"I want a panini-make it so!" Such was my boyfriend's decree as we were meandering through Tiburon one Saturday. It was fate, then, that as we turned on to Main Street that we saw PANINI on the first building we drove past. Caffe Acri seemed cozy and inviting enough. Tried the veggie panini without eggplant and thE BF got the turkey. Efficient, though not necessarily friendly service. Odd question when we ordered was "would you like that grilled?" Isn't that the norm for a panini? Anyway, food arrived quickly, with decent portions, yummy crusty bread and generous slices of zucchini and peppers along with fresh mozzarella. It might have been nice to add a salad or some chips but there were extra charges for that. Baked goods looked amazing and we were tempted by the giant chocolate chip cookies, but refrained. This is, by far, one of the nicest coffee shops in Marin county. I absolutely enjoyed myself here. Very calm and relaxing coffee shop situated right off the bay with spectacular views of Tiburon, CA and of the bay area. I had the caramel macchiato with a double shot of expresso. It was very good. I also had a chance to taste the their hot chocolate and it was very good as well. If you happen to Cycling around the Paradise Loop / Tiburon. This is the place to chill out with other bikers as well as your ride along friends for a refreshment break. The food is so-so, but the price is a little over average. I guess it is because of the location of the café, it is right at a very busy street at the corner, can't miss it. Plenty of space for bike parking and outdoor seating has a great view as well. Overall, great experience about their service and the seating area is clean and comfort. Took it to the counter and the exceptionally rude girl looked annoyed, asked what I wanted her to do about it and when I said, "get my money back", she rudely gave me the money with change, 10 cents of it being pennies (I paid with a 5 dollar bill). I just walked down here from the lodge. It's COVID style right meow so I ordered to go. I got the bagel and salmon, sausage burrito, yogurt parfait, and a side of eggs and bacon...I was sharing with family. This place is bomb. The bagel was toasted like a panini probably one of the best I've had. I'm not a food scientist or anything but I am pretty chubs and I could say with a high level of certainty that it was in my top 5 bagels Evers. I didn't really intend on coming to the cafe, but after missing the Angel Island Ferry there aren't too many options to kill time around the area til the next boat heads out. Since it was pretty warm it felt almost right to just go right for the gelato. There were other pastries and sandwiches but wasn't in the mood to kill a hiking mood with a full meal. By the cashier, they were promoting the deal of the day: soup and grilled cheese sandwich for a set price, but when ringing us up, it was definitely overcharged. Love my neighborhood coffee shop, and I would love to give them a better Yelp- but every time I go in there they get my order wrong. Today I very clearly ordered "sugar free" in my drink and right in front of me, the gal takes the regular flavoring and puts in right into my drink? Staff is friendly and provides food service BUT ownership is getting cheap. Even though we order food at counter, I still usually tip 20% For years we walk to the place and order breakfast, usually one of the items is a granola fruit parfait in bowl. Big surprise today, on Mothers Day, they charge same as always, but provide a bowl 1/2 the size as before. Suggest those of us who are regulars, consider other breakfast options. Finest piece of boardwalk real estate ever for a coffee shop, it's a postcard's dream here in Tiburon. To make a tourist trip to Tiburon complete, it's always ended here at "Caffe Acri" for us. But that's not just because of its gorgeous eye-catching qualities. It's because the HOT CHOCOLATE and LATTES are from the ground up stupendous, and time after time, always served with integrity and dependability. They warm the frosted mouth and belly. Caffe Acri is one out of maybe ten spots to get food on Main Street, and of those, probably the only cafe where you can get a quick sandwich, pastry or coffee. It's okay for what it is, and probably the only great thing about it is that it's got a nice front patio seating area - perfect for those sunny Tiburon days. It definitely has a European feel to it. I had an early evening grilled ham and cheese croissant and oatmeal raisin cookie, and J-To had lots of oats and granola with a fruit and yogurt parfait - not the other way around. There was so much granola that she really had to did through to get to the good stuff. So, our early evening snack was more of a breakfast, but it held us over until our late evening dinner. It's not really a spot to get anything substantial for dinner, just something light and quick. Pass on the cookies - mine was hard, not chewy like an oatmeal raisin cookie should be. We noticed that they were setting up a small wine tasting at the counter for later on. Main Street in Tiburon is a soft refection of what the good ol' days looked like. Thin streets, quaint shops, and a warm inviting feel. I was at Cafe Acri for a business meeting and I must say, just driving out here is pleasant. Driving along the coastline of Marin into this sleepy mid week town is soothing. ( Definitely a different story on the weekends when visiting Sam's) Cafe Acri has a nice selection of breakfast items, the staff is friendly and it's a place where everyone truly does know everyone. Sitting at the very head of Main Street, it's a gathering spot for morning dog walkers, late morning snacks and a nice cup of coffee. While distinctly Tiburon, the modern accents makes for a great combo. I'm personally not a coffee drinker, but I didn't mind coming here for a business meeting. read more

Cyclists are a nuisance? No longer giving business to Cafe Acri. Reposted from fellow cyclist....In the past, Cafe Acri management has been very welcoming to cyclists. They used to put out a big dispenser of water for us to fill our water bottles after we had a meal there. But no longer... About 70 or so riders who stopped there either got a quick coffee and pastry, or ate brunch spending an average of about $12 at Cafe Acri. (No, it aint cheap!) When asked if they could get some more water for their bottles, they were told to fill their bottles in the bathroom. Uh hello? We just spent money here and ate here.... we are paying customers? Speaking to the manager, Marie. she responded, "oh no we will not do that anymore, if you want water you should fill them in the bathroom.". I pointed out that if I spent an average of $11 on Saturday and another $11 on Sunday the least I should be able to get is water for my bottle. She said, "no, that would be almost 100 gallons of water that we would have to give away". I pointed out that it would be for those who come in to eat, and she said "no then we would have to do that for everybody". She went on to say that during the weekends, there are so many cyclists that the locals stay away (huh? Tiburon- TOURIST DESTINATION? ) and that no one likes to come into town because there are so many of "us" in the cafe and it changes the ambience of the cafe for the whole weekend. We park our bikes all over and take up all of the seats, and the locals don't like to come to the cafe. I pointed out that we were all paying customers, and she all she said was "yes I know". I short, the gist of the conversation was that the cyclists on the weekends were nuisance. That's right folks, you paying customers with your bikes are a nuisance. (now come in wearing street clothes and it might be different!) WOW. I then asked, "ok, shall I NOT bring the cyclists here then??" and of course she said, "oh no of course we want your business, but we are not going to give out water, (even if you are a paying customer) because then we'd have to monitor everyone. We have made lots of changes here since I came on. Our service used to be horrible and take long and we have made changes to make our serving faster, like bringing in pannini grills, and stuff like that"... As you can imagine, I will be looking for another location to bring cyclists to as a stop on the Tiburon (aka Paradise) Loop. read more

How much is $1 worth to a business? For Caffe Acri, losing a patron's business forever and getting a poor yelp review is worth saving $1. I've been to Caffe Acri many times. Not because I liked it--the coffee is mediocre and the one time I had lunch there, my sandwich was so stale that it made my stomach turn. No, I've been there many times because the location is convenient (right at the end of the Tiburon bike trail before returning to Blackie's pasture and at a nice place to stop while showing tourists around). But like so many places in ideal locations for tourist stops, Caffe Acri believes that rude service and poor food is acceptable. I visited Caffe Acri for the last time today. I ordered two lattes. I waited for them, then went outside to bring out cups of water. When I returned, what looked like two lattes were sitting on the counter. I didn't see anyone else waiting. I said, "Are these mine?" and thanked the barista. I then went to our table outside. Within a few minutes, the barista came outside and berated me for taking the wrong drinks. "I'm charging you for the difference," he ordered. When I said, "Are you kidding me?" he continued to yell and then stormed inside. Now, I've seen people accidentally take the wrong drinks at Starbucks about 500 times. The baristas apologize to the customers who don't get the correct order and make the order again. With no real loss to the company--we know these espresso drinks have about a 400% markup. I also worked for a time in food service while in college--if I learned anything, it was that you NEVER recharge a customer. Especially for a paltry $1. Not so well played, Caffe Acri. Next time I'm going to New Morning Cafe, about one block away. read more

What a wonderful spot for a café. What a wonderful décor and environment. What a disappointment time and time again. I don't think you can make a caffe any nicer that this spot. I truly mean it. Whoever built this place originally spent an absolute fortune on wood and marble. You can only wish the current management spent some money on some counter help as going there today there were 2 guys and 20 people waiting in line. So, once you get through the mess the disappointment continues as the quality of the espresso was meh, the sandwiches and pastries looked mehmeh and the place needed to be straightened up. Yet, the place sits at some a wonderful spot and some of the folks were just having a beer and what could be so bad or screwed up at the bottom of a bottle of beer. Hard to screw that up unless stale. Come on Caffe Acri, you think you are Cafe Rulli yet you are a far cri from that. read more

In all fairness the guy running the coffee/expresso machine at about 4:40pm Saturday 8/10 was probably having a bad day. But I asked this dude if I could please order a Café Au Lait, and points to his left and says tersely, "You pay over there first", I say fix your Italian or Spanish accent first then go to politeness school with that Italiana/Swiss bimbo who refused to show Oprah a hand bag because it was "too expensive" for her (how news imitates life). Whenever I ride the often-biked Paradise Loop route through Tiburon, this is the go-to place for a nice break. Its right on the water with outdoor seating as well as indoor seating when the weather is cold -- the perfect place to stop for a double expresso and some lunch. They have various panini's which are fresh and good, various desserts like pastries, bread pudding, granola with fruit, and my personal favorite the hazel nut brownie... mmmmmmm. For drinks they have fresh OJ, Vitamin Water, and other sorts of stuff. Oh yeah and they have fresh salads too, but I've never tried them... why would I want salad? I'm biking! The perfect place for a sunny, sunny day. Or even a cold, breezy day. The three gals that work there share a couple things in common: They are pretty sisters, and they are all quite pleasant and helpful. So what's not to like? Good food, friendly service... and a great place to stop in the early season when you're fat and out-of-shape. read more

The Marin is so popular with cyclist. One reason for a 40 mile bike ride to Paradise Loop is the stop at Tiburon. Yes! The Caffe has plenty of outdoor sitting. I felt a craving for coffee as we drove through Tiburon, known for their this-is-a-safe-quaint-town-full-of-locals feel. I thought, "What better place to try some really good coffee! The server was extremely nice about it, I know sometimes people can get annoyed with the over-sampling, but I just had to! I ended up getting 1 cup or 1/2 peanut butter fudge and 1/2 stracciatella. How Tiburon does Biker bar. Cycling Bicycling, that is, and rather than liquor there's cappuccino, croissants, sandwiches and amazing princess cake. I would give them three stars, but the princess cake earns then an extra star. This is THE spot for people to refuel and rest after, before or during a bike ride to Paradise loop. It's quaint, has good food, and you can sit out side and watch your bike. If you eat too much you can always hop on the ferry which picks up just behind the restaurant. PROS: great corner location in Tiburon; charming staff; nice, rare-for-Marin outside patio with (sometimes) direct sunlight; super yums cappuccinos; great tea selection; really good pastries CONS: most cooked food is fairly average; closes absurdly early, see below for discussion on this I've come to Caffe Acri since they opened. Frankly, there are no other cafes in Tiburon, and they're in a prime location, so that's fine. But now that I live in Tiburon and commute to San Francisco for work by ferry, one thing absolutely blows my mind: how can such a charming little cafe -- really, the only Euro-style cafe in Tiburon -- close so early?! To illustrate my point: the SF-Tiburon commuter ferries arrive at roughly 5:50pm and 6:50pm. I can't tell you how many times we've stepped off the ferry, on a beautiful warm spring or summer evening -- or for that matter, a cozy cold winter evening -- and wanted -- yearned! -- to step inside and grab a tea or glass of wine. Or those evenings after dinner when you just want to go sit amongst other people, like a cafe in Paris' famed Quartier Latin, to read a book... or perhaps even write your own! But no: no such luck for weary commuters. Must go straight home, or straight to dinner, and then straight to sleep, apparently. Interestingly -- and my impetus for writing this review now -- I worked from home today, and I've been here since 4pm; I'm currently writing this from Cafe Acri right now. It's now 6:30pm; and annoyingly, they've of course been closed since 6pm. It's just such a shame, that in charming little Tiburon, such a self-proclaimed "European town," we have literally nowhere to grab a tea, coffee, or glass of wine, unless we venture into one of the (few) full restaurants. To not have a cafe that remains open into the evening is absolutely antithetical to the very essence of what defines a "European town." I understand if they closed at, say, 9pm -- nobody stays awake past 9pm in Tibs! -- but at least don't close at the absurdly early hour of 6 or 7!! The coffee is bad, the food is inconsistent (and overpriced) and the service has recently taken a sharp turn for the worse. For years this place has benefited from the hundreds of cyclists that pedal through Tiburon on a weekly basis. In exchange, it always provided water for the cyclists who were paying customers. Recently, cyclists have been advised that Caffe Acri does not want to provide water for the cyclists because cyclists "change the ambiance" of the cafe. Sure -- the cafe will take our money -- but it won't provide water for its paying customers. I say forget this place. There are plenty of other places in the same vicinity. Came in with my husband for a quick breakfast before heading up to Napa. The coffee was delicious and there were lots of fresh and healthy options. We ordered the breakfast burrito and croissant sandwich and the portions were perfect. A corner cafe on Main Street that is pretty hard to ignore with the number of people lounging on the patio, and the hoardes of bicycles propped up out front. While the cafe is spacious indoor, the real beauty lies in relaxing on the patio on a gorgeous day. We were there around lunch and tried a panini, which I definitely wouldn't recommend in the future. Not only was it fairly tasteless, but it wasn't really warmed/grilled correctly either, and just didn't seem super fresh to begin with. Tried this place again, figured they deserved a second chance. Nope. Very bad service, very rude and can't be bothered. I ordered 2 mochas and a croissant to go. Out of regular croissants, only had ham & cheese. So, I opted for a danish. Both coffee orders were wrong, I stood at the pick up counter for 10 minutes waiting for wrong coffee....? The coffee here is incosistent. Almost as if it varies with the weather, though you can seat in/outdoor and if the weather is sunny, which is usually nice or walk over to the green area where the (small) ferry is. Although the spot is great for post-bike rides or drive-by coffee break, I have also seen a cute vespa club stop here and get coffee. That is the only thing I've tried here. I enjoy the location I just wish the coffee was a bit (LOT) better. It is owned by the same people from Servino's, which is near it. UPDATE - The coffee here is horrid. This corner in Tiburon is a mecca for cyclists and a very touristy spot. It's within shouting distance of the ferry. I expect big prices in this town and my croissant with ham and cheese, latte coffee, and soda water came to $15. The croissant was Pannini grilled really flat but quite delicious. The coffee was excellent. These guys were working hard and despite the pace, the service was very friendly . Expensive town but a good corner spot to refresh yourself and watch people. read more
