Potato salad was really bad
Quin B.

This spot in North Dallas has been on my radar for a while. Many good reviews are posted. As soon as I touched down in Dallas on a Thursday, I started making my way there. I got there around lunch time and found street parking. Upon entering, a small portion of the left of the restaurant is for ordering and the right side is for dining. There was plenty of seating area with large tables. The lunch time crowd build up was definitely in effect but the line wasn't long. While waiting in line, my focus was on deciding what to order. I always get brisket as a benchmark to compare with all other bbq places. When my turn came I ordered a brisket sandwich, a turkey sandwich, potato salad, coleslaw, and 2 beef ribs. The worker taking my order replied that I probably want one beef rib. It did not occur to me that these were the huge dino ribs at around $40 a pound. I took his advice and the one rib was more than enough. Everything was packed up to go and my total was $104. The one beef rib was a bulk of the price. Ok, so three of us tried some of the bbq and the sides. No great feedback was given from them. I got to try everything. The brisket was tender but not flavorful. The coleslaw flavor was undesirable as well as the potato salad. The smoked turkey had a good smoke flavor to it. The beef rib had more marbled fat than meat throughout most of it, however it did have a nice black pepper seasoning to it. The bbq sauce was not great either. Hopefully they were having an off day, but I doubt it and the cost of everything was too much for it not to be great.

Behind the counter/ sides and desserts. Michelin award for 2024, 2025.

Today I tried the best brisket I have ever had in my life! Everyone was super friendly. I am having dinner later with family later so didn't get much only a slice of brisket and one rib. Absolutely the best brisket I have ever had, moist, tender, savory, perfect seasoning. And the ribs are also amazing with the slight hint of heat in the rub, ever so slight but appropriated. The homemade pickles are very tasty. Look forward to going back next Friday. My new brisket/rib Gold standard. I see why they have back-to-back Michelin awards for 2024 and 2025 congratulations to this place for out of this world barbecue. Look forward to trying their sides next visit.

Definitely one of the best BBQ in DFW! Limited hours but we had gone around 12 on Friday and no line. If you sign up for their emails they'll notify when there's no line, too. Softest Dino rib I've had in DFW yet, so juicy! Sides were great too which makes the difference always. Will definitely be back, 100% worth making it in the limited hours if you get the chance

We heard about Cattleack. They have limited hours to mostly weekdays, but with our luck they open the 1st Saturday of the month and we flew into Dallas that day! Once we got off the plane, we rushed to our rental car and made our way north to Cattleack. We got there around 1pm. The line wasn't too bad, it was still outside and into the parking lot. Nothing was sold out yet, until we inched closer to the front. They sold out of burnt ends, bologne, beef ribs, and then all the sides except slaw. Since it was close to closing time they were giving a ribeye special, buy one get one free. It was a good deal but a lot of food, so we didn't get it. We ended up getting pork ribs, brisket, and turkey, with slaw and their complimentary bread and pickles. Their pork ribs were delicious, so was the turkey. The brisket was chopped up in pieces, which I wasn't fond of the chopping. My favorite was the pork ribs and turkey. They are heavy on the pepper, so it gave it a little kick if you ate a lot. Probably not good for younger kids. I love it though. They also give you their soft bread for free and I believe their pickles are homemade. Pickles, jalapeños and pickled onions were very good and complemented the meats. I do wish they open more hours though... so that people can try everything! No alcohol sold here, but you can bring your own. Plenty of seating inside and some outside. Parking is limited in the lot and lots of street parking. They close early too, at 2. So many limitations for good bbq. Wish they capitalize their worth and open up more.

This was my last must try BBQ spot around DFW area and I wished I had it sooner! Everything I got was good, my favorite were the pork ribs and the wagyu briskets. Cornbread was also very yummy. The sides were solid. Service was great, inside was clean and plenty of seatings. They also have outside seating so that was nice too.

Bbq plate! Look at those pork ribs!

Right off the airplane and drove to Cattleack. Arrived around 1pm. Beef ribs ran out and so did all the sides except last of coleslaw. We got turkey, pork ribs, brisket and slaw. Super peppery but I like it, may be too peppery for people. Bread and pickles included. Free and the best bread Homemade pickles, jalapeños and onions Plenty of seating

Best meat in the world.

Finally made it to Cattleack Barbeque and it absolutely lived up to the hype a everyone feels like family atmosphere. I ordered the big platter that comes with a little bit of everything and it was stacked. Every single item on that tray was excellent. The brisket was hands down the best I have ever had. Perfect bark, incredibly juicy, and so tender it practically melted. It did not need any sauce at all. The ribs were spot on with great flavor and the right amount of bite. The sausage had a nice snap and was packed with flavor. Even the sides were great and definitely not an afterthought. And the Crack Cake was unreal. Moist, buttery, and completely addictive. We were seriously considering ordering another slice. You can tell they really care about what they are doing. No gimmicks, just amazing barbecue. If you are in Dallas and have not been here yet, you are missing out. Easy five stars. I will definitely be back.

Inside with fun decor!

I wish I had a better experience at Cattleack but unfortunately I left feeling a bit disappointed, especially after having to wait for a very long time. Since they have very limited hours on the weekdays, I finally managed to visit with my fiance on a Thursday. We arrived at around 11:30am and ended up waiting about 40 minutes before we even made it inside. Once inside, there is more waiting in line until you finally get to the counter to order your food (this took us probably another 20 minutes or so). By the time we got to order, they were already out of a few items including the cornbread which was a side that I was very much looking forward to. So we ended up getting the brisket, original sausage, and burnt ends along with the hatch chili mac & cheese, potato salad, and Mexican street corn. Among the meats, the sausage and burnt ends were both great and I especially enjoyed the burnt ends and how tender each piece was. Unfortunately the brisket fell flat for me; it wasn't very tender at all and underwhelmed me compared to how amazing the brisket is at Hutchins. For the sides, I loved the hatch chili mac & cheese and thought the potato salad and street corn were pretty standard. Overall I don't know that I would come back, and I would much rather visit Hutchins which has way better opening hours!

Back for a second time and it was even better than the first! Absolutely blown away by the pastrami brisket and Wagyu beef cheeks. The ribs are tremendous. Turkey is top notch. The Wagyu bologna is highly underrated, too. Don't sleep on that one.

Stuart C.

Only open 3 days a week,, they open at 10 Am and the line can be long. That being said, this place is so delicious. Everything I had was top notch Some of the best BBQ in Texas.

Andrew W.

Im not a native Texan but I've lived here for a decade now so I like to think that I've been to my fair share of BBQ places. Cattleack might be my new favorite! Everything we had was so good and tasty! Would highly recommend and I understand why it is so popular!

Briskets !! Pastrami bomb. Waygu bomb
Vu N.

Cattleack!!! Wow !!! So so good Tender Smokey. Flavorful. Amazing bbq Beef ribs. So good. So soft. Even the meat on the bone so easy to eat Burnt ends. Ridiculous good so soft so amazing Turkey was very soft one of the best I really liked both briskets. Waygu and pastrami. Both on point Corn bread. Is a must here Honestly nothing was bad here. And free beer

Receipt

Ordered 1 - Trinity Platter: comes with 2 skronny pork ribs, 1 slice brisket and 1 sausage roll (1lb meat total) - $29.99 1 side burnt ends beans $4.95 1 side potato salad $4.95 1 side of cornbread $3.79 Total: $71.17 If I had to rate my overall experience from this restaurant I would honestly give it 1 star. I'm sorry I did not like anything that I ordered. Everything tasted weird, unseasoned, and bland. The dry rubs were spicy. The meat was unseasoned and lacked flavor. The sides lacked salt and flavor as well. I would definitely not visit this restaurant again.

When is pastrami brisket on the menu?

The weekly specials are posted on their website. Pastrami brisket is a weekly special and you can see if it is available by checking the website that week.

If you are going to get 2 sides which two?

Burnt end beans are a must.

What time do you usually sell out of stuff on a Saturday? I can't get there until 12:30 to 1pm

Oh my. Unfortunately I wouldn't bother. Anything you want might be gone by noon

Are you only open the first Saturday of the month or every Saturday?

1st Saturday

Can I pre-order for Saturday 9/3 for pickup?

Not on Saturday but you could on Friday

Do they take Apple pay?

I know they do not take cash only cards. They do have and iPad pay. Call them To be 100%

Are you able to preorder carry out on either Thursday or Friday?

Yes. Please see web site for all the details

How are you going to be closed on a Saturday though?

Don’t understand your question

Is the line for Saturday whole hog substantially longer than the normal Thu/Fri line of you get there when they open? Are they serving full menu on Saturday?

Yes to both. Overall, a significant longer line. The full menu is served.

Do they serve Beef Ribs and Burnt ends on the two days they are open? Or just the on Saturday they are open? And what time are they open Saturday's; Same times and Thursday's and Friday's?

They serve it every day they are open... Thurs/Friday for lunch and that first Saturday of the month. But it runs out fast!

Can you order to-go?

Yes

Is it wheelchair accessible?

Yes it is! Great, great bbq joint!

Do they do catering? 50-60 people

Yes they do but you have to order two weeks in advance! Trust me too it is soooo worth it! :)

What day is generally less busy--Thursday or Friday? Are strollers allowed in line?

I took my stroller in and it was fine. We were there on a Thursday. Thankfully the line is inside so it's cool.

Is there a wait before the restaurant opens?

Yes. They open at 10:30am and people line up way before that. It could take 45 minutes to get thru the line once it opens depending on what time you arrive. Sometimes more than that. But it's so worth it.

I'm allowed to bring beer into the restaurant?

Yes it is always

Do you sell the rub that you use for your ribs,if not would you share the ingredients?

soon you will be able to purchase the rub

Ordered Turkey, Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage and Mac and Cheese on the 2 meat combo plate. First off, that was $27 which I thought was rather high but with the hype I thought it might be worth it. The turkey was tender and juicy and rather flavorful, except for the end piece of turkey breast (I assume) with the skin side which was extremely tough. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was okay, but it didn't really retain either the jalapeño, cheddar, or the smoky taste which I thought was disappointing. The Mac and Cheese had bacon bits on it which were nice and crispy but the Mac and Cheese wasn't very rich or complex flavor wise, which I found slightly underwhelming. The sauce was super runny and while it had flavor, I never think having to put sauce on stuff to give it flavor is the answer. All that being said, for $27 I wasn't going to leave anything on the plate. The service I thought was rather hands off and I'm surprised nobody came and checked on us although that may be just how things are. The ambiance was cool with old license plates and pictures along with some cool western themed things up on the walls to make it seem warm and homey. All in all, I was left with the feeling that there should've been more and I was kinda disappointed after all the hype I've seen and all the gravitas that the name Pecan Lodge carries with it. I'd say probably a 6.5-7/10 so that lands me at 3 stars because it really didn't feel 4 star worthy.

My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Kafi BBQ can be found in a shopping strip in Irving-Valley Ranch. Only opened Friday - Sunday, on my most recent Sunday visit around dinner time, Kafi was packed. The patrons were a great mix of families, BBQ lovers, and those looking for high quality Halal meats. Smoke was in the air. 1 Star. Service - The staff is super friendly and nice. Pro Tip - Go for lunch or before 6 before items are sold out. A few items were sold out on my most recent visit (my fault I arrived at 6:45) and the staff weren't aware of what was available, leading to some confusion, but they were so nice it didn't impact my meal. 1 Star. Food - By now, you've probably read or heard about Kafi's Wagyu Brisket. For me, I love following @kafibbq on Instagram so I can see what Salahodeen is cooking up. On this visit, it was the Brisket Sandwich. First off, the house baked bread roll is soft, but firm enough to hold Kafi's famous brisket on a pile of home made cole slaw and pickles. The result was one of the best BBQ sandwiches I've eaten. The bite was soft, smokey, crunchy, and tart (from the pickles). It was a special, and I'm not sure if Kafi will keep this on the menu, but I hope they do. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. It's pricey, but it's worth it. While the brisket is great, I suggest you follow them on Instagram to see what's cooking and plan your visit around the specialty items. 1 Star.
