Sold my car more then I had expected. I was working with another dealer who dropped the purchase price because I came in on May 01 and all cars drop prices by 400.00 on the first of every month. Not true. I was pissed called car max offered me 1600 more and cash. They have now a customer for life great experience No game playing. Love the experience read more

I waited for almost 30 minutes and left without seeing any car. Horrible customer service. Most car sales people would die for your business. But not car max. They had interns who knew less than you do. They also told me that they will get a consultant but never put me on waiting list. Use autotrader!!!' read more

These guys used to be really good. However I've since bought two cars from them with major issues - one with a bad diff (that they repaired), airbags (that they won't repair), a trashed battery (they said was fine, and I had to replace nearly everything near it because it exploded), and a bad headlight, and one car they even said "shouldn't have been sold, because it didn't meet their standards" (mismatched misworn drive tires), no wiper fluid at *all*, low oil. We returned that one. The last time I had them change my oil, they didn't even fill it to the 'add' line. I'm done with them. I've had it. I will never go back, period. Their so-called warranty? How can I trust them to honor it when I can't even trust them to change the oil. My teenage son can change the oil. read more

Very pleased with our experience at Carmax in Gilbert Arizona. No pressure at all, and they held a car for us til end of business that day because we wanted to compare financing options. When we went back in that evening with our check all went very smoothly and quickly. We will definitely buy from Carmax again! read more

This place is GREAT!! We had a 10 year old beater car with pretty serious mechanical issues that we wanted to sell. CarMax gave us a GREAT price and the employees we interacted with were friendly and knowledgeable. It is obvious that people enjoy working there. read more

In a nutshell, CARMAX did everything they said they would. When I told them, I needed the vehicle sooner, than a week. they said, it would arrive in two days and it did?!! Wow... a car dealership that does what it says it will? .... Then when test driven the transmission was skipping, they said they would have BMW check it out and get back to me in two days and again, CARMAX did get back to me in two days and replaced the sensor. l was comparing two vehicles (one new) MINI Scottsdale and a used one from Carmax. I ended up buying from Carmax cause they did everything they said, they would and super nice on top of it. No "car salesman" type here. Highly reccommend! read more

Please if you value your money do not buy a car here. Their so call inspection of cars to give you the best quality is just words. Bought a car and three months later it needs 2900.00 worth of repairs and that's after them doing a repair for which I had to take it back twice to get it done right. They will probably say "well its a used car you should have bought the warranty for another 5000.00". If that's the case then don't advertise that you inspect your cars and get nothing but the best quality and fix them to get them up to par because in my case you did not. Needless to say I may not have any recourse but I will file a complaint with the attorney general. So for all of you out there reading this, don't say I didn't warn you. read more

I brought a Hyundai Genesis here. It was the easiest, and fastest car buying experience Ive ever had. The car was priced faily, and it was prepared nicely. I called them back that afternoon and did a credit app over the phone, and was approved in 10 minutes. We went in and signed the paperwork in about 15 minutes, and then did the car inspection and safety checks with the dealer. They put a bow on the car and took some pictures with us, and we were on our way. Thank you King you did an excellent job. read more

Today I sold my second car to CarMax. They gave me a bit more than KBB which I was happily surprised about. I worked with Ian and Twyler. They made the process very easy and smooth. I am very happy with their service and will certainly consider buying from them in the future. read more

Wow! This was honestly the best, easiest and most comfortable car-buying experience I have ever had!! Our son was ready to purchase a new vehicle and take on payments for the first time. We were actually on our way to another dealership to see something he had liked online, but were sidetracked when we saw all the cars in the Carmax lot. So we decided to look there first. My husband and I both let out a sigh when we realized the whole lot was gated and you actually had to go through the main building to access it. The dread of the "attack of the Salesman" overtook us, but we went in anyway. To our surprise, we were not trampled by hungry wolves, but instead greeted by a very sweet girl who asked if we had ever been there before. When we said "no" she explained how everything was set up on their lot, so we would know which section to focus on for what my son was looking for. She explained that each and every car was unlocked and we could open doors, and sit in them etc. Each car had a very clean and concise explanation of features on the window which also included the price and then estimates of what a potential payment was based on your downpayment. We were out there for quite some time, thoroughly enjoying the fact that we were not being pressured, hassled or harassed in any way. Our son ended up finding something he liked and that he felt he could afford monthly payments on. We then went inside and were introduced to our Salesman. His name escapes me at the moment, but if/when I remember, I will update it. He was great. We sat down to do the application, which was all online and took only a few minutes to complete. When terms were agreed upon and he said we needed to finish everything up at finance, I again, was anticipating a long drawn out process. I asked how long everything would take and his response was "About 20 minutes." Really? We are used to this taking hours!! He was not lying. We were in and out of there in no time. Then, when they pulled my son's truck up, they put a huge bow on it which made it seem extra special. Really satisfied with the whole experience from entry to exit. They couldn't have made it easier. I will follow up to say that his truck had two minor issues that we noted when purchasing. They told us to bring it in during the first 30 days and they would fix them for free... and they did!! 1st rate! read more

This was the first time ever doing business here, so after coming from another nearby dealership and having a horrible experience there, my husband and I were a bit apprehensive coming in. Immediately we were greeted by Ed, a sales rep who was very friendly and made us feel welcomed right away. We explained our situation and Ed made us feel comfortable and was very understanding. Halfway through, Ed had another prior appointment but recommended another sales rep to us, Brandon. Brandon truly impressed us with how knowledgeable he was and honest he was about the whole process. He provided several different options and did and outstanding time the entire time. He honestly made the whole process so painless, smooth, and easy for us. Brandon was extremely up-beat, patient, and friendly, even our children loved him! He truly makes you feel like you're home and his positive/happy personality is so infectious! Brandon helped guide my husband and I and we ended up making a purchase of a beautiful vehicle that we are so happy with. I highly recommend coming here and requesting either Ed or Brandon to help you. I will be sending my family members to these gentlemen in the future. Their customer service skills are outstanding, you will not be disappointed! read more

We made an appointment to get our car appraised. We went in at our scheduled time, it took 30 minutes and the process could not have been any easier. We took our appraisal and went and bought our new car at a dealer then went back the same day and sold Carmax our used car. When we went back it took about 20 minutes, we gave them the keys and they gave us a check! The appraisal was more than we even expected! Super easy process, great customer service! Thanks Carmax!! read more

When my husband and I got here, we were immediately surprised by the fact that we wern;t swarmed by sales people. We got to go into the building and we were greeted by Matthew. He was the best sales person we have ever delt with in any car buying experience either one of us has had and I used to work in car dealerships! Very friendly, professional and even held our new SUV for us for 2 weeks. He didn't try to pressure us into something we couldn't afford. He stayed within our price range and we got a better vehicle than we were expecting and we love our new Nissan Rogue. Thank you so much! read more

I HATE buying cars but they made it easy! I'll try to keep this brief: I bought a slightly preowned Honda Accord but didn't sell my old one here. I shopped on line, found it, shipped it, test drove it, and bought it. Here's the good: it came in hundreds $ under both KBB and Edmunds so no need to haggle. It was less than a week for shipping from LA to Phoenix. No surprises, no up-charges. The sales rep, Malia was courteous and helpful. The paperwork was easy, perhaps because of no financing. The only complaint is a rather large scratch on the door when they said no scratches were evident before shipping. Overall very satisfied and highly recommend them. Did I mention I HATE car buying? Well, maybe now it doesn't require Pepto Bismol. read more

Excellent buying experience. The no-haggle fair pricing and friendly sales associate, who takes you through the ENTIRE process, was extremely refreshing. I have bought new cars for years and years and decided to buy an almost new car for far less. After dealing with their process, and their VERY good financing, they have me as a customer for life. Not once did I get the Car Salesman BS "let me go talk to my manager" line from Chuck. I drove several vehicles before I finally made up my mind and he could not have been happier to park each and pull out another. After several test drives, financing, paperwork, detail and all, I was in and out in less than 2.5 hours with a GREAT car at an even better price. read more

Bought a car from CarMax a year ago and I've already had to put over a $1000 into that car replace all four tires over $600 new battery $189 replace the brakes 535.00 while car is still under warranty within the first year. Not sure if this is typical when buying a used car but they missed some other pretty basic/simple fixes that I caught in the beginning other than the above. Don't what kind of inspection they do before putting used cars on the lot. I feel they missed a lot on this car. read more

Found this Car Max dealership by accident. Went in and was greeted by Tim . He was friendly, helpful and NOT the pushy car salesman everyone hates . Had My car appraised. This is the third car my family has bought from CarMax. I like the car and feel that I got a good price, but it came with a hefty catch: after driving it for a few days the temporary air freshening methods they had employed wore off and now it absolutely STINKS of cigarette smoke. After being in the car for any amount of time, my body and my clothes smell like I just smoked a whole pack, and I don't smoke. I have a pregnant wife who is afraid to be in the car, which will soon translate to our newborn baby also not being in this car - when the whole point of buying this was to fit our growing family. I'm hundreds of dollars and many hours into various de-stinking methods and have thus far abated it somewhat, but as the fix currently is copious chemical treatments I fear it's going to be a long time before I would feel good about having a newborn baby in the car. I do like CarMax, but I feel I was deceived into buying this smokestack of a car, unfortunately. read more

I am a respected Business Man in the community and I expected the same professional service at CarMax in Gilbert. I was dealing with Anthony, I made an agreement over the phone before I drove the 40-mile tripe. I gave him my VIN # so he could do his diligence. We agreed on the numbers and I drove down to make the deal. My vehicle received a perfect inspection as I told him it would, their vehicle was also very nice, so the deal that we agreed upon should take place. They offered me $8000 less than the verbal agreement Anthony gave me. They are trained to lie and deceive you in any way they can to get you in the door. I will never ever do business with them again. What a waste of time that was for me. read more

I am completely blown away at the amazing customer service I received from Carmax. I'll start my saying that we don't have the best credit, due to falling on hard times a few years ago. I applied for a loan completely expecting to either get denied or get a ridiculous APR. Within the hour, I received a call from Elisa. She set my mind at ease and assured me I could get approved. She texted me every step of the way. At the last minute I decided to trade in my car, and got WAY more than we ever expected. All in all, we walked away with trading in our car for a lot more than we thought. We got a great deal on a practically new car and we were treated amazingly by Elisa. We were never pressured to buy anything we didn't want. Thank you Carmax and thank you Elisa! read more

This place is over priced and will not come down. The truck we looked at was 4000 over blue book.

I wish I would have known better.... :( I had a 2004 x-type jaguar in pretty good condition and a few issues. Aside from that, the car ran great, however I had to get rid of it asap because i was leaving the country. Took my car there and they literally offered me 700 dollars for it. What? KBB said it was minimum 3200 dollars. This place SUCKS!!! needless to say I sold it because I just couldn't afford the hastle of selling it through any other means. If I can change one persons mind out there, this post will be worth it. Dont go to carmax!! You'll probably get a better deal for a local neighborhood car dealer read more

Didn't end up buying a car here, but this dealership was by far one of the more pleasant experiences in our search! Staff was friendly and didn't pressure us for a sale. Very impressed at the selection and the fact that you can ship vehicles in from other parts of the country is a plus. We will definitely be back! read more

Bought a car here in November 2016. Paid cash. Picked up the car, the windows were dirty. They didn't even was the car. I then brought the car to my mechanic as I needed to drive it 900 miles that weekend. I was told by my mechanic (who I have used for 20 years) that the car needed new front brake pads as they were worn too low. I texted the woman who sold me the car. I was told I had to bring the car there in order for them to check it. Well I was at work and the car was already apart. When I inquired about the car inspection that they prefer on prior to selling, I was unable to see it. I will never buy a car from Car Max again. Usually I use AAA but they didn't have any available and I needed to get a car to my daughter in college in Colorado quickly. read more

Go elsewhere. On the initial call I told the salesguy I would be paying cash for the car and it would be registered to my daughter in CO (I'm in AZ). He told me that if the car were to be registered to someone else then their lending institutions required that person to be the first person on the loan. Hello? Did you not hear me? I will not be using your lending institutions. Okay, so there was a car I wanted to see. I made an appointment online for 11:30 the next day. I received a call asking if I could push it to 12:00. Sure, no problem. I should have brought this up before I went to the dealership: I will not purchase a car unless/until I take it to my mechanic for evaluation. Is that a problem? Oh no, they don't allow that. But what they do allow is to have you PURCHASE THE VEHICLE WITH A 5 DAY RETURN POLICY. I said that would not work for me. Okay, let me get my manager. The young lady looked at me earnestly and explained it is not their policy to allow customers to take cars off the lot without purchasing them. It is not my policy to buy a car from an outfit that operates that way. Good bye. read more

These guys found a way to go from a perfect five star yelp review to a one star review faster than any business I have ever seen. Today we sold Carmax our used Audi that we no longer needed. They gave us a fair price, the speed of the car buying process is astonishing. I walked out the door telling Rebecca the finance lady (who was fantastic as well) that next time I am in the car market, Carmax would be my first choice of dealers. This is the way car buying should be. I was about to publish my positive yelp review when I got a call from Rebecca letting me know she forgot to give my drivers license back before I left. At this point we had already hired an uber to take us to a restaurant in Tempe, about 20 minutes away from Carmax, and about a $30 uber fare. Rebecca did her best to get them to simply have a service driver bring me the ID, but corporate bureaucracy won in the end. Her supervisor refused to even admit fault in the matter and did not have the good sense to simply hop in his car to deliver it and solve the problem like any sensible businessman would do. So instead of trying to save a few minutes and a few bucks for the corporate bigwigs, he actually chose to refuse further business from me. I buy and sell cars like a drunken sailor at times. Saving less than $50 could easily end up costing them thousands in lost business from myself and potentially a boatload more if fellow yelp folk see the total lunacy of this situation. Update: when I arrived at the dealer to get my license, Henry came to his senses and offered to pick up the tab for our extra uber rides. You got your five stars back but I will not refrain from telling an accurate story for the sake of the review. Thanks again to Rebecca, she was fantastic. read more

Did not buy a car from CAR MAX today, but did sell them ours. Just a tip of the hat to two employees who were most courteous and helpful without seeming they were required to be nice. We met Kurtis in the sales dept who helped us get our car appraised. Very nice gentlemen and truly a good person to deal with. No pressure for us to do anything. A few days later we decided to go ahead with the sale and had the pleasure of dealing with Wendi in the business office. This person knows her job and is very proficient. Just truly two nice employees who seemed to really enjoy their jobs. How refreshing. Short version: No pressure, living up to their motto of "the way car buying should be." The whole thing, from appraisal through purchase, is very smooth although not necessarily quick. Long version: The first time I was at this Carmax, I got my car appraised to sell to them, but the dealership we were buying our new car from matched the written Carmax offer. This time I went in for another appraisal and worked with Ken T., who was friendly. When we explained there was nothing on the website we were interested in, he didn't insist and we talked about travel while my car was being appraised. This time, two different dealers would not come come close to matching Carmax's offer, so I was going to just sell the car to Carmax. But before going in for my check, I went on the website and ended up finding a car at another location that I was interested in. I returned to Carmax, and again with no pressure Ken explained the transfer process. Prior to committing to a non-refundable transfer cost, you can request a walkaround by someone at the other location and ask questions electronically. I recommend specific questions, such as odors, tire tread, and any options that are must-have: I'd hate to pay to get a car delivered only to find out the website was wrong about something. This 'walkaround' process does take about 30 minutes, just so you know. Car transfers do not obligate you to buy the car, but you pay that transfer fee either way! I think it would be better if someone who transfers a car and then buys it got a 50% refund of that cost. The worst part of the transfer is that they are slower than I expected. Carmax quotes as much as 28 days for a transfer, depending on where the car is coming from! They ended up being a week ahead of schedule, but you can't expect that since they contract out the shipping to the lowest bidder. The car arrived as photographed on the website and as promised, so I agreed to buy. They re-appraised my car, and it came back $500 less than before but they did match their first appraisal when I pointed out that if the car was on the local lot I would have been within the 7-day quote period. So if you are going to get a car from elsewhere, still get your car appraised on your first visit! Unlike other dealers, they only offer two things: Financing, and extended warranties. The latter are only good at Carmax so I'd stay far away (Costco and even manufacturers sell more flexible more inclusive warranties), and when I told him I had prearranged financing, Ken said "OK" and moved on. No push, no counter offers, no "well the price changes without a financing incentive", just "OK". I love it! The paperwork takes a reasonable (but not quick) amount of time, with no more sales pitches for clear coat, nitrogen, tint, etc... Just sign and drive. read more

WORST CARMAX EVER! Everyone was either rude, or doesn't know how to do their job.
