Arrived about 8:45pm. Closing time was 10pm as advertised on Google (and confirmed with staff). One employee was putting chairs on top of dining room tables an hour and 15 minutes before closing which made us feel as though they didn't want us there. No one behind counter as we were placing our order through the kiosk. Therefore we didn't know the soda fountain wasn't working (and we'd ordered fountain drinks). Had to ask someone where our cups were and that's when they told us it was out of order. One employee, who was clearly on duty, was clapping his hands loudly and singing in the dining room. Buttressed by Blackfinn Pub and Famous Toastery, a solid go-to movie theater right around the corner, and the brand spanking new metro station in Ashburn within walking distance. I came around noon, debating on brunch at FT or a quick-and-easy lunch at B-21, my fave local spot to grab a burger at. I decided to cast caution to the wind, and play shotgun roulette with B-21. I swung by here, and was presented with a near-deserted ambiance and a non-existent line. This place sorely needs more patrons, if you ask me. I rolled the 20-sided dice yet again, and went with the Steakhouse Black Pepper (#71) -- a limited time burger, and a likewise signature shake to go hand-in-hand with it -- the Triple Shot Espresso. At the end, I was presented with one of those fancy flag things that flagrantly flew my order number -- #69. Right on, brotha. I would've preferred a digit higher though -- almost hitting the nail on the head, my fave number knocking right next door. Wait was not bad. I chose one of those fancy, four-seater booths adjoining the window. Milkshake arrived first, with presentation on top-tier level. Black, chocolate-coated espresso beans with what looked like cinnamon sprinkled atop it. I had a few sips, and it truly hit the spot, on what felt like the warmest day in the cold, biting heart of Virginia winter. The burger arrived later, shadowing the footsteps of the shake. Luxurious angus beef patty, Swiss cheese riddled with miniature holes that would even make a mouse proud, smoked bacon that skirted the edge of grandeur, and a brioche bun that provided the fitted icing on a medium-rare and well-seasoned cake. While I ate and drank my milkshake in the warm and languorous peace, I thought about my experiences, life choices, and a little of everything. I appreciate the peace that the atmosphere offered me, on a deep and altogether personal level. Burger, pretty solid and a home run in terms of presentation alone. Great customer service and was very helpful and kept the place clean. Menu is simple yet decent and has awesome options. I ordered the sliders got the shareable fries which is still A LOT for just two people. They have a huge selection of sauces for your food and I was amazed at how good they actually tasted. Normally, places that have numerous sauces have a lot that are just "ok". B21 all except one tasted delicious and my favorite was the Thai Ketchup!! Probably should not have ordered a salad at a burger joint but c'est la vie....my son and I stopped in before going to Christmas Village at Leesburg Animal Park. It was a Tuesday around 5:15pm and it was pretty empty. Order at the counter,pay, and they bring out the food. My son had the cheeseburger kids meal with fries and an Honest berry lemonade. He ate all the fries (which I vouch were tasty), but his burger was on the burnt side. My salad left a LOT to be desired. It had no nuts on it or romaine lettuce as noted in the description. It was all iceberg and very little goat cheese. The chicken was cold and rubbery-seemed like it came out of a Tysons bag. The one thing that was good was the sauce bar. I'm not a burger fan so I seek alternative options when I eat at a burger joint. Their chili cheese dog is darn good and the Thai shrimp burger is lightly breaded, tasty, and has "umami". The place is family/kid friendly of course. Which kid can say no to sweet potato fries and sliders? Not mine. She loved her cheesy sliders, with the sweet potato and string fries combo. There is also a kids menu with salads, hot dogs, grilled cheese, and chicken tenders. I think what wow'ed me were the variety of sauces. So many to choose from! I used to work near this place so my coworkers and I used to pick-up orders frequently. Their shakes are the best, the banana's foster is my favorite. They have specialty shakes but I usually stick to my go to and this visit was no different. It never lets me down, however, the burger I had was a complete let down. Their Loaded Spud Burger was a dud..it was suppose to feature a potato crisp, chopped applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, scallion cream, cheese & ale sauce with certified beef on a brioche bun. The potato crisp was about the only identifiable thing on the bun besides the obvious meat and bread. I've never been so let down by a burger, the sauce was lacking, there was not even a piece of cheese. It looked like the cook took some shredded cheese and melted it on the patty. Burger 21 was great. It's a great place to go by and grab some food if your nearby. I had a family member recommend me to come by here a while ago and I decided to stop by. Place is very clean and the staff are extremely friendly and kind. Although it was a Saturday they weren't too busy and had plenty of seating. Grab a booth if you can and you can enjoy the nice views from your booth. They have different flavors for sauces: thai ketchup, their custom sauce, etc. The marshmallow wasn't really my thing, but I'm sure if your up for it you can go ahead and try! The food overall was good, I think the prices are fair too. You get your food to order and someone brings it by from the busy kitchen nearby. When it comes to rating this place, I am in agreement with Jim M. --- This is a tough one to judge. There are many good things about it. For example, they serve "fresh Certified Angus beef, never frozen" and that does show in the quality of the meat. However, their default cooking method is medium-well. My burger came out that way and was juicy and flavorful. However, my husband's came out well done, thus a bit on the dry side. Still, he agreed with me about the meat quality. Plus the variety of sauces is excellent with unique flavors like Thai ketchup, for example. It's almost like, "Where to begin?" when choosing. Service is excellent. When we first entered, we weren't quite sure where to place our order. Straight ahead there is the counter when the floats and shakes are made. The ordering station is to the left and doesn't immediately catch your eye. Fortunately, the cashier called out to us to get our attention. He was very friendly with a good sense of humor and he got our order correct. We each had a burger plus we shared a large order of fries. To drink, I had a root beer float while my husband had a Yuengling. All totaled, it was $26 + change. We were given a number to put on a stand at our chosen table. The place still has a new building smell to it, which was surprising. It is kept very clean. Your food is brought to your table when it is ready. The root beer float was uniquely prepared. I was expecting a cup of root beer with a scoop of vanilla ice cream added to it. Instead, I was given a cup with a generous amount of vanilla soft serve ice cream in it and a bottle of Boylan's root beer on the side. To me, Boylan's root beer didn't work too well in this drink because I find its flavoring to be, well...different from the more mainstream root beers. So it seemed to overtake the entire float. Some of the not so good things --- There is no option on the menu to create your own burger. You are limited to the menu offerings. My husband had the "Burger 101" which consists of "fresh and juicy Certified Angus Beef, lettuce, tomato, toasted brioche bun". He was surprised to find that there wasn't the option of adding onion to it. I had "The Bacon Cheesy" which consists of "lettuce, tomato, red onion, applewood smoked bacon, American, cheddar or Swiss cheese, toasted brioche bun". I chose American cheese and ended up giving the onions to my husband, so we were both happy. The portion of bacon was very generous plus it was good quality and not cooked to death. We have a beef with the lettuce (no pun intended---well...not really LOL). It is chopped into small pieces which doesn't work well on a burger. A bigger piece of lettuce that was about the size of the burger would have worked much better. My husband also pointed out that there are no pickles! Still a big plus is that they have staff who walk around the dining area and ask how everything is and if they can get you anything. They also clear away plates, etc. in a timely fashion. If you're not overly familiar with Ashburn, the place isn't very easy to find. It's too easy to assume that it is in the shopping center where Giant is located. However, if you are approaching it from Loudoun County Parkway and you hit the shopping center, you've gone to far. The entrance is on the left on Central Station Drive. There is no traffic light there so it is easy to miss. Plus the apartment/shopping complex that it is in is still unfinished. That said, there is a good sized parking lot next to the place. Would we go back? We both say "yes". The burgers are some of the better ones around, to be sure. We also agree that its rating is between 3 and 4 stars. read more

Came here awhile back and enjoyed their burgers, fries, and shakes. Upon entering, we noticed how clean and organized everything was. Place your order with the cashier, she was friendly and quick. You are given a number card. Plenty of seating available. There is no server here, your order is brought to your table when it is ready. Restrooms are in the middle of the restaurant and they are super clean. They also have a hand washing station right in the middle of the restaurant, love it. I really appreciate the customer service here. Everyone was incredibly friendly. The gentleman who prepared our meal even came out at one point and asked us if we were enjoying our meal. He spoke to us for a bit about the history of Burger 21. I thought that was very sweet and professional of him to ask the customers if they were enjoying their meals. I love that they have a sauce bar. I am all about dipping sauces and they have some unique flavors: Apple Cider, Thai Ketchup, and Toasted Marshmallow to name a few. I really enjoyed the Cheese and Ale Fries. The fries are thin and crisp. The cheese sauce had a nice consistency and had great flavor. Their burgers are delicious. The bun is soft, yet holds everything together. The meat patty could have had more flavor but the consistency was on point. The quality of meat is also very good. All the toppings inside added lots of flavor to the burger as a whole. Definitely try their shakes, they have a nice variety of flavors. The ice cream was smooth, creamy, and not overly sweet. Great experience, great service and yummy food!!! I feel so bad for everyone who had a bad experience, maybe I just got really lucky that night. You first come in and order and find a seat and they bring it to you. The restaurant is spacious and clean with alot of tables and booths. My boyfriend ordered the banana foster milkshake, it was too sweet for me but he enjoyed it. For the burger I got the black and bleu with onion strings on top. Oh boy, it definitely hit the spot. Cheat meal gone wild. The meat was flavorful, thick and juicy. The kind of juicy that runs downs your hands when you bite into it. I finished that bad boy quick. We ordered the fries with Ale Cheese dip, it's a cheesy dip with bacon and scallions. Perfect with the thin shoe string fries. I also dipped my fries into the most amazing sauce - thai ketchup.
