Crapes, petit crab cakes, & lamb ragu
    Lewis W.

I wanted to really like this place and they do make an effort, but between the "small" plate concept and the prices, I felt disappointed. The wait staff was great, friendly and knowledgeable, the food was tasty but "small" plates with big prices, $12 for two little crab cakes and $8 for some meat sauce on polenta, isn't going to get me to come back. Overall, I've had much, much worse, but this just isn't my kind of place.

    Linguini and clams
    Tamara M.

It's the charm of Pope's that initially get your attention. There aren't many locations to dine at in Oxford and I wanted something in walking distance of where I was staying for the weekend. We were able to get a table outside despite not having reservations. There were 3 specials that night but I chose the linguini and clams which is on their current menu. The wine list is extensive. Having had wine before walking over I didn't order any. Next time perhaps? The linguini was made with squid ink and had pieces of clams mixed in as well as surrounded with clams in the shells. Presentation was a plus. The sauce was fantastic and I didn't save any for leftovers. The dish was just THAT good. If you're looking for something cozy and delish with a good price point here's your place.

Crab Cake with Eastern Shore Succotash

Stellar food. My father-in-law proclaims they have the best burger on the Eastern Shore. I had the special: potato wrapped halibut- beautiful presentation, flaky potato baked around a hunk of high quality halibut. The ceviche was so fresh and brightly flavored. My husband ordered the crab cake. (meaty, crispy outside... I only had one bite because it disappeared so quickly). The succotash was my personal favorite. The wait staff is always genuinely friendly- and while I wish they had a high chair- they were patient, accommodating and sweet with our little kids.

No longer open. Was a great restaurant when they were open, but no longer in business. Under new management & renovations under way!

Very delicious food. In the cutest town Oxford and even serves as an inn. Loved the environment.

Can't say enough about the restaurant the food the atmosphere and the fun that I have enjoyed at Pope's. Worth a visit or a trip to Oxford.

It wasn't warm, but it was soft. It was served with an olive oil. Our table ordered the steak, four cheese ravioli, Caesar salad and pasta with butter for the kids. Everything was extremely well! We liked the pasta with butter the best and that was for the kids! Lol. The wine is charged by the ounce. It's almost like a tasting of wines where you can pour it yourself. It was great to allow a chance to try a variety of wines. We stopped in our way to the beach and would like to make it a staple! The steak is not served every night. It is a Thursday-Sunday serving, so it's best to check the special mains as it's not a staple item on the menu.

The cafeteria style wine dispensers could have benefitted from somalier staff to explain what the various labels were and what the wines were about, as well as to recommend pairings. I don't like to be on my phone at a restaurant researching wines, trying to decide which values to explore when I'm unfamiliar with all of them. I think my server was too young to know that much about wines beyond the crib notes. I had the tonno crudo which was a lovely dish, but the olive oil had a bitter metallic taste to it, and since raw tuna and the olive oil were the only two flavors of the dish, the olive oil spoiled the flavor a little bit. I highly recommend McElvoy's superb buttery oil from CA. When you have very few ingredients or processes, as is the case in Italian cooking, each of the ingredients has to be over the top. Perfect . I also had the Pasta Medici with lobster and spinach wrapped up shushi-style in two small sheets of house-made pasta and served upended in a small box. The lobster was good, but the creamed spinach did not taste like Florence's best, and I could taste flour and butter in the undercooked pasta. For a signature dish, I would have expected five star efforts, but on this dish only the lobster was really edible. I really want this place to be a success, and I want to have a great experience there. It feels like a good, well-intentioned crew is still getting its act together and working out the kinks. For a very high-quality food experience the servers also need to be sophisticated to help Interpret the dishes and wine for the diners. Keep trying, Wardroom! You've got a very promising vision. If you could re-introduce humans back into the mix, italian-style, you might have a winner!

Mecca was our very caring waitstaff. Melissa was the Manager. My companion and I each had a concern, about which we spoke with Melissa. We said we'd mention these in our Yelp review. 1. I came in just after the restaurant opened at 11:30 am. To my horror, the floors were soaking wet. My walking stick (both I and my friend are senior citizens) nearly flew out of my hands. I nearly fell -- but caught myself. Such washing, important as it is, needs to be done -- and be thoroughly dry! -- well before ANY guests arrive! 2. My friend couldn't easily enter the restaurant because the door is very heavy and she couldn't reach the single cleat that was intended as a grab bar. A server came to her rescue and helped her inside. In order to keep us seniors independent and UNembarrased for as long as possible, more grab bars and a railing need to be installed at the primary entry as well as at the secondary one. The 2nd entrance, also on Talbot Street, should be available ALL THE TIME; this entry has no steps into the restaurant, and there are easily reachable tables right there. In many ways I highly recommend this restaurant, with the above-described cautions appropriately taken into account.
