Having been away for a few years, I was excited to hear about their recent renovations and brand new menu, so when friends came to visit us from Dubai, it felt like the perfect excuse to check it out. Packed, loud, sparkler candles flying across the room, everyone dressed like they were either celebrating a birthday or soft launching a sugar daddy. The vibe was electric. This time? We chose this restaurant to celebrate a bachelorette party, and unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing. We called ahead to let the restaurant know we were running late and were told it wouldn't be a problem. After ordering, we still waited nearly two hours for our food. Our drinks didn't arrive until after we had already gone through 3-4 rounds of appetizers. We also informed the staff about a food allergy and requested no cross-contamination, yet they still served drinks containing the ingredient we asked them to avoid. When our entrées finally arrived, they were brought to the wrong people, and no one explained which steaks were medium versus medium rare, so we had to figure it out ourselves. When I spoke to the manager, Courtney, about the long wait, instead of apologizing she blamed us for arriving late, even though we had called ahead and were assured it was fine. The restaurant was made for influencers and to take beautiful pictures for social media. Same with the food. The presentation is beautiful. I personally am Japanese and prefer not to pay extraordinary prices for Americanized sushi but I admit it was tasty. 5 piece roll can cost $30 which I didn't feel was worth it. We get there and within minutes the waiter casually tells us they took it off the menu a long time ago. When I asked why their online menu still shows it, he just said "oops, I'll let the manager know." The manager never came. No apology, nothing. That alone told me everything about how they operate. I am very much dismayed to share that my experience at Catch solidified that it's just another extremely over-hyped and over-priced LA spot. We went on a Monday night in late December. We were lucky that we found street parking in front of the Pacific Design Center. There was no line to be seated; apparently, there usually is. Walking up to the building with friends, I noticed Valet service and a very noticeable bouncer who ensured we had reservations before letting us board the elevator to Catch on the roof. The menu is definitely Asian fusion, and all the sushi is flown in direct from Toyosu Fish Market in Tokyo. As I was there with people who'd already been there before, I let them do all the ordering. We got the Oysters, Truffle Sashimi, Tuna Tartare, Truffle Mushroom Spaghetti, Prime Ribeye, Wagyu Fried Rice, and Miso-Glazed Sea Bass, along with various other cocktails as the evening progressed.
