    Chicken Scarpello
    Frank M.

We have been here several times. The most recent was with my wife, children and extended family. For starters we had the fried calamari, then house salad with blue cheese dressing, both were very good. For mail course I had the Chicken Scarpello, this was great, highly recommend this dish. To wash it down I had water and wine, house wine was also very good. For dessert we shared several ones, but I had the tartufo, love this dessert. Terry our waiter was great, she was very efficient, polite and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant and will return.

Someone was wanting good Italian food so on a recommendation we went to Brunello Italian Kitchen. We had reservations and when we got there, the restaurant was not crowded and we were seated right away. The dining room was very nice , cozy but not small. We sat at a booth which could comfortably fit 6 people. The staff was not overly friendly or welcoming, but pleasant enough. We ordered drinks first and for appetizers we had the calamari which was very good. The portion was on the small size but the calamari was tender and the breading was nice and crunchy. I would definitely order it again. The other appetizer was a pretzel with a bunch of deliciousness on top. Cheese, artichokes, tomato, peppers and some different kinds of meats. It was giant! 4 of us probably ate around 1/2. I've never seen that anywhere else, I'm all for something unique. There was also the bread and the salad! At that point I was full. I didn't need anything else but we had already ordered our main courses. I had the Orecchiette with broccoli rabe minus the sausage. It was ok, the broccoli rabe lacked that bitter bite that I liked and it needed cheese and pepper but the cheese on the table wasn't great, I think i was looking for some freshly grated cheese and pepper but that did not appear. At the end of the dinner, we were offered a free after dinner drink that was made with peach schnapps, something sparkling and something else. It was very refreshing and nice of them to give us that little treat. By the time we left the dining room was nearly full. The food was good and the atmosphere was nice, there was nothing that I could say was amazing so I'm not sure I would come back unless the people I was with insisted but if you are looking for decent Italian food, definitely give it a try and order the calamari for sure!

    Chicken and Crabmeat Oreganata

My family took me here for my birthday over the weekend. They'd been here before and raved about it so they insisted on coming here, and I was NOT disappointed! It's a small restaurant so be sure to make a reservation, or be prepared to wait/get shut out. Nothing too spectacular about the inside but it's nice and clean, so no complaints. Our server was amazing, offering up advice on what to order and also providing some friendly conversation. Now to the food... it's delicious. Absolutely delicious. The pretzel antipasto is like a combination of a charcuterie board and a giant pretzel, and the flavors are perfect together. The calamari is as crispy as you would hope for it to be. And for the entrees, I ordered the Chicken and Crabmeat Oreganata which was very flavorful. Not as much crabmeat as I would've liked, but still enough that it complemented the chicken nicely. Plus you get a full-sized salad with (before) your entree which is a value that you can't beat.

The food/pasta taste very homemade and fresh salads. Big portions. Cannot finish my meal. The atmosphere is mom and pops with many locals who look like they've dined there forever and they appear like they are familiar with their neighbors. Love the service. Very warm touch to this restaurant and a close sense of community. I like the entire dining experience and was very happy. Authentic Italian dinner!

If you haven't been to Mama's Brick Oven Pizzeria & Restaurant at 30 Deer Shore Square in North…read moreBabylon, you're missing out on one of the South Shore's finest Italian dining experiences. Whether you're popping in for a quick slice or settling in for a full sit-down dinner, Mama's consistently delivers -- and then some. Let's start with the basics: the grandma pizza is exceptional. Thick, pillowy, perfectly crisped on the bottom with a rich, flavorful sauce -- it's everything a grandma pie should be. But don't stop there. The chicken parm hero is, without exaggeration, one of the best you'll find on Long Island. Generous, satisfying, and packed with flavor, it's the kind of sandwich that makes you close your eyes on the first bite. For those seeking something more elevated, the chicken francese is a standout -- light, lemony, and beautifully balanced. And the Bolognese sauce is a slow-simmered masterpiece, rich and deeply savory, the kind that makes you want to mop the plate clean with a piece of bread. What truly sets Mama's apart, though, is the people. Manager Nicole runs the front of house with warmth and genuine care, making every guest feel like a regular from the moment they walk in. Server Carol is an absolute delight -- attentive, friendly, and the kind of server who makes the whole experience feel effortless and personal. Mama's is the rare restaurant that works for every occasion. Date night, birthday celebration, graduation dinner, anniversary -- or just a Tuesday when you need a great slice. The atmosphere is welcoming, the food is consistently outstanding, and the staff makes you want to come back. Simply put: Mama's is a neighborhood treasure.

The last time I visited Cafe Dolce Vita was probably in 2007 before I left for college and…read moresubsequently moved to Boston. I'm not sure what ever became of the old owner and his wife, but they owned and ran Cafe Dolce Vita for decades - I recall when it was located in the plaza next door at 1966 Deer Park Avenue, and we used to go there when I was a student at DPHS. Let me tell you; I still think of their chicken marsala pizza, or their pinwheels. I knew pizza didn't have to be just plain cheese or pepperoni, but that a pizza could have chicken marsala on it was life-changing for me. If a pizza could have chicken marsala on it, why, it could have just about anything on it. I don't know if I'll ever get back to Deer Park someday, or if Cafe Dolce Vita will still be there when I do, but if it is I will absolutely be stopping in. All these haters don't know the half of Cafe Dolce Vita's story and status as one of the grand dames of pizza joints in Deer Park and the fact that some of these newer places crowding the town weren't even a glimmer in their owner's eye when Cafe Dolce Vita was already the older, established joint in town. So what if the old owner was a bit gruff. He made pizza so good I still remember it nearly twenty years later. And it looks like the place is still going strong. Don't let the flame die out! The pizza here is a treasure of the town, and stands on its own merits.

I will definitely be returning for more of their fare. Tale of the tape: Garlic Knots and Marinara Sauce Medium to large sized, they have a light texture and a light chew, with a decent enough garlic flavor to make you realize that you are indeed eating a garlic knot, and not a piece of pizza dough. The marinara sauce (that I had to ask for) was not that great, however - it was thin and not very flavorful. When paired with the knot, the two flavors together were decently complimentary. Creamed Spinach slice Crust is thin with a subtle yet good general flavor of its own - it doesn't just taste like flour and water. The creamed spinach, in a word, is great - I am very impressed! The spinach is finely chopped, is plentiful, and has just enough "creamed" component to give it a really good flavor. This is a very hearty slice! As if this weren't enough, there is a thin layer of really good mozzarella cheese under the spinach with a good pull and which gives it a little extra flavor boost. Serious folks, this has to be the best spinach slice I have ever had, and I will definitely purchase it again! Primavera slice A decent amount of sautéed vegetables, including broccoli, zucchini, carrots and spinach, all atop Vita's thin, crispy, light and flavorful crust. Another really good slice with vegetables that actually have flavor, unlike others I have tried. Rigatoni alla Vodka With a nice flavorful tang, it's very good. Humorous side note I originally posted this review not here, but for a place called La Dolce Vita in Belmar, New Jersey! An alert fellow Yelper was kind enough to message me about my ridiculous mistake, and set me straight! Thanks, Patricia R.!

I was starving so anything would taste good - you would think. Based on previous pictures they seemed to give a generous amount of protein (2-3 pieces stacked of chicken in chicken parm pics). I'm not really a sandwich person because I find it quite rare to be wowed by them besides some really good ones on the must eat sandwich list of nyc. I agree with other reviewers that it's odd how there are no prices listed when previously they had the prices written. That does make the cost subject to change but I would hope that is that not the case on a daily basis. I ordered based on the yelp pictures and went with the chicken parm and big mitch. When we got the order. I was like wow these are big. The two sandwiches were a tad over $28. I was honestly surprised a sandwich cost this much but it does help that they are big and hopefully good. Anything is worth the price as long as it's good. I take a bite of the mitch and gave my partner a look. He's like let me guess, chicken is dry? Replied yeah..and no flavor. Maybe add more pesto and put it on both sides of the sandwich? Not sure. My Italian friend owns a shop in the boroughs and makes killer sandwiches. I don't know their secret for success that they always get long lines everyday but I do know you will never get a dry bland chicken. As for the chicken parm, there was only one layer of chicken! Man I was super disappointed. I specifically ordered this for more chicken. I understand why they put less sauce - so it's not soggy but maybe a tad more sauce would be helpful. This was equally dry and soggy. The cheese was really good and helped. I'm a huge supporter of local business, especially mom and pop shops. I think growing up in the boroughs really spoiled me with food choices. If you're hungry and just care about portion, I guess this is a good option around here. Honestly, I just drive back to the boroughs for food. Probably not economical and gas friendly but anything I intake needs to be worth my calories. I workout way too hard to consume food not up to par. This shop looks very clean and welcoming.
