Fluffy margarita
Nicole S.

I used to frequent Catch LA all the time back in the day before Catch Steak opened. It was always the go to for incredible energy, great music, a gorgeous crowd, and a full on party atmosphere. Having been away for a few years, I was excited to hear about their recent renovations and brand new menu, so when friends came to visit us from Dubai, it felt like the perfect excuse to check it out. The vibe is still definitely there, but the food was a bit of a letdown considering the hype around the revamp. I was expecting an upgrade, but overall, it fell a bit flat. The food and drinks highlights: -the pornstar cocktail has always been my favorite. -Miso Glazed Sea Bass is rich, buttery, and full of flavor. -Truffle Sashimi is Delicate, fresh, and well balanced with the tasty truffle. -Baby Gem Caesar Salad has the perfect crunch and flavor. -Crispy Cauliflower was the shock of the night! Crispy, seasoned well, and surprisingly outperformed the shrimp. The not so good dishes: -Crispy Shrimp used to be my favorite dish but today it was unusually bland and lacking seasoning. -Hamachi Watermelon Crudo is a definite pass for our table. The flavor pairing just didn't hit right for us. -Crunchy Rice Cakes & Hellfire Tuna Roll both decent, but nothing memorable. There were other dishes ordered at our table which I didn't try like the steak and vegetable roll. The service was fine nothing spectacular, but standard for the space. They still hold on to their classic pretension (strictly no seating until your entire party arrives), but on the bright side, we secured a great table right in the main dining area instead of getting tucked away in the smaller enclosed garden room. Being out in the energy of the main room made a big difference! We had a fun night out and the scene is still alive, but with so many incredible new dining spots opening across LA, I won't be rushing back anytime soon. Worth a visit for drinks and a few select bites, but temper your expectations on the rest of the menu!

Makrut Lime Spritz $14 - refreshing but original one had a bug in it lol

Cute vibes, on a little rooftop on the third or fourth floor of the building. Food is mid and overpriced tho. - Tuna Pizza $29: so simple; a thin layer of smashed tuna on a rice cracker. Tasty and slightly fragrant w the pedals. Worth a try if you're intrigued - Oysters $28: can't go wrong, but have had better vinaigrette - Stone Axe Wagyu Flatiron $75: saaaaalty. The steak itself was cooked medium and very tender but whatever was in top was so salty lol would not get again and it's like 10-12 slices - A5 Wagyu Fried Rice $64: less salty but still hard to swallow. I would recommend this over the flatiron tho - Brussels Sprouts $15: also super salty, would not get again. not crispy but the pomegranates were nice lol - NA Makrut Lime Spritz $14: refreshing grapefruit spritz BUT THERE WAS A BUG IN IT lol so the waiter got me a new one..... my favorite thing was the freshly baked complimentary pretzel croissant; it was unique and oh so fluffy Would not come back lol but glad I got to experience the vibes

Branzino

The catch in West Hollywood is gorgeous. From the entrance to the vibe the whole restaurant just vibrates. And you might see a celebrity here or there if you get lucky! I love eating something light and filling like their branzino! Top it with a drink and you're golden. I personally like the margarita special they have.

My boyfriend has been raving about this place for months so I gave it a shot. We had the best time here and the service was super attentive. The vibe is perfect for a date night especially with it being on a rooftop. I felt like the food was very good for sure, but sushi didn't blow my mind. I would recommend the Bok Choy Salad and shishito peppers! Such a cool experience 8/10!

Catch Roll and Hellfire Roll

I used to love Catch and I still do! The only con is they got rid of the iconic catch door and switched up the vibe a little which I don't love. However, the food is still delicious. My best friend and I went here for a little late night sushi and it did exactly what it needed to do. The service has been great the last few times I went and it didn't take too long to get seated.

The ambiance was amazing but the gluten free options on the website were not gluten free at the restaurant so my options were even more limited. The food was good but not amazing. The star of the show was the dessert the "hit me" chocolate cake. Not to mention or poor server was stretched thin so he wasn't able to be super attentive so we waited long gaps between ordering drinks and our food and waiting for the check etc. making what would have been and hourish long dinner into almost 2.5 hours.

I went back again the experience is still phenomenal. A lot of new faces. Keep it mind the flower wall that you see everyone is posting in front of on instagram is no more. You will need to find another spot. I was told by the manager they're expanding. It's a rooftop I am not too sure how they're going to extend. Also, the food here is high in sodium, for those of you with hypertension please dine responsibly.

Prime New York Strip + truffle butter Wagyu Fried Rice

Steak was super flavorful and cooked perfectly! Mashed potatoes were also super yummy and flavorful. Restaurant is very nice and perfect for a dinner date or girls night!

Kinda bummed they changed the decor because I was looking forward to seeing the flower entrance. It was my first time visiting and we started off at the bar while we waited for our table. Drinks were ok, food was good but kinda overpriced. Overall prob would come back if it was so expensive. Btw the pretzel croissant with the dill butter was amazing.

My sister ordered sake She gave it like five out of 10 overall.

Two stars. And that is me being generous in full West Hollywood glam. I used to come here about two or three years ago and it was that girl. Packed, loud, sparkler candles flying across the room, everyone dressed like they were either celebrating a birthday or soft launching a sugar daddy. The vibe was electric. This time? It felt like I walked into a chic boutique hotel lobby where everyone already owns property in Palm Springs and drinks sparkling water with dinner. It was definitely nicer and more polished, but the chaotic birthday magic I remembered just was not there. I come here for celebrations. I want noise. I want energy. I want drama. Instead it felt... mature. And not in the fun way. Now let's talk about the food because I truly set myself up. I brought my sister here for her birthday and I was hyping this place like I was getting commission. I ordered the truffle spaghetti, my sister got a roll, my friend ordered another pasta, and within minutes we were all silently wondering if we made a mistake. Either we ordered completely wrong or something changed, because for those prices I was expecting gourmet, high end, transcendent flavors. What we got was painfully underwhelming. I was actually embarrassed because I had raved about it so hard. I kept thinking, is this supposed to be elevated and I just don't get it? Because for the cost, it absolutely did not deliver. My drink was at least seventy five percent ice. I am not exaggerating. I felt like I paid premium pricing for a chilled water experience with a suggestion of alcohol. Our waiter was very happy, very enthusiastic, very committed to the full production. He pushed appetizers, mains, desserts, the whole journey. I respect the hustle, truly. But when the table energy is confusion and disappointment, it is hard to be convinced into a three course commitment. Now the saving grace. The birthday cake. The complimentary cake for my sister was phenomenal. Truly phenomenal. That cake is the reason this review has two stars instead of one. It was rich, delicious, and honestly the highlight of the night. If they let me walk in, order just that cake, and leave, I might consider returning. Although even that cake was twenty six dollars, which somehow still felt like the best value of the evening. Would I come back for the food? No. Would I come back if the old birthday chaos vibe magically returned? Maybe. Do I recommend it if you want to feel fabulous while quietly questioning the bill? Possibly. But for a place that charges like it is serving culinary art, I needed a lot more than ice and disappointment.

Valentines Night Dinner- Set Menu It was alright. I was expecting the setting & service to be a bit more upscale. The food was mediocre, & considering the balentine's menu is supposed to be their top dishes.. that's not good. The chairs are extremely uncomfortable as well. Had fun tho! Dressed Kumamoto Oyster 0/10- tasted so fishy & bad. They put caviar on it but that can't save the taste Catch Salmon Roll 8/10- pretty good, smoked salmon. kinda has a slimy taste Popcorn shrimp 9/10 - pretty good! coated in a Tasty Tangy sauce N.Y Strip Steak 5/10- comes pre-cut to share, doused in a Peppercorn Gravy sauce that I did not like AT ALL so I didn't really eat any Miso Sea Bass 10/10!!- Sooooo good I absolutely loved this dish Spinach Artichoke Salad- 100/10- SOOO GOOOOD i already miss it. Strong truffle & mushroom taste Waygu Beef Carpaccio 7/10- tastes like salami. very small. Mashed Potatoes 8/10- creamy with truffle & chives

I have dined at Catch LA on multiple occasions. I first came here during a birthday trip to LA. It had been on my list for a while due to the popularity on social media. I ended up enjoying not only the lively brunch atmosphere but also the food. I absolutely love the sushi and fries here. I've only been here for brunch but would like to visit for dinner the next time I'm in LA. The servers have always been attentive enough to meet our needs. The atmosphere is relaxed and I've never been made to feel rushed while dining here. Catch is a great dining option in West Hollywood.

The boat
Kate F.

We came with a group of 9 and got a couple of the boats plus some edamame and shishito peppers . I think the boat is overpriced and you would be better off doing one of the preset menus. We ordered the surf and turf roll since we were still hungry and I loved that one but it does have a strong truffle sauce. The rooftop is really cutely decorated so I did love the ambience

I also like their ChiRashi bowls - the fact that you can choose the fish and make your own combination is very nice. I have not seen it in any other restaurants. Service was super tentative and friendly. We had to wait a while for our food to come, but it was a weekend night so that's understandable. The ambience is casual and relaxing, kind of like a neighborhood eatery. Parking can be super difficult in this area. I recommend going north of Melrose and try to find spots in the residential area. They only have a few seats around the sushi counter/bar so I can see how it may get backed up/busy but we lucked out. There's no dedicated parking lot but they are located towards the end of 3rd street and Fairfax where the restaurants aren't as densely populated so street parking is a little easier. They have a couple of specials which are 8 cut rolls. My husband got 2 of those to share with his dad. I on the other hand went all in on the hand rolls and ordered the Blue Crab, Shrimp Tempura, Lobster, and Shiitake. All were fabulous - made when ordered and spaced out by the chef. I don't think I can pick a favorite but as a mushroom lover I was surprised by how good the Shiitake was and overall everything was super fresh. My husband also ordered Eel Nigiri and he said it was one of the best and freshest Nigiri's he's ever had. Only downside is the price - obviously sushi is always on the higher end but I felt their prices were $2-5 more expensive than they should be depending on the roll which definitely adds up over the course of a meal. Still very good quality though!

Outdoor consists of the sidewalk & a sectioned off patio section. I liked the dark ambiance, it felt very romantic. The lighting was very intimate. A waitress came, got our drink orders and we ordered the duck breast as an appetizer. We got our drinks, which the tall glass is very misleading as I felt like I barely sipped anything and it was GONE, lol. I ordered the watermelon drink and it was tasty, I just wanted watermelon water anyways. It came with a watermelon slice which was nice. After the drinks we were WAITING idk how long until a different waitress came and took our order ?? We put in our entree, received them & never got our appetizer. We were waiting a long time for someone else to come by. I ordered the seared kanpachi jalapeño roll, which 10/10!! it was flavorful, had the spice & felt fresh. I didn't have to add anything like soy sauce to it. I just eat all my sushi with ginger and it paired great with it. Finally someone showed up & we said we ordered a duck breast appetizer with the first waitress, which was never put in. So the second waitress went ahead and put it in. The duck breast has an interesting texture. I can't explain it. I did not like the texture. The flavor was fine but the texture really threw me off personally. Kind of reminded me of pâté cat food, it felt like how paté cat food looks if that makes sense. Texture wise. Overall, service was trash. The waitresses were both unfriendly, but I guess that's just LA customer service nowadays. We waited forever. Spent more time waiting rather than eating. Valet or street metered parking.
