I asked for extra pickles and finally found a bartender who "gets" me. She brought a large portion. We had an unrushed visit with our friends. Only thing, crab season had just ended so we weren't able to have the steak and crab cake meal we were looking forward to again....BUT we did have the steak and SCALLOPS!!!! So that was just as amazing. I ordered the chocolate martini which truly was like an elevated pudding pop like beverage. I loved every sip. We started with the house recommended appetizer- 4 baked oysters with a butter sauce and crab meat. SO delicious and freshly in season. We each got the steak frites cooked medium rare with scallops on the side. My hubby got the truffle fries which really are phenomenal and I wanted to try the newer truffle grits. The truffle grits were so creamy and decadent and fortunately, my hubby also shared some fries both the best of both worlds. Our servers and the owner are always the best and most hospitable. I'm always so impressed with how so many locals love to dine here too. This was the first year I learned they have an area in the back patio and upstairs for events! Looked beautiful. The eating at the bar overlooking the chef's preparations is an experience you must do. So cool and mildly intoxicating to watch the busy hum of the kitchen and hear the "hands" right before the freshly hot and prepared meal is in front of you to feast. The employee responded with an attitude--asking "what do you want me to do to the table" as if it were a massive inconvenience. I then noticed the host wiping it down, and looking back, that should have been our cue to leave. Once seated, the service was virtually non-existent. After waiting close to 15 minutes, I told my wife it was time to get up and leave--right at that moment, our server finally showed up, took our order, and vanished. The Food & Portion Sizes: My wife ordered the Fettuccine Bolognese, which she noted had a wonderful flavor. I ordered the Limonecello Burrata Ravioli ($21), but it was so mild it was practically flavorless. My biggest issue, however, was the portion size. I have no problem paying $21 a plate, but what came out looked and felt like a tapas dish or a small appetizer. It was a joke as my dish came with the equivalent of about four chopped-up shrimp and three average-sized raviolis. I genuinely thought the server was dropping off an appetizer by mistake. Timing: We had small plates on the table, and I wondered if bread was included. Given the tiny portion size of the entrée, I figured probably not. Ironically, after we had finished eating our meals, our server showed back up with bread and an apology. To top it all off, we waited 15 minutes after finishing for someone to bring us the check, and another 10 minutes just to have it picked up and returned to us to sign. At that point, all the other outdoor tables had finished, and there were only two tables filled inside. Charge a fair price, but please give your customers enough food to eat and train the staff on basic hospitality.
