My first visit. I've been meaning to try this place for some time. I arrived during busy hours on a holiday weekend to try their brisket. The line took over 1.5 hours before I was able to place my order. At the register, I noticed I had been double charged and pointed it out to the cashier. Mistakes happen, especially during busy hours. However, she initially denied it and removed meat from my plate to reweigh it. She later acknowledged the mistake and admitted the error, but not before making an unnecessary scene. The brisket was good, but the overall experience could have been better. 2 stars.
up there in terms of bbq. the pastrami beef rib was big, very tender, great flavor. everything else was good but it was the standout
I was in Texas for a work event and my colleagues invited me to have some Texas BBQ at Cattleleack Barbeque. When we arrived around 1pm there was a line out the door. After getting inside I could tell why. The BBQ smell hits you as you open the door and it smelled sooooo good. They had a giant menu written onto the wall. Some of the meats were sold out. We debated for a bit and then decided to do a group order. Our Group of 7 people ordered the Cattleleack Platter and sides of burnt end beans, potato salad, cole slaw, and Mac and cheese. Oh and don't forget to ask for cornbread too. Inside tey had large tables and benches to sit at and we secured our spot. The food was delicous. The Beef Rib was huge and melted in my mouth. The brisket was amazing and seasoned well. Everything tasted great. Everyone ate til they were full and we still had leftovers. I ate them later at night and they were still good. This place is pricey, definitely worth a visit.
This spot in North Dallas has been on my radar for a while. Many good reviews are posted. As soon as I touched down in Dallas on a Thursday, I started making my way there. I got there around lunch time and found street parking. Upon entering, a small portion of the left of the restaurant is for ordering and the right side is for dining. There was plenty of seating area with large tables. The lunch time crowd build up was definitely in effect but the line wasn't long. While waiting in line, my focus was on deciding what to order. I always get brisket as a benchmark to compare with all other bbq places. When my turn came I ordered a brisket sandwich, a turkey sandwich, potato salad, coleslaw, and 2 beef ribs. The worker taking my order replied that I probably want one beef rib. It did not occur to me that these were the huge dino ribs at around $40 a pound. I took his advice and the one rib was more than enough. Everything was packed up to go and my total was $104. The one beef rib was a bulk of the price. Ok, so three of us tried some of the bbq and the sides. No great feedback was given from them. I got to try everything. The brisket was tender but not flavorful. The coleslaw flavor was undesirable as well as the potato salad. The smoked turkey had a good smoke flavor to it. The beef rib had more marbled fat than meat throughout most of it, however it did have a nice black pepper seasoning to it. The bbq sauce was not great either. Hopefully they were having an off day, but I doubt it and the cost of everything was too much for it not to be great.
The smoked meats are some of the best around. We had brisket, sausage and even tried the ribeye. Staff here is top notch. They serve local Wagyu and smoke everything onsite. The meats are certainly juicy and smoked to perfection. I understand a bit more about people lining up for this food. That's just about where goes from great to ok. The BBQ sauce on the table was meh. The mustard sauce though gets a pass for sure and hit all the right notes. I guess even BBQ is very subjective like sushi. Some people like it and others don't. In this case it was the sauce that brought the experience down. I won't be back but that just leaves room for the next person.
Food was great and line on friday 945am was not to bad. Nice family run bbq. First bbq place i have been awarded the michele star. Everyone was nice. Food had same price as the other top bbq tx places. Worth the short wait. Sides were great
I've eaten here a handful of times and each time was just as good as the last. After trying numerous top rated bbq joints in TX, Cattleack in my opinion is the best and most consistent. The brisket and meaty ribs are always going to be tender. The hatch chile mac and cheese is a must and so is their cornbread. The lines are definitely worth it. They start selling out of meats and sides within hours of opening, but always enough brisket!
Definitely one of the best BBQ in DFW! Limited hours but we had gone around 12 on Friday and no line. If you sign up for their emails they'll notify when there's no line, too. Softest Dino rib I've had in DFW yet, so juicy! Sides were great too which makes the difference always. Will definitely be back, 100% worth making it in the limited hours if you get the chance
We heard about Cattleack. They have limited hours to mostly weekdays, but with our luck they open the 1st Saturday of the month and we flew into Dallas that day! Once we got off the plane, we rushed to our rental car and made our way north to Cattleack. We got there around 1pm. The line wasn't too bad, it was still outside and into the parking lot. Nothing was sold out yet, until we inched closer to the front. They sold out of burnt ends, bologne, beef ribs, and then all the sides except slaw. Since it was close to closing time they were giving a ribeye special, buy one get one free. It was a good deal but a lot of food, so we didn't get it. We ended up getting pork ribs, brisket, and turkey, with slaw and their complimentary bread and pickles. Their pork ribs were delicious, so was the turkey. The brisket was chopped up in pieces, which I wasn't fond of the chopping. My favorite was the pork ribs and turkey. They are heavy on the pepper, so it gave it a little kick if you ate a lot. Probably not good for younger kids. I love it though. They also give you their soft bread for free and I believe their pickles are homemade. Pickles, jalapeños and pickled onions were very good and complemented the meats. I do wish they open more hours though... so that people can try everything! No alcohol sold here, but you can bring your own. Plenty of seating inside and some outside. Parking is limited in the lot and lots of street parking. They close early too, at 2. So many limitations for good bbq. Wish they capitalize their worth and open up more.
Right off the airplane and drove to Cattleack. Arrived around 1pm. Beef ribs ran out and so did all the sides except last of coleslaw. We got turkey, pork ribs, brisket and slaw. Super peppery but I like it, may be too peppery for people. Bread and pickles included. Free and the best bread Homemade pickles, jalapeños and onions Plenty of seating
I wish I had a better experience at Cattleack but unfortunately I left feeling a bit disappointed, especially after having to wait for a very long time. Since they have very limited hours on the weekdays, I finally managed to visit with my fiance on a Thursday. We arrived at around 11:30am and ended up waiting about 40 minutes before we even made it inside. Once inside, there is more waiting in line until you finally get to the counter to order your food (this took us probably another 20 minutes or so). By the time we got to order, they were already out of a few items including the cornbread which was a side that I was very much looking forward to. So we ended up getting the brisket, original sausage, and burnt ends along with the hatch chili mac & cheese, potato salad, and Mexican street corn. Among the meats, the sausage and burnt ends were both great and I especially enjoyed the burnt ends and how tender each piece was. Unfortunately the brisket fell flat for me; it wasn't very tender at all and underwhelmed me compared to how amazing the brisket is at Hutchins. For the sides, I loved the hatch chili mac & cheese and thought the potato salad and street corn were pretty standard. Overall I don't know that I would come back, and I would much rather visit Hutchins which has way better opening hours!
Service was good & friendly. This is the first time I got a bad batch but it's usually really good! Got there by 10:30 so only had a small wait. I don't know what this is but it's not burnt ends! Also, every other time I've been there they tell me that I can't get a burn and sandwich and today they said they would do it, which is also kind of funny. Hopefully it was just one bad day for them..

The hours here are extremely limited Thursday and Fridays and first Saturday of the month. We have gone on week days and typically waited 30-45 minutes. But if you can make it here, the food is definitely worth it. Probably my favorite BBQ spot in Dallas! We ordered the beef rib, pork ribs and burnt ends. Everything was juicy and flavorful and not overwhelmingly smoky. Seriously do not skip out on the burnt ends! They typically have weekly specials but we aren't huge pastrami fans, so we didn't opt to try the pastrami ribs. I usually find the sides at BBQ spots lacking, but I thought the hatch mac and cheese here to be very delicious! read more

If you have a free Thursday I highly recommend you swing by this establishment for the best bbq in the Dallas area! We came at 11am and maybe waited on line about a half an hour. They have tents set up in the alley with folding chairs, so nice! We came for the pastrami brisket but quickly found out we came the wrong week! No problem, everything on the menu is so good. I got a Hog and Slaw (great combo!) and side of collard greens. The hubs got a bologna sandwich with burnt end beans, also very tasty. We'll be back next week to try the Pastrami Brisket! read more

On a business trip to Dallas, a group of us stopped by Cattleack Barbeque on a Thursday for lunch. Despite it being a weekday, there was a 15-minute wait or so. Which wasn't the best as most of the wait was outside and it was really hot. Once we got in, we were excited to see what all of the hype is about Cattleack. We ordered a feast! We're talking brisket (obviously), pork ribs, giant beef ribs, pulled pork, sausage, mac and cheese, coleslaw, beans, dirty rice, cornbread, bread, desert, and more. It was a feast fit for a king. The BBQ was quality. Out of everything, the brisket and beef rib were my favorites. Always a good sign when the brisket is up there at a Texas BBQ spot. ....... CRITIC'S REVIEW ...... In summary - never returning. Although pork ribs and fatty brisket are good items, sides are disgusting and sausages are almost inedible! But if you do go, get there early - they run out of meats!!! At 10:30am on a Thursday... the line was 30+ people deep wrapped around the building (with tents, water cooler and a few folding chairs). Expect 30-40 min wait. Here is what I ate. Pork ribs: Very good! Excellent rub foundation, very moist and tender. Mild heat finish (only 2 out of 10). Meaty and not fatty. Good overall size too. Seasoned on both sides - rarely ever done! This is easily a 9 out of 10 overall. Sausage: (All are bad and greasy... I could barely eat one bite of each.) ORIGINAL #17 (mild): Very greasy and too salty - almost inedible. Odd darker brown color inside and strange flavor profile. Not even sure my sauce at home can rescue this one. (Score '0' out of 10.) HATCH CHILI & CHEESE (medium): A reasonable flavor (more balanced), but weird for me. NOT Texas style at all. Again, super greasy to the point it's not enjoyable. (Score 1 out of 10.) SPICY TEXAN (hot & spicy): Significantly leaner but still on the greasy side. Much better flavor profile than the other two and more inline with what Tx BBQ sausage should taste like (barely). No heat! It's ok to eat and not worry about it. (Hot/Spicy here just means seasoned and flavored... and mildly done.) Scored 4 out of 10... would be a 5.5 but too greasy.) Brisket: You get a nice thick full slice of brisket with both the lean and fatty sides. (No choice - you get both.) The moist side is excellent with perfect flavors and very moist without being greasy. I loved it (9 out of 10)!! However the lean side is on the dry side, has barely any flavor or smoke profile, and definitely needs sauce to eat it - a 3 out of 10. (I'm taking it home and using another sauce.) Regular Sauce: Extremely strong and profound 'in your face' initial experience. Odd combination of seasoning, mild sweetness and a bit of sour too. Totally overpowering all flavors of the meats. Is a 2 out if 10 for me. (Yes, it has sort of a Texas traditional foundation, but just too strange for me.) The 2nd sauce is mustard/vinegar based - Carolina style. Not my thing. I'm from TEXAS!!! Potato Salad: DISGUSTING!! I immediately spit it out and I've NEVER done that before!! Sorry - totally gross. God only knows what's in it. Had to eat bread and water fast to clean my pallet. Everything is very finely chopped, on the sour side, no mustard flavor, no detectable potatoes and topped with pepperika. Try it at your own risk. Score "-100" out of 10. (As an after thought... the bin I was served from was labeled "potato salad" on the cover lid, and I ask for potato salad, but it might have been coleslaw - which I hate!! If so, stupid mistake and it cost them valuable points with me. You only get one chance with me - I judge by what other customers are experiencing at the same time.) Burnt Ends Beans: Yuck! Really! How do you screw up Tx BBQ beans... by not making them in a Texas tradition! The flavors are all over the board, and none are appealing. No detectable burnt ends meat - and I forked through it meticulously to find any. I picked out all the meat in a PINT serving and the total amount of burnt ends meat was smaller than my thumbnail! Cheapskates!!! Atmosphere: Rustic Texas vibe. Famous people with owner pics on the wall (but no one I recognized) and western decor. Fun and what you expect in a BBQ place. Service Issue: Old man with black rim glasses at butcher block is rude - total jerk! I asked cashier and his name is Todd... turns out to be the owner! No people skills and over the top arrogant. Get any younger guy to take your order - they are much nicer. (Not going into the story details, but it was a one-sentence statement he made to me as I walked up, and everything I just said was clearly and intentionally communicated to me... and I had not spoken to him yet!!!) Overall: I left very hungry and when out for a hamburger. Had stomach gas for 12 hours. Too many other BBQ places in Dallas with significantly better food, no 30 min lines in the heat or rude people greeting you. DON'T GO!!! read more

Cattleack Barbecue is one of the best BBW joints in DFW. It's usually open only Thursdays and Fridays, but on the first Saturday of each month, Cattleack Barbecue hosts Pits & Punch. It's an awesome chance to see the smokers up close and ask any question you want. Read on to learn more. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Pits and Punch happens on the first Saturday of each month. Try coming during the months of March, April, and May when the weather is nice. You'll hear country music piping outside, and a line will form along the side of the building. Cattleack provides shading and some chairs but bring your own chair just in case. Also, take a moment to soak in the beautiful painted murals on the side. 1 Star. Service - If you're one of the lucky ones who get in line early, you'll be invited to go to the back for a session with one of the Cattleack pitmasters. Everyone gets a little pineapple punch that you can sip while listening to the pitmaster conduct an open Q&A session. Things I learned: Cattleack uses only wagyu grade beef, the brisket rub is salt and pepper with mustard as the binder. They also do whole hogs on the first Saturday. You won't lose your place in line. 1 Star. Food - The brisket and ribs are some of the best in DFW. Read the other reviews for details. For sides, I'm a big fan of their street corn. This corn is mixed with lime and cilantro and is possibly the best side on the menu. It goes with everything. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. This is first time I've had the chance to join the Cattleack team during Pits & Punch, and it was an awesome experience. I am absolutely obsessed and in LOVE with their coleslaw!! Not a huge fan of meat but the tenderness and flavor was to die for! I especially enjoyed the beef ribs! Oh and the cornbread was different than what I am used to. It was moist and had real chunks of corn! Loved it because I have only had the ones that are dry and crumbly. read more

Personally I think they fell off in the last year. I used to love their brisket and ribs. Today the meat was not hot. Probably only 125° Ribs were nice and meaty but not tender at all. QR code menu was also not working properly. I just wish it was consistently good here, not just sometimes. read more

Well, came to TX to move the daughter bk to Cali and needed one more bbq fix. The proprieters of this place knew what they were doing when they named this place Cattlelack...it lacked a lot. I'm going straight to the point, way too much pepper on their bark, and the brisket we got was dry as cardboard...you can see in the photo where our cut came from right off a new slab which should've been moist. Only redeeming item is their cornbread which is solid...I should've gone to Hutchins for my last hooray. read more

This place has plenty of meat and side options. Majority of what we had which was ribs, chicken, elote and some other stuff. Which was good. Can't go wrong with what you pick. However, that coleslaw!!!!! The three of us were a hard pass on that one. The service from the guys behind the counter were spot on and friendly. They also answered our questions as first timers. The seating was a normal bbq seating. Wood style tables and benches. Sit up straight is the motto. Lol. Will go back if I am in the area and they are open. read more

I'm updating my review. Pulled up around 9:50am on a Friday and was able to walk in with minimal line when they opened. Today we were able to get the pastrami beef rib and burnt ends. That made all the difference in the world. Succulent smokey burnt ends and fall off the bone pastrami beef rib. The sides were stellar: burnt ends beans, burnt ends dirty rice, hatch chili mac n cheese, coleslaw, potato salad and apple broccoli salad. Don't forget the sweet savory cornbread. The last time I came here was pre-covid, and the barbecue is still great! The brisket is melt-in-your-mouth soft and has a great crust. I just hate when items sell out and I can't order it, though! For example, we came on a Friday afternoon around 1pm (they close at 2), and they had run out of sausage by that point. So you can't order any of the sandwiches or plates that had sausage as one of the meats (a lot of them include sausage by the way...) because they won't make substitutions. Pre-covid, they also gave out a whole loaf of bread with your order, but now you only get two slices. Logistics: Parking can be difficult since the lot is small. This might be why so many people order for pick-up then leave. They set up some tents and chairs outside, so people who are waiting in line can have seating and shade, which is nice. read more
I would give this place a 3.5 star review- rounding up to 4. We liked the food enough, but man- THEY ARE SO OVERPRICED. It wasnt love for us. We know they have limited hours and were able to stop in the first Saturday of the month (which is the only Saturday they are open). We stood online outside for about 45-60 minutes, it appeared to be moving fast but it was deceptive. Once inside we appreciated the AC and the smells. We did not get any beef ribs because they are about $33 per lb... and they warn you that its about 2lbs EACH rib. I even asked to double check and they said said about 1.5-2lbs each. I don't care if they are made of gold, not worth it to us. We got a brisket sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, sausage link, mac and cheese, beans, potato salad and the oreo pie with a soda and water. It came to about $75. I have NEVER spent so much on BBQ. The mac and cheese was the star IMO. It was like a beer base with squiggle pasta, really good. My husband enjoyed it too. The brisket sandwich was significantly better than the pulled pork. The sausage link was decent. Potato salad was not memorable. My husband swears the best part was the oreo pie. Can't say I would stand on line for this again- with these prices I see how they can afford to only be open for limited hours 3-4 days a week. read more
The food is really really good. But be warned... the food can also be a miss. Beef rib 5/5. Really hard to miss up something so fatty. Well done. Pork ribs 5/5 I've had better ribs in Saint Louis but that's no fault to Cattleack. brisket 2/5. It was very very dry. It was a pretty hard piece. No amount of fat could save us from that. We didn't eat it and it eventually ended up being thrown away. It was a very pricey meal for two. I would make for a non end piece brisket. Corn bread very good. Plenty of parking on premise. We got there at 930 and finish eating by 1045. Long lines! read more

This place is elite. I've tried all the spots and I think this has a slight edge over terry blacks and Hutchins. The wagyu beef really sets it apart. Very moist and juicy beef. The brisket and beef rib were spectacular, as well as jalapeño sausage. read more

Food is good. They do have limited hours of service. We arrived at 12:45p, and they already ran out of burned ends. But the line wasn't as long as others had mentioned. Maybe because we got there close to closing time. Wagyu beef brisket was great Brisket sandwich was good, though I wish they used buns instead of thin sliced bread. AMAZING BBQ!!! Everything was fresh and tasty. Bring your appetite. Pulled pork sandwich was so jammed packed with meat and slaw it was a mess to eat. Hubs had the trinity platter and it was enough for him. Cornbread and sides were all excellent. For dessert get the crack cake you won't be disappointed. Service was friendly and helpful. Noise level was medium between talking and music but tolerable. read more
I was in the area and remembered that this place was open. They're hours of operation are not traditional, so make sure they're open before going. To my surprise, there was no line outside. So, I guess the best time to go is near closing. The line is worth it, however, if you have the time. I got a brisket sandwich and ribs to go. Both were great. I was disappointed that there was no more crack cake. I was looking forward to some as it has been a while. This is definitely one of my top 2 BBQ restaurants. read more
The BBQ was cooked to perfection- this review missed the 5th star for the following reason: the silverback wasn't removed off of the beef rib additionally the beef rib was entirely too fatty for the price. Total spent on meats, two sides, dessert and condiments was $143.00 - talk about a hefty lunch expense. The crack cake was just okay, it appears to be some sort of custard on crusted on a box of yellow cake mix. The beans and mac were okay. read more

The brisket....the brisket... the brisket.. did I mention the brisket. Lol! I enjoyed my beef rib and the beans also. The chili was not my favorite, it had cinnamon or something that messed the taste up. But, someone in our party had the potato salad and the broccoli salad. The both were good. The star of the experience is hands down the brisket and ribs. The bbq sauce was good also, but this bbq was so great, sauces are not necessary. Definitely, we will be back. Also, please get here early. There is a line at all times to enjoy the Cattleack experience. Because, this was an experience! read more
Yee-Haa! I had a true Yee-Haa moment today with one of my best friends here at lunch! Cattleack has incredibly delicious BBQ and sides!! We got there right at 11:00 am on a Wednesday & the line to order was still contained inside. They had Brisket, sausage, ribs, and also had some pastrami ribs (One rib was 1.5 pounds on the pastrami!) The sausage had 3 choices, and the sides had potato salad, hatch chili macaroni & cheese, and slaw. All food is served directly on a wax paper sheet on a tray with sides in small clear various size cups. They have family style picnic table seating inside and lots of drink options. The sausage I chose was a jalapeño cheese blend. The brisket had a nice smoke ring and was very moist and succulently tender. The pork ribs had a wonderful slightly sweet crust with a nice spice kick on it. We also got the jalapeño cornbread & crack cake. Overall, I see why it's one of the top 50 BBQ spots this year in Texas. Service was spectacular with lots of smiles! You must try it, you'll definitely love it! What's not to love??!! read more

Some of the best barbecue you can get in the DFW. This place was busy at 11am on a Wednesday, if that tells you anything. Brisket is moist, and texture is amazing. Seasoned very well, and very solid salt levels. Sausage was the hot one, and it was great, the casing wasn't too chewy, but still had a bit of a pop when you bite into it. Flavor is through the roof, and not too spicy where it takes over the whole profile. Pork rib was very solid. Tender, and very easy to eat off the bone. The sides were some of the best sides I've had at any barbecue spot. Would honestly come back just for those. read more

Had to try Cattleack BBQ simply on reputation and recommendation alone, and it didn't disappoint. While it is quite pricy, you do get a lot of good food for the price. I got two orders of the Texas Trinity, and while it doesn't seem like much, you can get pretty full on the barbecue alone. For me, the brisket was by far the best - still juicy even after putting it the oven to rewarm it. The sausage and ribs were okay; probably much better fresh, but I think I've had better. For sides, I also got the cornbread, Mac and cheese, and butter cake (crack cake). I think the former two (cornbread and Mac and cheese) were so-so, nothing you couldn't find elsewhere, but that butter cake was so melt-in-your-mouth amazing that I rationed it over a few days just so I could enjoy it longer. I don't know what they put in that (and going by its name, I don't want to know). I'd highly recommend the butter cake. Overall, I've heard it gets real crowded, but I've gone right before closing and there were no lines at all, so YMMV (I imagine it does get hectic here though). If you haven't been here before, note the very restrictive hours - 10:30am to 2:00pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and the 1st Saturday of the month. Be warned or you'll drive all the way out here and it'll be closed. Also, pro-tip: I had to rewarm the food since I ordered to-go. The cashier told me specifically to NOT MICROWAVE the barbecue, and instead lightly cook in an oven, likely because microwave removes the precious moisture and juiciness of the meat. I foil wrapped the meat and heated in a preheated oven for about 15 minutes on 210 degrees. Came out fine for us. read more

Got there around 1:20. Everything pretty much sold out. What we were able to settle for was ice cold. Meat especially. Freezing. Spent about $150 in total. I'll stick to Hutchins. They never disappoint. It's just crazy how they only open for 3 days a week for a few hours and still sell completely out daily. Not good for business at all. This was really underwhelming. read more

Cattleack is by far my favorite BBQ spot in Dallas. I arrived at 10am on Thursday and got my food 20 minutes later (they opened early). I got the Texas Trinity Plate, which came with brisket, sausage, and a pork rib ($22). The fatty brisket was outstanding as it was very moist, smoky, and tender. I could tell the brisket was very high quality. The hatch chile and cheese sausage was decent. It was very juicy and oozed with cheese, but I thought the casing was a bit too tough and chewy. The pork rib was outstanding. It had a hint of sweetness and had a nice peppery bark. Burnt Ends: The burnt ends were bite sized pieces of meat that melts in your mouth. I definitely recommend trying these as they were nice, fatty, and delicious. Beef Rib: Although the brisket was amazing, the beef rib was by far my favorite. It's probably the best beef rib I've ever had, and I've tried many of the Texas Monthly Top 50 spots. The beef rib was incredibly tender and moist. It was very well seasoned with a perfect, smoky crust. Unlike many beef ribs that have too much fat, this beef rib also had a very solid meat to fat ratio. I could tell the beef rib was made from very high quality meat. I usually don't care for sides, but their mac and cheese and street corn were very good. Also, be sure to try their crack cake! Yes to both. Overall, a significant longer line. The full menu is served.

They serve it every day they are open... Thurs/Friday for lunch and that first Saturday of the month. But it runs out fast!

Yes they do but you have to order two weeks in advance! Trust me too it is soooo worth it! :)
What day is generally less busy--Thursday or Friday? Are strollers allowed in line?
I took my stroller in and it was fine. We were there on a Thursday. Thankfully the line is inside so it's cool.
Is there a wait before the restaurant opens?
Yes. They open at 10:30am and people line up way before that. It could take 45 minutes to get thru the line once it opens depending on what time you arrive. Sometimes more than that. But it's so worth it.
