Nice restaurant in The Peabody. Had the veal Marsala. It was flavorful, but sweet, which was surprising. I would not order it again.

The staff seemed really nice but not too prepared for us as we had our 17 month old daughter with us. We were placed at a booth which was set up very nicely with all the glasses you could possibly want for wine and water, along with plate for 4 people. We finally had to ask them to remove some of the extra glasses so our daughter wouldn't break anything. She's not that bad but one wrong move and we would have been covered with broken glass as the whole table was covered with place settings. They brought us a high chair like you would expect to have at home but of course our daughter didn't want to sit in it as it was so much higher than we were. She did get colors which was great as this helped entertain her for a short time but in the end she was on our laps which was the main reason we were shocked they never removed any extra place settings. My husband ordered a bottle of wine which he said was the best part of his meal. I have to say mine was the bread they brought at first, which really wasn't that special. Our FOOD: A variety of breads are served with soft butter while you look at the menu. Breads were ok. The sourdough had a nice strong flavor. I saw others had what looked like olives in their breads when we were leaving but sadly we didn't get a sample of that one. My daughter loved the crispy bread sticks. LOBSTER SHRIMP BISQUE...my husband said the bisque tasted burnt. They brought the bowl out wiht the lobster and shrimp in the middle and used a gravy bowl to bring the bisque part and poured it in front of him. He said it would have been better to not do that due to the small portion of lobster in the middle of the bowl. TAGLIOLINI PESCATORE...my husband wasn't impressed but our daughter loved to check out the mussel shells. Shrimp, Crab,Clams, Mussels, Calamari, Sweet Pepper, Capers, Olives, Tomato in Wine, Lemon Butter Sauce $27 CHICKEN PARMESAN--Chicken was very salty, huge chunks of tomatoes in pasta (I guess they were going for the rustic look) About 1/2 inch of sauce between chicken and cheese....very bland tasting besides the saltiness. I had my husband try it and he wasn't impressed. Of course my 17 month old loved the bland pasta. Over all it so was not worth the $27 and I have no reason to ever try this place again if their basic marinara sauce was so bland. I just don't understand what happened. Capriccio used to be so good, but it has really gone downhill. The food: it's real hit and miss. A side will be good, but to main meal is really bland. My wife put it best: "it reminds me of school cafeteria food." The space: it located in The Peabody and while they have really done well with upgrading the decor, the grill looks the same it has for at least the 10 years I've been here. It's VERY dated and will remind you of an older Olive Garden. The service: pretty bad. Besides getting the order wrong, I couldn't get anyone to clear our table. I had to start stacking dishes on a ledge next to our table so we could eat. Overall: it's safe but expensive. Uninspired and bland from the food to the atmosphere. Hotels have to really up their game lately, so I can see the Capriccio going away someday soon. read more

Adjusted rating on 2/24 - the hotel and restaurant reached out to discuss the experience and was incredibly sincere and apologetic. They comped our meal, and went out of their way to address their shortcomings. It was a classy move... Previous review: Awful service - all around. Ordered off the menu versus buffet - yogurt. After 40 minutes, I finally saw my server who then remedied it. 40 minutes for a dish that requires no cooking. No other servers will look your way after seeing that I was in need and looking around for help. I witnessed 3 other tables venting the same frustration with one couple walking out. Seriously?!? I decided to try this restaurant because of Downtown Dining Week 2015. I'm so pleased with my decision! I made reservations prior to my visit and when I arrived, I was seated promptly. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. The quality of the food was absolutely stellar! I had Minestrone for a starter, Lobster Ravioli for an entree, and a light cheesecake for dessert. The food was so delicious! The atmosphere was upscale yet not stuffy. All of the waitstaff was very professional and friendly. I will certainly return and I strongly encourage others to give this restaurant a try. read more

Second time here and it didn't disappoint. Amazing food and service. The tortellini is really good. And the cavatelli bean and vegetable pasta is amazing. Their sangrias are good too. One of my favorite places. It's pricey but worth it for special occasions. It's good for families and date nights. read more

STAY AWAY. HORRIBLE. TERRIBLE. In a word.....SLOW. we came in and waited over an hour for breakfast and had to leave for the BBQ FESTIVAL before our food even came out. There were dirty tables everywhere and the service hinged on one or two waiters for the whole place. Management is obviously taking a nap here and maybe the hotel can make it work but as of now stay away from this nightmare. Update... the manager Lucky Alam appeared as we were leaving and apologized for the long wait and dirty area. But we had less than 5 minutes to eat a wasted breakfast making us late. Not to be snobbish, but the one star bad reviews based solely on the price of the items is pretty ridiculous. You're at the Peabody in one of the nicest hotels in Memphis; of corse you are going to pay a price premium. That being said, we did end up having a 50 dollar lunch (but we tipped 10 dollars because of the excellent service). Lunch: half a Reuben sand which with a salad and a cup of hot tea. The meat on the Reuben was very chewy and I couldn't cut my half sandwich in half without it going everywhere. They did pile it with meat and the bread was nice and toasty, served with lettuce, onion, tomato, and a pickle all on the side. The salad was actually an unlimited amount of trips through the salad bar. Salad bar: Incredibly clean and wonderfully fresh. Lots of veggies to choose from and a really amazing tuna salad. The salad bar was by far my favorite. Hot tea: The server brought out a tea basket of different assortments of flavors to choose from. Also came with a very cute bottle of honey. The hot tea was delicious! My lunch guest had the full ham and cheese sandwich plus a trip through the salad bar. His sand-which was big and came with fries. He very much enjoyed because it was all gone!! The service is what blew me away. They were wonderful and recommended dishes and asked about our day. Very prompt yet not too clingy. Located inside the Peabody Hotel its a good place for lunch meetings. Very quiet but that could mean that its not very busy? The portions were good sized and the service was attentive. I had the chopped salad with side of grilled chicken - the salad was better than the grilled chicken. I had started with the gumbo bowl and that was much better. The food at this restaurant was mediocre at best. The sea bass was rubbery and fishy tasting. The spaghetti was no better than Chef boyardee. Brussel sprouts had zero seasoning (not even salt). We were not impressed with any of the six meals that we ordered. Our female waitress talked to us like we were a bother to her. She did get a little better as the night went on, but the mood had already been set. It was not our fault that she had a big party in the back. We were very disappointed that a Peabody restaurant had such poor tasting food. I do not mind spending more money to get good food, but almost 400. 00 was ridiculous for the quality of this food. One of my dining mates wanted to go to a 'fine' restaurant in Memphis. I'm not sure what made him select this place. It wasn't bad, really, but for a 'fine' dining experience, it wasn't that unusual or good. I had lamb chops; nicely grilled but one of the three was almost raw. The asparagus that cam with it was nice but a little too much butter. My dining mates had pizza and pasta. They seemed to like it. They have a decent wine list with an okay selection of wines by the glass. The surroundings are pleasant but nothing out of the ordinary. All in all, not a place I would go out of the way for, but if you are at the Peabody and don't want to head out too far, and don't want soul food or barbecue, this is the place for you. read more

I had dinner here this evening and had 8 oz filet with a side of 3 cheese risotto and it was spectacular. Steak cooked to perfection. Service by Josh was spot-on and his recommendation for cabernet was delicious (a Memphis in May choice.) Honestly, I wouldn't have changed one thing. Excellent. Y'all need to try this place! My husband surprised me for Valentine's, and scored us a table on Valentine's night! We had the special of the night, which consisted of a scrumptious Arugula, Beet, Goat Cheese , Raspberry and BlackBerry salad! The entrée consisted of a beautifully plated well done Filet Mignon, Large succulent Shrimp Kabob and delicious Mash Potato! The Dessert was a decadent Raspberry Sorbet covered in dark chocolate with cute Heart shaped sugar cookies served in a Martini glass, along with an assortment of tiny desserts! The hostess who sat us did not offer a high hair or ask the waiter to bring us a highchair. For the price of the food I expect better service. We stayed at the Peabody and got the breakfast buffet package. The restaurant is nice looking and service very good. And the coffee is excellent. They serve French pressed coffee and I love strong coffee. But the breakfast buffet itself was very uninspired. A mid-range hotel would offer far better selections. I expected better from a grand old hotel like the Peabody. Disappointing. Don't eat the buffet. Maybe order from the menu and it is likely to be better (we enjoyed the room service selections). Or go across the street to the Hilton coffeeshop and they have a terrific breakfast selection at very affordable prices. read more

We visited on Christmas day. We were seated promptly in a nice location for our group size. Three of us ordered the holiday set menu and the others ordered off the regular menu. Service was very professional but a bit slow. The food was very good overall, but the set menu main courses were lukewarm when they arrived - probable victims of that slower service I mentioned. My two daughters liked what they ordered off the regular menu: a house salad and a steak. One very noteworthy item was the tomato pesto served with the bread - it was outstanding. I'm still so upset with me and my husbands experience at the Capriccio Grill. We flew in from New Orleans for New Years in Memphis. We'd saved up money and wanted to treat ourself with a fancy dinner for once (we never went on a honeymoon six months earlier, so this was very special for us). We'd booked a table and arrived on time, we decided to go for the NYE special which was a four course meal including tickets to The Peabody's party. What a mistake. Firstly the restaurant had 5 tables that were busy, so no you can't blame service on short on staff or too busy. Our waitress seemed inattentive and rude, we weren't given the bread basket meanwhile our older neighbors were, we definitely lowered the age by 20 years or so but shouldn't be treated differently because we're in our mid to late 20s. When my husband asked for the bread it finally happened to arrive. We both ordered a cocktail that was worth the pricing but we're never, I repeat NEVER asked for if we would've wanted a second round or anything else to drink for that matter. Not even a refill of our water, I specifically asked for a wine menu twice and we're both times given a cocktail menu. As the starter arrives which was a French onion soup in a cup, a measuring cup, both me and my husband get our hopes up it was fairly tasty, however how can one make a French onion soup taste bad. Before we were half way through the soup our wedge gem salad arrived and it was a wedge of iceberg salad with ranch and bacon crumbles, nothing particular in other words. In less than 5 mins our steaks reach our table, we both eat steak once given the chance and ordered medium rare as always. I've had plenty of steak in my life and this was not medium rare. We weren't assigned with proper steak knife and my husband describes the knife as a butter knife. Our waitress is not to be found and no other waiter is walking around as far as what we could see. After finally being able to cut through the steak it's raw. It's completely cold, not rested and blood is all over. Y plate and his as well. Some sort of manager whom doesn't present himself walks up, clearly sees our frustration (at this point I'm about to walk out and head to mcdonalds tbh) he then asks "is everything okay". NO! My steak is moving, we don't have a proper knife, it's cold. He takes them both back, gives us a new plate since it was cleaned from blood and I had an extra asparagus (how thoughtful) and it's the same freaking steak that they flipped three four times on the table. My husband is furious at this moment and so am I, our special dinner is destroyed thanks to this restaurant. All of a sudden they come out with our check and desert, not a word. I've never felt this disrespected in my entire life. I've been working in the service industry for several years and this is not okay at all! The desert was pretty but nothing special, way too sweet and not balanced at all. How much was this then you may think? At the website it said $115 / person. So I decided to count with a maximum of $300 total including tips and drinks. 2 x 4 course meal à $115 Tax Tip 2 cocktails = $336 No way, we sat down ready to talk to a manager or whoever would want to walk by. No one did for over 10 minutes. My husband wrote something on the check note and I've no clue what. We left our $300 cash and have told EVERYONE about this awful experience. My team and I recently attended Capriccio for a department holiday lunch. I remember this place being a nice steak house..... my how things have changed. I don't recall even seeing a steak on the lunch menu. Where do I begin... For starters (Value)... this place is about as far as you can get from the concept. Every single lunch item was drastically overpriced and under portioned. When building your own pasta becomes the consensus for the table,.... you should probably just close your doors. Maybe its the expensive real estate of being in the Peabody that leads them to charge outrageous prices... I don't know. I hate that visitors to our town are lead to think this is remotely considered good option for dining. By the way, the build a pasta, comes with "A" trip to the salad bar. I have never seen that before.... except for at Danvers. It's a bit harsh as I would much rather have eaten at Danvers and unfair to put them in the same sub par category as Capriccio. This salad bar, is more like a counter with a 2 bowls of lettuce (Romaine / Spring Mix) and 3-4 dressings (out of a tub) and 5-6 toppings (stored in little glass bowls) - none of which is kept cool or refrigerated. Don't want to forget the tuna salad or vegetable medley... on your 1 trip. The rest of my team ended up with the pasta bowl and added just about every ingredient they had listed as an option. This $16-17 pasta bowl came out looking like a child's portion for $1.99 at Fazzoli's. Big fancy bowl, but that's what it was... all plate and no food. At least we had our bread basket that was never refilled. Not wanting pasta, I decided to order the brisket. After all, it was a favorite on the menu. It was a DISASTER. This poor excuse for a piece of meat was put in front of me. I got 2 miserly slices of the fattiest brisket I've ever been served in a restaurant. The ratio was about 60/40 "fat". The parts I did eat, tasted like reheated brisket that was cooked earlier in the week and pre-sliced and refrigerated. It was then reheated via microwave and covered with some sort of cold tomato sauce. DISGUSTING! This is probably the most disappointing dining experience of 2017. Forget it. Very nice place in a very nice complex of shops and hotel but totally a mask to cover the 2 star kitchen and service. Maybe just my experience? I got a Chicken Parmigiana and the waitress looked at me like "Veeeery good chooice, our specialty here" . The chicken comes raw. Yes, i cut the cutlet and is pink. I asked also for no mozzarella and still is overwhelming covered. The Pasta and the marinara sauce, forget it. Entire meal is tasteless and for 24,95$ . Nice thing about. Giving this place 2 stars only because the food was decent. Absolutely terrible service. When you are spending $200 on a meal you would expect to have an attentive waitstaff. Our waitress never cleaned the table, never refilled drinks and would walk by saying "ill be back" , which would be 15-20 minutes later! Now, I could be understanding if they were busy, but the place was practically empty! I ordered a martini and I will say the first one was great. The second one I couldn't even finish as it had some sort of curdling mess in it. The sides were good which is why I give this place 2 stars. He only filled one glass of water, there were 4 of us and then walked away and didn't come back with water. We had to ask another gentleman for water. OMG!! My friend and I recently visited this cozy spot for lunch. When I tell you I was torn between the chicken and waffles and 2 other plates. She recommended I try the chicken and tuna salad, so I did just that. I ordered the soup and salad bar and it was the best choice I could've made.
