Honestly not sure what the hype is about. I drove an hour and a half from Orange County specifically for their octopus. That was the whole reason I made a birthday reservation here. We get there and within minutes the waiter casually tells us they took it off the menu a long time ago. When I asked why their online menu still shows it, he just said "oops, I'll let the manager know." The manager never came. No apology, nothing. That alone told me everything about how they operate. If there's an issue at the table, especially at a restaurant at this price point, the manager should be coming over themselves. Not "I'll pass it along." And on top of everything, it was my birthday. Packed, loud, sparkler candles flying across the room, everyone dressed like they were either celebrating a birthday or soft launching a sugar daddy. The vibe was electric. This time? I have dined at Catch LA on multiple occasions. I first came here during a birthday trip to LA. It had been on my list for a while due to the popularity on social media. I ended up enjoying not only the lively brunch atmosphere but also the food. I absolutely love the sushi and fries here. My other half brought me here for my birthday. The restaurant is located in West Hollywood. Street parking was fairly easy. I'm a fan of rooftops restaurants, i wouldn't necessarily consider this a rooftop, it's on the second floor but nonetheless the view is beautiful. The restaurant was made for influencers and to take beautiful pictures for social media. Same with the food. The presentation is beautiful. I personally am Japanese and prefer not to pay extraordinary prices for Americanized sushi but I admit it was tasty. 5 piece roll can cost $30 which I didn't feel was worth it. But I'll admit everything tasted good. The service was attentive and good. We sat outside and the view was nice. The general alliance of the restaurant was extremely beautiful. When we arrived, we had to take an elevator up. there's a doorman/ security by the entrance who guides you the way and just a heads-up, there's no dedicated parking, so you'll need to park on the street and just be sure to read the signs because they'll ticket you in a flash if you miss the meter or tow your car. I am very much dismayed to share that my experience at Catch solidified that it's just another extremely over-hyped and over-priced LA spot. We went on a Monday night in late December. We were lucky that we found street parking in front of the Pacific Design Center. There was no line to be seated; apparently, there usually is. Once we were seated, the vibes with our waiter were off. I'm not sure if it was because we were younger and weren't understanding the humor, but there was just a mismatch there with the jokes. However, I can see how this can feel very limiting for other guests. A few moments later we were notified that they were out of ingredients for the salad we ordered. Walking up to the building with friends, I noticed Valet service and a very noticeable bouncer who ensured we had reservations before letting us board the elevator to Catch on the roof. We got two pieces of the Otoro nigiri. It was fresh and the rice had so much flavor. The the king crab hand roll came and that was packed with flavor and the texture and sweetness of the king crab was amazing. Cooked perfectly and really yummy with and without the truffle butter. The Hit Me cake was divine and very rich but oh so yummy in flavors. I was at Catch on Sunday which was amazing per usual but saw a horrifying scene that almost made me lose my appetite. I saw a repulsive Russian woman yelling at a manager because she was trying to stay late after closing time. When the manager politely asked them to leave so they could close for the night the Russian shrieked out with a high pitch Gabbagool sound that hurt my ears. She had her friend try to take out her phone to record the interaction in what I assume was a feeble attempt to get a free meal since it looked like she was wearing discount clothes and couldn't afford the meal. I can honestly say that I did not have a bad bite of anything. And I had a bunch of bites of fantastic. We started with three of the sashimis and crudos. The flavor in the truffle sashimi is second to none! And I'm not huge on truffle. However, if it is in a dish at catch you can catch me ordering it. We ordered a catch roll which was fine but probably one of the more mid dishes. We had shishito peppers which can be hot but were perfect. We had truffle fries and mashed potatoes also for the sides. The mashed potatoes were so good we ordered a second order. Speaking of second orders. We also ordered a second dish of the mushroom truffle pasta. I didn't try it the first time. Was convinced the second time and it could have been the best bite of the night. We also ordered the ribeye and miso seabass for our man dishes. Speaking of yet another second we ordered a second seabass it was THAT good. And kind of small when sharing. We finished the meal with the donuts which were good but his donuts. Today (12/27/25), my friends and I visited Catch, excited to return after having great service during our last visit. Unfortunately, this experience was extremely disappointing. Our server, Juliane, appeared inattentive and unprofessional throughout the night. Service was very slow. Juliane seemed to be under the influence. Water took about 20 minutes to arrive, and our main dishes were served before the appetizers. Because of this, we canceled all the appetizers altogether. If all food is taken at once, it should be properly coursed. What made things worse was the lack of concern or urgency from our server. She even dropped one of our drinks on the floor, which only added to our frustration. Overall, the service felt careless and disorganized, completely ruining the experience. Due to this poor service, we decided to skip dessert and go to another restaurant instead. Sadly, we will not be returning. Ive been to catch about 10 times and let's be real, Catch LA is more than just dinner.. it's a whole vibe. You dress up, show out, and the place just has that boujee, night-out energy. Perfect lighting, perfect crowd, and every corner's a photo op. Service stays top-tier too, the staff's always on it, super chill but professional. I used to love Catch - it was one of those places that felt like an experience the moment you arrived. The entrance alone set the tone: elevated, a little dramatic, and full of that unmistakable energy that made a night out feel special. I spent a lot of time there in my 30s, and some really great memories are tied to that space. Since the remodel, though, something feels different. The design is still polished, but the vibe doesn't quite have the same spark. It leans more toward safe and curated than vibrant and alive, and the atmosphere that once felt electric now feels a bit...stale. That said, the food was good, and our server was truly amazing and a big part of what made the night enjoyable. I'm just a little sad about the changes. We have visited the Catch restaurant and bar in Vegas and the experience was great. This location didn't disappoint either! For some reason the host couldn't find our reservation but still seated us promptly nonetheless. And our wonderful server was able to accommodate our request to move to a cozy corner table. The menu was Asian fusion my favorite type of food. We started off with bottle of cold sake. The wine markups were Hollywood high of course. For food we had edamame, shishito peppers, crispy rice and whole Branzino for two. Food was delicious especially the fish! For dessert we had coconut sorbet, grey goose espresso martini and espresso. Our server was fantastic that we were very impressed! We really enjoyed our dinner and would like to come back again! read more
