This was a wonderful restaurant up to now! It is closed as the absence owner would not pay his only wonderful chef the raise in pay he had been offered! He gave the wonderful staff a 3 day notice with no severance! The staff were wonderful, caring hospitality and very hard working! The chef was not only very good at menu design, purchasing and cooking great food, he also handled all the books for the absentee owner! The way he treated the staff has caused me to write this and declare we will never go back as long as he owns it! The staff was left to miss their living for their families! I went maybe four times over the last four years, special occasion dinners. The entrees were always good, though I found the small plates/appetizers limited. The wait was usually quite long. Not once in any of my visits did they have bread to offer for the table. "We're out of bread" -- literally every time. I always found that wild for a restaurant. Wine special night was a good deal. We don't live very far away from this restaurant. We went Saturday night and sat at the bar. My companion had the pork chop, which was to his liking. I had the shrimp and grits, which was very DISSAPOINTING. The ($33.00) grits were too soft and not thick enough and the shrimp were Very small and only about six. Quick picnic stop: This place was exactly what we needed it to be. Grab some lunchbox type of snacks like chips and cookies- and have really great fresh sub sandwiches made, and walk across the street and sit by the any. I loved everything about my experience here. I went as part of a group of eight for brunch, and we all had a fantastic experience and wonderful meal. The location is picturesque - darling old general store on a quiet country road surrounded by farmland. The interior is modernized and charming with interesting rustic / art deco / hipster influences (see photos - it's hard to explain). The service was attentive but not smothering. They made recommendations/answered questions. They even split the bill by person for all eight people, which I haven't seen a restaurant do in - oh - 10 years? The owner was very friendly and chatted with us about fun things we could do in the area during our stay once we had finished and paid. Oh - they also made a custom dessert for someone at the table who is a vegan. The food was awesome. I had the Jumbo Lump Maryland Crab Cake with edamame succotash and a lemon basil aioli - probably the best crab cake I've ever had. Every part of the dish was flavorful and obviously fresh, and the crab cake had tons of meat versus filler. I also loved the tang of the aioli . Others at the table had the Nutella & Banana French Toast (Huge! He licked his plate clean), the Hanger Steak & Eggs (Steak was nicely cooked and the grits were incredible), the "Tea House" Benedicts, and the Roasted Beet Salad. Everyone seemed happy and full. We also had a wonderful dessert course with a peach bread pudding and then a brownie sundae with this incredible biscotti ice cream from The Scottish Highland Creamery. In terms of drinks, the house iced coffee was good and they also offer tons of unique teas (hence the restaurant name). I also LOVED their Bloody Mary - what a "wow" drink, what with bacon and shrimp included in it. You have to check out the photo... I don't know that I'll ever be in Easton again, but I'd come back if I were - and I definitely recommend this over a lot of the places in the downtown Easton area. read more

It has been a few years since we have been to T's and that was a mistake. That will not happen in the future. Everything was great from the cocktails to the dessert.. Oysters were prepared perfectly. When we called to see if we could come in early, the women (2) we spoke to said they had no record of the reservation, and were unapologetic, dismissive and unhelpful in the extreme. We tried this restaurant dinner last night for a quiet anniversary dinner. Not a huge selection of entrees, but something for everyone. Good presentation, good food. We had gazpacho, salmon special/soft shell crab, blueberry bread pudding/cherry brownie dessert. Dessert prices a bit on the high side. Service was pleasant and better than other comments I've read; a little slow in clearing the last plates. Menu changes frequently. We will come back and try brunch sometime. read more

Diners please note when the bill arrives you will find suggested gratuity amounts at the bottom. 18%, 20% etc. strange that these suggested amounts are incorrect. If you do the math using your bill total, the suggested amounts are anywhere from $2.25 to 2.50 above the actual 18% etc... At risk of losing our seat, the food here is incredible. Many (maybe all?) dishes include tea in some way. For a new restaurant, they've settled in quickly. Service is excellent, and the atmosphere is friendly. The wine list is short, but a good complement to the dishes. The menu is not huge, but is heavy on local ingredients, tea, and interesting combinations. The local rockfish is cooked just right and cut as a thick loin rather than a filet. It is served with something they call "mushroom hash", a combination of mushrooms, potatoes, crab meat, and vegetables in a tea sauce. I'd order this as a side if it was available, it's that good. Haven't tried Sunday brunch, but I'm looking forward to it. If you're in St. Michaels, Easton, or anywhere in Talbot county, make the short trip to Royal Oak and try it out. read more

Stupid. Good. Food. Seriously. We went here on the recommendation of a friend and were lucky enough to score seats for their New Year's Eve menu ($70.00 for three courses, plus an amuse bouche and glass of prosecco to start). The restaurant is casual and quite small, but has definite "flair" (in the good way, not the "Office Space" way). There is a parking lot adjacent with overflow spots next door. The staff is welcoming, organized, and professional (Gary is, simply, a delight); they also take their time to acknowledge their regulars and chat with newbies (even on a busy night such as NYE). The menu was well-planned and varied, and able to please many palates: I had the lobster and fennel salad to start, followed by rack of lamb (perfectly cooked medium-rare) with a mint chimichurri sauce (delicious, much lighter than mint jelly - of which I am not a fan), corn souflee (I want this recipe, it's a great update on the traditional corn pudding I make for Thanksgiving), and roasted brussel sprouts; my husband began his meal with a Talbot County white cheddar soup drizzled with chive oil (thick and hearty, with a nice emphasis on local purveyors), his main was an individual beef Wellington (again, perfectly cooked) served with asparagus and gold potatoes. For dessert we shared the chocolate-mint pot de creme (very slight mint flavor, not overwhelming) and Linzer torte (delicious, just wish the slice had been larger...). Considering it was NYE and they had one seating before ours (the first at 5:30, second at 7:30), the timing of the meal was great. Maybe most important of all, we didn't feel rushed; in fact, we chatted with one of the owners after our dinner for a bit and it was nice he took the time to get to know us. That, of course, is one of the best things about the Eastern Shore - the personalities of the people who live, work, and play here - and Royal Oak can now showcase that Shore hospitality to the "T" (sorry, couldn't help it!). read more

We came down to the Eastern Shore specifically to have dinner here, because we had such a lovely, happenstance meal here last summer when we were in the area for a funeral. What a lucky find! I'm torn between wanting to keep this place to myself -- so it doesn't become overrun with tourists -- and wanting it to have LOADS of business, so that it stays open forever! What impresses me the most is the consistently thoughtful combinations of items on each plate: everything complements everything else perfectly! This visit, I had the chilled cantaloupe soup -- amazingly tasty, and very refreshing! -- the chai-tea-rubbed roasted Kendall Farms free range chicken (with Israeli couscous and baby carrots), and for dessert, the Pavlova with fresh berries and lemon curd. My husband did the mushroom soup, and the pan-seared tuna with kimchi rice, grilled asparagus, and local organic fried egg. We both had cocktails (me the Mimosa, hubby the Earl Greyhound). Still astonished at the reasonable prices we paid for such an upscale, beautifully-prepared-with-healthy-ingredients dinner! I was completely stuffed mid-meal and knew I wanted dessert, but I couldn't let one pearl of couscous stay on the plate, the flavors were so expertly combined! One more thing: the bread and butter. You will never taste butter this good, anywhere else, bar none. It's a mouth-pleasing tea-and-honey infused butter that I've thus far been unable to replicate at home. They do sell containers that you can take home with you -- and we were armed with a cooler and ice this time! -- but sadly, they were short on butter the night we were there, and couldn't sell us a container. Sob! We don't eat shellfish (I'm allergic) or red meat, so our restaurant orders tend to be either (non-shell) fish, or poultry. It is VERY hard to find a great restaurant on the Eastern Shore that doesn't put crab on everything, or that does its non-shellfish dishes well or inventively. T at the General Store is the place for you if you're looking for a restaurant that does a well-rounded menu, and does it well. It's a long way to drive from Philly, but we'll be back! read more

While staying in Oxford, MD we decided to try this place out for dinner. I'm so glad we did because the experience was great. Firstly, the decor of the restaurant has a modern and eclectic feel without being stuffy at all. The uniquely tiled floor caught my eye immediately and I thought that the decorations were perfectly executed. On a Friday night the dining room was full of patrons. There were 3 people working and they did a good job of making sure each table had what they needed. Many of the other patrons seemed to be regulars and had a great rapport with the staff. The beet salad was perfectly dressed and seasoned and the bread was phenomenal. I ordered the short rib with bleu cheese mashed potatoes and it was the perfect comfort food for a chilly spring evening. My husband had the duck which was seared to perfection. We did not indulge in dessert, but the coffee we enjoyed was freshly ground and made to order. Our server Sarah was so sweet and personable. This place is a hidden gem and I definitely recommend stopping by. But definitely try to make reservations as it does fill up quickly! read more

The food is good, very good for the Eastern Shore. Try the eggs benedict and shrimp and grits. The restaurant is well decorated, light, and pleasant. It's in the middle of nowhere but easy biking or driving distance from St. Michaels. However, careless service and poor inventory control drag it down. When I came in, I had to stand around for several minutes without even being greeted, even though a server was visible behind the bar. After I got a table, the person who filled our water glasses didn't bother to say hello either. I ordered tea. The server got my order wrong, and when she delivered it, only then informed me that they had no milk. There seem to be some serious inventory problems here: no sausage even at the very beginning of a brunch service, and even though the place has a page-long tea menu, no milk at all! I would expect, at minimum, skim milk, 2%, half and half, and soy milk. There's no excuse for having none. Also, make sure servers understand that, if you're missing a key ingredient, you tell the guest sooner rather than later--and a bad first impression is hard to overcome. read more

Very cool restaurant. We visited on a a Tuesday night, and surprisingly it was pretty busy. Another plus was that it was half price wine night. We started with Caesar salad and local vegetables, which were fresh and crispy. Two of us ordered the blackened scallops, which were very spicy and delicious. My husband ordered the wild salmon special, very good and came with outstanding potatoes. Finished off with yummy peach ice cream. Will definitely return. read more

I wanted a dinner at the T before leaving the country for several months. It has been my favorite restaurant near St. Michaels ever since it opened. It would be impossible to describe how disappointed we were in slow service and food barely fit for consumption. We waited some time before we were asked for our order and the main course did not arrive until an hour a a half later. Shrimp was undercooked with inedible grits and the steak was covered with an over rich, sweet sauce. The potatoes and asparagus might have been cooked three days before, or they were weeks beyond sales date. This experience will not be repeated when I return from vacation because I will not be going back ever again. I have crossed the T off my list forever. Very sad about this!!! read more

I have to preface that this is written from a vegetarian/ vegan point of view. I had dinner there last night with my wife; butternut squash soup was delicious, really good, although the portion wasn't all that large. Salad was overpriced and a small serving for what it was. I asked for a side order of grilled root vegetables and was brought something else which looked like a grilled small salad. We weren't offered bread; I understand we would not have eaten it with butter but olive oil could have been easily substituted. Wine selection was good although pricey. read more

The appetizer, the cheese board, was probably the best thing on the meal, although for the life of me I couldn't figure out why they peppered apple slices. The salad was pretty basic, although I will say it was dressed perfectly. Then the entrees were served. The pasta was so incredibly salty that I am still tasting it the next day. I ate about 2 bites of pasta and I was done. It was odd because it was only the pasta, not the vegetables. So I picked around the pasta to eat the vegetables. My partner ate the pasta as he was really hungry after a long bike ride earlier in the day, but even he said it was oversalted. He said his rockfish was ok, but very peppery. He's a big dessert fan so got the nutella/banana bread pudding. It was ok at best. Let me say our waiter was great. Young guy, very attentive and helpful. If I could give him 5 stars I would. They did a nice job with decor. But it is VERY noisy place. The floors are marble and the ceiling looked like tin. No where for the sound to go. So don't plan on having an intimate conversation. I had really hoped to like this place. We really like to support new, local restaurants. But we won't be going back. It was way too expensive for not being able to enjoy the food.
