Casual and friendly ambiance! I stopped by here on a weekday lunch to pick up focaccia pizza for my family. We followed the instructions for reheating, and the focaccia turned out to be fresh! Not a pizza or a focaccia person, but was highly approved by my family who loved the Capricciosa and Spicy Sopressata pizza, and the Zucchini Pesto Focaccia. I LOVED the Farinata and the supplì. Super reasonable prices too, this place reminded me of the Eataly marketplace where one piece of flatbread goes for about $18, but here I'd say the quality and freshness is even better for 1/3 of the price! I'm nervous. This place has been amazing for years. My gf, who is from Rome, loved the pizza here. I just went in and in addition to the classic focaccia pizza, they've now added Peruvian rotisserie chicken and tamales?!?! You know what never works, taking a carefully curated authentic Italian menu and then mix in a bunch of new dishes from all over the world. The focaccia still looks the same, for now. The new items are big red flags. Whoever is running this place, zero chance they are still Italian, I beg you, please don't run this gem into the ground! read more

This restaurant has a really nice vibe inside. I went in for a to go order and the decor was soo calming and sophisticated. The pizzas displayed by the counter makes it more appetizing. The employees are very friendly. The food doesn't just look great but also tastes great. My only suggestion is that since the prosciutto is a bit too salty (duh), make sure you balance the bites well even if that means manually moving the meat on the bread. YUM- I really enjoyed my huge square slice of Margherita from Casa Barotti. They were about to close and I was looking for a quick dinner to pair with my original plan to get Tara's Organic ice cream before heading home. Several of the College Ave gems looked full- it was a Friday eve after all. Casa Barotti was the new kid on the block and it looked like it fit with my best laid plans. Going back to my fresh mozzarella laden, simply San Marzano tomato sauced, crispy crusted slice- it was just what I needed to enjoy a few bites of tasty pizza and fill me up a bit. Ingredients were fresh- that crust is just amazing. I was tempted to get another slice of another interesting flavor and an arancini ball but that will have to wait for next time. (I was planning on getting a medium scoop at Tara's) Price was $5 a slice, there are some indoor and outdoor dining spots, and they warm your pizza in the oven after you order for that crispy finish. Cozy place! The person that took our order and the server were so pleasant and friendly. A lot has been said about their focaccia pizzas in other reviews, they are delicious! Crispy and flavorful!. My favorite dish here was the mazzmora morada - the Peruvian dessert. It was in a soup like consistency, not too sweet , plenty fruity like a fruit soup!! So delicious. I stopped by Casa Barotti for the first time after my friend raved about their pizza, salads, and croquettes. Naturally, I was excited to try them, only to find out that the croquettes are gone. Gone gone gone. (plays NSYNC's Gone song) We ordered two slices of pizza (which were solid--great crust, good flavors) and a lentil salad, which unfortunately did not live up to his hype. He insisted their salads used to be amazing, but this one? Dry, uninspired, and honestly kind of forgettable. On the bright side, the drinks were a win--I had a San Pellegrino Pomegranate and an Italian Coca-Cola, both refreshing. But when the bill came out to $50 for two slices, a sad salad, and some drinks? Felt meh. Would I come back? Maybe, but only if they bring back the croquettes and level up their salads again. Fantastic! Not normally a fan of any pizza other than Napoltano style , it is just too thick and too heavy. We just went here hoping the the reviews lined up with our palette. What a slice of heaven this place is! Super cool vibe, authentic Italian feel. The foccacia was light , airy, and melt in your mouth delicious. You know what I was also very excited about seeing? Going to see a little small bakery that sold pizza by the slice called Pizzarium (Bonci)! Casa Barotti is a newer Spizzicheria- "place to nibble and share" in Berkeley. Their pizza crust lies somewhere between regular pizza and foccacia. It's soft on the top and crispier on the bottom. Barotti is a great place to get some slices for a snack or take it home for a meal! Friendly service with staff giving you great instructions on how to reheat it at home. A spizzicheria in Berkeley! No, not a pizzeria, a spizzicheria. You'll find a variety of Italian snack-type foods here, like different focaccia and panzerotti. Just don't expect full blown entrees. These casual takeout spots serving great bites are one of the things I really miss about Italy. It's carb-loading time here! I was a kid in a candy store here and got 4 items all for myself (happy Tuesday to me!). I got the Focaccia Genoese, a panzerotto, and a slice of Farinata and Sfinciono. My favorite was the hearty Sfinciono with the awesome fresh tomato sauce and cheese. A close second was the panzerotto, which was nicely deep fried and filled with just the right amount of cheese and light tomato sauce. I'm partial to the focaccia in Liguria, where I had them several times a week, but it's nice to have the Genovese-style available here in the Bay. I'd definitely suggest having this warmed. Props for putting farinata on the menu. I can't recall seeing this anywhere in the Bay Area! It's super popular in Turin (Torino) in Northern Italy, where the owners hail. Takeout only currently. Everything is on display and made in small batches, which is great so that items aren't just sitting on display for hours. They will re-heat whatever items you'd like. Everything here is super fresh! Crispy bottom focaccia - not too thick, light and perfectly topped w/what - a dozen different staple styles and combinations (leek & mushroom!!!) not to mention the porchetta and ham focaccia sandwiches. Simple strait forward Italian white & red wines by bottle or glass. We like to buy 1/2 a dozen slices, cut them into 4, and serve at parties as appetizers. This is my favorite place. My family is italian so I'm very picky with italian food. The staff is very friendly, I love speaking italian with them. It feels like home. The pizza is amazing, my favorite is Cipolla e Gorgonzola, and the one with Melanzane. This is the only place where you can find farinata. It's very common to eat pizza with that in my country so I buy it every time I go to this wonderful place. Also, they have some italian seasonal food like Zeppole di San Giuseppe and Baci Perugina Easter chocolate eggs. Just do yourself a favor and go now!!! read more

We accidentally found this gem while looking for a spot for dinner tonight. The food, decor, and friendly reception reminded us immediately of Rome. The creative pizza's by the slice kept us wanting more, and we loved that the soprasotta was nice and spicy. The lasagna was just lovely with the béchamel sauce (no ricotta thank you!), and we found ourselves stuffed without breaking the bank. Best part is their happy hour. This place is hands down one of my new favorites! My partner and I decided to come here on a Saturday evening just before 6:30pm--no wait and plenty of seating. The pizza here is absolutely amazing...we could not rave about it more. As people walked by, they eyed our selection and we couldn't help but talk about how they should definitely try it out! I thought maybe because it's a focaccia style pizza it'd be a heavier dinner. NOT SO! The focaccia was so incredibly light and perfectly crisp...we were amazed and so happy we decided to come here. Our unanimous favorite the soppressata pizza. BUT we honestly loved the other 3 we got: patate zucchine, puttanesca, and margherita. Because they have aperitivo daily, we each ordered a glass of wine that came with some sampler bites of focaccia and pizza--absolutely amazing!! You will not be disappointed coming here. Came here for the first time this past weekend and I can truly say I'm obsessed. Cute little spot with limited outdoor seating, a healthy wine list, and great looking pizza, sandwiches and a few salads. My partner and I ordered some pizza - mine with zucchini, pesto and potato and his with prosciutto, mozz and marinara. We also opted to get a salad with mixed greens, strawberries, red onions and fresh shaved parm. Unfortunately we had some errands to run so we didn't try the wine this time, although we saw a bunch of people enjoying some with their meals. The food came out quickly, and the service was super friendly. The pizza was excellent - the crust was so crispy and the zucchini, pesto and potato combo was delicious. They cut the giant slice in half but I could've eaten two for sure. My partner also really liked his and I though it was very good (although I liked mine a bit more). The salad was an awesome portion for $10, and dressed so lightly with the perfect mix of balsamic evoo and salt. I immediately went to the store so I could try and recreate this at home. I've been meaning to try this place for a while, given my love of pizza and all Italian food, but they are closed on Monday which is a bummer for me. I came by around 2 pm on a Sunday and it was not too busy. I had an arancini (with tomato sauce and ground beef), a slice of pizza with zucchini, and a glass of wine, for $22. Everything was delicious! The pizza especially. Loved the crust and the zucchini was perfect- not overdone or mushy. Not really a dine in place, more a quick service place with a few tables inside and a few on the sidewalk. I will definitely return for lunch on my own or a quick bite with a friend. read more

OMG, this is truly top of the line pizza. If you haven't tried it, you must! I have my favs but everything is wonderful. The food, the service, the cleanliness of the restaurant, the lighting and the music filtering through the restaurant...MUAH! We love pizza, wine and nice music. What I especially liked was music being played in the background of artist I've never heard before. Being musician ourselves you get exhausted hearing the same stuff played on the radio, so to hear new artist also added to the already GREAT EXPERIENCE that the manager and his team brought to the fore-front. There's something special when you unintentionally stumble upon a small little foodie spot. Well, my experience with Casa Barotti was just that. No it's not a love at first sight (lol) but I was filled with giggles (joy), like an infant, watching all the delicious squares displayed through the glass counter. I must've had a craving for pizza, since it felt like months since I last had a slice/square. The wifey and I originally had different plans to pickup pastries for breakfast but I wasn't going to complain. =) To be honest I had no high expectation, thinking this was another Bay Area pizzeria offering sourdough square slice (new fad?). We look through their menu, picked 3 that we liked and asked to be packed for takeout. The staff working behind the counter was a cool, helpful with the introduction of their menu options and even gave us heating tips on the way out (sticker on togo box offers heating tips as well). When we got home we decided to snack on one of the square slice. Did i mention earlier about having low expectation? Well, let me just say that the phrase "don't judge the book by its cover" hit me really hard, when i took a bite of the slice. If there's anything unique about their pizza, one of the stand out is definitely the focaccia bread. I don't know if they make it in-house but it is so airy and not doughy, almost like a croissant texture which makes it so different from any other pizza that I've had in the Bay Area. It literally feels like the focaccia bread melts in your mouth, it's so delish!! We were immediately impressed and addicted. So much that we went back the following weekend to explore more of their alternative options. I must say, this is currently one of our favorite place to pick up morning savory eats, or pizza for that matter. Don't take our word for it though, I understand everyone has their preference. If you're tired of the same and want to get into trying something new, give Casa Barotti a go. This might turn into your new favorite spot for you as well. read more

Love Casa Barotti! My friends and I meet here for their happy hour as often as we can. For every glass of wine you buy, you receive a small board of assorted flat breads and a small bowl of castelvetrano olives and crackers. We usually add an additional flat bread or two and a salad. I am partial to their margarita flat bread and the burrata salad. Their house red is also particularly delicious and low in tannins, which I like. Highly recommend. read more

This place is a new must! Come for a good drink, good ambiance, and great food. Their focaccia - base for all their pizzas - is incredible. The best focaccia I have had outside of Italy. I am an avid home baker and was happy to finally find a focaccia that is better than my homemade one. The staff are also lovely and very kind. One unique feature of this place is that, in addition to having incredible food, they have "aperitivo" and offer an appetizer with the purchase of a drink. In addition to trying their pizzas and other food options, you get to try their delicious focaccia and other pizzas. Very Italian. I will most certainly return for more! read more

Food is pretty good but the service left a horrible impression. Wish I could take back my tip. We visited this restaurant expecting a casual dining experience, similar to what you'd find in a bakery or café, where you order at the counter and you can choose to sit down at one of the tables with your food or grab and go. The setup seemed to support this, with a cashier at the front, a menu displayed prominently on the main wall, and no server in sight. Plus, the pizza was already made and on display to grab and go. Upon ordering, we noticed several empty tables and decided to sit down to quickly try a bite before the drive home. However, we were quickly approached by one of the cooks (or hidden kitchen staff?), who informed us that the tables were reserved for dine-in customers only and asked us to leave. This was confusing, as it was not apparent that they offered a full dine-in option without a waiter around, and the restaurant was not busy at the time. Plus, how would one fully dine-in if the food isn't even made to order? I would have the cashier (again, there's no waiter) bring me my plate instead of me picking it up from the cashier four steps away after just ordering from them? The enforcement of this policy felt unnecessarily strict and absurd and made for a very unwelcoming and upsetting experience. Squisito!! This is the best neighbor Rockridge could ask for! This spizzicheria (a casual food & drink spot, courtesy of the beautiful Italian work "spizzicare" = to nibble) will transport you to the hole-in-the-wall gems of Italy that make the culture and cuisine so amazing. Freshly-baked and colorful foccacia, calzones, farinata, arancini and more are laid out and waiting for your perusal. The staff are incredible friendly and will teach you about some of the different offerings, many of which you may not have heard of, as they are difficult to find outside of Italy. You can palpably feel the authentic love for Italian fare and culture inside Casa Barotti. My favorite so far are the suppli (fried risotto balls), the eggplant & parmesan foccacia, and the fried mini calzone! You can't go wrong with any of the foccacia, and there will likely be new ones to try every time you return. They also offer apertifs and nice indoor and outdoor seating for a festive apertivo with spritzes and snacks - something I will definitely be back soon to indulge in! read more

The Bay Area is not lacking for pizza places. In fact I would argue we have plenty of options unfortunately most of them fall short in the quality, innovation and price point. Hooray for Casa Barotti ! For me it checks all the boxes. They have a daily happy hour from 4-6:30 PM. Seating out front that is on a busy but roomy street / sidewalk location in a nice area of Berkeley and the pizza is top notch. It reminded me of the pizza joints in Rome that had long trays of oblong pizza / focaccia with interesting toppings and high quality ingredients. Happy hour - offers up a nice free platter of olives, hard chunks of Parmesan cheese, some typical twisted crackers and a sample of pizza slices - two smaller pieces per person. Tasty and nice ! We ordered a few more squares of pizza - one w roasted eggplant and olives and the second slices with arugula and aged Parma ham sliced on top. Both had a nicely fluffy and airy focaccia base with a thoughtful selection of fresh and tasty toppings. Two of us ate well and to be eligible for the happy hour we ordered one small glass of beer on tap (an IPA and a Lager) for $4/each...which got us the happy hour deal/platter. All in, figuring $6-7 per square of pizza we spent less than $30 including a tip. My kinda happy hour ! We will definitely be back. Be aware they close at 6:30 PM so not a late night spot.
