finally made it to Ford's Fish Shack, and I have to say, the recommendations were spot on. We went on a Saturday night and it wasn't crowded at all; we had a reservation, but it didn't look like we actually needed one. Our server, Sofia, was great. She was super attentive, always checked in on us, and gave us some really solid tips for our appetizers and entrees. We started with a dozen oysters from three different locations. I'm no expert, but I really enjoyed them...they tasted just like the beach! My wife ordered the Maine seafood basket, and the seafood was delicious and perfectly crunchy. I'm definitely getting that next time. I went with three lobster tails (one fried, two grilled), and they were honestly some of the best I've ever had. That butter sauce is amazing. Ford's is such a timeless classic. I went recently with my dad and had absolutely delicious lobster tail and crab legs. My dad always gets the fish tacos, which he says are "the best" he's had in Ashburn. The angry muscles are also VERY good. It was our last day in the area and I wanted to give this place a try based on the reviews. Upon entering, the place is a bit dark, with black vertical-grooved booths on the leftmost side of the restaurant and iridescent pendant lights dangling over the tables. Vintage Maine lobster buoys hang above the tables, along with decorative mounted plastic fish. Busy chalkboards dangle over the place as well. The place looked cute. The servers stand in their work station in the center of the restaurant near the front and mounted TVs and booths surround them as well. We were immediately seated after arriving and ordered the following: Fish wings, which are bone-in, flash fried with buffalo sauce and celery root slaw and blue cheese dressing. Hubs was curious as to what type of fish he was eating, so he asked the server what fish it was and was told it was Atlantic puffer fish. I'm sure it's safe if the restaurant serves it but daughter and I got scared. LOL. I wish Hubs didn't ask so we could try it because it looked good. Daughter and I ended up not eating it but Hubs did and enjoyed it. Hubs is usually not a buffalo wing person, but he enjoyed the fish overall. Deviled Good Eggs, which has praline bacon and spiced pecans. Daughter liked it and said that the pecans gave the eggs a slightly sweet taste. BLT wedge, which has iceberg lettuce, bacon, grape tomatoes, radishes, blue cheese crumbles, green goddess dressing. This was good. It's nice, crispy and fresh. Wish I'm able to make this at home. LOL. Connecticut lobster roll- it's sautéed and has warm butter. Roll served with grilled corn and thin fries. This was pretty good and not overdone. I usually prefer Connecticut lobster roll over New England roll. I liked the presentation of the corn. It was half shucked and roasted. Fried Fishwich, which has cod, white American cheese, tartar sauce, lettuce, tomato. The sandwich is served with thin fries, but Daughter substituted them with sweet potatoes for $1. She said it was really tasty and didn't expect much but she liked her dish the most out of the everyone's. Hubs said that this was one of the top 3 best fish that he's had in his lifetime. So just got to town and looked up some restaurants in the area and this was it! Ordered the New England clam chowder to start and the catch of the day. Both were delicious but the Alaskan halibut was the best, very moist and paired with a rich sauce and green beans. Oh and the prices are very fair and the service was great. This was my first visit to Ashford Virginia and I am so happy that I found Fords fish shack. It is a family friendly restaurant with a full bar. The atmosphere was very lively I got there at about 630pm and there was no wait. I was seated at a booth. The food was phenomenal. I have nothing but good things to say about the food for appetizers. I started with the calamari which had a lobster reduction sauce, and I also had the deviled eggs which had a candied pecan on top of it. it was so good. I ate all four. I didn't share it with anyone . For my dinner, I went with the Connecticut lobster roll corn on the cob and a chopped salad. My friends had the surf and turf, which was a steak and a crabcake. They also had a fried fish basket and shrimp tacos all of which were 10 out of 10. The service was incredible. The server was very attentive and knowledgeable. He greeted us upon entry, took our drink orders immediately, and our appetizers was spaced accordingly with our entrées. On our way to Lisbon, Portugal today (flight tonight) we stopped at Ford Fish Shack. This is our second time here, and the food is awesome! The espresso martinis are made with Baileys, which was a little sweet for our taste. We told the bartender how to make a "manmosa," which is really Absolut vodka, Champagne, and a splash of either orange juice, cranberry, or pomegranate. He had never heard of that but willing to ask the bartender. The bartender made one for us, and it was absolutely delicious--just as we would find in most places in Hampton Roads. Anyway, we had the blackened shrimp, which was also delicious, along with a side of blackened scallops. They should really consider making "blackened scallop tacos" because they were incredibly good! Our waiter, a young guy named Nelson, was very pleasant and attentive. He made the whole experience wonderful. We asked for several things that weren't customary at this establishment, but he was able to either ask the chef or the bartender to make it happen for us. I can't say enough good things about this place. If you're in town, driving through, or simply passing by, stop by and say hello to them. Altogether fantastic place for dinner! Service was very pleasant, and the fish tacos were the best I've ever had. Zesty and fresh with each bite! My friend loved the Maine chips and thought they had something interesting in every bite. The Devilish Good Eggs were spicier than I reckoned for, but we still finished them. The only reason the review is for four stars rather than five is that the sample I had of Lobstah Bisque was much saltier than I thought it should have been. And our water glasses ran empty while we were dining. I would still visit again next time I'm in Ashburn. When we moved to NOVA 18 years ago, this quickly became our go to for date nights and special occasions. Yummy seafood with great appetizers and enjoyable environment. HOWEVER... the last few visits o could see a decline. I didn't want to believe it. But this past visit I ordered ca bowl of clam chowder. When the half full bowl of Luke warm soup arrived I was starving. I could barely taste the clams over the tin can flavor. It was so strong I asked if they made it in house. When I asked about it the waiter was less than happy to explain that "of course we make it in house". The lobster salad, another favorite, looked like it had gone on a diet... a shadow of its former glory but still costing $$$$$. The shrimp appetizer was still yummers. We went to Fords Fish Shack on 4/26/26 and the service was excellent as well as the restaurant itself. The only complaint that I have is that the Crab Cakes were very poor quality. I have been going to the restaurant for years and never had anything that I thought was bad . The Crab Cakes were always great as they were large and you could see the lumps of crab. Today they were small and there were no lumps and they were a little bit on the salty side. Now I realize that provisions these days are very high but I would rather pay a higher price to have good quality Crab. Ford's is a staple in our household. We usually go at least once a quarter. My fiancée first introduced it to me when we started dating. They have solid seafood for the NoVa area. We've ordered steaks, lobster, crab cakes, scallops, and more. Personal favorites have to be the blackened scallops and the crab cakes. But the surf and turf is a solid option as well, especially for the price. The little cornbread muffins are also an amazing starter. The service is always friendly here. The highlight on one visit was an older lady serving us in the high tops in the bar area. She was super kind and actually put us on the blackened scallops. Good chunks of lobster in it, and although cream, it wasn't over the top. Had a good consistency to it and was very flavorful. For my main dish, I had the blackened fish tacos with sweet potato fries. The entree came with 3 tacos with cabbage slaw and diced tomatoes on it with a little seasoning. Tacos were delicious, and the sweet potato fries were on point. Services was very good, and this place does give a vibe that you are in a seafood joint, somewhere by the water, even though Ashburn is not close to any large body of water. We experienced no such issue at Leesburg which we tried out for the first time..and it definitely had a buzz Ashburn lacks. I am planning to speak to Costco so they are aware and they should put some sign around these cards that say don't expect to redeem more than 4. It's a shame. But when the manager came around to the table to see how we were doing, I let him know that I was disappointed in the food and he absolutely showed up and showed out with being able to adjust everything and let me know that he would fix it. The last time we went; it was quite busy for a Saturday evening but lucky for us there were high top tables available with full service. Service: our Waiter was friendly and warm and made small talk with us. She was super attentive and came by frequently to check on us. We asked if one of the tv channel could be charged for the game and she personally made that happen. Yay for excellent service! Food: I LOVE LOVE LOVE their angry mussels and will order it each and every time. The mussels are big and plumped and bathed in the most incredible sauce with chorizo, garlic and tomatoes. The corn muffins were very good, so maybe other items on the menu are better, but definitely don't get the crab cakes. We have been to other Ford's locations and really enjoyed their food, but this was a little off. The booth we sat in was not the cleanest, there was a framed picture in the booth that had not been cleaned in quite some time, had a little unappetizing feel. The service was very good. read more
