We were a party of 14 and were disappointed to learn that the restaurant could not provide separate checks and could accept only six credit cards. We were told that cash would be collected first, with the remaining balance divided evenly among the cardholders. We spoke with one of the part owners, who explained that this was a limitation of the restaurant's software. While we understand that software can have limitations, customers should not have to bear the inconvenience. We have dined at many restaurants with large groups and have never encountered this issue. We feel that a restaurant should have a system in place that allows customers to pay their individual portions in a reasonable and convenient manner. The food and atmosphere may be one thing, but customer service includes making the payment process as easy as possible for your guests. In this case, we did not feel that was accomplished. read more

Another great lunch on the deck at docs. Word of caution if you come by boat, I would strongly suggest you use the designated slips behind the restaurant in the marina. There is enough large boat traffic on the tred Avon that there are significant waves that roll past the restaurant and if you are tied up on one of the slips on the side you had better be well protected because you're boat will rock 'n' roll. Lunch wise we had the muscles, a daily special beef sandwich, a chicken salad and another grilled chicken sandwich. I also had a bowl of Maryland crab soup. Everybody raved about their meal and I cannot speak highly enough of the docs muscles as they come with a delightful broth filled with muscles, a few good size shrimp, finally chopped tomato and green pepper along with small pieces of chorizo which gives the whole dish a wonderful kick to it. I remove all the muscles and then take my toasty bread that comes with it to soak up as much of the broth as possible and it is delightful. My one bone of contention was when we got the bill I saw where the Maryland crab soup was $22 and I thought that must've been a mistake but the waiter confirmed the price was correct and it was market price. While the soup was very good and they was sufficient crap meat in It I think that price is way overboard especially this time of year when crabs are still running pretty well and there is no shortage of crab meat. We live in SOMD but we visit Doc's by boat frequently through the summer. We always sit at the outside bar. The staff has always been super friendly, and drinks and food have always come out very quickly. They have very good crushes and their seared ahi tuna is my favorite menu it. It's always fresh and a good cut of tuna. Many times when I order seared tuna at restaurants there is always a section that is extremely chewy but that's never been the case at Doc's. Their wings are also great and popular amongst the group we typically go to Doc's with. If coming by boat, I recommend getting there early to try and snag a slip or spot on the backside as it gets very rough docking in the front or side of the restaurant. read more

After a morning of boating and realizing that everything else in the area was closed (it was the day after Thanksgiving), my friend and I luckily found Doc's Sunset Grille online. We called, they said they were open, and they had plenty of boat parking spaces, score! There were a good number of people there so service was a bit slow, but someone eventually came and took our order. We shared the Hot Crab Dip and Crab Cake Platter (because why would you get a non-crab item while on the Bay?!?). Both were delicious. The crab dip was really heavy so I was feeling kind of full after eating just that. The crab cakes were huge and pretty tasty. Lots of fresh crab which I loved. We thought we would go for an early dinner, but there's was a 15 minute wait for outdoor tables. Lots of people both indoor and outdoor even before 6 pm. Location was fantastic, right by the water. Service and food were mediocre. We ordered a spinach salad and soft shell crab sandwich. Masks were not required, and it was crowded. Waitresses were busy, and it was hard to get their attention sometimes. We didn't linger longer for the beautiful sunset. Again this is a location-based restaurant, local people come here for family and friends gatherings. We found this lovely place last October, though we have been to Oxford 6 times in the past. We came for a quick 2-day stay on Friday, June 28th. On Saturday evening when our check came my Orange Crush was $12.49, when the menu clearly had $11 printed. The bartender said "he'd give me my $1.50 out of the register if I wanted", then later told me the price included the tax. Not true. We were in there the night before and two $12 drinks showed $12 each on my receipt (which I happened to keep from the evening before). Most managers when given constructive criticism in person or via social respond in a positive tone and happily welcome back the customer to offer a better experience. Other yelp users will see this professional response and feel welcome to come experience the establishment. Margaritas are not that complicated. It's surprising that after two weeks between visits the margarita was not improved. Previously I did mention to the bartender the margarita was not good and was offered a different drink.
