So sad to say I think they changed either ownership, chef, or recipe in the past year because it did not taste the same at all as the past maybe almost 20 years that I have been eating here. I had heard that the original owners wanted to retire and sell as of last year (don't quote me on that though), and that they would just sell once someone bought them out. But the soup just did not have that authentic essence last time we went. I hope it was a one off, but something definitely changed. It had always been perfect and satisfying, reminding me of HK, but this last time was the first time I have ever not had that feeling when eating the food. Wanted to check out a small chinatown business. Saw that it was empty and decided to check it out. Small family owned restaurant where they have their child hanging out jn the back space. Cute. The person handling our over was very friendly and all smiles. It was very welcoming. Service was fast and food was yummy. I got the fish ball noodles with a side of char siu. I've been coming to Canton Wanton since 1991 when I came to UW as an international student from Southeast Asia. Over the decades, I've brought many friends and visitors to our favorite noodle place for comfort food whether it's beef brisket wide egg noodles dry OR sui gau soup noodles thin. My husband and kids all consider it to be our favorite noodle place in the greater Puget Sound. That's why I was sad to see new owners when I went for lunch today. The chef and his family that I had come to know over the years had sold their business to different owners. While the new owners are sweet and eager to serve, the portion of beef in my beef brisket noodles was small which made the overall taste not the same bc the ratio of noodles to beef was off. All right, so first off, this place is borderline dumpy with no frills, but the FLAVOR and prices are amazing! It is also centrally located in the district and easy to get to. The service was quick and seamless. We didn't order much because we felt iffy about the place and just wanted to get our toes wet. The flavor will bring us back. I can see this being a comfort soup or noodle place for me, especially after a long day of airport travel and coming back into the city. Came by on a Saturday around 1 pm. It is a low key place, and there were only two other groups seated. A waitress immediately saw me and told me to sit anywhere I want. Brought me a menu and water and chopsticks and a soup spoon very quickly. The sides of the table have QR codes so I placed my order. My food came out maybe 10 min later. First the donuts came out which were extremely fresh, hot and fluffy. The congee came out a few min later, and again, very fresh! I added soy sauce and some of the chili sauce that was at the table, which the restaurant had plenty of options for. The food was extremely good, very filling, and overall a fantastic price. As I was also sad to see the previous owners go, I'm thankful for the new owners who risked keeping this place open despite the challenges for small businesses esp in Seattle. Finally made it to Canton Wonton House on a cold Friday evening, and it was the perfect place to be! This is a local family-owned business, with the kids hanging out in the back. My husband and I ordered a sui-kau & beef noodle soup as well as a sui-kau & bbq pork. At the very last minute, I decided to order the hot soy bean milk because it piqued my interest and MY GOODNESS the soy bean milk is hands down the best thing I've drank ALL YEAR!!! It tasted so fresh, with the most delicate soy flavor (it's nothing like regular grocery store soy milk--don't even put these two in the same sentence!), and was absolute perfection. The best and tastiest drink ever aside, the soups were also delicious, with broth that was plenty flavorful on its own. We both quite enjoyed the sui-kau, having never had it before. I love when I can taste individual ingredients in dumplings, and these certainly checked that box. Noodles were perfectly cooked with the right texture as well. We'll be back to try more of their menu (wontons are next!), and of course, more of the hot soy bean milk that changed my life. read more

Highly recommend Canton Wonton House if you're looking for a hearty bowl of classic wonton soup. Came in on a cold and rainy day and the broth just hit. Super flavorful with lots of noodles. Small no-frills Cantonese wonton noodle place in Chinatown. Went there for a late lunch on a weekend afternoon, and there were a few people inside. Menu has the pretty typical Cantonese soup noodle and mixed items. Not a whole lot of appetizer choices. Got the large size wonton and BBQ pork (chashiu) soup noodles. The noodle has some bounce to them, but not too chewy. The wontons are the more traditional variety that are smaller and has pork and some shrimp. Everything tasted fine, but the amount of ingredients is low. I got four small wontons, four pieces of pork, and half a stalk of Shanghai bokchoy. The effects of inflation, I suppose. Overall it was alright, but there are better wonton noodle places in Chinatown. read more

I can't believe this place still here, this used to be the place I came for congee and wonton noodle soup back when I was in college. I was in the area and couldn't resist to try it for lunch. Ordered century egg and salted pork congee, fish congee and wonton and beef brisket noodle soup. Food was served quickly and as soon as I tasted it, I remember why I loved it so much. Congee and wonton noodle are top comfort food growing up and this place serves both as close as I remembered them. The flavor and texture is as good as it gets. I believe this is the second time I've been here. The first time was years ago and it was not memorable for me. My cousin loves wonton noodle so he tries to try it at different places any chance he gets. Sadly he was disappointed by the flavor. I also find the flavor lackluster. My aunt did like it because it had more shrimp than pork in the filling but she thought the soup was a bit too oily. We also tried congee with fish. I'm not normally a huge fan of fish. Canton Wonton House was a roadtrip lunch for us. We decided to try them because they offered sui kau (dumplings). Sui kau (Cantonese style dumplings) is something that has been discontinued in most Southern California restaurants. So, when my wife and I saw it on their menu, we had to try it. I ordered one sui kau noodle, and a sui kau noodle with beef tendon. The sui kau were filled with pork, shrimp and wood ear mushrooms. They were a little smaller than what we have tried recently in Vancouver and New York, but, they had both a good texture and taste. The tendons were also some of the smallest that I've seen. But, they were braised until tender. They were delicious in my bowl of noodles. The noodles were nice and al dente. It seemed like a mom and pop shop with the kids at the back table Service was good with the woman (mom) taking my order. Although the food did taste good, my wife does prefer bigger sui kau. Canton Noodle House was a good stop for me during the roadtrip and was another reason why I didn't have to stop at McDonalds. read more

With all the places in the ID/C-town, it was tough to decide what we wanted for lunch but wontons did fit our bill and was right in our wheelhouse. We walked passed this spot, there's not much of a sign or very noticeable, so just look for the address or fluorescent lighting. Pretty simple menu but a good amount of choices for noodle soup bowls or noodles without soup, congee and some other stuff I didn't bother to look at. I decided to get #27: Wonton & Bbq Pork Noodle Soup. It was pretty darn good, the wontons are definitely made in-house and very good, the skin is just thin enough and the meat stuffing was quite flavorful. Comes with some tasty noodles and some pieces of bok choy. Bbq pork was tasty and seemed fresh and not dry. We also got the #28: Sui-Kau & Bbq Pork Noodle soup. Very similar to my bowl and the sui-kau was also made in-house and tasty. All the other stuff in the bowl was the same as well. Lunch was good, very home style mom & pop feel, nothing fancy about it, about $9 for a regular sized bowl. Staff was ok, only one gal working the entire room, a little slow but nothing ridiculous. I heard the cook/owner yelling at her to stop playing with her phone, maybe that's why. THE BIG: The Chinese version of pho with customizable noodles! THE BLACK AND WHITE: The roomie and I came here on a cold Seattle night, right before closing. We were immediately seated and handed menus. The menus are pretty expansive. We ultimately decided on the same selection: beef tendon soup. Upon order, we didn't realize that we could customize the noodles. The options were thin egg noodles, thick egg noodles, thin rice noodles, thick rice noodles, and lo mein. I opted for the thick egg noodles, while the roomie got the thin egg noodles. Eating the soup, it was flavorful and there was a heap serving of beef tendon that was masterfully steeped and tender. There was also a uniquely cut bok choy that looked like 1/6 of a regular bok choy, maybe to save on future bok choys?
