Grilled calamari
Yudelka S.

We'd made a later reservation for after our movie but were out sooner than expected and they gleefully accommodated us. Our server Susan was very welcoming and friendly. We were happy to see a full dining room and happy diners. We waited a bit for our food as was expected but the food was very much worth the wait. We enjoyed their egg yolk & shoe-string fries, their grilled calamari, and the ribeye. Everything arrived at perfect temperatures and well seasoned. The bar was inviting and the dining room was spacious but also cozy. We can't wait for our next trip to Beacon, and Cafe Amarcord!!!!

Delicious food, amazing service. I wanted to take my dog to a nice restaurant to celebrate his birthday and they delivered! We loved the beet burrata, arugula salad, and the chicken, and at the end, the staff even made him a little dessert. Thank you for making our night so special!

Randomly saw the restaurant on Google maps and added it to my list. Met my female coworkers for dinner. Fabulous! My favorite cocktail was an espresso martini. It was not sweet (a plus for me), but had a wonderful flavor with a bartender secret ingredient. The beet and barrata appetizer is a winner. It's more like a deconstructed barrata bit delicious. Shared the cute purse shaped cheese stuffed fiocchi pasta with brown butter pasta special, PISTACHIO BURRATA and SHRIMP WITH WILD MUSHROOMS. All pasta dishes were distinct and delicious. We finished a wonderful girls' night out with an amazing espreaso dessert. Ambiance was dark.and romantic - great for date night. Was very happy i stumbled onto the Cafe on my liat. Jessica took great care of us and the bartenders drinks were spot on.

We have been coming to cafe Amarcord since we have been together in 2018 and this has truly become a coveted date night experience when we want to feel certain that the food experience is going to be what is expected and we have yet to be disappointed. Our waitress has been very attentive and sweet, making us feel like there has been an acknowledgment that we have been pretty loyal patrons. Today is my birthday and it has been so nice to be considered despite so much is going on in the restaurant. For alcohol my partner had the margarita with Milagros and I had the sparkling red wine. For starters we had the andovich ( I know I butchered this) salad which had smoked trout, very flavorful balanced bitter salad and the lamb skewers with couscous and a yogurt sauce. Both the salad and the lamb were so flavorful we both were left wanting more while we waited for dinner. For my main course I had the special dungeons crab spaghetti and my partner had the short rib pasta. Both absolutely rich and delectable, For close we had the pistachio truffle which was not too sweet and really delicious. This was a perfect birthday dinner thank you for being so reliable and dependably delicious. 10s across the board Btw did I mention that we refilled the bread 3x, yeah it's that good.

Didn't expect to find good Italian food in the small town of Beacon, but the food was delicious! The chicken, veal, and pasta were mouthwateringly good. Flavorful, but pair well and not overly salty. We originally considered eating in but ended up ordering take-out and the staff was very gracious about the change in our decision. It seems like the menu does change periodically since the items we ordered are no longer on their current menu. I'm not from the area and went a couple years ago.

After exploring the DIA, I stumbled upon this cozy spot, and it was the perfect choice. The pasta was absolutely delicious, and the warm, welcoming service made the experience even better. On a chilly day, it added a wholesome touch to my one-day trip to Beacon. Such a lovely place--I'd highly recommend it!

That rabbit and polenta...oofa!

My weekend birthday getaway started off with a dinner at this area gem. Trust that you need reservations as this place gets packed on a Saturday evening. Although the hostess had to move my party of 2 in order to accommodate a larger group, she hooked us up with drinks on the house and a more intimate table in the back for being agreeable. The warmth continued with our server's humor and level of attentiveness. I could not believe that they had rabbit with polenta on the menu. It brought me back to childhood; the irony of which was not lost on me given the occasion. I took all my sweet time to savor each bite and Amarcord let me. The seared yellow tail tuna my bestie devoured was also a standout. Two clean plates and one Fellini postcard in my pocket is how we left our experience. Can't wait for the next occasion that brings me here again!

Beacon is the best and cutest little town! So much to do and so many places to eat so we had a hard time deciding. We picked Cafe Amarcord and were not disappointed. The inside was beautiful and fancy but we chose outdoor dining off to the side. Our waiter (I think Ken) was pleasant and felt natural, like he knew his stuff and wasn't trying too hard. Our cocktails looked and tasted artisan. I think about $13 each so certainly on the pricey side but my husband and I don't get time out for ourselves too frequently so it was worth the splurge. We got some warm toasty break with this dipping sauce. The bread pretty much serviced as a vessel to get a giant heaping mouthful of the sauce. I asked what was in it and promptly forgot but it was tomato based. Trust me, yummy!! I had the meyer lemon rabbit. I love lemo but have yet to try rabbit. It tasted like chicken and was over polenta and some braised veggies. I honestly would've liked even more lemon taste or maybe some capers but I would order it again. My husband had the duck ragu and was very happy. This isn't a place I would go to all the time. It is fancy and pricey but I would certainly go back for an anniversary or special occasion.

Beet & Goat Cheese Gateau, beautifully presented.

I was excited to try one of the best reviewed restaurants in Beacon but was unfortunately disappointed. The hostess, Ashley, was lovely and super pleasant as was our waitress. The entrees were somehow bland and very slow to arrive. The chicken was very over salted which erased any flavor it might have had. Of course the space is beautifully decorated and the staff is pleasant but the food was just mediocre that dinner we had. A lot to pay for bland, unappetizing food.

But when I want to have an elevated experience with a nod to fine dining, this is my go-to. I always bring friends from out of town here and everyone is impressed. The bartenders make the best martinis and Manhattans you'll find, along with a seasonal cocktail menu that features something for everyone, including mocktails. When I don't want a full dining experience but the hubs and I have a babysitter, we like to sit at the bar for martinis and oysters - SO FRESH! If you don't do oysters, anything on the appetizers list is a wonderful light bite. I don't know what kind of magic the chef uses to make the salads but they are always simple, yet stunning. For dinner, the steak is hard to pass up if you eat red meat. I usually get the single serving NY strip, which is incredible. You can't go wrong. I'm excited to try the porterhouse for 2. My mollusk loving friend raved about the mussels and the fish selection is fantastic. I'm not a big dessert person, but splitting any of the desserts is a treat. Alternatively, the digestif selection doesn't disappoint. The bartenders and bar manager, Nick, are helpful in guiding your taste buds to the right choice. Bud, the owner, whose previous establishments can be read about in some respectfully placed articles around the restaurant, is always accommodating for the busiest place in town. It's nearly impossible to get a seat on Friday and Saturday nights from 6-9, but he will be honest and create a space at one of the little side bar areas if he can. The ambiance is sexy and sophisticated with a touch of whimsy. The toilet paper holder in the restroom always makes me smile (IYKYK). Having been to this restaurant many times, you'll start to see familiar faces as there is now a strong regular crowd. The community and connections that I've found while at Lyonshare have enhanced my experience of living in Beacon. Oh, last thing - brunch is a can't miss, must do culinary event.

We shared the Butter and Blue salad, really well done. The fusilli Ferretto with lamb ragu was one of the best meals I've had in months. The homemade pasta was al dente and the lamb ragu was fragrant and meaty and rich. Perfect on a particularly cold evening. Liz had the sea bass and raved about it. We shared a bottle of Madonna Dell Donno Barolo wine which was probably not the best choice for the sea bass but was an outstanding match for the lamb ragu. The cocktails and dessert were also perfectly done!

Generally speaking, the ambience is really nice. All of the staff was very nice and attentive. We did have a newer server who seemed a little bit nervous and less familiar with the menu than you might want, but she was very nice and we have no complaints about the actual service. We split a half bottle of wine, which was a nice option since we didn't want a full bottle. We started with the French baguette, the brussels sprouts, and the whipped ricotta. The brussels sprouts were delicious. They were perfectly cooked and I couldn't stop going back to them. The whipped ricotta was also really interesting and the flavors were amazing. What was really disappointing was the baguette. When I think baguette, I think crusty, hot, out of the oven. The texture of the baguette was weird because it almost had more of a pretzel like exterior that was chewy and not crispy. For mains, we had the crispy chicken sandwich and the cassoulet. The sandwich was kind of a letdown. The flavors were all nice, but there was no textural difference. The bun was a little too big for the sandwich, the avocado, and the other toppings, just all kind of mushed into each other. It was perfectly enjoyable, but just nothing to write home about. The cassoulet was very good. There was a nice depth of flavor and smokiness to the meat. Overall, no complaints. It did seem as though our mains probably sat under a heat lamp. My guess is that because we were still working on the appetizers they did not want us to feel rushed, but with this kind of meal and the price point, they should do a better job pacing, or they should just bring the food out when it comes out. I would rather have the fresh hot food out of the kitchen, than have it sitting under a heat lamp. Overall, the meal was lovely. There were a lot of really high points. There were also some disappointing parts of the meal. Given the price point and the feel of the round house, the few missteps hit a little bit harder. But we would absolutely come back again. It was an overall very nice experience and we enjoyed our ourselves.

When everyone arrived we all got seated inside and the vibes were immediately off. It took us over 10 min to even get our menus and we were just sitting there trying to flag someone down to help us while we saw a waitress giving menus out to folks just coming in. When we finally got her attention, she just told us "someone will bring it to you soon," when she literally could've just grabbed a few and hand them to us. At this point we were about to leave, but stayed because we were all starving. This happened throughout our meal, we had to ask for water and cups multiple times and even got dirty plates sent to us, which we then asked if we could get newer ones. Not sure if it was because we were the only POC in the room, but we felt like this treatment was targeted specifically at us since everyone else in the place was attended to in a timely, friendly manner. The food was okay and took a while to come out. I got the crab cake benedict and there wasn't much flavor to it. The potatoes were also soggy. The saving grace was probably the banana foster french toast. Overall, we definitely felt unwanted there and would not return solely because of the service.

First, the bartender was so lovely! I don't drink so I was truly impressed with the number of non-alcoholic beverage options available. I initially ordered a non-alcoholic drink, but then I saw the Shark Attack Mocktail and asked if I could switch to that. Thankfully I caught her right before she started making the first drink! The mocktail was sooo cute and actually really tasty! (See photo I included). I loved the theme of it, especially as summertime is officially here. Now let's talk about the arcade part of this place! The machines take quarters, so use the ones you have in your pocket! No quarters? No problem! They have a machine that will give you them, however it only accepts $1 and $5 bills. No cash? Also not a problem! They have an ATM on site. They really did think of everything, here! Most of the games are old skool, such as Pac-Man, Pinball, Dance Dance Revolution, etc. They also have a claw machine, however it's rigged so don't waste your time or quarters on it (which is exactly what I did, hahah!). Pac-Man is two players and my husband and I had a lot of fun with that one! I also LOVED Dance Dance Revolution (located in the far left corner in the back, behind the bar area) and wish I had found it before I wasted most of our quarters. Most of the games take anywhere from $0.50 to $1 to play, so keep that in mind. The patio is very large and much quieter compared to inside. I loved the atmosphere with all the string lights! They also have two little seating areas that are gated (which kind of look like adult playhouses?) which I think would be an awesome spot to chill with your friends + your dog. No fear of your pup running off! Regarding food: they do have a small menu, however it's mostly snack items like mozzarella sticks, a giant pretzel, things to that nature. What's cool, though, is that they offer vegan chicken nuggets!! Not a lot of bars have these, so it's definitely worth noting. 11/10 recommend that you stop in here while visiting Beacon! We absolutely loved it and would come back in a heartbeat!

Coughlin is a cinematographer by trade while Follansbee is a public school art teacher. In 2011, the couple were both living in the Wicker Park area of Chicago. When the Emporium Arcade bar opened in their neighborhood, they both fell in love with the concept of an arcade bar. They later moved to New York City and visited as many arcade bars as they could with the intent to one day open one of their own. By 2018, the couple relocated upstate to Beacon to start a family. It dawned on them that Beacon would be a great location to open a "barcade". The couple didn't just want to open a place for adults to chase the nostalgia of their childhood, but rather a place that the whole family could enjoy. After securing a location on Main Street, and after a short delay from the COVID-19 pandemic, Happy Valley Arcade Bar finally opened to the public. I recently visited Happy Valley with my two sons while we were visiting Beacon. I've loved arcade bars since the first time I visited a Barcade location in 2014. I love sipping on excellent craft beers while enjoying the classic arcade cabinets of my youth. I also appreciate it when arcade bars are family friendly, as both of my sons have also taken an interest in arcade games. We all enjoyed the interior of Happy Valley with all of the crazy colors and spaceship-themed decor on the walls. There was a decent selection of classic arcade cabinets as well as pinball machines, both of which kept my sons occupied for a while. In addition to a nice selection of craft beer on draught, the bar also offers wine, craft cocktails, non-alcoholic options, and various bar bites such as chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, and mac 'n' cheese bites. There were also plenty of seating options both inside and outside. We had already eaten lunch earlier, but I was definitely in the mood for some tasty brews while I played some games. I first enjoyed a Thin Man Brewery's "Pills Mafia" (German Pilsner) followed by an Old Glenham Brewery's "Weaver's Pale Ale" [on cask]. Both of them were flavorful and refreshing. We ended up staying for over an hour; it was nice bonding time for my sons and me. We will definitely stop in again the next time we're visiting Beacon!
