All I wanted was to print 10 color copies of my holiday letter. I asked the person at the counter how to do duplex printing and he said he'd come right over and help me out as soon as I opened the file. I was less than 10 feet away from him, and how long does it take to open a file? Click. It's open. He was nowhere to be found for the next 10 minutes. I gave up. These guy's were great and not only helped me solve my urgent PC issue, they helped relieve a huge burden of stress that I had build myself upon over nearly a week of critical work and PC failure. After my CPU fried on me while working on Thurs. (the music went into a deep hiss and the screen totally froze,) I went into total panic mode, wondering if my documents had saved and how I was gonna get my boss the content he needed to go live by Monday!!! My PC wasn't initializing the bios, and I knew I had to get my critical data right away. I called the guys I usually do, remain calm, and they did not have the room to take me in. So I called another guy Rich at Grey Matter, who was able to get me my critical data in 2 days time, while having issues with the external I gave him to transfer too and having to bring him a whole new one after the first one failed.........I think you are getting the gist of this situation.....By Saturday I think I had my files and was in the clear for Monday deadline, though I still did not have my personal PC I use for work, which is my essentially my wife as a gay male, as I honor and worship her. I use my PC for personal and work use; she is a massive silverstone fortress 2 chassis -- all custom by digital storm-- and I definitely won't be giving her up anytime soon. All in all after calling the manufacturer, finding out my warranty status, then just buying the parts and installing it all myself; my computer still didn't want to boot. I took it in to Castro Computer Services and they assured me after a rush order on the SAME DAY I took it in, that I had done my upgrades properly and I just didn't not port an extra fan that the new mobo needed the other one didn't. I feel like if I had just brought her here in the fist place I wouldn't have gone through all the stress and trouble. I now just need to upgrade my cooling system, and I will be set. These guy's also talked some sense into me as to my PC builds without having to say much. Something my friends have been trying to do for years :p. Thank you Mark for helping me laugh!! As good as it gets. They know computers- fixed both my laptop and an older desktop which was riddled with spyware. They are very realistic and do not attempt to rip you off- recommended that I would be better off buying a new desktop rather than upgrading the older one- they even did the cost analysis and made recommendations on a system for me. FYI: I'm a small businessman and don't have an IT person at my beck and call. No problems with communication- calls returned if they couldn't answer right then. I obviously don't spend much time writing reviews--but this one is merited, and long overdue. Many months ago I left a laptop at Castro with a crashed hard drive, just to see if any of the files could be recovered. They were immediately up front with me, letting me know it was unlikely, especially without a big investment, but that they'd give it a shot. They called a few days later to let me know that indeed the whole thing was shot (no surprise) and that I could come pick it up at any point. Two months and several calls later I finally show up, and I am told there won't be any charge. I'm not sure if they're into publicizing the idea that they'll work for free, but they certainly earned my future business. read more

I needed a quote for damage done to my computer when a TSA agent dropped it during travel in order to get reimbursed. I called that morning, Susan got back to me right away. I will never bring my computer here again. The staff is NOT friendly. I asked them to fix one thing and they told me the price was $99 an hour but if it took a half hour, that's all I would have to pay for. I've got it easier because I can carry my computer down the street to Castro Computer Services. But I would drive across town for the valued service I have received here. Heck, I'd drive across one of the bridges. Susan and Raj and Mike and Eduardo and other folks here have saved my rear end countless times over the past several years. [It took Apple geniuses three times even to get the music and photos right, each time with me hauling two sizable computers downtown.] Don't let Apple tell you that data transfer from a PC is easy; it is not, and they do a crummy job of it--never taking time to do it right, just taking time to do it again. Check out this review! It's much closer to what I experienced with them than the reviews they are shoowing. It's like some of these people weren't even at the same place. This place was GREAT! The staff was super friendly, and didn't try to sell me anything. I don't know where the other reviewer was, but it couldn't have been where I went. My 6 year old laptop screen cracked, and when I went in, they told me that it would cost more to fix than the computer was worth, and encouraged me to NOT use their services because I could better spend my money getting a new computer. They gave me a list of recommendations to make shopping for a new computer easier. When I get the new computer, I'll be going back to have my stuff on my old computer moved to the new one. I have used Castro computer Services for many, many years and have never been disappointed. Last night I feared my PC was dead - or at least, in a coma. I called this morning and Susan said she could have a tech come out later in the morning. For my convenience, I sheduled the tech at 4 PM. Tap showed up on time and well prepared. He was skilled and efficient (as I have always found CCS techs to be). It took him only a few minutes to diagnose the problem. In addition to fixing it, he deleted many unused or unusable programs and files, making the computer run much faster. Hew as personable and cheerful and took time to explain everything. These guys are just the best. I've used them a couple of times for 'big' jobs -- once to rehab my crashed PC and once to set up a new one and transfer old files -- and I've always been completely satisfied with their work, their price, etc. But this time I was having a pain-in-the-neck problem with my cheapie printer. The guy I talked to on the phone (after a couple of other shops had told me they don't work on desk-top printers) said he wasn't sure he could help but if I would bring it in he'd take a look for no charge. So I did, and in about 5 minutes he fixed it. It wasn't really so complicated -- he just found a menu that I thought was there somewhere but couldn't find and so couldn't install a new ink cartridge (the operator's manual is no help, to say the least). He fixed it and then showed me what he'd done so I can do it next time. I said, you have to let me pay you. And he said, I can't, I didn't do anything. Well, I beg to differ. I couldn't make him take any money but he (and the others who have done work for me) have got my business forever. Competent, conscientious, courteous, cool. read more

I have worked with Raj and Susan for over four years now. I recently began working with Mike who is very helpful. These guys are amazing. They work very hard. They are also very honest, and if they think it will be a bigger hassle to fix the problem then what the computer is worth, they say so. They are folks with a lot of integrity. I think these guys are great. My laptop crashed a few months ago and I brought it to them to fix. It was a lost cause (failed hard drive) but they were able to save and transfer almost all my data to a new laptop. The price was very reasonable ($200 or so) because even though the problem took a long time to diagnose, they just charge a flat fee, not by the hour. They were also very helpful with follow up questions regarding my e-mail settings, and when I called (on numerous occasions) with additional questions like what kind of backup hard drive to invest in, what kind of charger they recommend, etc. I really get the sense that they are trying to serve my needs and not just make a buck. read more

What a great group. They not only came when scheduled, they tried to get me inand fixed a couple days earlier. My computer was almost completely shut down, which also kills my sound system. Honest service, reasonable prices ...Raj was extremely organized and efficient...I would highly recommend him and his organization.

Although Comcast claimed they were sending me 90 mbps down, my computer was only seeing around 30. Raj diagnosed the problem to an old router provided by Vonage (for my phones), which could only handle lower speeds. He recommended an Apple Extreme, and an Apple Express to replace my other Netgear router downstairs. Once the parts came, Raj returned and set everything up, and 'tweaked' the Vonage router. Not only am I getting my true 90 mbps down, but my wireless performance downstairs has improved considerably. He was in and out in less than an hour, and my down time was minimal.
