Came here to have dinner on a whim. Pleasantly surprised with their weekly special, which was spaghetti for $16. We decided on another special which included two baby back ribs, one spare and one beef rib for $16.95. The special also included baked potato, super salad and a piece of garlic bread all in which were very yummy. With the economy being what it is, we felt we got our moneys worth. Dropped by for a late lunch and was seated right away. Wasn't too busy but quite loud with the table near us. The staff was somewhat friendly. I used to come here all the time when I was younger, but I hadn't been back in a few years. Unfortunately, the food has definitely changed. It doesn't taste the same, and the prices have gone up to the point where it no longer feels worth it. I ordered my usual: the Queen Size Prime Rib with beef barley soup and all fries. The prime rib was honestly terrible -- I'm not sure if it was the cut or the au jus, but something tasted off and seemed overcooked for medium rare. The beef barley soup was just okay, nowhere near as good as I remember. The garlic bread was still good, and the fries were just plain, nothing special. Overall, I left really disappointed. I have been coming here since the 60s. Not much has changed except the prices. The food is good and the portions are large. The prices are a little too steep. However, the blue cheese dressing is to die for. The parking is a nightmare, but usually worth it. The service is usually good, but can be reasonably slow on busy nights, to be expected. I've been coming to this C&P's for 53 years. That's because my parents were coming here before I was born, and then I was here as a baby I've had meals that were great, and meals that were just Meh. The quality has been I consistent the last 10 years or so, but lately it's been really good. It got back to the quality I remember from 20 years ago. The only complaint I had this trip is that it seemed like the ranch dressing was not the same. I used to buy jars of it to take home, but not this time. It tasted processed and not homemade. Oh well. I have loved this bbq chain for over 20 years but today I drove all the way from Alhambra for take out and everything was bad, especially the service because whoever packed my order didn't include salad dressing. I thought it was dressing but it was the sour cream for the potato. Why should I have to double check when I asked for it before I left? Fries were burnt and hard and it just was not a good experience. Food was meh. waisted 50 bucks on two plates and could've just drove to moos bbq. Still one of my favorite places to eat. I have been going to various Chris' & Pitt's restaurants for over thirty years. This time I ordered the large Brady cut Prime Rib. I figured I would splurge since I had a recent birthday. The salad that came with it was crispy and fresh. I have always enjoyed their homemade French dressing which is tangy and slightly sweet. The packet of saltines are Gamesa Saladitas which were very fresh. Lots of places serve stale cracker packets but not here. The prime rib was ordered medium rare but was closer to medium in temperature. It was still very good tasting. I ordered the spaghetti as a side instead of the barbecue beans and French fries. The spaghetti is still my favorite with its very meaty sauce and large singular meatball. It is a spaghetti that I measure all others with. Very delicious with a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. The garlic toast came with a mushroom flavored au jus that was perfect for dipping. All in all, it was a pleasant lunch. I have previously enjoyed their "Dinner for Two" with beef ribs before. It is a good deal in itself if one has a dining companion. The service here was very polite and efficient. A separate entrance and waiting area just for take out orders is a nice convenience. Big change restrooms are more separate instead of going in one door they are separate. Still rustic feeling but very clean throughout the restaurant. Preface- In recent days I've been learning of many Establishments in the East LA and San Gabriel areas; and my visit to Chris' & Pitt's was no different. Thank you to Vince V for selecting this place and to Niki S for the invite. Here is my story: I journey to the SoCal area and one of my visits was to Chris' & Pitt's. It was not too far out of my usual place to stay when visiting and it was a Sunday so driving over to Downey was a snap. I'm glad I made that journey because this place has got to be a "blast from the past" as the furniture and interior was that of an old iconic steak/rib house. I love it! (reminded me of the old Love's a couple other places in the South Bay area to be truthful) Our server was so very polite considering we asked him for this and that; and more this and that as he politely accommodated. The menu was a busy menu (and our server knew just how to navigate as he again politely walked us through the do's and the maybe's. Niki and I opted for the Broasted Chicken. (Haven't had broasted chicken in DECADES) I'm so glad I tried C& P's Broasted Chicken as moistness of the chicken has got to be one of the best ways to eat chicken. AND it's a good thing we shared because it was a huge amount of food. In addition to the chicken came sides.... YUMMY Thank you to my dining partners for inviting me and introducing me to this place. Would I journey back? YUP even if that is not the area I'm usually at, it's not too far of a drive so I will definitely head back there one day. This place is like an old-time diner. There's nothing fancy about the food, their salad is just lettuce straight out the bag , and the portions are huge--definitely big enough to share a plate. Our group has come here a couple of times, with our most recent visit being for Friendsgiving. We noticed the "broasted chicken" on the menu and decided to give it a try not knowing what's broasted chicken. It is actually fried chicken using the pressure cook, master, It takes 20 minutes to prepare, so you have to order a little ahead of time. When it arrived, I had a wing, and it was pretty good! It had the crispiness of fried chicken, but the meat was also fall-off-the-bone tender from being pressure-cooked. Plus, it wasn't too salty or greasy. Normally, I enjoy their prime rib, but I'm cutting back on beef, so I skipped it this time. Our waiter, Andrew, was probably the best employee I've seen for a long time . Honestly the restaurant is pretty dated. The inside decor hasn't really changed much in the years i've been off and on coming here. The food quality has slowly decreased over the years as places try to keep a float. I mainly only come now a days when I have a craving for their onion flower. From there my main meal is often one of the sandwiches or one of their burgers. If I had a hankering for a steak i might as well go up the road to steak n stein. The place can be reasonably priced if you choose the correct items. Will I come back, sure most likely, but sadly not super regularly. We came to the Downey Chris & Pitt's on Thursday. We hadn't been in years and it was as if time stood still. It looked the same and was just as good as I remember. We hadn't lunch specials that were bbq chicken & ribs. Ordered a full order of the addicting onion rings! Omg they are a must ! We enjoyed those the most! This restaurant has been around for over 70 years. This location is very historical and has all the original inhabitants. I ordered the baby back ribs with beans and corn. It was flavorsome. I've been eating at C&Ps since I was a child. Decided to stop in and check out their new "Weekly Specials" last night. Was seated quickly and the overall service was fine. The food on the other hand was terrible, specifically the Rib Combo. The beef rib was dry, overcooked, and loaded with burnt black bbq sauce, nothing edible. I assume the rib was from days ago and just reheated. The spare rib seemed to be fresh but mostly chewy fat and seemed undercooked, without the wood smoke flavor I remember from this place. I kind of suspect they serve the days old leftover ribs for their specials and the freshly cooked for the regular priced entrees. Whatever the case I will not be back anytime soon. Hopefully I will have better luck at the Bellflower location. read more

I usually go to the other location, but since it was closed - my friend and I came to this location. We walked in and... waited to be seated. There were no other people in front of us, but we waited. Several waitresses saw us, but didn't acknowledge us at all. About 10 minutes later, a big group came in and they finally came over to seat us. Service was quick - we sat down, ordered and food came out within a good amount of time. As always, the food was good. Unfortunately, our waitress pretty much left us alone for the rest of the meal. We couldn't get anything from her - refill on water, condiments, the bill, etc. In the end, after we were finished, we waited again for someone to get me a box and the check. If the restaurant was busy, I could understand the slower service. However, it was not packed and there were more workers than in previous visits. The environment is still how I remember it and the food is still solid if you're looking for a decent/affordable bite of BBQ. Chris and Pitts is probably one of my most vivid childhood memories. We ate here all.the.time. Today I brought my mom for a pre Mother's-Day dinner and I was so incredibly disappointed. Service: 0/10 This service was absolutely abysmal. I walked in, there was a man already waiting in front of me to be seated. There were FIVE women behind the counter. Five. Not of them acknowledged the man in front of me or myself. The man in front of me said he'd been waiting five minutes without being acknowledged. Finally, I asked if we seat ourselves. One of the ladies answered that there was a hostess and she would seat us. She was polite, but gosh, nobody had the initiative to say someone will be right with you!? This was literally within a minute of being there. I should've know and chose somewhere else. On to the meals. We waited at least 15 minutes before anyone acknowledge our Table. Finally, when the waiter came we ordered anticipating the lack of efficiency. After 20 mins, our salads were brought. We didn't even have our drinks or silverware. We eventually got those. Another 30 minutes later, four out of five peoples orders came. As I type this, I'm still waiting for my food. Food: 7/10 The food we did get was good/fine. It's nostalgic for me, so I like it. This is not about the food. Food was great and fresh. This, unfortunately was about the service received in our last visit. The ambiance of this restaurant was ruined by the service received. We were meeting family there for our mother's birthday since our house water had been shut down for an emergency main line repairs causing us to change plans. There were 6 of us. Our waiter took about 10 minutes to greet us and when he did it was very stoic and unfriendly. He was inattentive to the point we had to ask for our condiments 3 times before recovering the plastic small cups of ketchup, honey mustard and blue cheese. We had to walk up to the drink station and ask for water since it didn't come 20 min after the second time we asked. When we were handing over our plates from our appetizers to make space he went about 10 feet and through them into a bin making a large crash noise multiple times like he was inconvenienced. Further more once we paid we surprised to see an automatic gratuity since our party was 6 people leaving a bad taste in our mouth feeling like he truly did not try to serve us, connecting that he knew he'd get a large tip. I would argue that he did not even do the bare minimum serving us. We also told him we were there celebrating and he did not even engage in a conversation with us. We watched another waiter hustling providing attention to each of his tables in different areas and he was friendly. We also even saw him singing happy birthday with another group. We know not everyone has their best days and being in the service industry is hard, especially after holidays... but this was a wild experience for celebrating a joyous occasion and was distracting to our group for the duration of the night. My aunt and I went to eat at the Chris and Pitts in Downey, California for lunch. I wanna say that the service and the food was wonderful. They have plenty of tables in the back that are wheelchair handicap accessible and booths if you prefer. There's also handicap parking right in front of the restaurant. The food is wonderful. They have a great selection of desserts too. I would really recommend for an appetizer the onion flower it's delicious. It's a must. They have public restrooms for men and women indoors for their customers. A lot of their employees have been there for years and I just wanna shout out Jose. He was our server that day and he treated us very well and he went above and beyond for me and my aunt are visiting the Chris Pitts and Downey and even help my aunt out who is partially disabled to her car thank you Chris and Pitts.
