The haircut here was very disappointing and did not meet the standards I have come to expect from a…read moreJapanese salon. 2022 I am new to DC. Over the past five years, I have regularly visited Japanese hair salons in Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston while traveling frequently. In those experiences, even when a haircut did not fully match my preferred style or length, the technical quality was consistently strong, and any adjustments were handled professionally. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. One of the defining characteristics of a Japanese haircut is the smoothness, softness, precision, and careful organization of the layers. In my case, the cut lacked those qualities and appeared uneven and poorly structured (the photo from the back). I was also disappointed by the salon's management. Based on my experience, the overall operation and quality control did not reflect the standards typically associated with Japanese salons. Update (May 2026): Over the past 4 years, I have been with my Japanese hair stylist in New York. I returned to the salon to see Keiko because I was hoping to find a long-term stylist in Washington, DC. I had not had my haircut for 7 months prior to that because I delivered a baby in December 2025. Ozuki appeared to be one of the few salons in the area offering Japanese hairstylists. Immediately after the appointment, the haircut looked good due to the styling and blow-dry. However, within a few days, the shape became difficult to manage and appeared increasingly unstructured. The photo on my ID, taken approximately three weeks after the haircut, reflects how the cut settled over time. In contrast, the Japanese haircuts I have received elsewhere typically maintain their shape and balance for several months. Despite my concerns, I scheduled another appointment six weeks after the first haircut with Keiko because I genuinely hoped the issues could be corrected and that I could establish a relationship with a local stylist. At the same time, I let the management know that my haircut had bad form and hope that it can be resolved at the second appointment. Unfortunately, my interactions with management, Liz, were once again disappointing. Rather than addressing the concerns constructively, the response left me with little confidence that the salon could deliver the level of quality I was seeking. This is the first Japanese salon where I have repeatedly had unsatisfactory experiences. Based on the consistency of those experiences, I am not convinced that the salon operates at the standard typically associated with Japanese hairstyling.

She carelessly placed a wet towel on my shoulder and did not even know how to properly secure the cape. When I raised these concerns at the front desk, the staff offered no apology. Instead, they dismissively told me that rebooking with a star stylist would take weeks, exhibiting an extremely discriminatory attitude. While the receptionist eventually scheduled me with a different stylist for two weeks later, I subsequently received an email stating they would not provide me with any service at all. Please DO NOT visit this salon unless you want to experience blatant discrimination.

He literally just chopped my hair up. The bottom of my hair in the back was an upside down triangle! Every stylist knows it should be straight across and maybe just a bit rounded on the sides! Any salon would have easily provided a (normal) soft, feminine, sexy, natural cut that is subtle perhaps at different skill levels. This guy clearly had no concept of how to cut (straight) hair because his clueless messes get disguised easily in wavy or curly hair or in a blow dry with curling brush.

There was obviously a major misunderstanding. Why on earth anyone would want super blonde highlights on top of dark brown hair in 2018 is beyond me. This is not at all what I asked for. I asked for a natural looking balayage and showed Zhen literally four different pictures of examples I liked. I expressed that I really wanted the hair to look natural, blended and not ombre'd or striped. Both Zhen and the manager refused to try to make it right when I expressed my disappointment in my hair. Neither offering to help fix it, nor a refund. I had to pay $250 for something that was the opposite of what I wanted. After begging in person for them to help, I left another pleading phone message tonight for them to help me fix this mess, or refund my money as I can only imagine what a color correction will cost at another salon. I absolutely hate writing bad reviews about people and wouldn't have posted this if I didn't feel completely swindled, disrespected and brushed aside. I've been a client of Turgay for 15 years and I've been traveling with my husband and son to Georgetown from the Annapolis area to get our hair cuts and style in this salon, and we would follow him even further if we had to. He is an amazing stylist, goes out of his way to give you the perfect cut, color and style you desire. In this salon and particularly with Turgay, you won't get that terrible feeling in your stomach and the bad attitude you would get in other "upscale" and very much overrated places and stylist in the city. A few years ago my mom came for my wedding from Europe and Turgay cut and styled her hair. Since, all my mom is asking me is to bring Turgay with me when I go visit her. Yes, it is not cheap, but it is right on with the pricetag that all other Georgetown and city salons charge, after all, this is not Hair Cuttery. You will get the quality and care you desire and you won't be dissapointed. read more

This salon has it all. I've been a customer of Turgay, one of the owners for over 10 years (starting when he was at the Four Seasons). Not only is Turgay a fantastic stylist, a great colorist and a wonderful blowdryer, he's one of the nicest people in the business. Both Turgay's nephews Onder and Enver are co-owners and if Turgay is booked up (I'm a weekly blow-dry customer too), you're always in excellent hands with both of them. Also the salon opens at 7:00 am, so if you have an important morning meeting, or hopping a plane, or meeting a friend, you can always look your best. Whether you're a professional, a college student, a mom or all or none of the above, you'll always feel welcome here and leave feeling beautiful and in good spirits. And the salon is a great place for men's haircuts too. As for manicures and pedicures, ask for Cindy, wonderful service, artistry and overall top rate. read more

I've been going to Bulent for over fourteen years now - because he's that good. I'm always complimented on my hair and how lucky I am to have it and I have to be honest and say it's because of my hairdresser and here's his number. My cut is fun but not too young for my age and my color looks vibrant yet very natural. Last but not least, the blowdrying is phenomenal. (Obviously IBulent does it and sometimes Kasim when he's away) I've been to many, many hair dressers and not everyone can blowout my thick hair; however, they make it smooth and lustrous - which is far from what it is naturally, or anything that I could produce. Also, a trait I appreciate, he's very honest about what suits me or what styles would work for my hair type and that certainly key in the final result. They are as good as it gets. read more

This is an update from a review I posted years ago, that I wish I could remove because I wrote about a mistake they made but did not update it explaining how they fixed the mistake. This will be kind of long but I feel terrible remembering I never thanked the salon for what they did. I wanted highlights and a cut because it was May and I wanted my hair lighter. The initial stylist instead made my hair darker with a little ombré at the ends. She did a good job if that is what I asked for. I think she's artistic and kind of went with it. Anyway, I was really unhappy because my hair was the opposite of what I wanted. I contacted her. She said she'd fix it if I wanted to pay for another service I believe. Then I contacted the salon. They said they'd fix it. (I might be incorrect about their exact responses at any point and I'd believe it if I'm getting the exact words wrong). I went back to get my freshly darker hair dyed lighter. Unsurprisingly, and to put it lightly- IT DID NOT GO WELL. I had light patches and dark patches, or stripes to be more specific. Some of it was kind of orange. I felt like I looked like Tony the Tiger. I had to wear a hat or use hair color spray just to even it out. I expressed this to the salon. The owner said I could come in for a consultation in his Alexandria salon. I did. He explained what he would do then set up an appointment a few days later. I came back. He was so wonderful. He spent hours personally fixing my hair. It was lighter. The color looked great. Then, they gave me all of these wonderful Joico products to maintain it. I think mistakes happen. Miscommunications happen. But to go above and beyond to fix the problem and to be so kind really makes all the difference. I appreciate the owner and this salon so much.
