The breakfast food here is pretty solid, and it's always lovely to come eat outside. I've eaten here about three or four times in my time at Davis, and haven't really been disappointed yet. Maybe the service is slow sometimes, but I'm not usually on a time crunch when I come here. I have ordered the Belgian Waffles, Eggs Benedict, and Pumpkin Pancakes before. They were all very very good. The food definitely achieves what it's going for. I haven't been able to try their bottomless mimosas, but I'm sure that helps make brunches awesome! I haven't really expanded beyond their breakfast menu, but the food I've had was pretty good. Visited the downtown Sacramento location before and it was good. This location is downtown UC Davis area and it was very nice. Ordered the turkey burger with fries. The meat was good (too often dry at many restaurants). Seating inside was pretty close so while I appreciate businesses are trying to recover, it did give me a little pause. There is a lot of indoor and outdoor seating to find a place that works for you. Within walking distance of a lot of downtown businesses, this was a very nice place to go back to again when up here visiting. read more

We came here on picnic day in Davis and despite the crowds, we got seating immediately. I was a bit disappointed that their brunch was discontinued earlier than usual (1pm), at 11am, which was kind of a bummer since it was my first meal of the day. Oh well, I decided to order a salmon sandwich, which ended up being HUGE! So the portions are pretty awesome. The odd thing I noticed though was that the paper menus that they handed out didn't have any prices on them and for my salmon sandwich and my husband's burger with fries, it came to $30, which seemed a bit pricey without any drinks. My husband's order also came out wrong initially, he asked for no onions and regular fries and his burger came out with onions and sweet potato fries. They quickly corrected it though. This was a cute spot for mid-day brunch. I was happy with the options, although I would have liked for their real fast menu to last later into the day. I ordered avocado toast which was a standard level of good. I also got a side of sweet potato fries which was a really generous portion and could definitely be shared between two people. I have also tried the grain and vegetable bowl which surpassed my expectations and was great. The latte I ordered was huge and came in a bowl - kind of strange - but it was a good latte. Tasty breakfast! It was super yummy with the blueberry pancakes that were whole wheat, bacon avocado omelette with Jack cheese, and refreshing orange juice. It was definitely a complete breakfast meal and served both fast and piping hot. However, there was a small weird thing where our silverware only came with forks and the waiter told us that the restaurant ran out of knives. It was the oddest thing ever, however, towards the end of the meal, all their knives got restocked and they gave us knives right when we finished our food. TL;DR - Only gone during brunch. Foods meh, ambiance ok, service cool, and low value. Can get a lot of the same food done better, or for cheaper, or both elsewhere. Honestly I'm more on the it's not good side just because of the price. It's kind of expensive like the portions are decent, but it just doesn't taste good. A lot of the food is really bland and missing flavor and spice. Because of this, it gets kinda tiring after awhile since the plates have little variety. I'd gladly take a little less of the entree, for more of the sides the plates already come with or like a side of fruit because I don't even think any of them come with that. I can definitely get more variety (not just the entree and some potatoes) or better tasting food for that price here in Davis. Service: It's cool, no issues. Ambiance: The main reason people go. The other reviews that describe this place as chaos are spot on. They are simply too slow and disorganized for ordering at the counter to make sense. They should switch to full table service, considering the already high prices. Also, they are too cheap to turn on the AC, so the inside is pretty consistently the temperature of a sauna. I'm really surprised it's taken me this long to write a review for Cafe Bernardo's. I've been coming to this place FOR YEARS! This little restaurant is a cozy establishment that I'd say is in the upper middle in terms of dining experiences. Definitely not cheap college student food! I usually go to Cafe Bernardo on the weekend when my wife wants brunch. The quality of the food for brunch is excellent... but everything either has egg in it or is carb-y, like waffles. For whatever reason this place never hit the spot for me when it came to my morning meal. Lunch, however, was a revelation. The menu for lunch is really nice and varied. There's a ton on it that I think can satisfy people of many tastes. And it's made well too! I had a little pizza with cheese and tomatoes today. Oh it was so great! The center had gooey cheese and soft crust while the edges were nice and chewy. The ingredients used in it were also a cut above the standard as well. The tomatoes tasted fresh and the cheese was packed with savory flavor. My mom got the Thai noodles which were very fresh tasting as well. We were both surprised that the small version was plenty large enough for one person. Again, great depth of flavor in this dish. If it were up to me I'd just can the breakfast and brunch menu and do lunch ALL THE TIME! Came back here after a while and offer the mobile QR code order but it's the worst design ever! It doesn't let you pay on the mobile it'll just ask you to keep your tab open and that if you don't pay it before you leave they will charge you 20%. I try very hard to be a friendly, flexible and understanding vegan customer, and had been coming here for a while. Today I find out that some of the items they marked 'vegan' on the menu were incorrectly labeled. When I asked if they could do anything with noodles they said no (has egg). So I asked if they could do the black bean burger, they said no (has egg). I asked about any bread, nope (has egg). They literally couldn't offer a vegan carb? She said "We can do a salad". I didn't want a salad, since that's usually not satisfying by itself. The salad I ordered was terrible; a dressing drenched bed of greens (ew). They couldn't have tried less to be accommodating. This is the absolute bottom of customer service. At the end she said "we're not very vegan friendly" -- Message received! I'll take me and my friends/family somewhere else! I love this little cafe. This is my go-to for Sunday brunch in Davis. It has good food and just a cute aesthetic all around. My favorite sandwich is the bahn mi. Their actual breakfast options are good too (the sausage scramble is my personal favorite) but I think if you are brunching I'd lean towards the lunch side of the menu because their sandwiches are killer. I like their lattes but I wouldn't come here just for that unless you just need a caffeine boost close to the park-- Temple does a much better job latte-wise. Service is kind of hit or miss, especially as they're transitioning to the new cashier system. The last time there was a little bit of a mix up they actually offered me a pastry--which I didn't take but appreciated the fact the wanted to set it right! This is the first place that has ever asked me how I'd like my salmon cooked! They have new menu items, and everything we ordered was delicious. The fish tacos were tasty, and the the fish was mild. We are gluten free so it was nice to know they come with corn tortillas. The watermelon and mozzarella and cucumber salad is very good. Basil was a bit strong, but otherwise, it was refreshing. My spouse ordered the salmon salad and it was amazing! The bartender/server actively ignored us, checked in with multiple customers around us and closed out checks, even went to her phone and changed the music. So we left to get brunch elsewhere. I would say Bernardo is a solid brunch spot in Davis, and if you enjoy classic brunch food, it's awesome. The prices are OK, relative to what you are getting. Yeah the service can be slow sometimes but it's a busy little spot, I always sit in the bar side so I understand the staff have a lot to do between hungry customers and the thirstier ones. Their happy hour is one of the best in Davis, with some really tasty bar bites and running later than most around! Highly recommend the mushroom salad for something light! The review is solely based on the drinks here. Most people come here for the wicky wacky woo (or wikis for short), which is part of the Davis trinity. Most people also start the trinity here since cafe bernardo closes the earliest. The wikis shouldn't be stirred and needs to be chugged if you plan on doing the trinity. I haven't really eaten or ordered anything else here. The service or the bartender the night I visited was quite rude. He was not friendly or approachable. read more

Was a little oily and the bread was too crispy. I added a side of fries. I like the style (long and skinny like McDonald's) but they were soggy and over salted.
