For my birthday, we were planning to celebrate at LKSD Kitchen in Downey, one of my favorite spots. But as we cruised down Florence Avenue, a cozy establishment caught our eye, and we decided to change plans and give it a shot. Upon entering, I immediately appreciated the décor--nothing too extravagant, but it felt warm and inviting. The ambience was perfect for an early evening dinner. The music was at just the right volume, setting a pleasant mood without overpowering our conversation. Before our visit, I had read numerous glowing reviews about the food, with many patrons raving about their meals. Maybe it was just my birthday bad luck, but my experience didn't quite match up. That said, I have no complaints about the service. Our waiter was attentive and checked in with us regularly, ensuring we had everything we needed. Now, for the food: We started with the Ahi Sashimi Bruschetta, which was a standout. The combination of pico de gallo, capers, and spicy remoulade was flavorful and balanced--definitely a highlight of the evening. The bone marrow, however, fell flat for me; it lacked the richness and flavor I was hoping for. For the main course, my partner chose the New York steak, while I opted for the filet mignon. We paired these with sides of garlic mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. Unfortunately, my filet mignon was underwhelming--bland and forgettable. The mac and cheese was the biggest disappointment; it had a watery texture that made it unappetizing. The garlic mash, however, was a saving grace: creamy, flavorful, and the one dish I genuinely enjoyed. Overall, it was a mixed bag. While the appetizers and service stood out, the entrees and some sides left much to be desired. We had such a great experience at Buena Mesa! Huge thank you to Ralph, Jaclyn, and the entire Buena Mesa team for making our lacrosse banquet such a special night for the second year in a row. From the beginning, Ralph and Jaclyn made the planning process easy and stress-free. They were welcoming, organized, flexible, and genuinely cared about helping us create a memorable event for our players, families, and coaches. The catering-style setup worked perfectly, and they allowed our coaches to customize the order based on what we wanted for the event. The service throughout the night was amazing. The waitstaff was attentive, friendly, and always on top of everything. The venue itself is beautiful and has such a warm and personable atmosphere. The music, TVs, and slideshow setup added so much to the experience and made the banquet feel even more personal and memorable for our team. And the food was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh, high quality, and there was plenty for everyone. So many of our players were still talking about the food the next morning. You can truly tell how much Ralph, Jaclyn, and the Buena Mesa team care about the people and community they serve. I was really excited to try this restaurant and had high hopes, but unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing. I went on Frank Sinatra night, and while the music was great, everything else fell short. I made reservations but had to order my food to go because my daughter was sick. I ordered the free-range chicken and the sautéed mushroom chicken plates, and after just a few bites, I knew something was wrong. I never throw away food, but this was so bad that I had no choice. My daughter even said it tasted like hospital food and couldn't continue eating. What was supposed to be a fun night turned into a reminder of the difficult nights in the hospital. To make matters worse, I reached out to the restaurant on March 7 (day I bought the food), and finally spoke with Samantha on March 8, and was told the owner would be informed but that I would have to wait for a return call. It's now been a week with no follow-up, and it's made me question whether they genuinely care about customer feedback or their reputation. I tried to keep this between us and give them the benefit of the doubt, but the lack of response speaks volumes. This was an incredibly frustrating experience and I am highly disappointed. read more

Upon picking up and returning home, I discovered the steak was significantly undercooked, exhibiting a raw, bright red interior. This rendered it inedible. I immediately contacted the restaurant, but was informed that neither the chef nor manager was available to address the issue. I was offered only the option of leaving my contact information for a return call, which I did. However, I received no subsequent communication regarding a resolution or refund. I also attempted to contact Verdugos via Instagram, providing photographic evidence of the undercooked steak, but my message remains unanswered. I am disappointed with the quality of the food and, more importantly, the lack of responsiveness and customer service provided. This experience has unfortunately left me with a negative impression of your establishment, and I do not intend to return. read more
