I'm surprised how many positive reviews CarMax is given, especially since their customer service sucks. I went in looking at a 2008 Kia Spectra, and was very dissatisfied with the sales rep who was assigned to me, Anthony. I made the mistake of showing up late in the day, and asking for a test drive. It was the only car I was interested in, and I only took about 15 minutes of Anthony's time. He was elitest and rude the whole time. I wrote an email to the managers of CarMax Burbank, and Anthony wrote the following response: "I did not choose to take you on a demo. I was going home, and the last thing I wanted, was to be (against my better judgement) going on a demo at closing time, staying late with a customer who is not mine and not buying a car from me. I am told that a person is a real professional when they can predict a persons behavior. I was right in my judgement call, that you would not purchase a car from us. Nothing personal, I am here for business and only get paid when I sell a product. I am sorry if that was obvious." WHO WOULD BUY A CAR FROM THEM AFTER THAT? I ended up going down the street to Glendale Kia where I got a SPECTACULAR deal on a 2010 Kia Forte. I would never recommend CarMax Burbank to my friends... not only will you get screwed on the "bargain" of a car, their sales staff will treat you @$#! too. read more

Went into Burbank Carmax to get a quote on my vehicle and they absolutely low balled me. They currently had a model vehicle same as mine but with the bare minimum options and 10,000 more miles priced at 18,000. My vehicle has clean title, never been in an accident, condition is 9.8/10, every extra option possible & 10,000 less miles and they offered me 13,000. I was taken back by this ridiculous offer. read more

So far not impressed the people who entered behind were greeted and helped I continue to stand here ignored while they talk to each other. Overall my friend and I were not impressed we were both looking for cars and we were basically ignored the whole time. Side note we each bought a car that weekend but neither were from carmax...so that's two sales they lost simply from not greeting me. read more

First, I cannot say enough good things about Jonathan (JonJon?), JoeAnthony and Kumar. The three of them were extremely helpful and super pleasant to work with. I've definitely run into some issues, though not their fault. It was bad timing that taxes went up on Oct 1, and in turn the cost of the vehicle I was buying. However Kumar and JoeAnthony worked with me to find the best solution and I'm overall satisfied with the resulting outcome. After trading in my car, I'm picking up my new to me car today. Very much looking forward to it and crossing my fingers there's no issue. read more

This place is a horrible scam that does nothing but waist your time! I went today and waited 40 minute to get their offer price on my car. When I accepted their offer and tried to move forward on the deal, I was told the purchasing department was no longer purchasing cars! They were not even scheduled to close for another hour! Unbelievably angry and pissed off! What a total waist of time! read more

Carmax is a necessary evil when it comes to selling a used car. They almost always pay at least $1,000 over what any dealer will offer you, so most of the time you end up dealing with their nonsense. I don't understand people that buy cars here, they're all overpriced and their claim to fame is no haggling. So I suppose if you're really so spineless that haggling makes you nauseous then this is definitely the place to buy your used car, otherwise, go anywhere else. Here's some advice to make it more bearable, imagine you're going to the DMV. Eat first, bring snacks and drinks, bring a book or cell phone charger, something to keep you amused. Bring a sweater if you tend to get cold... you WILL be here awhile sitting in their large, loud, lobby in an uncomfortable chair in front of a dirty table with a computer atop it that is half your age. Don't make any other plans for the day. It takes forever to get an estimate on your car, which is then good for ten days. It takes forever to sell your car to them... and I HIGHLY recommend checking your title/registration BEFORE going to sell, as they DONT. They will let you wait to appraise your car, give you an offer, and then let you wait to sell your car, only to tell you that after all that waiting there is an issue with your title. It's ridiculous to me that they wouldn't check this immediately before even appraising the vehicle. For us it was a small issue, the DMV was claiming that we didn't have insurance on the car because our insurance originated from an out of state insurer so it wasn't automatically displaying in their database, and they were refusing to purchase the car because of that. It was outrageous and I had to make a scene to get them to buy it, which they eventually did. No one is going to make me wait at Carmax for almost three hours with an infant during her missed nap time to then tell me they're not going to buy my car. Absolutely not! read more

I walked in for the first time wanting to possibly trade in my car and buy a new one... Walked up to a guy on his cell phone not assisting anyone and asked him a few questions and he said I am waiting for an appointment I cant help you. I asked him if he could kindly direct me to the right department and he said anyone you see available can help you. The guy was a tool and not helpful at all. He belongs working in a zoo. Looked like Mr. Bean. His name is Jack. Worst experiance. Carmax will not get my business. read more

Buyers Beware!!! Do NOT buy a car from Carmax. They sold me a lemon and refused to make it right! I bought a car from them for $12k (I put $5k cash down and financed $7k) and 3 months later the transmission went out! They refused to fix it or even buy it back for what I still owed on it! They said they could only help me get another car if I put down another $3,500! They promise to stand by "each and every one of their high quality cars" and "provide excellent customer service"......I am a single mom with 4 kids and am stuck with a car that won't run after ONLY THREE MONTHS and $12k!!! read more

Not real happy with this place....I made an appointment to have my car appraised for a possible Carmax purchase. The Burbank store is the closest one so I made an appointment online and shortly after received a call from the person I was to meet with. I show up on time and am told they will call me in a bit on my cell phone, so GF and I have a look around the facility (which is nice, clean and well stocked, reason for 2 stars). I get the cal about 10 minutes later and meet with another employee who says he will be the one taking care of me...Ok he enters all my info and then tells me theres 18 people ahead of me! HELLO I made an appointment and drove 40 minutes to get there but hey he says it will only be a couple of hours! I tell him I will come back after an hour and he tells me I cant leave. Needless to say I told him lets forget it and left...What a waste of time. read more

This dealership is pretty good for both selling and buying cars, i tried to sell my car there once the only problem was they really didn't offer me what the Kelly Blue Book said my car was worth they were offering me less. I understand they are trying to make a profit but i was going to also be losing money so i didn't end up selling my car to them or getting a new one from their dealership. I am only giving them 3-Stars because they did have a pretty decent inventory of cars to chose from and i was offered a good deal on a car to buy but i just turned it down due to the terms of my trade in vehicle. read more

A few weeks ago my son and I bought a 2016 Hyundai Sonata at CarMax of Southlake on Mt. Zion Road in Stockbridge GA. Our sales agent was an older gentleman named Jim Lowe. What a nice guy. Low key. Not pushy. So very patient. He was very knowledgeable about the various cars my son wanted to look at and understood what features he needed on the car. He never rushed us to get on to the next customer and was always willing to answer all our questions. (And he even knew the answers and didn't have to go ask someone.) These are attributes that you don't always find with used car salesmen. But Jim was different. CarMax is different. Such a large selection of cars that we found and with low or mid or high mileage. The financial process was painless as well. We went outside to go get his car and found it all washed and cleaned inside. It even had a full tank of gas and a HUGE yellow bow across the hood. Such a nice way to send off the customer. I highly recommend CarMax for your next car buying experience. Also, ask for Jim. read more

First of all, this location is large enough to handle massive crowds, which I ABSOLUTELY appreciate. Secondly, they were staffed with enough employees to handle a large amount of people, and I feel that under-staffing is one of the major problems with a lot of businesses. My wife and I wanted to sell my car to pay for our move across the country, so we came to Carmax to get a quote for my 2002 Honda Civic LX. There was plenty of parking, and when we walked into the showroom we were greeted immediately by the receptionist. Immediately following that, we were greeted by one of the salesmen on the floor named Carlos who was wonderful! We sat down in his cubical, he explained the appraisal process and what the appraisers look for to determine value, and that was it. Clear and simple. He said the appraisal shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, and it ended up only taking 15. The great thing about that is that Carlos under-promised, and over-delivered (if you've ever worked in the customer service industry, that's a pretty HUGE deal). There was no pressure to trade my car in for another, and my wife and I were able to walk around the outdoor showroom without hassle. I think we even found a car that we're interested in purchasing from Carmax eventually! Once Carlos called us back inside, we sat back down in the cubical and were showed what the appraisers were willing to offer for the car. The figure that they came up with, for my car's current condition (well maintained as they put it), matched the Kelly Blue Book exactly, at $3200. It was clearly explained that the offer was good for seven days, and if we had any questions, we were free to contact Carlos directly at the number on his business card. This was just a fantastic example of good business, and even better customer service. I think some people giving negative comments, simply "think" that their car is worth more than it actually is. I understand that your car means EVERYTHING to you, but the bottom line is, it's only worth what it's worth. Deal with it. My wife and I left there with all the confidence in the world. Unfortunately, we did not sell the car to Carmax, because we had a very deserving friend who wanted to purchase the car and offered the same amount that Carmax offered. Had our friend not wanted to purchase the car, we would have sold it to Carmax in a heart beat. Thank you SO MUCH for your excellence. I will be visiting a Carmax when I am ready to purchase my next vehicle. read more

First, I do love the car I bought here. I got a 2006 PT Cruiser, my dream car, and I'm very happy with that. However, the customer service truly sucks. When I brought my car in, they low-balled me on the trade-in value, but, since I really needed a car, I accepted it. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at the service as far as getting approved for financing after nine months being laid off and less than perfect credit because of it was concerned, even though I felt a little condescension from the salesman, Armen. I had cleaned out my car before going to the dealership, but at the last minute had forgotten to take out my gate remote, which I had needed that morning to leave my house. As soon as I realized that it was still in the Mazda, I texted Armen, who said he would check the car and send the remote to me immediately. I alerted Armen that my remote was still in my car less than 12 hours after I had left my Mazda at the dealership. He said the car was still there, and that he would check it and get the remote for me. Several days later, when I hadn't received it, I again contacted Armen, and he assured me that the remote was there, and that he would get it to me. A month later, after numerous texts and calls, I finally got in touch with another salesman, Frank, who found what he thought was my remote, and he mailed it to me immediately. It was not my remote. In one of the numerous texts I exchanged with Armen, he told me that the remote was being held in my name at the front desk. So, I schlepped down to Burbank from West Hills to return the wrong one and, I hoped, get my own remote back. There was nothing for me at the front desk, and I was told to go back to the business office where they had "a big box of them." I went back there, explained the situation yet again, and they didn't have anything either. So, they called Armen to come back, and told me that he said he was holding it for me personally. He came back with - get this - the same remote that had been mailed to me! I told him I had just returned that one, since it was not mine, and he said, "Well, that's all they found." They didn't find it in MY car! Then he had the nerve to say to me, "They sell them at Home Depot. They're only $20-30 dollars." I was livid, and I still am. I realize that it was my mistake to forget the remote in the Mazda, but I alerted them immediately and was told numerous times that Armen first, would check my car personally, and then that he had the remote. And now I am supposed to spend money I don't have to replace something that they didn't care to retrieve for me. Worst of all was the callous attitude with which I was treated. Not once did anyone say they were sorry for the mess. Not once did anyone offer to replace it at their cost. Once they have moved a car off their lot, they could not possibly care less about their customers. I did not buy their extended warranty. I would not ever take my car to them for anything. I will never buy from that store again. The Carmax system in general is easy and worthwhile, but this particular store is horrible. read more

Terrible experience at the branch. Applied for a loan via Internet and was approved. Found a car and had it shipped. Salesperson was Cassandra. Took about 5 days to get to burbank. We went in 2 days later. Was late for our appointment because my wife was getting sick. First impression, there was no parking. Second, we saw the car in the covered parking and it was filthy! Cassandra could've taken the time to have it detailed, instead, she presented us with a filthy ride. We walked in to the showroom and it was a madhouse. I waited in line at their counter and had my wife and kids go outside to avoid the chaos. Not one person said hello, they eyeballed me, but didn't say hello...Weird. When I got to the counter Cassandra happened to be standing behind the girl that was helping me and without her even looking at me she said "I know, I know!" Cassandra comes around the counter after a minute or two and introduces herself, rushed, talking a mile a minute and telling me to grab a table before someone else does. At this point I'm thinking, where the hell am I! Stop the Insanity!!! Cassandra takes another client out for a test drive and keeps repeating that since we were late she is having to "juggle" the both of us. As I am waiting I went back up to the counter and spoke with the "white" shirt guy, (They all wear blue shirts but there are a couple in white which probably meant middle management? Or maybe the head klansmen) I proceeded to ask if they could get a quick wash on the car so we could test drive it in a presentable manner. Numbnuts then asks,"Is the car so dirty that you can't see out the windshield?" I felt my face heating up and I had to control myself! The nerve of this douche! I told him that I would like the vehicle to be presentable for my wife... White shirt tells me he will let Cassandra know. I sat down and when she finally came back, she started the process and repeated again, "because you were late"... I repeated to her that my wife wasnt feeling well. I called my wife wife over and Cassandra says, with a weird boisterous tone, "So your sick!" Im thinking, if my family didn't want this car I would've been out this freakin place the minute I got here! She then says" If we tried to have it washed it would take like 2 hours. Otherwise I would have to wash it which would take longer, about an hour for me to wash it and dry it(wow, that's the slowest I've ever heard). But they will wash it if you decide to buy the car... ??? So, basically, I get a free car wash with a $20k purchase? That's one expensive car wash!!!! After that it just went downhill from there. Car Max feels like a mall that has a used dealership inside. Very off putting. They needed my original pay stubs and not copies to make the purchase which was probably a sign from God saying"Run for the Hills!" Needless to say we didn't buy the car from car max. We bought a really nice Ford Edge from another dealer in our area. And remember "Runs for the Hills!!!!'" Don't buy from car max!!!!! read more

I'm rating this company specifically for their service, not on the quote I was given for my car. I was assisted by 2 employees, 1 senior rep and another 1 in training. The senior rep was extremely unprofessional, impolite, and rude. He had a sarcastic response for every single question I had. I don't mind a little humor but when we're discussing large finances, he should have been a bit more serious. read more

I'm throwing in an emotional based star. Only because I love my car, I love how we got it, and I love that we got it when we got it. So, yes mostly good. But the bad is bad enough to dock a couple of stars. But l won't. So, starting with the good, we needed a new car or so we thought. Ours was stolen at one of the most inopportune times possible, on the eve of my expected due date. Yes, I was 9 months preggo and our only family car was gone. Was it coming back? Didn't know. Didn't care. We needed a car that hadn't been defiled by thugs and their shenannigans to transport our precious cargo to and fro. Carmax came through big time!! My husband found a few cars on their website. One on the Burbank lot and one similar to our car on a different lot that they were willing to have sent up so we could test drive it. How cool is that? It wasn't necessary, but pretty awesome customer service in that respect. Turns out, I loved the SUV they had right there in Burbank. We both did. I have to say, I've never had an easier time shopping for anything! It was too easy. We forced ourselves to look at other cars but, it was silly. We both know we wanted THAT one. It was the first car we saw. The way their website works takes all guesswork out if the equation. Everything on our list, this car had. We knew the cost, we knew how it looked, we knew its history, no surprises. All we had to do was get down there, see it and test drive it. Their no haggle, straight up, full disclosure policy is so refreshing. I've had more trouble and confusion at the local farmers markets trying to get beets and lettuce. Seriously, easiest purchase ever!! We spent a little more and went for the maximum warranty package they offer. We've needed to use is a couple of times for tires. All simple. It's a 6year plan. Totally worth it as far as I am concerned. Now, for the bad. My husband made our appointment over the phone and we were told to come on in. We waited for a short while and met with a salesman. He was great. We loved him. He did a great job showing us around the lot and all about our future car, test drove it with us, started our paperwork and we were well into the process. Suddenly, they pulled an awkward switch-a-roo and had a new salesman "take over" or "help us out" as they put it. Well, we had to go back over a ton of information and a LOT of time was wasted. As it turned out, when my husband made our appointment, we were supposed to ask for a particular guy, Derek, I think. We didn't. So what? We were happy and into the process and they didn't catch that, so why should we be forced to do all that work again just so he could get his commission? He didn't show us the car, he didn't, give us the tour, he didn't "sell" us anything! The other dude did. Dude #1. He deserved the commission, not this new guy. It was totally tacky, uncomfortable and weird. This guy wasn't even working that day. He happened to stop in when they realized it was somehow "his" sale. They should never let a customer see that nonsense. Totally unprofessional! We could tell guy #1 was bummed, but he did a good job telling us how guy #2 was great and would get us going, etc. Whatever! Guy #2 was greedy and cared more about his comission than customers. Plain and simple. May I remind you that I was seriously preggo and didn't need to be sitting around there for an extra hour and a half. Guy #2 didn't care. He didn't (insert honey badger joke here)! Furthermore, we had a loan for the car ready to go in my husbands name when we got there. And guy #1 totally understood this as we went over it in great detail. Yet somehow, my name and all of my information got added to the application and suddenly I had multiple dings on my credit reports. We ended up having to make another trip down there to sign another paper correcting it all. My credit score didn't get fixed though. :/ Get it together sales crew!!! CarMax wonderful, sales crew, not so wonderful. read more

After a fun day of motorcycle riding, an amazing morning at the 94th Aero squadron we stopped at Carmax looking for a replacement car. The five of us were ignored, cash was not of value. Really!!!! Who doesn't like a stack of dead presidents...I'm just saying cash rocks. Not one person said hello, including the sales lady on the lot who was trying to sell a Volvo SUV. To say this is a disappointment is to say that is to say that Colonel Sanders is in the health food business. Suffice to say this place gets an emphatic and passionate, NO! read more

I do not recommend CarMax. They are dishonest. I bought a used car, a Mercedes, from CarMax. The salesman, Rafael Cabrera, did not point out a "star chip" in the windshield. He just wanted to make a sale. To cover himself, he scribbled "star chip" illegibly on one of many sheets of paper. I learned that a star chip is the bullet hole-like defect from a stone. It can be dangerous because the whole windshield will shatter if hit by another object according to manager of a Mercedes service center. When I went back to them for a new windshield, the service manager Joe Allen and the sales manager Yammir Carbonell basically said: tough luck. They said they would fix it for $250. I said: "I guess I'll see you in small claims court then". I think the salesman was shady and their refusal to fix the problem was stubborn and shifty. Don't buy a car at CarMax. read more

One star for being promised an adequate time frame of 30min for appraisal and 30min for the sale. Even though I made an appointment the lazy staff who don't communicate with each other let my file somehow slip to a pile of files that were missing info when mine was complete. My appointment started at 10am and my file is still sitting there two hours later. Never coming back. Don't waste your time. read more

My daughter and I were looking for a used car. She did a lot of online research, and lined up some good possibilities at the Burbank Carmax. We went first thing in the morning, were met at the door, the salesman was friendly and personable, and we found the car of her dreams pretty quickly. We filled out all of the paperwork, got our credit checked, etc. My desire was to put down a down payment of $3,000, and finance the remaining $10,000. They said that was acceptable, but I said I wanted to check with my bank before purchase to see what kind of loan they would offer. Could I get back to them within 24 hours? They said that was fine. Since they're in the car selling business and not the car holding business, I offered to put down a deposit and they could keep the car overnight while I checked with my bank. They refused the deposit, but agreed to hang on to it while I looked. Everyone was fine with it. That afternoon, I checked with my bank, and their loan wasn't that much different than what CarMax was offering, so I was still deciding. At about 3 that afternoon, CarMax called my daughter and said they were going to release the car for sale unless we bought it immediately. And that meant at that moment. She called me in a panic, and I spent the rest of the afternoon on the phone with CarMax, bouncing between the salesman and his supervisor who were contradicting each other -- when I would come to an agreement with the salesman, his supervisor would call me separately and reject it. Finally, she (the supervisor) said she would release the car for sale at the end of the day unless I came in before closing with the full amount. The fact that the banks were closing, and that I was taking care of my two other children that afternoon (one in a wheelchair and one with Down syndrome) and couldn't budge didn't move her a bit. I finally said that I would be in first thing in the morning with the full amount, drawn from our life savings (a withdrawal I was not intending to make AT THAT MOMENT). The next morning I withdrew the full amount for the car from our life savings in a cashier's check and Uber'd to Carmax (with my Down syndrome daughter in tow). Left with our brand new used car, after their admonishment that I had to pick it up that day or they'd start charging storage fees (!) We've since had another dustup involving the title and pink slip that hasn't been resolved yet. Let me just say that -- up until the late afternoon phone call -- we were very happy with our CarMax experience and wouldn't have minded going to them again for future used car purchases. But after that experience, i will never patronize them again. Instead of a repeat happy customer, they got a one-time customer with a bad taste in his mouth. But they got our money, which I guess was the primary goal for them. But they could have gotten their money and had a satisfied customer, instead of one who just wanted to get away from them. read more

So here's the deal with Carmax, come in and wait about an hour (even with an appointment) to get your car appraised. Once it's done, the sales guy will go through his pitch and then they'll completely low ball you and since its a no-haggle price you can't negotiate with them (the sales guy's make a commission on the cars they buy too). Now go take a walk around the lot. See that nice shiny SUV...go take a look at the sticker and assuming you've done your research, you'll realize that the car is way overpriced. However, here again this is their "no-haggle" price, so you can't negotiate with them. I actually went in here and looked at a Jeep Wrangler that was 2 years old with about 30k miles on it and their price was more than what I ended up buying my NEW Wrangler with the same options for. Look, if you don't want to do your research when buying a car and shop around, then Carmax is your place. Otherwise, go and get a printed appraisal from them on your used car and use it as a starting point when you negotiate your deal from another car dealer. read more

CarMax - Used Car Dealers Near Me - Burbank, California

DON'T SELL YOUR CAR THERE!! or for that matter don't buy one there either. My lease was up on a Honda civic coupe. the car had only 17000 miles on it and was in excellent condition. the buy out was $11,100 after being told repeatedly by CarMax how desirable the car was. I looked and saw that CarMax sells the same car with higher mileage for between $15,000 and $16,000. so I figure, why not just sell it to them and if I could make between $500 and $1,500 off the deal, why not! I take the car in and I am told again "this is a very desirable car!" after the 45 minutes it takes to appraise the car. they come back with their "No haggle" offer $11,000! A $100 dollars under the lease buy out! This place is a car mill. the people you deal with are not qualified to make deals. they just type in the info and wait for the Greedy Wizard of Oz in the back room to tell them what the offer is. Car Max is a complete SCAM! DON"T do business with them. educate yourself on car values and then find a reputable dealer and negotiate with the knowledge you have. read more

I just bought a car here and have no problem with the car or the salesman (Mike Atikian). Although my husband did all the work on line finding the car we wanted, Mike was a friendly, helpful salesman. Those are probably the most important things but I was very unhappy with the rest of the process. The offer they gave to buy our car was so low, we kept our car. This has happened at least twice. Much lower than the KBB value for dealers. The time it took to purchase our new car was literally hours. We went for food after the start and still had to wait after we got back. They charged us the DMV fees, which was fine, but then a few weeks later, I got a bill from the DMV for the same amount. I called Carmax and they told me they tried to pay the DMV, but it wouldn't go through. Why didn't they call to tell me this? I certainly got enough junk email about giving them reviews. Why didn't they take the time to let me know about this money I have to pay? They did send back part of what they charged me for the DMV fees after a couple months. We did not purchase their warrantee this time. On a previous purchase from them, every time we tried to use the warrantee, they had some reason why they wouldn't cover the fix. Once it was because they part that was bad "didn't fail all the time, only part of the time." Isn't that a failing part? In summary, I get that I'm complaining about small things, but those small things have added up and really started ticking me off. read more

We had a wonderful experience buying my first car in CarMax the salesperson was really friendly and knowledgeable.

Sadly, I just sold my car... ...however, I at least sold my car to CarMax who made the process pleasant, very quick and easy. I came in, and they gave me a appraisal for my car, and with an offer that was higher than I expected - their appraisal only took 15 minutes. I decided though to sleep on it, so I came back a few days later. I walked in and the process of paper signing and verification, that I'm the legitimate owner, only took 30 minutes. I walked out with a check in my hand - Quick, painless, and easy. I potentially could have sold my car for $500-1000 more than what CarMax gave me, but is the time and effort involved in a private sale really worth it? Not for me, so CarMax has my business in the future. read more

Today was my LAST visit to Carmax, and the FIRST place I will steer people away from! Brought in a BMW 750 series luxury sedan to get their appraisal for sale, after doing a great deal of research, the market seemed to be $15-17,000 range. The salesman we worked with was very nice, and did a great job of submitting info to the appraiser He noted the exceptional condition, ran all the luxury options and CARFAX on the car which checked out perfectly, only one previous owner, and after 45 minutes was offered $6,000! We thought there had been some mistake, but the appraiser said it was because of gas prices and "the current economy". He got the CON part right. They must get away with those tactics on many people, since they were so busy. NEVER Again. read more

Great selection of cars. However, they do a 125 point check on their cars and it is not thorough! We had 4 things wrong with our car as we checked it before we even bought it! They assured us it would be taken care of upon purchase. Really basic problems that their technicians overlooked. They do not do a good job making sure their cars are in good selling condition. Check your car if you're purchasing through CarMax. read more

Is there anything less than one star? I made an appt online and received a follow up phone call confirming the appointment with Armand. When I arrived others without appointments were taken before me. Armand was "busy" and turned me over to Bryant. I had clearly told Armand that I had very limited time and would need to be in and out quickly. That is not how their system works. An appointment is useless. After waiting for a half hour I told Bryant I needed to talk to a manager. Scott appeared and was not helpful either. He also told me that an appointment means nothing. So, I said I needed to leave. I was given my keys and returned to my car. I noticed my seat had been adjusted so I went back in to see if my car had been appraised. It had. But no one told me or gave me the appraisal. They just gave me back my keys. read more

Carmax does not offer competitive appraisals for your car. My Jaguar X-Type 2002 is in fair condition and only has 50 thousand miles. Carmax offered me $2,000. This is a small fraction of its current value on KBB and AutoTrader. Miller Nissan of Van Nuys appraised my car for almost double Carmax's appraisal. I expected Carmax to be more competitive with appraisals to keep its customers. Instead it seems to be counting on the fact that people are too busy to take the extra time to check other car buyers or the fact that some people might need the money. Do not get cheated out of your hard earned money. Take your time looking into who would pay the most for your car before you settle for Carmax. read more

My husband brought his car here for service. A car that he considers part of the family. It was sent to a third party to get fixed and when he got it back there was a scratch on the door. The fact that he could tell you there was a new scratch on the car tells you how much he loves it. He was told that he could bring it back and they would buff the whole car to correct the problem. Sounds perfect. Except for the fact that when he picked it up the top was down and 35 miles had been put on the odometer. Why would 35 miles need to be driven for a car to be buffed. It wasn't like it needed to be test driven to make sure it was running properly. Mind you, the first time it was brought in for mechanical problems they only drove it for 5 miles. I understand that for most this doesn't seem like a big issue, but my husband doesn't work hard for what he has to have someone joy ride in his car instead of working on it. Carmax Burbank is responsible for this. They might not have done the work on the vehicle but they contract with these companies. Maybe they need to re-evaluate what is important to their customer service. I know we won't be bringing our car back again; or buy another vehicle from them again. read more

I called and wanted to sell my car Saturday the 26th of sept. The kid who answered the phone said they will only buy a car if I will buy a car from there. Was a lie. Went to CM LAX and Jay helped me and was great. This Carmax in Burbank sucks read more

This will be short and sour. I have purchased 2 vehicles from carmax and while the buying process is somewhat easier than a traditional dealership, the SERVICE gets negative reviews 0 stars if it was possible. When you a buy a new car an extended warranty is always a smart choice BUT good luck getting an appointment. Over a 4 year span of trying to obtain appointments service is ALWAYS 2 weeks booked out, and you can't even drop off or walk in. They always give the same crap excuse "oh were just busy lately" YOU ARE ALWAYS BUSY!!!!!!!!! I called 3 locations Burbank, Duarte, and LAX all of them were 2+ weeks out for service. So what do you have to do? If you buy maxcare which is Carmax's warranty bit, the most common one is a $50 deductible if you go to a dealer (toyota, honda, chevy etc) but if you take it to Carmax no deductible BUT HOW DO YOU EVEN GET INTO CARMAX for service if you are having a problem with your car? So BUYING EXPERIENCE 3 STARS: (nothing too special) SERVICE EXPERIENCE: NEGATIVE -5 STARS! And don't bother asking for a service manager he is always "in a meeting" read more

I was recommended by my friend saying Carmax was the place to go so I ended up there buying a 2012 Nissan Leaf. Before I signed all the paper, my salesman craig was busy with other clients so he sent someone else to show me the car while it was being washed. I asked them to show me how to charge my car since it is full electric. The man said that oh it was so easy, you just take the charger and plug it to the wall. and then you would see blue light flash on top of the dashboard. My car was only 40% charged when I left the place. So the next day I tried to charge my car at home and blue light didn't flash when I plugged the charger on to the wall. I called craig and said could someone show me how to do it at the store. he told me to call the service team and their answer was you have to wait for a week to bring the car in for a service check! But I just bought the car! Craig told me that "you were not understanding me, it is not sale problem, it is the service issue and I have no control over, let me talk to the manager at the service team"... So he called me back the next day saying did you check to see if the power plug is 20w instead of 15W? if it is 15W it won't work. OK. but then I read leaf manual and on the manual it said it must be 15W. so where did he get this information from. So my charger only shows the ready red light but not the charge light. In the past 10 days I had to only charge my car at charger point and it caused so much trouble in my life. I really think this should be part of the sale when you bought a car, you must show them how to charge it in person. And make sure the charger was working. Also when Craig asked me do you want carmax service package, he didn't mention the service department only accept appointment between 8-10 mon-fri. For a full time working mom, it is really impossible to go there during the week. I think the package is like 1200USD, but if they are not only during the weekend, it is really not worth buying. read more

I expect to get a lowball trade, but I came here based on the claim of efficiency. Don't believe it. Appraisal average (on a weekday): 50 minutes. Wait time for paperwork: 2 hours. So what you get is pretty much DMV experience with families packed in a tight uncomfortable waiting room. I'm pretty cynical about the car buying/selling process and this place did nothing but reinforce it. This is a place of desperation. read more

I made an appointment to get my car appraised with Armen. When I arrived, he was busy with another customer. I sat in a chair to wait. I was approached by another employee and told that I was the second person in line to be helped and it should be about 15 minutes. I sat in the same spot for 40 minutes. Then I left. read more
