just doing it, she actually recommended I start with these front highlights first because she didn't want to mess with my natural highlights. I really appreciate the honesty and I'm glad I started slow. I'll definitely be coming back for regular haircuts and she does a great job blowing out and curling my hair too! Loving my hair! 10/10 would recommend!!! read more

The salon was clean and the employees were all very nice and friendly. My biggest issue was that I asked for haircut with long layers in the back and face framing layers in the front. I'm not sure where the miscommunication happened but the stylist cut curtain bangs into my hair which is not the end of the world but I don't typically style my hair everyday so the just look like hair flaps. Update: We are considering taking legal action against the salon. Writing a review is protected under consumer rights. Don't let these bullies make you think otherwise. Cavalry Salon is harassing me and trying to force me to take the original review down by charging us an additional $400 on the credit card we gave them to process the refund they verbally agreed to give us. Yvonne's son told us over the phone that he would "beat us up" if we returned to the salon seeking our refund. At this point, it's not even about the messed up hair; I'm worried about my safety. Here's some additional info on what happened: Cavalry Salon charged an additional $400 while under the pretense of refunding to our credit card. When we called back, Yvonne's son told us that the pictures I posted were "altered" so they would not refund the fraudulant charge. Yvonne, if you are so sure of the alterations, why didn't you comment on my earlier review to say so? Is it because you know that they are actually accurate photos and you are afraid to make a public statement against it? You took photos of my hair as well - why not post them? I would also like to list the things that Yvonne did to me at the salon that I left out of my original review. As soon as we uttered the word "refund," Yvonne began treating me with physical aggression, shampooing my hair roughly and spraying water directly into my left ear and inside my neck. She left a large amount of product in my hair, which I had to wash out myself when I got home. She brushed my hair as if she were trying to pull it out. She loudly complained in earshot of the whole salon about how it was my fault I "didn't like" the awful job she did (which she continues to refuse to post her own photos of). Then, as I waited with dripping wet bleached hair, she literally threw a hairdryer at me and told me to dry the hair myself. When my boyfriend told her that he had never seen anyone act so rude to a client, she grabbed the hairdryer and hit me over the head several times while aggressively "drying" my hair. I wish I was making this up. I was on the verge of tears - not only because of my hair, but also because of how I was repeatedly insulted and physically harmed. I would be willing to consult a professional who can vouch that my photos are originals, and I have many more to provide. I may do just that when I take Cavalry to DC Small Claims Court. Yvonne, I hope you are satisfied. You may have silenced other people in the past, but I don't want to give a bully like you the satisfaction of winning, even if you can unjustly profit $400 off of my suffering. Please grow up and learn to own up to your mistakes. It shouldn't take a person who is younger than your 35-year old stay-at-home man-child to tell you that. read more

I have gone back and forth for a month trying to decide if I should write this. I love my present stylist in Nashville, but was living in DC for the summer. I went to Cavalry per good reviews (which seem artificially inflated...) and did not leave remotely satisfied. I scheduled a partial for root touch up (and communicated that root touch up and tone was my intent) and a color gloss/toner. When I arrived, I was apprehensive because of trying a new place and general hair anxiety. I explained how I was nervous and the stylist continuously told me I was being insulting to her skill and making her not want to help me. I explained my history of bad hair experiences to assuage her that it wasn't her at all, rather history of new people. I also think this is a completely normal anxiety... long story short, I was told that the hair I entered with looked horrible (I disagree) and she told me she wouldn't touch up my roots, only full head or nothing. I said I didn't want it but she explained that was my only option. I told her many times I wanted it as ashy and light as possible. I ended up with yellow/very gold hair that I had to get toned by someone else. I paid around $300 (though my hair was not brushed through, felt super straw-like and was passively dried by the woman also acting as receptionist), despite the price ranges on the site and getting something different than what I expressly came for. I write this because I want people to be cautious that you may not get what you anticipate with the ratings and my personal experience was disappointment. read more

This was my first time getting my hair done at Cavalry, I recently moved to DC and was SO nervous about finding the right hair stylist. I have visited DC a few times in the past and had my hair done by 2 other stylists, I was unimpressed to say the least and they were both extremely pricey. I scheduled the next available appointment with Yvonne after seeing photos on her Instagram of previous clients. My hair was quite a disaster from seeing so many different stylists over the last few months (I've been moving a LOT lately) and I wasn't quite sure how or if she'd be able to handle this mess- but she did!
