Tried out Bufala for happy hour and it was absolutely worth it. Great value, great food. We started with their Caesar kale salad, which was a refreshing twist on the classic. As a Kerrisdale resident and a self-proclaimed pizza addict, I really wanted to like this place. I spent what I thought was unjustified on two pies, expecting the best, and I was unpleasantly surprised by how mediocre everything was. The size of the pizza was already pretty small, and the fact that the crust was so big made it even more obvious that this was not going to be enough food for 3 people. The dough itself was thin enough, but there was enough flop for me to be disappointed in even the texture. There are far too many good Neapolitan pizzas in Vancouver to be going to Bufala. read more

My experience at the restaurant yesterday was extremely unsatisfactory and shocking. When the waiter served the pizza we ordered, it was not hot--the filling inside was not fully cooked, and the crust was soft rather than crispy. When we were about to ask for the bill, the waiter asked us to wait a moment. He was not busy with other tasks but was instead chatting with a female colleague who was about to finish her shift. Only after she left did the waiter bring us the bill. At the time, we also mentioned that the pizza was not fully cooked, and he actually said, "Since there were many orders today, it's not surprising that this happened." We arrived at 8:20 last night, and there were only two tables of customers. We also didn't see a large number of takeout orders. They were only making one pizza at a time. If they had said the person making the pizza was a new hire, I would have understood better. read more

Having heard some good reviews we gave Bufala a try for pick up pizza. Our group ordered 5 - margherita; roasted pineapple & ham; pepperoni; Quattro formaggi and potato & n'duja pizza. Without a doubt the winners were the margherita and Quattro formaggi. In general the pizza are thin crust, oven roasted and good, but not really remarkable. The crust is wide, ratio of crust to centre is quite high. Unlike sone pizza that are tastier the next day, these were not. Glad we tried it but would not order again. read more

Last night I was not impressed with the waitress at the River district. She made a big error on my husband's order as she missed it and didn't put his order in as she assumed he was sharing with me. She did put his order in ASAP and got it less than 10 mins. The proper way is any servers would really comp the order as it was their error but instead she still charged us. Also, my spaghetti with prawns dish was awful the prawns were mushy didn't taste very fresh. My stomach didn't feel all that great all evening. I didn't say anything but I was too hungry. All I want to say to let the restaurant know if servers made error own up to it and don't make customers pay for it ! Very disappointed how it was dealt with!! read more

This place serves very good thin crust pizza and Tiramisu. When I went, it was very busy and my friends and I decided to get take out instead. The wait was not too long, only about 20 minutes from order to delivery. I had their version of Hawaiian and my friends had some special pork pizza and another pizza that came with a bunch of Arugula as a topping. They were all wonderful. Came here with the family for a birthday celebration. I finally got to confirmed the aromatic smell that sips out of this pizza parlour. The staff was very accommodating, and took care of our order very promptly. Our server was on top of all our orders as we had quite a number of pizzas. Here are the list: 1) Beet salad - Love 2) Caesar salad - I prefer romaine but they use Kale. We have been eating Bufala pizza for 3 years now and I consistently think of the next time I can have it as soon as we finish a pie. This review is primarily for take out. We dined in one time only. Heads up, the restaurant gets very busy at dinner time. If you are in a group I would expect to wait. We prefer to take out as we can have our own favorite wines at home but the restaurant does have a nice little wine list with Italian favorites. The cocktail list is pretty classic. My go to is the Westside, super refreshing. We have them to drink at the pizza bar while the chefs make our pie. Now for the foods I have tried. For starters the meatballs are to live for! If we weren't trying to reduce our meat consumption we would order them every time. They are so good. The arugula salad is light and tasty, another win. The pizza now...it's thin crust and perfect. The crust is some of the best I have tasted in the city. Cheese and toppings are all fresh and high quality. We alternate between the Margherita, Finocchiona, Calabria, Artichoke & Olive, and Quattro Formaggio as I am partial to marinara rather than bianco as the base. I really can't choose a favorite, they are all delicious. Get them with anchovies for a real treat. read more

My love for pizza is SO REAL. Did takeout for family dinner tonight from Bufala pizza which is one of the best, most authentic places to get pizza in Vancouver. Here we have the finocchiona (my fav), razor clam and guanciale, calabria and artichoke and olive pizzas. The marinara sauce here is one of the best that I've ever had so I'm sooo biased to the red sauces based pizzas. Everything was SO DELICIOUS. I came here for Dine Out Vancouver and the three-course menu was $35. I was here on a Sunday as well so cocktails were on special for $8. For the appetizer they had a radicchio salad with balsamic or kale caesar salad, I opted for the kale caesar. The portion size was enough to share between two people, it was nicely dressed with a hint of anchovy and lots of breadcrumbs and parmesan on top. I had the artichoke and olive pizza for my main. The pizza was too salty for my liking, but the dough was nice and thin, and the crust was very crispy. They also had three types of dipping oil which included chilli oil, herb oil, and Parmesan oil. And finally I had a chocolate cake for dessert. It came with some vanilla cream and currant sauce. The cake was very dense. I don't usually like chocolate cakes because I find them too rich, but I really enjoyed this one because was more like a fudge/brownie. read more

I had a business meeting in the area and when Fred suggested lunch my stomach immediately agreed as i hadn't had breakfast yet. Fred raved about the place and said how nice it was to have a great neighbourhood restaurant. He said the pizza were fantastic but when I saw kale Caesar salad on the menu I couldn't resist especially when Fred ordered it too, saying it was his favourite. The salad was delicious with just enough bacon for flavor but for me what stole the dish was the egg yolk perched on top. I had no idea how they cooked it but I am going to back again to see if I can figure it out. It almost seemed carmelized which doesn't make sense when we're talking about egg yolks! For Dine Out Vancouver 2018 my friend's pick was Bufala for a late Sunday afternoon lunch. We got in late-ish almost at 2pm I believe and seating was pretty easy, no reservations required. They were however out of two of three desserts on their Dine Out menu! So you might want to take that into consideration. The Dine Out menu is basically their whole menu minus some smaller appetizers. The $20 appy and pizza deal is almost half price and a goodly amount of food! Their pizzas are very thin Neapolitan/Napolitana style with a pretty generous amount of edge crust. To help you eat that crust there are three flavoured oils (that you can slather over your pizza ingredients too if you like): Chili, Herb, and Parmesan. Flavours of the oils are on the subtle side but unless you drown your pizza you (or at least I) won't feel the same heavy feeling from food being too oily. Kale Caesar Salad (normally $13) green & purple kale, grana padano, anchovy, bacon, salt-cured egg yolk -Fluffy and light and kale not particularly bitter. Really decent. Beet Salad (normally $12) salt-baked golden & purple beets, arugula, ricotta, cucumber -Mix of sweet and bitter tastes. Fun cucumber shapes and colourful slices make presentation pretty. Otherwise ok. Funghi Pizza (normally $19) roasted mushrooms, goat cheese, watercress, pecorino tartufo, bianco -Pretty decent tasting but goat cheese may not have been as evenly distributed as it could have been because I missed the pungent flavour. Artichoke & Olive (normally $16) fior di latte, kalamata olives, artichokes, garlic confit, basil, marinara -Really decent but watch out for salty olives. They add some zing to the pizza but when clumped too close together can be pretty salty. -Also watch out for soft cloves of garlic. Shouldn't be a problem unless you pick it right off the pizza thinking it's a piece of artichoke and pop it in your mouth. (Guess who did that...) We were too full and skipped dessert. The server was kind enough to leave it open during ordering -- that is, she offered to retroactively change our order from 2-course Dine Out to 3-course if we wanted to add dessert later. I had been interested in the Lemon Curd with fennel seed but they were out. In any case we were full enough that we didn't want to force it down and just left with our leftovers -- half a salad and almost one pizza worth of slices. Overall food is good, enhanced by presentation and Dine Out value for price is really excellent. Regular price is also quite okay considering the portion size. Pizza might not be quite as filling as a big chain like Pizza Hut (for example) just because the crust is much thinner. They aren't shorting you on ingredients though. Service is friendly and tries to be helpful! They mis-stepped slightly and mis-timed our pizzas such that they came out of the oven while we weren't halfway through our salads. Partly our fault for yapping so much and so long. -If you want to definitely avoid that so that you can focus on your pizza while it's fresh and hot out of the oven, you might want to ask them to hold off on actually baking it until they clear your appetizer plates. Neapolitan pizzas don't take that long to bake anyway. -This situation brought to the fore the issue of table sizing as it was really a squeeze to get both pizzas onto the table while our big salad bowls were there as well. In such a case you might consider taking the long communal table (if it's not busy) and just having much more room to move and grab slices off each other's platters. read more

Been here for dine out and on a regular day and their pizza's are good. So considering their dine out menu being $20 for a whole pizza and an appetizer. It's a really good deal. I'd come back on a regular day just 'cause it's less busy (I spent 2 hours here for dine out) and there's a lot more appetizers to choose from. Not that the bison carpacio wasn't good 'cause it was delicious (4.5/5). I tried the Calabria (4.5/5). It had lots of toppings and freshly baked so it was good. You can drizzle some oil over it or just have it as it is. I also had a slice of their zucchini pizza with bianco sauce (4/5). It looks like they removed it from the menu. This one was lighter and tasted healthier. Nonetheless it was still tasty. Since they change menus from time to time, I can't remember the pizza I first got when I went on a regular day. It was good. I also got their kale salad (2.5/5) which sadly was way too salty so my friend and I didn't finish it. I'd gladly come again to try the other pizza's and appetizers. read more

Extremely rude waiters with very insincere apologies. Unbelievably rude. Upon getting seated, I asked for a beer. I presented the waiter with pictures of my IDs and he paused and said would ask manager if alcohol could be served. He came back with a No. That was fine, and then my other friend, who also does not have any ID with her ordered the same beer, and vola, beer was served. If two pieces of ID is required, then why was I required to take it out while my other friend wasn't? When the beer was served to my friend, she offered me a sip, and upon having taking the sip, the waiter came and TOOK the glass away from me. I was in shock. Never in my 20years of dining out, the glass was actually taken away from me. That is complete racism and discrimination, to its fullest. Upon walking out the shop, the male waiter ran out to tell me that next time without two pieces of ID I would not be permitted to enter this restaurant.
