We were a party of 14 and were disappointed to learn that the restaurant could not provide separate checks and could accept only six credit cards. We were told that cash would be collected first, with the remaining balance divided evenly among the cardholders. We spoke with one of the part owners, who explained that this was a limitation of the restaurant's software. While we understand that software can have limitations, customers should not have to bear the inconvenience. We have dined at many restaurants with large groups and have never encountered this issue. We feel that a restaurant should have a system in place that allows customers to pay their individual portions in a reasonable and convenient manner. The food and atmosphere may be one thing, but customer service includes making the payment process as easy as possible for your guests. In this case, we did not feel that was accomplished. read more

First time at docs in several years. Our party of four came by boat and were able to use one of their slips on the side of the restaurant. They recently completed their outdoor dining renovation which consisted of a lower covered area and an upper deck with sweeping views of the tred Avon. We opted for the lower seating area as they only had high tops on the upper deck. The top deck also has shade covering. Great view of the river from both locations and we were very comfortable on a hot day due to a nice breeze as well as the fans they have on the deck. Chelsea was our server and she was efficient and personable. We opted for an order of onion rings, crab cake, mussels, coconut shrimp and a Burrata salad. we usually go to Capsize Restaurant by boat and docs clearly is bringing in more people which I suspect is largely related to their location on the river. Our food was mixed with the crab cake being a solid two star with too much filler and poor seasoning, tasted like one of the nasty crabcakes we get in Florida. The coconut shrimp were done nicely but the provided sauce was so hot that it took our guest breath away. My muscles were a solid four star and they mixed in spicy sausage and shrimp as part of the mix and it was very good. The garlic bread that came with it was in my opinion forgettable. The Burrata salad was a solid four star plus as was the avocado crab gazpacho which our guest had as an appetizer. Onion rings were OK but straight out of a box. All in all, I would gladly return especially during happy hour as I suspect they do a very big business. read more

We live in SOMD but we visit Doc's by boat frequently through the summer. We always sit at the outside bar. The staff has always been super friendly, and drinks and food have always come out very quickly. They have very good crushes and their seared ahi tuna is my favorite menu it. It's always fresh and a good cut of tuna. Many times when I order seared tuna at restaurants there is always a section that is extremely chewy but that's never been the case at Doc's. Their wings are also great and popular amongst the group we typically go to Doc's with. If coming by boat, I recommend getting there early to try and snag a slip or spot on the backside as it gets very rough docking in the front or side of the restaurant. read more

After a morning of boating and realizing that everything else in the area was closed (it was the day after Thanksgiving), my friend and I luckily found Doc's Sunset Grille online. We called, they said they were open, and they had plenty of boat parking spaces, score! There were a good number of people there so service was a bit slow, but someone eventually came and took our order. We shared the Hot Crab Dip and Crab Cake Platter (because why would you get a non-crab item while on the Bay?!?). Both were delicious. The crab dip was really heavy so I was feeling kind of full after eating just that. The crab cakes were huge and pretty tasty. Lots of fresh crab which I loved. Also came with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans, which I loved less. The green beans were a bit soggy and too garlicky for me. But the crab cake, yum! We found this lovely place last October, though we have been to Oxford 6 times in the past. We came for a quick 2-day stay on Friday, June 28th. On Saturday evening when our check came my Orange Crush was $12.49, when the menu clearly had $11 printed. The bartender said "he'd give me my $1.50 out of the register if I wanted", then later told me the price included the tax. Not true. We were in there the night before and two $12 drinks showed $12 each on my receipt (which I happened to keep from the evening before). I told the bartender who had a little attitude that it is false advertisement. Loved the atmosphere, but Doc's needs to update their drinks menu prices. read more

Most managers when given constructive criticism in person or via social respond in a positive tone and happily welcome back the customer to offer a better experience. It's surprising that after two weeks between visits the margarita was not improved. Previously I did mention to the bartender the margarita was not good and was offered a different drink.
