The view is beautiful and relaxing!!! The food was just ok; lacked flavor. I got the seared rockfish. He got crab cakes and we had the seafood nachos. The presentation of the food was very nice. The nachos had a little more flavor because of the Old Bay seasoning (basically salt). There was a wait which we were told was about 20-25 minutes. Cool, gave my phone number to call when our table was ready. So we sat in the outside bar area which is very chilled. Time goes on and no call. Once I go back in the young lady tells me I've called you a lot. I asked her what number she has; off by on digit on the last four. So instead of checking outside for us she just checks our name off the list and keeps going. The worse part of this experience is the couple at the table behind us had a small dog at the table, wrapped in a blanket that kept passing back and forth over the table. Then at one point the dog had his front paws up on the table looking around. . Only a service dog belongs in a restaurant and certainly not up on a table. And I am a true dog lover! read more

When we visit Oxford annually, Docs is usually our go-to place. The view is the best, and the service is usually good. However, we've noticed that the last few times we've gone, the food quality is lacking, and the prices are increasing. The last time we went, I ordered the fish tacos, which are $21, a high price for fish tacos in the surrounding area, and certainly for the minuscule quantity of actual fish that you get. If you want a salad instead of chips, it's another $4.50 (even though the waitress told us it was only a $3 upcharge). So you end up paying over $25 for a dish that should be in the $16-$19 range according to market prices. Unfortunately my salad was several days old, wilted and slimy. I had to pick through most of it. My husband's fish and chips turned out the same. Wilted salad for an extra $4.50 and a tiny piece of fish. We decided that despite the good view (which is currently under construction and has minimal out door seating) we will probably try another place next time. read more

Perfect spot to enjoy great food and a cocktail !! You have the option of dining on the deck overlooking the Tred Avon river or hanging out at the Tiki Bar , either way it's a great outdoor option . Being seasonal you get to do this for a limited time so take advantage of great weather as they close for the winter . read more

This was an unexpectedly pleasant surprise. Even though it was a Friday afternoon and the place should have been packed; it wasn't. We were able to get a great table outside and waterside. This wasn't our first time here. We return because of the variety. You may choose sitting indoors or outside, either on the deck or at the bar. Today, we chose to sit at the bar. A lot couches and other seating are provided as well. The views are spectacular. Today, we chose rock fish wraps (jammed packed with striped bass) and pork shanks. Superb. Greasy seafood with a million dollar view. Doc's Sunset Grille is appropriately named: Most of the food I ate was grilled, my date and I enjoyed a gorgeous sunset as we dined, and I probably needed to visit the doctor's after ingesting all the deep fried goodness. Doc's is a seafood pub, serving beers and fried fish while overlooking the ocean with local wildlife relaxing right next to you. For our appetizer, we ordered the onion rings. These rings weren't anything special, but they were covered in lots of golden batter, fried to a crispy perfection with a tangy spicy ranch sauce for dipping. They are a great side-dish to pair with a beer. For my main course, I had the crab cakes. The crab cake entree can come with either one or two cakes and I'm very glad I got the one, because these things are massive and one was more than enough to fill me up. They were exactly what I expect from a Maryland style seafood restaurant: chunks of shredded crab meat in a ball of batter that was fried. Overall tasty, but nothing particularly noteworthy other than their good quality. We also ordered the softshell crab for our second main course. For those unaware, they take young crabs in the process of molting their shells so that their new shells are still soft, and fry them so that you can eat the entire crab, shell and all. It's a great dish, but I felt that Doc's relied on too much seasoning, and I missed a lot of the crab flavor. Considering the high price of the soft shell crab, I'd pass on this dish in the future. Doc's menu consists of both expensive and cheap menu items. I'd pass on the expensive stuff and go for the deliciously fried seafood you'd expect from a place that serves their beer cold, cheap, and plentiful. Doc's Sunset Grille is a great place for catching up with friends with a beer in one hand, a crab cake in the other, and a great view to bring it all home. read more

Went in on the first Friday night after re-opening due to the pandemic. We were greeted by the staff, but there was a 30 minute wait for a table. We were then offered seats at the bar, which worked out great. The bartender was cheerful, and got our drinks to us quickly. She didn't pressure us about ordering, but was on the spot when we were ready to order. I like this location much better than the Easton location (Doc's Downtown). There's a much more mellow vibe here, and a relaxed atmosphere. The food isn't bad, and the service is fantastic. The only downside is the gravel parking lot. We had a mini family reunion on the eastern shore of Maryland, staying in Oxford. We anticipated 22 guests and prearranged a reservation for Friday night. The weather was odd that week and rain was expected. Docs called me twice to check what we'd like for seating since rain was expected and then the weather changed. Once we arrived we were seated right away on the patio under patio roof and the drink orders were taken immediately. Our servers did a super job handling our large group. The MD crabs were sweet and large and the clams were also delicious. It was a perfect night and I would return to Docs in a heartbeat. First time visiting this place. The view of the water and the sunset is hard to beat-- absolutely gorgeous! Definitely a great spot for photos, boat watching, etc. The menu had a good selection of options and they were very accommodating regarding no-lactose. Both the hostess that seated as well as the waitress for our table were exceptionally friendly. Food was delicious and arrived in reasonable time considering how busy they were. Well for the view it's a 5 blended w the food makes it a 2. As simple as the French fries are they have to be the worst French fries in the state. Old nasty dried out cold fries. How hard is it to have fresh hand cut fries. Charge extra whatever.. Then to top the cold fries that were awful we get a Caesar salad that was slathered in dressing that taste like mayonnaise. They put on a fistful of parsley. Wtf is with the parsley on a salad. Who does that??? Docs downtown is good,,, this place is same as it always was. Terrible food and a great view. We went down to Oxford to see the sunset and decided to try Doc's Sunset Grill. The food was delicious. We each had soup. Shared the mussels and they were amazing! Very disappointing. We enjoy Doc's other locations in Easton and Centreville, so we thought we would try Sunset. The Burger Du Jour (mushroom, Swiss, w/garlic aioli) was good and our waitress was was great, upbeat, friendly, fast. But those were the only positives. The hostess that greeted and seated was sullen as if someone had just kidnapped her pet cat. The "steak and cake special" was terrible. The crab cake was not bad. But the steak was overcooked, but cold and completely lacking in flavor, as if they're trying to save money on seasonings. The asparagus was not "snapped" so one end of each stalk was like a wooden twig while the other end was overcooked mush. And again, no seasoning. I understand we are operating in difficult times, but this was definitely sub-par. read more

I think this place needs more and better reviews. I don't normally bother with restaurants less than about 4 Yelp stars -- but we are stranded in Oxford (broken boat) -- and Uber was not an option. But they messed up all the little things (such as a bun that did not seem fresh, on my hamburger). Back to Doc's. Here's what we got, and a few words on each. -Iced tea. Just good. Not too sweet or unsweet. Delivered promptly. Even that is a tall bar for many places. -Reuben. Hot. Crisp. Not fatty. A decent size. Not buttery/greasy. -Fries. Crispy. This and everything else that was 'pposed to be hot was hot, and 'pposed to be cold was cold. -Cole slaw. Good. Fresh and not too mayonaissey. -My wife's mahi sandwich. She liked it. She had roughly the same opinions as me, on everything, so possibly this should be a 9 star review. -Crab bites. Hot. Good crab chunks. Delivered speedily. Ok portion. Overall, not a bad place to be stranded. We plan to go back tomorrow. The server was excellent as well. He paid attention to us without pestering us. Good ambiance for a waterfront cafe. They even got it right with hands-washing stations. A nice big sink off to the side of the bar and yes the soap dispenser had soap and the paper towel dispenser had paper towels. read more

Came here as a last minute decision to try and catch the sunset whilst consuming some seafoods of the mid-Atlantic. The result was a clear mixed bag. The back-side patio with outdoor seating would be very nice for an evening sunset, however the clouds rained on that parade. However, no blame on Doc's, for they are not God (that would be blasphemous). Nevertheless, they may want to take a gander at the railings that patrons sit next to when they are right up against the water - a lot of creepy crawlers (think Charlotte's Web, except not as cute) were spinning and shooting their webs around, trying to show us their goods. No thanks, at least not while we are eating. But again, mother nature, I can hardly blame them - well maybe just a half-star off. The food though, was just mediocre. It was decent seafood you would expect at an American-style seafood restaurant (crab cakes, fish sandwiches, calamari, etc.). Nothing told my heart that I would want to come back again in the future, but at the same time nothing told me that I could not be convinced to come back for a sunset dinner. My gut feeling is that this place does well due to it's proximity to the water, but if this place were to be inland, it would likely not fare too well. I had the crab cake sandwich, whilst trying some of the other platters from my amigos. The crab cake sandwich was a straight 3/5. Good amount of crab in the cake, but overall nothing to scream about in terms of flavor. It was literally a bun, lettuce, tomato, and some tartar sauce all-in-one. Easy enough, but not tasty enough. Also had a taste of the Seafood Stuffed Avocado and the Prime Rib Dip; both were just ok. Really, I need not go longer for you are already bored of this mediocre 3-star review. My husband I enjoyed a quiet Sunday lunch on a sunny day in winter. Nice location and view. Started with a Manhattan - would not recommend it - watery like it'd been left sitting in the shaker too long, and a bit skimpy. The service was decent; the food was good. I ordered the crabmeat stuffed flounder with fresh green beans and roasted potatoes, nicely plated. My husband had the stuffed shrimp (3 total, FYI). Negatively reviewed Doc's in a previous post and the manager reached out to me immediately. He even sent a gift card and asked us to return. We did so last Friday evening. Had a brief wait for a table so sat at the bar. The bar staff was very friendly and attentive! Great drinks, too. We sat outside to eat and they did have to move our table away from the railing as it started to rain. Our waitress showed up immediately and was fantastic!! Stayed in Oxford MD for the weekend, tried DOC's Thursday and liked it so much went back again Friday. Customer service was excellent. The Owner Bo came out to meet us as it was my son's birthday. Spent lots of time with us and explained the history of DOC's. The food was spot on and above expectations for a Pub and Grill atmosphere. Prices were lower than what you would expect to pay for the quality delivered. $0.50 oyster special was a bonus. I highly recommend the sesame crusted Tuna. read more

Nothing is much worse than being ignored at a restaurant. First thing is that the restaurant was not at all busy. We got separated from the hostess as we were going to our table. She had left the menus on the table and didn't wait for us to arrive. 15 minutes later, after a waitress had walked by us 3 times with speaking to us, again she was not busy with other tables, we left our table and asked another hostess if we could speak to the manager. I have been here before and the food and service was great. Today the service was terrible from the young male kid who barely acknowledged me and acted like he didn't want to be there. Someone else who was possibly a manager was better. I did send my meal back as it appeared and tasted undercooked and another patron thought so too. I received another meal, though I do believe it was tampered with in the kitchen. I'm sickened by this. I was even barely acknowledged for the check. This was our first visit since the Masthead became Doc's Sunset Grille. We were hesitant, as we had liked the previous restaurant quite a bit and were regulars. The food is excellent. I had a Build your own Grilled Chicken sandwich, minus the bun. The chicken was tender and cooked just right, with the requested provolone and sautéed mushrooms and onions in generous proportion smothering the top. The coleslaw, which can be substituted for the chips that come with the sandwich, was creamy and delicious. The Mojito was fabulous. Chip got the house special sandwich, a BLT with bacon, fried green tomatoes and a crab old bay mayo. He was very happy with it. It was served on a nice bun. We'll be back... a lot. read more
