I am so furious!! We USED to eat here often, my family too. Never again! I made a reservation 10 days ago for 10 people I called today to change it to 11 people, they changed it with no problem. A few hours later the manager called to cancel it because he said they have 2 parties of 30 coming in. Today is Thursday, this reservation was for Saturday for my son's communion! Let me start by saying we haven't been there in a couple of years, but we always enjoyed the food and service. Sadly ,this was not the case yesterday. We decided to stop in for their Wednesday night special. Their website says for $17.95 you get an entree, salad, pasta ,coffee and desert, which sounded good. First when we got there, the hostess seemed a bit overwhelmed, so she had the busboy take us as he set up our table, no biggie. The kid got us some water and menus right away. We looked at the menu and didn't see the previous mentioned special. What we got was a special chef menu along with the regular menu. Well this chefs menu had the entree's I saw on line but the pasta, salad ,desert and coffee were ala carte. So these were $3/4 a piece, with all entree's priced at $13, now the price would be $22/25 altogether instead of $17.95. Well we wanted to ask why the difference in price, but we did not see a waitress for the 15 minutes we were there. So we had a bad taste in our mouth with the prices advertised versus the menu prices, so we left. A previous poster mentioned this happened to him and was told those are the old prices online, but they would not adjust the price. This is not good business, it gives the impression of bait and switch. Let me say it looked like there was only one waitress but we were not sure, because we saw another girl but just for a minute. Keep in mind the place was only half full, we and one other couple were the only ones in the front section at 6:30. I would not be surprised if they left also as they were looking around when we left. Whatever the are paying that busboy, it is not enough. That kid was running his ass off trying to make up for the place eibeing understaffed or the less then enthusiastic coworkers. I've always liked Cafe Gio. We used to go there all the time. Great food! But I went there tonight and I was totally grossed out! At the pizza counter, they exchange the money directly over the pizza!!!! OMG I almost puked. I ordered a Buffalo slice. It looked really good. So the girl says $5.25 and I go to hand her the money and I realize that there is no way for me to hand her the money without exchanging it directly over a pizza pie!!! Only half the pizzas are covered by glass. The rest of them are sitting right there waiting for your pocket lint to drop right onto them. I almost cancelled my order but I figured what the heck, I've probably eaten worst things that I didn't know about. But this is a problem with a lot of pizzerias in our area. It's a health code violation! But for some reason, these shop owners think the health code only counts when the SCDHS inspector is in the house. As for the Buffalo chicken slice. It was good. Very tasty. Too much blue cheese dressing for my taste. They should put a less blue cheese dressing and replace it with crumbled blue cheese and it would be perfect. But overall the slice was pretty good. They really need to do something about the pizzas not being covered where the money is exchanged. It's gross! I really drives me crazy that the owner and everyone working there doesn't realize how disgusting this is. I won't be back unless they correct this. read more

Great pizza, reminds me of the Brooklyn pizza I grew up on. Staff is pleasant and helpful. Restaurant menu has a nice selection of classic Italian choices. Great tasting food and not to hard on the wallet. Have not tried it yet but have heard the Sunday sauce is to die for. Looking forward to trying the Sunday sauce soon. read more

Chicken night is a great deal and includes bread, a salad, a choice of about 15 different chicken entrees, pasta, coffee/tea, and dessert. All for under $15!! The portions are huge. The only complaint I have is that the chicken can be a bit tough at the end of the cutlets. I think that they need to do a better job of trimming the chicken and tenderizing it before cooking it, but knowing that, I just eat around it. As I said, the portion sizes are huge, so I can forgive that. Besides, with the amount of business and the quantity of chicken cutlets they must go through every Thursday night, I can understand when one or two pieces of chicken are a little fatty and tough on the edge... read more

Wanted to try a new place so I decided to give Cafe Gio a shot. BIG MISTAKE!!! The food arrived after an hour and 45 minutes ice cold. I googled mapped the distance and i am only 2 miles away. Don't order the soup unless you love progresso's pasta fagioli, they open a can there yah go. I placed an order here on Seamless. After about 20 minutes with no confirmation I called to see when I should pick up and was told that they don't use Seamless. I let them know that they were still listed on seamless and the guy on the phone basically said "yeah, I know but we don't use seamless or grub hub anymore." No apology, explanation, or even attempt to take my order on the phone. After I finally asked if they take phone orders he said yes, but at that point i was ready to order from somewhere else. I took a Realtor continuing education class on Sunrise Highway Saturday and had just 40 minutes to Yelp, travel, purchase and eat lunch. I choose Cafe Gio, due to its proximaty and reviews. Still a bit hung over from the previous nights revelry, I choose to eat hearty. I ordered an open faced grilled chicken sandwich with a huge slice of mozzerela cheese, and some greens. I don't remember the name of it, but it was OMG good. Didn't even need the side of vinegarette good. Like, did Paula eat that entire sandwich good? Yes, that good. I have loved Cafe Gio for years now. A hidden gem in a shopping center on the service road, I was super surprised at how fantastic it was the first time I went. Excellent Fried Calamari. The house dressing is TO DIE FOR, I really think they need to bottle it and sell it. My favorites: fried calamari, lobster ravioli, chicken danielle, chicken sophia among many others! I have been to this restaurant several times with my family but tonight will be our last. The baked clams were whole not chopped as promised - my pasta, which I shared with my mother, had cheese on it - after I explained to the waitress about 7 times that I am allergic to cheese AND they charged us a $5 share fee without letting us know in advance! I ordered two heroes from Cafe Gio about two months ago over the phone. I picked them up and brought them home. My girlfriends meatball parm hero had only ONE meatball on the one side of the hero! My veal parm hero had very little veal on my whole hero, so I was very annoyed that I got back into the car and drove back to complain. I showed both heroes to the guy behind the counter and he said "oh I guess a meatball fell off the one side of the hero and the cook didn't notice." BS! You could tell there never was a second meatball on the one side of the meatball parm hero. I said "I paid $24 on these. How can you honestly serve somebody an order like this?!"They gave me two new heroes, and said they were very sorry. So this past Saturday we decided to give them one more try. This time we decided to eat in the restaurant. We ordered baked clams and a loaf of garlic bread to start. Two baked clams were sandy, so they were not cleaned properly. The garlic bread was very dry. I had to ask the waitress for butter to put on it. I ordered my veal parm hero with lightly toasted bread with extra sauce. Mine came out with hardly any sauce on it so I had to ask for sauce on the side. My girlfriend ordered a meatball parm hero again, and she did not order her hero bread toasted. Hers came out with almost burnt hero bread. She didn't want to complain about it because she was afraid of them spitting in her food if she sent it back. She also ordered an espresso after our meal. It was $14 with liquor in it according to the bill!!! With tip it cost me $70, for crappy food. The only good thing was our waitress was pretty attentive. I just moved to the area only a few months ago but for awhile have been wanting to try Café Gio,Oh well! glad I finally tried last night.Decided to take mom out to dinner and everything turned out as expected,the Service was great .Mom s spinach pizza was quite tasty and my Chicken Pizza was really good.They also give you a lot of garlic knots which are also succulent.The only drawback at Café Gio is the wait but it is what it is.Will be taking my Cousin there next week for a Birthday lunch I cant wait to get her take on it. read more

Hit or miss, depending on what you are ordering. The designer slices are good if you are adventurous. The Shrimp is my favorite, but if you don't like grease, stay away! The Pizza for a New York pizza place, is not anywhere near noteworthiness, and it amazes me how forgiving Long Islanders can be about mediocre pizza. I order from there because it's ok and nearby, and for no other reason. The Calzones.... this is one of the few places I know of that 'deep fry' a Calzone (make sure you ask). There is nothing, and I mean nothing that can compare to a Calzone done this way. If they would only use a better Ricotta, this place would get a 10 from me for this dish. The restaurant is horrible, and a lot of cold cuts are used with their dishes, which of course is just not italian, but it is lazy when it comes to filling up a plate. The wine selection is really bad, and the quality of the dishes borderlines on cafeteria style. Don't have dinner here, go to some place nice. Do order a pizza here if you need it quick or don't know the area, but I would ask for extra cheese if you do. read more

This will be the last time dinning at Cafe Gio. My son ordered chicken parmigiana and the chicken had bones in it my lasagna looked like it was reheated the bottom of the food in the dish was cold. The manager never or staff did nothing to correct our issues. They then charged us for refills of soda 3.00 each the menu clearly stated one free refill per soft drink order the sixteen dollar pasta special for us were disappointing . We have enjoyed good dinners there before and will not return quality has gone down hill as of late. read more

This is my second review for the place.... I love their dinners and salads but their pizza is mediocre... I suspect this is because they put more TLC into their non pizza items. I used to have more love for their pizza but I have lost some of it. They really need to switch it up, it seems like a lot of their specialty slices are chicken related and believe it or not, not everyone likes chicken, some people like pulled pork or alla vodka or a basked ziti slice, c'mon Cafe Gio... do something different, you got it in you! I will say that when the white slice is available, get it, and their deep friend calzones are like heaven, yea it's deep fried, but it's a freakin calzone! It's so fattening to begin with, if you wanna stay fit and trim stick with their regular salad, it's amazing but alas.... it aint no deep friend calzone.... mmm mmm good. I do like their staff, we did have a huge issue with a gift card we had... long story short we were charged double and the guy couldn't fix it at the time so our gift card was almost used up because of this mistake but when we went again the next day someone else fixed it but seemed annoyed... it's almost like they expected us to just say " Whatever no biggie", it was a 9 dollar order that was charged for 18 on a 25 dollar gift card, so yea it was a big deal. The thing is... pizza places get busy and I notice a lot of the workers (in pizza places in general) are on edge a lot... it's a very hot kitchen and a lot of orders, I can see why they occasionally get a little annoyed or flustered... so that's why I am writing about the experience but not allowing it to affect this review. read more

My husband and I have given this place a few chances. I grew up going here moved away came back and gave it a try. The veal is chewy. The pizza is okay- the buffalo chicken is our favorite. I am writing this because I think the staff behind the counter is terrible and they judge customers based on their appearance. I asked for buffalo chicken pizza - I was told if I order three slices they can make me a half pie- two seconds later- the guy next to us says to a different counter person- I want a slice of buffalo chicken pizza - the counter person "no problem- I got you- 7 minutes" this is after I asked multiple times how long it would be and told I need to order half a pie. I asked for a side of sauce 4 times- no exaggeration- no sauce when I got home- instead as I'm getting my fountain drink- the kid behind the counter is swiping my card and worried about me signing. Very rude. Poor customer service. It seems that no one really cares. I guess they make enough money to lose customers. read more
