I stopped by Burning Rice to try things out and can verify that you can save the drive up north by having Korean close by. For those unfamiliar, Bibimbap is just simply Korean version of fried rice but with a lot of healthy veggies and meat combined together with rice and some tasty sauces. I would call it a non-oily, healthy version of fried rice but every bit as tasty. Check it out! I enjoyed the concept of Burning Rice a lot. After all, bibimbap made-to-order stores and chains exist, but they almost always bypass the hot stone bowl part. I'm glad that here you can design your own bowl AND it comes in the sizzling hot stone bowl. The only issue is that I found it to be a little lacking in flavor and the meat was a bit tough. Being a bibimbap fanatic, this is one of our must eat places whenever we visit the DFW area. I love that there's so many variety of items to choose from and you can customize pretty much everything in your bowl, including how you want your egg (sunny side, over easy, medium, well done, or scrambled) My husband and I always get the hot stone bowl and it word of caution it comes super steamy hot!!! The food tastes and smells delicious but it's so hot you really have to pace yourself. This time around we got the bbq pork, bbq chicken and crispy chicken as proteins, all very yummy, and they give you a good portion as well. My only complaint is that you can tell they add a lot of oil at the bottom of the stone bowl so by the end of my bowl everything was drenched in oil. We decided to try out a different location of Burning Rice. This time around we ordered the spicy bulgogi and spicy garlic pork bibimbap. The spicy bulgogi was a huge disappointment. Although the flavor was okay, the shredded texture wasn't appealing. Alas, both the spicy bulgogi and the spicy garlic pork weren't spicy at all. The word "spicy" should be removed from the menus since it is misleading. We also ordered the Korean fried chicken bites (not pictured), which was far superior compared to the spicy bulgogi bibimbap. I'm open to trying other items on the menu, but I'm not ordering the bulgogi again. read more

You basically order through a self service station, and you can customize your order as much as you want starting from the base (rice, noodle, kimchi rice etc) to the toppings. Came here to grab a quick bite because Yelp said this place had vegan options. The menu doesn't label vegan items so I just kinda had to guess. You order at a kiosk inside so staff isn't ringing in your order to ask as you go (though they are close by in the open kitchen). I had a BYO bowl and there are lots of options & the kiosk is really good about guiding you through the steps. There's not an option to order sauces so maybe you just have to know what's available to ask for. Service was pretty quick and food came up quickly. The decor is pretty industrial with concrete floors (plenty of seating). I will say, the floors seemed sticky wherever I was standing so that was a little weird. All of the ingredients are high quality and the portions are very generous for the price (enough for two meals honestly). Today is Eric R.'s birthday so for lunch he chose to come back here, but it was my first time. We both ordered almost exactly the same thing and therefore should have split it (oops) - one is definitely enough for two people! We both got spicy beef bulgogi dolsot bimibap with white rice, sunny side up egg, and "all of the toppings" except I got mine without zucchini. We both added nori and fried onion for 25 cents each. At the condiment bar, there was lettuce, cucumber, onion, mushroom, broccoli, and jalapeno with two dressings: sesame or ginger balsamic. There were two soups: wakame seaweed soup and tofu miso. The sauces included BBQ, ganjang (garlicky soy), gochujang, and extra spicy (looked like gochujang with chile flakes in it). Our bowls came out in these cool wooden platforms to prevent burning ourselves when touching it. The rice got crispy on the bottom as we mixed it up and added sauces. I really liked the ganjang with the gochujang added. The egg was perfect and yolk runny. It stayed hot the entire time we ate and even in the to-go box (it was so yummy and hot it was hard to stop eating! We finally put some in a to-go box and there is a lot left still)! Order process is fairly easy, I usually opt for the hot stone bowl to get the sizzling/burning rice effect. I have tried the bulgogi as well as the LA galbi, both are seasoned well and delicious. And go with all the toppings, unless you don't want the egg. I'm a fan of the complementary salad and soup bar as well. Nothing fancy but the salad ingredients are fresh and you get a choice between miso and seaweed soup. Overall, a great concept for casual takeout or dinein.
