A solid place to eat in South Phoenix. I had the menudo and cafe de olla. The menudo was pretty good, not as much flavor as I expected but really good. The staff was very sweet and attentive. The cafe de olla was SO CUTE! It came with a concha on top and the cafe was sooooo good, the best I've had. It was perfectly sweet and very cinnamon-y (which I personally love). Was excited to give this restaurant a try since it was near my house & all over my tik tok. We didn't even have an opportunity to eat. The restaurant had about 8 tables open & not busy, but it took 15min to be seated. Most tables already had their plates. Once seated we sat there another 20min without being acknowledged or asked for our drink order. Based on the sole service I am disappointed & discouraged to even return. Loved the carne asada here! I ordered the carne asada quesadilla and it was to die for--the mozzarella cheese they use is perfect and the meat is juicy and flavorful. I recognize that this restaurant is still kind of new but they've got a ways to go if they want customers to return and rave about their establishment. When we first arrived, it wasn't too busy. The available tables were all dirty. We waited our turn at the counter to order but we were delayed by the amount of customers coming up saying there were missing items from their ticket (missing a dish from the food that was already brought to the table or missing a beer, etc). I had to clean the table off that we sat at. We waited around 45 minutes for our food. While waiting, the tables next to us (2 total - 2 different families) had received their food and both tables had missing plates or wrong plate orders. I saw both of these tables have their family members wait quite a bit of time to eat their food as they were trying not to be rude and eat while waiting for the missing or correct plates (3 missing or wrong plate orders collectively between the two tables). They waited like 15 minutes for the food to come. Meanwhile the rest of their family had no choice than to eat it was taking so long. My husband got his food first. About 3 minutes later my mother in law's dish came out. Another 3 minutes and mine came out. 7 minutes passed and we were missing a dish. It took maybe 10 total minutes for my nephew to get his dish. My husband's chilaquiles divorciados were good but cold. My dish was cold. Not sure about the rest. My dish was about $16 but looked underwhelming with a little bit of rice and enough beans. My husbands was packed full. Serve your beans and rice last before putting it up on the expo. Keep the sides warmer. Not sure what kind of setting you have for those. Improve the rice recipe. Consider using a large rice cooker and making it white rice but flavorful using chicken stock to cook in and adding veggies. It will ensure your rice stays warm and you'll just scoop it on the plate and serve right away. The beans can be kept in a food warmer or use something you can plug in and keep on warm. To make your plates look fuller or worth the price, consider using a salad (iceberg lettuce, cucumber slices, rábano slices) to fill up some space making the plate more full and worth the $$$. Look, your restaurant has potential. I don't say these things to tear it down rather please take this feedback and improve. Maybe it was an off day for them. read more

I really wanted to give this place two stars because I was so miffed about spending $40 on "nachos" and 2 tacos... again remember, they were legit just meat and chips with melted velveeta cheese and then meat on two flour tortillas. Maybe this place is better to sit and eat. Idk! But the steak was super good. So three stars which is pretty fair. But I'm still salty about the price vs what we got. Pros: So first off I'll say the service was really good. The young women who were working the counter were very helpful when ordering, told me what was popular and answered any questions I had. The restaurant was also well decorated. The meat was good. Very fresh, as I could see the cook grilling outside in the front of the restaurant. The birria was quite good, chicken had tender big chunks, asada was also good. The salsas in the salsa bar were definitely fresh and flavorful--I tried the avocado sauce, pico de gallo, and salsa verde. All very good. Cons: I ordered guacamole, and I could taste that the avocados were unripe plus it wasn't salted at all. Because there was no salt or other seasoning in the guacamole, it made the unripe flavor stand out a lot. The beans were also lacking in flavor, though they were definitely better than the guacamole. I could see some onions had been sautéed in the beans which added some flavor, but was pretty lacking otherwise. There were no toppings whatsoever on the tacos, so it was just the meat and the tortilla. I think some onions/cilantro would've been good but to be fair there were some in the salsa bar. I had ordered to go though so I didn't realize I'd need to grab some. Overall it was a good experience, and I think with some improvements it could be great. Salting the guacamole, using ripe avocados, and giving the beans a bit more love would change my rating. read more

I'm solely providing a review of this establishment based on the quality and taste of the food. I attended a special event in honor of a food critic, ironically, who writes food reviews after sampling the food. I suspect this extravaganza was a promo to attract her publicity on account she has over 100,000 social media followers. Again, I bet the food critic was paid to give a positive review or is a friend of the owner. I tried the fish tacos. I've definitely had better. These were breaded and fried yet they still had a fishy taste. I had to mask the fishy taste (maybe old fish) with toppings. I tried the carne asada tacos and the portion was good but the quality of meat used is questionable due to several fatty inedible pieces of meat. Rubios and Rosie's Tacos much better quality and value. Garcias and Macayos are a couple other much better options. La Piñata serves the best Tacos on Tuesday's for $2.50. Each taco cost $1 for the promo from 2-6pm, normally $3.50. Not worth $3.50 each and I won't be a repeat customer. The service was very slow but I suspect it was due to the extravaganza. However, the restaurant needs to focus on having a dedicated to-go and eat-in service team. Why should someone who isn't going to eat there need to wait longer than the person sitting down? read more

It looked promising. My personal experience wasn't great. I ordered three items to go... birria taco, carne asada burrito and chicken nachos. I also ordered a mango margarita to drink, while I waited for my order. The margarita took a long time to make. Like I got my food order seconds after my drink arrived. The drink didn't taste good. It also didn't taste strong. It was very watery tasting, though the appearance was nice. The birria taco was delicious. The nachos had liquid cheese sauce on them and they were not hot. The asada burrito had meat in it so fatty I spit it out. I was so excited to have another "win" nearby but this wasn't it. Both Los Dos Molina and Ponchos are far better than this joint. Really had high hopes for this place but it was a no for us. We ordered tacos and the meat was cold had no flavor. Spent almost $60 on three tacos, quesadilla, and birria tacos. My daughter is a fan of horchata and was looking forward to this drink all day after telling her we were eating Mexican food for dinner. She had an accident on the way out and spelt her drink. I found Carbon Tapatío through TikTok and decided to give it a try since it's close by. I ordered the chilaquiles with arrachera and a carne asada burrito. The arrachera was tasty and definitely the highlight of the chilaquiles! The burrito was also really good--flavorful and satisfying. The chilaquiles themselves could use a little improvement; the tortillas tasted more like they were softened with water rather than soaked in a rich sauce, and there wasn't much cheese. With some small tweaks to the sauce, I think they could be great. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more from the menu! read more

The food was way overpriced. They treat it like a sit down restaurant when it's nothing like a sit down restaurant. One of the female workers in particular was just absolutely rude. My wife and I ordered flautas and a birria burrito. The lettuce on her flautas was just big chunks of lettuce... not even shredded. And her rice was cold and tasted like it was a day old and left a nasty after taste in my mouth. Although the burrito wasn't bad. But they charged over $2 just to add beans and another $2 to add rice. I've been to places that charge to add beans and rice but that was just absurd. And then another $1+ to add cheese. And they expected a tip after the lady with an attitude, the mid as hell food they gave my wife and almost $20 burrito.... It came out to $50 overall. It just wasn't worth it. The burrito was decent otherwise I would've given 1 star. Inside it's just pretty and looks good for social media. We came in because of a viral video on Tik Tok.
