We are using Bulwark to deal with the scorpions, fire ants and assorted buggies that come to visit. We have bees and an organic garden, so we are very careful about what kind and where the pesticides are used. Bulwark has done an excellent job of keeping my property pest free. I've used them for the past year for regular treatments. This month I started seeing a lot of wasps nests on the house. For no extra charge, they took care of getting rid of all the nests as part of a regular visit. James Lightsey came this time and did an excellent job spraying inside and out in addition to knocking all the nests down AND removing them so that my little dogs would not find them to potentially try to eat like they do everything else they find in the yard. After reading the great reviews on Yelp, my husband and I were excited to have Bulwark Exterminating come and do their thing. We had out-of-town guests arriving, so we were on a tight schedule and wanted to rid our home of bugs before our guests arrived. They were supposed to arrive at 10am on a Saturday morning. By 10:25, we hadn't heard from them so we called and asked for an update. At 10:45, we got a call back that they wouldn't be able to be there until 11:30, an hour and a half after their originally scheduled arrival time. At that point we didn't have enough time to wait around for them and pick up our guests from the airport so we had to cancel our extermination appointment. I have no doubt that they would have done a great job once they arrived, but the lack of professionalism in not notifying of us the delay really turned us off. read more

Update: Since posting my review, I have been contacted multiple times by Bulwark via phone, email. I have added another star because they really have gone the extra mile to correct the situation. The owner even refunded our last visit, though I never requested a refund. I still have a problem with the review incentive, and the way it was presented to me at my first appointment. Original post: Beware! I initially contacted Bulwark based on the outstanding reviews I found on Google (before I became a Yelper.) No other competitor had so many five star ratings. Scheduling an appointment was easy, and I was confident I had found a winner. Fast forward to my first appointment when a peculiar, chatty tech paid special attention to our interests and belongings so he could make small talk and connect in any way possible. It all clicked at the end of the appointment when he told me if I write a five star review, he will receive a $15 bonus. This was after I had signed my service contract. The first application of pesticide was thorough, but subsequent sprays left much to be desired. The follow up techs were friendly in a normal way. They only spray the inside upon request, and even then it was scant at best. Also, they pushed an all natural "safer" pesticide that left us with headaches from the fumes until I insisted on only Cy-Kick. I canceled eight months into our contract after they came out to treat for ants in the yard (supposed be free) and charged me for a full scheduled treatment (which they did not do). read more

We didn't have an infestation or issue, but after hearing of scorpions at our neighbors, we signed up with Bulwark for preventative maintenance. Mason, a polite young man performed our initial treatment. After he left we noticed an oily-looking spot in the front yard, near the entry way. A few weeks later, the grass in the oily spot was dead and now months later, it is still dead. Nevermind the dead grass spot (from what we are assuming is from spilled treatment of some sort), we noticed an increase in spiders and ants after the initial treatment. So after Bulwark came out to our house, we had a dead spot in our grass and an increase in bugs. We called to cancel the service and ask for a refund for our one-year service contract. The customer service technician was very nice and assured us the refund would be processed and apologized for the problems. This was MONTHS ago. We have no refund, a dead spot in the grass, and have received multiple calls from Bulwark to schedule our next service. My husband has spoken with someone at least 5 times, each time assuring us the refund will be processed and our service is cancelled. Our last service call was this past week, where my husband once again reminded them that we have cancelled our service. The representative said "oh yeah, here it is in the notes". .. She told us a manager, "Silver" would call tomorrow... and that was 4 days ago. Interesting enough, my husband has talked to Silver before and he assured us we would be refunded. My husband and I both value hard work and customer service, and we have been quite patient with Bulwark. But they leave no option, after several months of problems, we had to write the negative review... maybe now someone will actually issue the refund and cancel our service like we were promised. read more

I can honestly say they have the friendliest, and certainly the most customer-oriented service technicians I've seen -- bar none. Martin came by yesterday for our regular treatment: I mentioned that we'd seen some bugs -- probably trying to get in from the cold, seeing as this is the coldest winter we've had in quite some time here. We've been using Bullwark for 10 years at our previous home. When we moved recently, we had not even had a chance to call and set up service yet before we saw a scorpion. I had totally forgotten about scorpions and new homes in new construction areas. I called Bulwark and they sent Tim N. out the next day. He did a great job of treating the house and re-educating me on scorpion control (it's been 10 years since we had the problem). He showed me where to plug holes that scorpions might get in through, and reminded me to call if we have any other problems. I look forward to having him come do our regular treatments. We're sticking with Bulwark in our new home!! ------------------------- We've been using Bullwark since late 2005 or early 2006 after we moved to our new home. It was new construction in a pretty primitive area so we had scorpions (I'm allergic to everything so assume that I'm also allergic to scorps) and were pretty freaked out about having them. Bullwark did an interior treatment the first time--and I think we had them do it a second time, too--and have been doing exterior treatments ever since. We still had a few scorpions the first couple of years, but I can't remember the last time we saw one. Only twice in the last 7+ years have we had any issues inside other than an occasional spider. A couple of years ago, when it got really dry outside we had some tiny ants come in but both were on a Friday and by the time I got around to calling on Monday they were gone. They call to say they're coming, they come and treat and go and leave a receipt in the door. Apparently once they get the inside "clean" and they get that outside barrier established it makes all the difference in the world. It's like the silent security system that runs in the background and it works well. We have cats so I don't like to treat inside and this has worked SO well. read more

After my first treatment with service tech Jonathan in April, I felt good about the bug situation and Bulwark. The honeymoon was over at the end of May when service tech Alan showed up. At the end of May, I called back Bulwark for a re-treatment inside my house. We had those pesky sugar ants return in our bathroom on a Saturday night, which I killed using store-bought Roach/Ant spray killer. We also had a scorpion appear in our upstairs hallway near our bedroom (again, please don't tell the wife) which I killed using a phone book (yes, they still make those) and a sledgehammer. I'm telling you, I don't mess around with this stuff. Incidentally, I may need some drywall repair now. Hit me up if you have a guy. Anyhow, I called em up and told them about the necessary re-treatment, and the woman scheduling the techs told me we were due for our outside scheduled treatment anyway, so a tech would come out and take care of both. Tech Alan showed up for the 8am appointment, and honestly he must have just woken up. His shirt was untucked -- I guess that implies it was once "tucked" which didn't seem to be the case -- and he did a strange thing when he arrived. He immediately took off his shoes when he arrived at the front door, and we talked about the problem upstairs, after which he ran back to his car to get his sprays and whatnot without putting his shoes back on. So if the point of taking off your shoes is to not dirty the house you're working in, why would you run back to your truck in your socks only to return to my house with dirty feet? I just found it odd. I told Alan about the ants in our upstairs bathroom. I said because I saw them on Sat night, I killed them using the ant spray. He told me the next time I see them, call them back out so they can trace them back to their entrance point. Um, no, I will not let them just wander and grow in population until Bulwark shows up again. So -1 point for giving me a generic textbook answer to a bug issue. Then I told Alan about the scorpion we found UPSTAIRS in our hallway near the bedroom. His response was to spray something around the windows and doors downstairs. Never went upstairs. Never asked about access upstairs (to which he had in plain sight). Before I could ask him, he went back outside to retreat the outside. When I looked at the paperwork after he left, there was no mention of re-treatment inside. It was as though he was here for outside service only, and my issues caught him off-guard. I suspect the woman scheduling the service took advantage of the timeliness of the scheduled outside service and failed to account for the inside re-treatment. One month has passed since Alan's visit and two scorpions later, I placed another call to Bulwark for another inside re-treatment. Both scorpions were downstairs this time, several weeks apart, in the areas supposedly treated one month ago. I'm not feeling good about the service so far, in more ways than one. read more

Bulwark has great customer service and knowledgeable technicians. My main service tech is Bailey and he does a thorough job in inspecting problem areas as well as explaining what and why he is doing a certain thing. Along with special service rep Robert, I am very pleased with my current service. Bulwark also is very responsive when you have a problem and you need a quick turn around. Basically, it's pest insurance. They get the bugs and rodents with prevention, but when that doesn't work, they are great in getting people out to address the urgent issue. I've used Bulwark for years at two houses and their techs are always people that I would have no problem letting into my house to do their work.
