Make "Capsize" your spot in Oxford ! With few places to choose from here in Oxford, this is easily one of the nicest spots. A real casual vibe, great to sit outside on sunny days or early evening sunset. I had the smash burger ($18) based on a recommendation from our server. It included two smash burgers with cheddar cheese, bacon, Lettuce, tomato, onions and a special sauce. On a brioche bun. Also included fries or chips. The fries that I had were perfectly made, nicely seasoned and crispy just how I liked them. Sit indoor or out on the open deck that sits about 100 people or at the covered bar. Bar sits another 15 to 25. It was such a great day to be outside! I didn't get a view of the interior. Super friendly, attentive staff and service (great job Connor). Parking has a private parking lot as well as dock spaces for you to pull up on your boat. And they are also dog friendly. :) I would totally recommend the spot when you come to Oxford, Maryland. Came to check out Oxford for the afternoon while staying at St Michael's. Stopped here for a delicious, waterside lunch! Sat on the deck out back and had shrimp tacos. Finally! I've found a shrimp taco where I don't have to go searching for the shrimp! Each taco came with 3 large pieces of shrimp on a bed of coleslaw/cabbage topped with a tasty sauce. Beautiful day here on the eastern shore of Maryland and a very nice lunch for the four of us. We came by boat and it's always been easy to find a place to tie up to at capsize. We opted to eat at their outdoor deck as it was a beautiful day. We shared an order of onion rings that were very good and while I don't think they were homemade they were cooked perfectly and hit the spot. Wife and I split a chicken salad wrap and our two friends each had the shrimp salad wrap. The chicken salad is especially good and while both our friends enjoyed the shrimp salad I don't think it is quite as good as the chicken salad. Each one of those can very easily be shared especially if you have onion rings as an appetizer. there were very few people when we arrived just before noon but by the time we left the outdoor deck was filling up nicely. We need to branch out on our selections and try some different things as all the food we saw coming out looked very very nice, everything from crab cake to softshell crabs two various salads. Our waitress was very attentive and kept our glasses filled. Looking forward to getting back there a few more times before they close for the season and we will definitely try some other options read more

Great eatery on the water in Oxford. Many boats dock in that area and passengers stop over for lunch or dinner. The place has not just location going for them but also ambiance and food. The interior is airy and has a nautical theme. The patio is very relaxing and overlooks the bay. We opted to dine outdoors. I had the fish and chips, made with rockfish in a light beer batter. The fish was fresh, the portion was generous. The chips that accompanied the dish were regular fries (no malt vinegar) but still very good. My companion liked his rockfish platter. What frustrated me was that I asked the market price of the crab cake entree, then talked with the waitress for a minute more and forgot to follow up on the price. She also did not loop back and let me know. I was genuinely shocked when I got the bill. One crab entree was $60.00. This price is absurd. Went in on a whim for Saturday dinner. Not crowded at all. We were seated immediately. Our server was very friend and polite. The drinks, though a tad pricey for me, we're large and quit strong! The food came out quickly and in order, with just enough time for us to finish our appetizers. I had the fish and ships (chips), and it was AMAZING! The piece of fish was bigger than my hand and barely fit on the plate. The breading was authentic, and not burnt. The fish itself was flaky and smooth, not overly fishy and melted in my mouth. My other half had the swordfish and raved about how it was perfect, and we'll paired with a vegetable side. After we ate, we weren't held hostage for the check, as our friendly server was also quite efficient. Service seems to have taken a dive recently. We have eaten here a few times; while the kitchen was never the fastest, it was within reason. However, on our most recent trip, it took 90 minutes before a small plate of appetizers were served and then another 30 minutes for the main dishes to come. The worst part was that the food tasted like they've been under the heat lamp for a long time. Our waitress was mildly apologetic but did nothing to remedy it. A mid-management employee even gave us the stink eyes for voicing our unhappiness. After repeated complaints, a manager finally came and comped us for the meal. Reading some other recent reviews, it seems like this is not a one-off mistake. I'm disappointed that this place has declined because it used to be a charming spot. read more

While some of our group thought the fish taco portion was a litt the rockfish with bernaise sauce and I loved the sesame encrusted ahi tuna. Both were delicious!! The one thing that felt a bit off was the service was a bit slow. However, that could have resulted from the bar tender or kitchen. Great COVID dining spot with outdoor dining and well spaced tables and QR code menus. They enforce the COVID policies, like 6 people to a table, which is good. They clean the chairs in between seatings but for some reason not the armrests on the day we were there. There is lots of shade for those looking to stay out of the sun. This is a nice little outdoor restaurant (has indoor seating as well) that sits right on the waterfront. We ate outdoors on the dock, which is a very relaxing setting. I ordered the creamy seafood chowder (crab and corn) which was excellent! My daughter got the fish and chips which was also very good. Our server was a sweet girl who did a good job taking care of us! Overall, 4.25 for this location, GREAT location, quiet, boats all around, waterfront, and very relaxing. Oxford Maryland only has so many restaurants. This one was the worst one and most expensive. Our au gratin potatoes were burnt with an odd flavor of cheeses. The spinach had long stems, was not cooked long enough, and sautéed in what seemed like olive oil. The burger was alright but a basic burger and expensive for exactly that. Our drinks were terrible. I do not know if it is season, but the restaurant does not open until 5pm. The restaurant faces east, so there is no sunset. read more

We stopped by for lunch by boat on July 12, 2023. In past years, this was one of our favorite restaurants to take guests; however, this time we were really disappointed. The menu has changed and we don't think it is nearly as good. I finally settled on the Reuben sandwich and it was really subpar. The corned beef was really tough and fatty (see photo). I took half the sandwich home and tried to "defat" it the next day but there wasn't much left of the corned beef when I finished. Two of our party had the gazpacho and said it was very good. One of our party had filet oscar and commented that it did not appear to have any crab meat on top. Service was adequate. I have since heard that they have a new chef so perhaps this would explain the situation. We are not anxious to return. read more

This place was one of the highlights of our trip. Staying in St Michaels requiring a quick ferry ride over. Restaurant sits with a great view, right on the water. Place has beautiful decor, huge lounge space to grab drinks before dinner both inside and outside. Service was good, although it took a while for server to come over, I'm hoping this was an outlier, because for rest of meal our waitress was very attentive. Lobster roll was crazy good! Comes on two buns, filled with claw meat, light on mayo (New England style), and piled high with fries. We both ate every bite. Can't wait to return to try other stuff on menu. This is a review of Capsize after eating there the night of 6-21-22, a night that I'm sure will live in infamy. Short version: this place completely imploded before our eyes and the two stars are only because two of the staff members were valiantly trying to keep the place running; otherwise it would be zero. Longer version is that we were waiting at the bar for our table when it became obvious that the head bartender had been made general manager for the night and was NOT happy about it: the kitchen was a disaster and he was out of some pretty basic liquors. 20 min later we were seated, and 30 minutes after that , we had to go to the hostess station to say we had yet to see a waiter. Then began the long parade of we-have-that-oh-nevermind-we're-out-of-that. It started with a general declaration that they were out of crab cakes, fries, and bison burgers. It then became a never ending sequence: "How about the mahi mahi special?" "Yes we have that ... [5 min later ] No, we're out of that." "Do you have a side of green beans?" "Yes, we have that ...No, we're out of that." "Seafood gumbo?" [Same thing.] Even basics like rice or grits were a Yes ... then No. (Eventually, miraculously, and highly amusingly, we eventually did eat: three mediocre orders of shrimp tacos, a passable order of "crab balls" appetizers, and two salads that seemed to have been kicked or juggled into their bowls. Luckily at that point we were just there for the show.) Meanwhile, we had plenty of time to observe that the place was being run by fourteen-year-olds with no experience and no clue. Hostesses, busboys and busgirls, and most of the wait staff were all teenagers. I kinda wished that we could have seen what was really going on in the kitchen: Whether it was just chaos, teenagers running amok, or a full complement of I-don't-give-a-&@!*. Probably all three. The two experienced-looking staff -- the bitter bartender and our tall, ponytailed waiter -- both declared they were quitting after that night and _because of_ that night. Apparently one of them had been working there six years. Whatever the outcome, they both deserve medals for getting through this longest day ever. I imagine that the entire kitchen staff has quit ... or maybe they had already quit mid shift. Go to this restaurant if there's a banner saying "Under New Management." Right now it's under NO Management. I only wish there were some maritime metaphor for how this restaurant is run ... aground? ... adrift? rudderless? Oh wait, it's right there in the name! This used to be my favorite place to go in Oxford - sadly, that is no longer the case. They're under new management with a new chef who has completely ruined the menu. Staple menu items are gone, food quality is down and the service is slow. The worst mistake made was changing their fish and chips recipe. They also removed crab dip from their menu - I don't understand how that's remotely possible for a Maryland restaurant - especially one on the water. The other half of our party was never served any of the food ordered. Every 30 minutes or so, "we're out of this and that". This was our second time going. The first time was bad. We had ordered a wrap and the tortilla had mold on it. Nevertheless, we wanted to give it a second chance since it's in such a convenient location. Our appetizer came before our drinks even got to the table. When our entrees came, I had ordered a BLT chicken wrap. It came without any chicken on it....my mom ordered a Summer chicken salad. It had a scoop of chicken salad over some greens.
