The last time I visited Cafe Dolce Vita was probably in 2007 before I left for college and subsequently moved to Boston. I'm not sure what ever became of the old owner and his wife, but they owned and ran Cafe Dolce Vita for decades - I recall when it was located in the plaza next door at 1966 Deer Park Avenue, and we used to go there when I was a student at DPHS. Let me tell you; I still think of their chicken marsala pizza, or their pinwheels. I knew pizza didn't have to be just plain cheese or pepperoni, but that a pizza could have chicken marsala on it was life-changing for me. If a pizza could have chicken marsala on it, why, it could have just about anything on it. I don't know if I'll ever get back to Deer Park someday, or if Cafe Dolce Vita will still be there when I do, but if it is I will absolutely be stopping in. All these haters don't know the half of Cafe Dolce Vita's story and status as one of the grand dames of pizza joints in Deer Park and the fact that some of these newer places crowding the town weren't even a glimmer in their owner's eye when Cafe Dolce Vita was already the older, established joint in town. So what if the old owner was a bit gruff. He made pizza so good I still remember it nearly twenty years later. And it looks like the place is still going strong. Don't let the flame die out! This place is in a small strip mall. next to a Shop Rite that I frequent. Though I haven't sampled all of their fare, what I have had is enough for me to rate it high! I will definitely be returning for more of their fare. Tale of the tape: Garlic Knots and Marinara Sauce Medium to large sized, they have a light texture and a light chew, with a decent enough garlic flavor to make you realize that you are indeed eating a garlic knot, and not a piece of pizza dough. The marinara sauce (that I had to ask for) was not that great, however - it was thin and not very flavorful. When paired with the knot, the two flavors together were decently complimentary. Creamed Spinach slice Crust is thin with a subtle yet good general flavor of its own - it doesn't just taste like flour and water. The creamed spinach, in a word, is great - I am very impressed! The spinach is finely chopped, is plentiful, and has just enough "creamed" component to give it a really good flavor. This is a very hearty slice! As if this weren't enough, there is a thin layer of really good mozzarella cheese under the spinach with a good pull and which gives it a little extra flavor boost. Serious folks, this has to be the best spinach slice I have ever had, and I will definitely purchase it again! Primavera slice A decent amount of sautéed vegetables, including broccoli, zucchini, carrots and spinach, all atop Vita's thin, crispy, light and flavorful crust. Another really good slice with vegetables that actually have flavor, unlike others I have tried. Rigatoni alla Vodka With a nice flavorful tang, it's very good. Excellent food. The dough is amazing, tender and crisp. We had one of each variety of the pinwheels and an egglplant roll. Great portions and a good value. My mother, who lives here, was in the mood for pizza and she passes this place every time she goes to Shop Rite but has never gone in. She loved the meal, especially the marinara sauce. One of THE BEST pizzerias I have ever been to. Unfortunately I moved to LA which is nearly impossible to find a decent slice... but any time I'm in NY I travel over to CDV and grab a ziti slice. They have so many other pizza options as well that are incredible. I can't even begin to explain how delicious the ziti slice is, I think about it 24/7. Highly, highly recommended. I can't remember the last time that I regretted eating a slice of pizza, until last night when I tried this place. The inside was inviting and clean so I took a seat and waited for my slice and eggplant roll. I should've known that the eggplant roll was going to be disappointing when I had to ask if it had eggplant inside. It had one little piece that I couldn't even taste because of all the bread and cheese that made up this over cooked brick. Next came the sloppy mess of a drooping slice and then came the stomach ache. It's not enjoyable when you try to make yourself throw up afterwards. They have many different kinds of pizza, probably more than I've seen elsewhere but the fact is they are very good but not great. The service is also very good and fast. Overall excellent experience. The staff was extraordinarily friendly, especially the gentleman who served us, Rocco. He wasn't hard on the eyes either . The food was superb. I ordered the Veal Dolce Vita, which was tender, flavorful, and bathed in a delicious sauce. It came with a pasta side. I chose rigatoni a la vodka, which might have been the best vodka sauce I've ever had. The grandma slices are exquisite as well, with a thin, crispy crust, and a delicious tomato sauce. The atmosphere of this pizzeria is just what I think it should be, relaxed for dining in, but still casual like pizzeria. Good good. The food is delicious and the menu is pretty large. I've had a lot of different things here and have really never been disappointed by any of it. Plus their pasta fagiole (yum) is some of the best I've ever had, even in fancy restaurants. This is my local go-to place for Italian take out. They have a wide variety of pizzas, all of which are delish. My kids especially love their pasta though. We know how picky kids can be with their food but with Café Dolce Vita's spaghetti with meat sauce, my kids can't get enough! And this is what keeps us coming back week after week. read more

I write this review a little torn. I have been going here for over 20 years. Pizza and chicken roll are great. When they use to be on the other side of the shopping center to where they are now and it probably will be my last time. I ordered a few slices and they told me I needed to wait for a fresh pie for a couple of my slices. No problem! Who says no to a fresh slice. As I was waiting another customer paying for their order accidentally pushed one of their pizza box off the counter she put down and it fell in the fresh pizza they just pulled out. Accidents happen and they were kind about it....they pull the box out the pie it has cheese stuck to it because it's a fresh pie....what happens next is what bothers me. They proceed to cut the pie into slices call me over and say my slices are ready. I looked at him and said I'm not taking that. A box that a customer handled with her hands fell in the pizza and then your giving it to me? The man says what do you want me to do about it? I looked at him like are you kidding? We are new to the area and were in desperate search for a good pizzeria. We were hesitant about trying this place b/c the prices are kind of steep but we gave it a shot anyway. This has become our favorite pizzeria. We will not order from any other place. Although the prices are steep ($30 for all specialty pies) it is totally worth it. So far we've had the following pies: buffalo chicken, spinach alfredo, chicken parmesan, chicken francese and the fresh mozzerella pie (which you HAVE to tell them to heat up otherwise they serve it cold). They are not cheap at all on the chicken or toppings- they LOAD them on. That's probably why they charge more than your usual pizzeria. If you're looking for a good pizzeria you have to try Cafe Dolce Vita! You won't be disappointed. read more

Their broccoli pizza is the best (lots of delicious garlic). We also love getting the Monday night pasta special. The only drawback is that they sometimes get the order wrong if you call in the order over the phone -- you have to speak really clearly and slowly, and make sure they repeat the order back to you. read more

THIS place has awesome pizza. The sauce is delicious and always fresh. If you ask for toppings you get huge amount which always means more bang for your buck. I have been ordering from here for years. Pizza is good; dinners are good. I ordered a pizza this evening and was told that there was a $20 min for delivery. I then had to order garlic knots bc the pizza was $18. I'm annoyed by this. I understand delivery minimums to prevent people from ordering a slice and having it delivered, but to not have an entire pizza pie delivered because you're two dollars under the minimum is ridiculous. This appears to be a new policy (perhaps) , but there are plenty of other pizza options nearby that are just as good. read more
