I was excited to potentially buy a used car from Carmax as I had heard good things. I paid the delivery fee and had a 2018 transported from another state. When we went for the appointment for the test drive I was left waiting for an hour and when I explained that I would be leaving there was no attempt to reschedule or give any type of ETA, only a lame apology that they only had a few people available (when there were at least a half dozen people sitting around on their phones). When contacted a few days later by a standard follow up I explained how disappointed I was. And was told that I could make an express appointment, which apparently is different from a regular appointment, and which case they would have someone there take me on the test drive, and also have all of the paperwork ready...this is what I Thought I had come for? So there is a different level after already paying to have a car shipped over? Being annoyed, we went out for lunch and started looking at alternatives - found a 2022 for the same price. It didn't come with quite as many features but for the same price and 30k less miles? Guess I found a much better option... buyer beware. read more

I have purchased 2 cars from here in the past year both times I had issues with the car. First one was a Honda Accord 2019 it had lots of problems but Carmax did great on fixing it. When we went in for the second car we had a Tahoe we took for a test drive and the engine blow out on us, so I ended up with a Mercedes and the first one I had to return due to a polling issue and the second one is doing the same and now the check engine light is on I made an appointment but I'm so frustrated I tried to call corporate but no one has gotten back to me! My car was stolen on July 15th. I am trying to figure out my next car, so so went into CarMax on July 24 to look at cars. I went through the lot and found a few cars I wanted to try out. Well, I couldn't test drive a car. They only set up appointments to test drive cars. So, I set up an appointment 3 days later. They had texted me the day b4 saying they would email me to send in my DL and insurance. I never received an email. So the morning of my test drive, I texted them saying I never received an email. They basically blamed me, and finally sent the email. I sent in all information, but when I arrived to my appt time, they acted like so didn't have an appt. Then they told me I could only test drive 2 cars! WTF??? So, I chose a Honda Civic and a ago da Accord. The Civic had a faulty air conditioner, so that was a waste of time. We had a great experience with selling our SUV with CarMax in Pleasant Hill. They were recommended by our Porsche Dealership and they did indeed give us what we considered a fair and reasonable price for our car. The employees were all excellent and super helpful. It is so nice to drive in and walk out with a check- made things very easy. My only complaint is although we had an appointment (they were unable to provide an online appraisal) they were backed up and the entire process took us about 2 hours and 15 minutes. The good is that they've got a big selection of fairly late model cars from a wide variety of brands. The bad is that their 'no haggle' price is not competitive. I guess they don't haggle so that they don't have to excuse their overpricing? Even from other major dealers you can find the exact same models for thousands less, so what's the benefit of CarMax? Worst car buying experience ever! We had a car transferred from another CarMax to our local Pleasant Hill location. We had a 2pm appointment, 50 minutes later they finally meet with us to take a look at the car, first person that helped us was nice. We test drive it, we said it was dirty in the interior, crumbs, pet hair, spills etc. They then give us another sales person when ours went on break, he sent it to detail, we wait and complete paperwork, we paid cash so there was not extra time for loan application, the car is still not ready. We receive it just as dirty in the inside, they only rinsed on the exterior for a second time. This was an expensive suv, the check marks on their paperwork regarding work they said was done on the car was wrong. They couldn't explain anything, manager could not help. I rarely write reviews but this a bad experience, if the car had not been the model and color we had wanted we would have walked out. We were at CarMax from 2pm-6:30pm! read more

Brought my Tacoma in for some routine maintenance. It was a super pleasant process and the cost wasn't bad at all. The staff was prompt at greeting me and getting the job done quickly- they also did a full inspection and suggested a couple other services that would need to be done in order of priority but didn't feel like I was being upsold on unnecessary work or preyed upon because I'm a female and clueless about cars, unlike most other car service shops. So from the start, my experience with this location carmax was off to a rocky start, i came in one day looking to test drive a vehicle i had seen on their website when i arrived i was told i couldnt test drive because they were so "busy" that day but as i browsed around i seen lots of salespeople sitting around... but thats the smallest of my issues, that same day i went online to reserve the car to test drive a few days later, so come that day i went in to test drive & was appointed a saleswoman who said she would be my point of contact if i had any questions i also had her write up a sales contract so i could have all my number in order when going to the bank that day she gave me her personal phone number, the next day i contacted her to say i was interested & wanted to buy, she never responded, so i contacted my bank to get my loan & as i was trying to contact her to let her know i wanted to get the ball rolling to purchase this car she never responded, id call the customer service they transfer me from ext to ext... nobody had any answers for me, one lady who answered the phone one day was very rude and kept speaking over me & interrupting me after she would ask me a question... all in all it took me a month to buy a car from start to finish & the customer service was TERRIBLE... for me shopping with this location is a NO GO... even the manager was rude... 10/10 do not recommend read more

Got the insurance as instructed, and every document. Got there today and was helped by a young man who had to leave. No worries. A young woman, bright skin came to sit in front of me. Said nothing and proceeded to look into my application or whatever. With a nasty attitude messed up my original offers, ran my credit again, shot any chance for me and my family an opportunity to buy from anywhere else due to covid and getting back on our feet. And after it was all done a nice manager offers me a gas card to fill my rental and it's on full already. Stay full. Just cause you see me there don't make me broke it makes you available. But to mess my credit up, knowing you messed it all the way up, and all you say is sorry!!!!! It will come around though. It always does. Don't trust them!! I went to this carmax this past weekend and had an awesome experience! My sales person was so great! And easy to work with. Her name was Kira and I also had another guy named Caesar who helped with all the financing afterwards. I went to the carmax in Pleasant Hill because I had a pretty bad experience at my local Carmax which is in Santa Rosa. Let's just say I've gone through two cars from that carmax in the last three weeks and a loaner car from them also. My first time purchasing my vw Tiguan was a nightmare, long story short the carmax in Santa Rosa sold me a lemon, so I had to bring that one back and they let me exchange it for another car which I then chose a Honda CR-V. I had the crv for two day, I didn't end up liking it. Friday evening I thought I'd just check out another carmax further away and I came across Pleasant Hill, and I found a beautiful BMW 328i. I was in love already, bmw is my dream car. So, I applied for the pre-qualification and the next morning I got an email and text saying i was approved. I was like ok yay! So I then called the Pleasant Hill carmax and made an appointment to see the car and go over everything. When my husband and I arrived, we walked through and was greeted by Kira. Such a great presence! So right away she sat us down and we got started and I told her my whole situation and what the Santa Rosa carmax put me through. After the whole story, she did the finance process and we went through everything. Unfortunately, it was a very long process, mind you we got there at about 11:30 and didn't leave until 4:45! But that was not Kiras fault, it was the people at the Santa Rosa carmax taking their sweet time to fax over all my paper work and return for the crv. It was a very long process. Kira was super amazing though, staying on top of them. Her store manager actually had to call them and tell them to get going. They told me they were cleaning the car and getting it ready for me and also putting their bows they put on their cars, i was like really!? I said the other carmax didn't do that for me at all for the two cars i bought with them, they were so surprised and said" that's our signature to do all that to our cars" i said, "well they didn't do that for me"! They were so frustrated! So i finally got my bow :) After everything though, it was well worth the long waiting cause i got my dream car. Third times a charm I guess! IF SELLING TO CARMAX - Be advised, you need to check if your registration tags are on your plates. Online, it said in order to sell your car to Carmax, you needed to bring current & valid registration, the car title (with the seller named on it) & a valid ID. Easy - I had all 3!! But got to Carmax 10 mins before my appt time & after a 65 minute wait, was told by the associate (who'd already collected my title, registration card, key fob & ID thirty minutes earlier) "Hey - Do you have your registration stickers?" - unbeknownst to me, my current registration stickers must've been stolen from my plates!! They wouldn't let me sell my car to them until I had the stickers replaced, even with my valid registration documents in-hand. So just FYI to others - check your plates, make sure your tags are on there!! I wish Carmax had specified this on their website or given me a heads-up about it earlier upon arriving... it would've saved a lot of time, for both of us. read more

They made an offer that we accepted by 6pm and we were told they just need the manager to secure the car we could sign the paperwork. 4 hours later we were still waiting to sign the accepted offer. I called the out of state CarMax where I bought my vehicle, and this location followed up. They made good on my service issue. They even replaced a fog light bulb complimentary. One time and my last time for sure, I attempted to sell my car at the Pleasant Hill, Ca dealership. I was told when I called them, I could walk in and be put on a list for an appraisal of my car. I went in and that appraisal service was not available after waiting for over an hour. I was told to fill out a on line request for an appraisal of which I did while I was waiting. The amount was about 33% of what the car is selling retail and this amount was unacceptable. I asked if that appraisal offer would be more realistic if we make an appointment and they yes to make an appointment. 2 days latter I arrived for an appointment. 30 minutes after my appointment and filling another request for an appraisal a person asked us for the keys to make they wanted to take pictures. He returned about 20 minutes latter and said it would take approximately 45 minutes for the appraisal. 1 Hour and 15 minutes latter the same appraisal was given the same amount as was on the original . Their waiting room was home to me for a total of 3 and 1/2 hours. I cannot believe this company stays in business. read more

I also chose to purchase a BMW X3 the same day I returned the Audi. Again, seamless. I have sold and bought probably 20 cars in my life. The experiences with CarMax, Pleasanton were the best I have ever had. My first salesman for the Audi Q5 was and the salespeople for the return of the Audi and the purchase of the BMW were Richard Free and Iris, his associate. All three were exceptional in their professional and friendly, no-pressure manner. The finance person for the BMW purchase was Alfred and, again, he was professional, non-pressuring, and friendly. Hubby and I have been looking to test drive a Mazda for a while now. We were excited to see that the Carmax up the street from us had many on their lot. When we arrived we walked to receptionist area the gentleman that greeted us asked us what we came in for and we let them know we specifically wanted to test drive a Mazda CX-5 and Cx-9. We asked how long the wait would be and he mentioned it would be about 15 mins which seemed reasonable as there wasn't many folks on a Thursday afternoon. We waited 45 mins. When we finally got called the gentleman asked us what we wanted to do and we repeated we wanted to test drive a Cx-5. He mentioned all the cars on the lot were on hold.... why the hell would you not have told us that to begin with as we waited 45 mins for nothing. We then asked about the cx-9 again all the cars on the lot were on hold. We honestly stormed out pissed as they truly wasted our time. I'm honestly frustrated that this was the service and honestly I prolly won't be back... I'll go to the one in Livermore or find another spot to buy a car. There is a way to treat people and they have a lot of work to do to get my business. Just don't waste people's time... read more
