No matter how far you live, it is definitely worth the drive!! They have 5 different types of in-home sauces.. I highly recommend trying the Cajun Rajun and Thai Ketchup, Apple Cider is pretty good too, but a little strong. The burgers were really good. We tried a couple of chicken burgers with regular and sweet potato fries, and we were NOT disappointed with our food. The service was nice and friendly, and very courteous. Saw the owner help his servers clean up tables. He came to greet us as we finished dinner and asked for our feedback. Enough of a reason to come back to such awesome hosts!! The food: I ordered the Tex-Mex and it was a big burger. The beef patty itself needs some seasoning it was a little bland for my taste and it was medium. The toppings made up some ground on the flavoring but if you like your burger plain like just lettuce and tomato then you might not like it. The bread could have been a little fresher but not bad at all. The sauces were good the Thai ketchup was good but I used the chipotle mayo more. The fries are thin and get cold fast but they were good. The sweet tea was REALLY sweet but with allot of ice it leveled off. The service was great but it got close to overbearing. Ashburn has got it going on lately! New shopping centers and great eateries popping up all over the place. Burger 21 is sitting in a new plaza that doesn't have much open yet, but coming soon there will even be a movie theater. You order at the counter and seat yourself. There are so many specialty burgers, including beef, poultry, veggie, and seafood (shrimp or sushi grade ahi tuna!). We ordered the Tex-Mex Haystack, Black & Blue, half sweet tator & half french fries with a side of cheese & ale sauce topped with bacon & green onions, and two kids' cheeseburger meals. Everything was great! I really liked the cheese sauce for the fries. My kids both gobbled up their burgers and wanted to order another. There are tons of dipping sauces, of all them, we liked the ragin' cajun the best. Oh, and don't forget to order a shake! I love Burger 21. You spend a little more and it can get pretty busy in there, but I think it's worth it for the selections. I could give this place five stars on the Thai ketchup alone. Seriously catch myself craving it around lunch time. We have visited twice and plan on coming back to try some more menu items and some milkshakes because they look delicious! We shared the sliders and the half and half fries which was enough to fill us up. Both were great! Another unique thing we liked about the place was the beer selection. They had Ithaca beer, which meant a lot to us because we just moved here from Ithaca and it was nice to see something familiar. :) The only thing that threw us off is that you walk up to the door and place your order at a register, you get your own drinks and your own sauces, but before you even get your food they want you to leave a tip. The kitchen does bring your food out to you but that is it. So it was confusing as to why there is a tip listed on our receipt when it's not a conventional sit down restaurant. The food is great and we will be returning for more nomming adventures, but mostly just for the Thai Ketchup. read more

So my first time at burger 21 was okay. The staff was great! They were helpful very nice and talkative. I wasn't a fan of walking right in to the register and it being a fast food style. I thought it was a little more then that. Keep and my girlfriend ordered a bacon burger and a regular burger with a lettuce bun. With fries. We got the food, I enjoyed the way it came out. Both my gf and i's French fries were semi warm not hot the way we expected it. That was dissapointing. The burgers were juicy, made exactly how I asked for it. We got the free cookie off of yelp which was fine. They only had peanut butter but it was the end of the night. That was fine. We did enjoy it the burger was great and the service. The fries didn't come out hot which was dissapointing. But everyone who worked there was very nice including the manager who also helped with Samsung pay. read more

Went here tonight for the first time, after living down the street for over a year... why haven't we been before?! We ordered two burgers, Tex Mex Haystack Burger and the 101. Both were cooked to perfection! We also ordered a shareable portion of blackened fries. Fries were so great, however as expected with carry out fries, soggy when we got home. No fault on burger 21. Portion would easily feed x3 hungry adults! To finish it off, we ordered the salted caramel shake. Thick and creamy!! One suggestion though, they need to carry proper shake straws (larger diameter). I think what stood out most, was that the staff was by far made of of the nicest most gracious people in all of ashburn. Not only with their guest interactions, but with each other. Very rare can you go into a restaurant in this area, and be greeted by each and every employee. Not only did they greet me, but you could hear their smiles behind the masks! Manager Faye was very busy, but still had a chance to speak with each guest. 5 star. Will be back soon. read more

I found the fries to be seasoned well, it's not just salt but a mixture of seasonings - still tasty! I thought it was a nice touch when they ask how you would like your patty cooked. We came here on a weekday but nonetheless the staff was really attentive, and quick to tend to any of your needs. The sauce bar was also a nice touch to fully maximize your burger/fry experience - I would recommend the Thai ketchup if you want something different but not too adventurous. Chicken fingers were very fresh and juicy with great flavor. I had the buffalo chicken tender sandwich very tasty but beware it is a two hand mission as it is a bit messy. Fries were good but better with Thai ketchup. We will visit again when back in Virginia. read more

Burgers are as good as in their Sterling location. But this Ashburn branch doesn't have the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine (the touch-screen one with many options). They have limited choices for soft drinks, so thats a downer. They do have the same choices for ketchup and other condiments. They brought my good the table, as they do in Sterling, but they served my food packed and ready to go, which was odd. Unlike their Sterling counterpart I did not see a manager/supervisor walking around the location and asking the tables if everything is to their liking. This is the best burger place I've found in NOVA. The Tex Mex burger is my favorite. They usually make all their burgers a little salty, so you may want to tell them to go light on the salt. From the moment I stepped up to the building, one of the workers held the door open for me, he explained the menu and gave me some suggestions since it was my first time there. Second time trying these guys out, this time awhile after they opened as we didn't have a great experience the first time last fall. We won't make the mistake a third time. The kid's grilled cheese is nothing more than slider buns turned inside out with american cheese. My burger was served raw despite being ordered medium well. The manager came out and blamed it on the type of burger that it was and said another was being made. My family was done with their meals by the time the new one came out 15min later (they weren't busy so not sure why it took that long but whatever, we were in no hurry). No offer of a refund or free dessert like most reputable places do. An apology was offered for the raw meat at the counter when my wife went in to order a shake for my kid...not that the manager made one to me (she blamed the burger choice, not whomever failed to cook it). With BurgerFi, Wayback, Melt! (yumm) and Elevation Burger all within the area, I doubt Burger 21 will be around for the long haul. They certainly failed to impress (again). read more

We stopped by Burger 21 for lunch on a Saturday afternoon during the "Covid 1984" lock-in. The place was dead. We both ordered cheeseburgers and a single order of fries to share. The burgers we good but really greasy. I had the gluten free version and was pleasantly surprised with the GF burger bun. The burgers were cooked well but lacked flavor. The fries were very good. I was NOT happy with the condiments bar. It was messy and had no plain mustard. I think next time we will just order take out so we can use whatever condiments we like. Unfortunately a string of bad experiences has led our family to potentially crossing this place off our list. The latest includes ordering take out for the family. Upon arrival at the requested time, the order was not ready. While we waited about 7-10 minutes for the food to come out (why order ahead? Seems like it would almost take this long to eat in) the associate at the bar forgot to make the chocolate milk for the order. It was apparent they were trying "to look busy" in a restaurant with only two customers eating in. The chocolate milk itself wasn't bad, it's the fact that I'm ready to pick up the order, it could come out any second and they seemed to not know about it (another associate said "aren't you going to make the chocolate milk?") When the order did come out, there was no concern to make sure it was accurate. The last several times we ordered out, the person (the manager at the time) always seemed to check with customer everything was correct before leaving. After pulling out all the containers, one of the sandwiches was prepared wrong and the kids meal looked incomplete. After asking for a manager, when they arrived (I don't think it was the manager...just the same person who brought it to me) I mentioned the kids meal and the lack of product (see photo). REALLY??? Can't knock the other kids options but Chick-fil-A, among others, can offer better sides and more product for the price. There was no response from the associate. The burger also had a sauce on it that was supposed to be on the side and was missing a side dressing. The response was that online orders didn't have a way of knowing it was to be on the side. There is specifically a section on the site that allows this. No apology from anyone... The burgers were cooked okay. Nothing fancy. Five guys, Fosters, or other chains can offer similar for the money. Having had shakes before, they are good but, again, pricey for what you get. This is how fries are meant to be served: piping hot. What surprised me wasn't how hot they came out, but how hot they STAYED. Burger, sure, great, but those fries.... In all seriousness burger was, I hesitate to say great, but it was very good, how about that. Asked for medium, it came out about med-well. That combined with the likely-pretty-lean beef made for a patty more dry than I prefer. The rest of the burger (bun, toppings etc) propped this minor complaint up sufficiently well. I saw the condiment dispensers to the side so didn't think to ask, but if you want traditional mayo on your burger, ask when ordering (it's not among the condiments for whatever reason, maybe I missed it). I fairly good juicy burger upon my 1st visit to Burger 21. In Ashburn VA there is a Burger war going on with so many new Burger places and Monday Specials in Burgers are common. Burger 21 is a bit pricey, especially with fries and a drink. We tried to ordered the Shroom Burger but the 2 people taking our order could not tell us what kind of mushroom and may not have understood our question as to "what kind of mushroom comes on Shroom Burger". Next was the Spicy Thai Shrimp Burger. We were told Tomatoes did NOT come on this burger. So we ordered with No Lettuce. What we got was a Spicy Thai Shrimp Burger with Tomatoes and Lettuce! This burger joint has been a hit or miss. Not worth the cost at all. Sometimes the burgers are decent but the service is poor. Sometimes the other way around. Last time my burger was half medium half raw and bloody while the fries were stale. Disgusting! And when the waitress came around to pickup the tray she asked the obligatorily question about the food to which I replied that the meat was raw.
