I was really looking forward to dining at Dal Rae after hearing so many great things, but unfortunately my experience was disappointing from start to finish. We arrived around 6:40 p.m. and were told there would be a wait until approximately 8:00 p.m., so we waited at the bar. While we waited, there was a very strong chlorine-like odor that was noticeable enough to stand out. We were seated around 7:30 p.m. shortly after a large party of about 12 people. I completely understand that large parties require extra attention, but from the moment we sat down, it felt like our table became an afterthought. Our server never introduced himself, never offered drink recommendations or asked if we'd like anything beyond the complimentary water, and rarely checked on us throughout the meal. Most of his attention seemed to be focused on the large party which was weird because he was just the assistant to the server who was assigned the table. The most frustrating part came after we finished eating. Our food had already been boxed up, and we waited approximately 30 minutes just to receive our check. Eventually, we had to ask the hostess for help because we hadn't seen our server. She explained she couldn't access our bill and suggested we find him. A few minutes later, he walked over, silently dropped the check on the table without saying a single word, and immediately returned to the large party. We left feeling forgotten and genuinely disappointed by the level of service, especially considering Dal Rae's reputation as an upscale restaurant. However, what happened next is the real reason for this review. After we paid and left the restaurant, our server followed us outside to question why we felt his service was poor. He began explaining how long he'd been serving and insisted he would never intentionally provide bad service. Regardless of his intentions, this was incredibly inappropriate and made me feel uncomfortable. Guests should be able to leave honest feedback and leave the restaurant without being confronted by an employee in the parking lot. I've dined at many restaurants over the years, and I have never had a server follow me outside over a tip or written comment. That crossed a professional boundary and turned what was already a disappointing evening into an unsettling one. I'm not writing this review because service was slow--restaurants get busy, and I understand that. I'm writing it because no guest should ever feel intimidated or confronted after their meal. I sincerely hope management addresses this situation because it reflects poorly on what is otherwise known as a respected establishment. Well after hearing about the Dal Rae and wanting to go here for several years we finally went the other night. Sadly I was disappointed with the experience. Primarily the food and mixing up our order which was very clearly expressed. Our steak orders were reversed. I asked for my bone in ribeye to be medium well and sliced and it came whole and medium. My wife's ribeye cap we asked for medium and can medium well and sliced. ‍At over $70 per steak they should get it right and I probably should've pointed it out it didn't want to start returning food over an hour into the experience. The table side Caesar act was cool and the labor is probably what made it $40 for two. My steak had almost no sear to it which is what I'm looking for in a ribeye. Baked potato was nothing special and garlic mash potatoes were very underwhelming and not very warm. Will I go back? Yes but I won't be investing in their red meat selections unless it's prime rib and that's still a maybe. Maybe lunch. Service was very good and accommodating just wish they got the order right. Since it was our first time they brought us a dessert to share which is getting them a 3 star instead or a two star. My cousin talks very highly of this restaurant but it didn't really meet my expectations. We had a 5:30 reservation in the covered patio area but since we had an additional person, they moved us into a table in the bar. They started us off with warm bread and butter. Then right before the food actually comes, they give you another basket of bread but this time it's cheesey garlic bread. Every entree comes with veggies (not sure if it's seasonal/rotating but we all got broccoli) and a choice of side. I ordered the 10oz prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. We also ordered the seabass. Baked potato is served tableside. My prime rib was a little too overcooked. The seabass was pretty good. It was a thick and tender piece. Now why I'm giving it 2 stars.. our server. I caught her rolling her eyes a couple times as she's walking away from our table. I didn't think we were being complicated but apparently she did. It was not giving "steakhouse service" (but what do you expect, it's Pico Rivera). The food was also mediocre at best. Everything was under seasoned. Quite frankly, it reminded us of "cruise food." The ambience is dark and loud. Not sure if the rest of the restaurant was just as dark since they seated us in the bar. The tables are very close together and there's not much walking space. Just a heads up, they only offer valet parking for $6, but it's quick and convenient and made arrival easy. One thing that really stood out was the ambiance. it felt different from most restaurants in the best way. It had an elevated, lively energy while still feeling comfortable and welcoming, striking that perfect balance between upscale and relaxed. I had the pleasure of dining at the Dal Rae for the first time and I was blown away in every aspect how amazing everything was, every detail, every bite in an atmosphere that's very hard to find these days. Let's start with a little history of the Dal Rae, it opened in 1951 and has been sharing its extraordinary menu and dining experience to many including my wife's parents and family who dined there regularly for over 40 years. My wife's parents and her sisters would go there regularly as children. The Dal Rae offers a unique "old school" charm from the classic dining room vibe that you seldom see, don't get me wrong there are still a few of these places around but you know I experienced so much that I just don't see anymore. The dark dining room lit by table candles and dim lighting, featuring a long hardwood bar with the same lighting making amazing cocktails past the stage that hosts live entertainment to the dining rooms with the same lighting with booths with clothed tables, baskets of breads and a relish tray. The entire staff is friendly and honored to have you in their dining room. Let's talk about the food, a good sized menu offering some old school appetizers as well as your others, fine cuts of meats, fresh seafoods and aged beef. My entree came with a house salad that I have to say was the best dinner salad I have ever had, I am not sure if it was the fact that the salad was prepared and tossed with the house made blue cheese dressing with large chunks of blue cheese with simple additions but every bite was incredible. If I wasn't in such a classy establishment I would have kicked the plate . (But I didn't) our entrees came after our salads and some had French Onion Soup. My brother in law/wife and his brother/wife and sister/husband along with my wife filled our table. My brother in law and his siblings also dined at the Dal Rae with their parents when they were young and still come to this day. So there was a lot of great food on our table as well as great family. I ordered the Steak Diane a dish rarely found these days, I was so excited to have this again and just as excited to try it at Dal Rae, as it was prepared table side you could instantly smell the aromas of Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, butter and other ingredients then the brandy with a flash of fire creating the fragrant decadent sauce only to be found in Steak Diane. It was Molto Bene in every bite e tutti delizioso! All our dishes were simply incredible, great flavors and served with such class and old school charm. We also had the pleasure of the owner coming to our table and sharing some history of the restaurant and his family commitments to serving the community, people from Los Alamitos Race Track, the jockeys, the owners, the fans and continuing to do so. We all were so full we passed on the dessert menu but if I could fit it into my leg I would have gone with the Bananas Foster.....so I guess I need to come back for more. I had dinner here last night and it was pointed out to me, that I didn't review this place. Now, I'm almost positive I did - but maybe I did compose one; left it as a draft and somehow deleted it. Anyway, here goes ... I was introduced to Dal Rae by a fellow Yelper who has never steered me wrong. We, along with others, had a tradition of dining here on Halloween which this year, would be the first time back, since before the pandemic. However, it was decided to dine last night (Sunday) as Friday was not only Halloween, the Dodgers were playing and traffic on Fridays is a true nightmare. Valet parking. $6. Or you can find parking on the street. Inside, it's an old school steakhouse. Host/hostess stand as soon as you enter. Straight ahead is the bar and lounge and a dining room straight back. To the left, is a private room which last night was in use. To the right is the main dining area plus a garden room, which is where we chose to sit last night. Couldn't figure out why it was so busy until we found the menu celebrating Dal Rae's 67th anniversary. We thought it was just Dodger fans out to partying the World Series win. Service was excellent. The team took care of us all the way down to boxing up our leftovers, tableside. Not that I'd worry about staff messing with my food at this place, but others, I have to admit, it's in the back of my mind. Friendly. Polite. Personable. Professional. Not arrogant, nor inattentive or cold at all. As for the food, see pics. Flavorful, juicy, tender steaks. Fresh, hearty, savory sides. Decadent and silky desserts (last night: Caesar Salad Hears of Romaine, creamy dressing; Dal Rae Pepper Filet Mignon, Pan seared with onion, bacon and peppercorn mixture and Tiramisu Expresso, mascarpone, lady fingers and creme anglaise). The somber lighting inside set the mood for a relaxed, leisurely lunch. I ordered the fresh Chilean Sea Bass ala Ben from the lunch menu. Another delicious work lunch at Dal Rae. Got here around 11:50am for a 12pm reservation. Got seated in the Garden Patio, and it was super decked out in holiday decorations. Even had a big Christmas tree. I got the famous pepper steak (like always). This time it came with broccoli. We didn't get any appetizers this time, so we got dessert instead. What a gem! I never knew about this restaurant nor had I heard about it. Somehow caught a foodie influencer visiting Dal Rae and realized I've never been here. We arrived for dinner and the only Parking available is valet. There is no parking on the street or across the street. Very reasonable fee $6-7. Walking into the restaurant from the bright sunlight outside, you'll need to adjust your eyes once inside. You check in with your reservation. It's dim and cozy and once you can focus you'll see the old school charm. Decore of art deco with 60s charm. First order of business was a golden pineapple martini. This was like having a straw right out of a pineapple. Martini wasn't very strong to me, but then server did mention that drinks can be adjusted if you prefer. I preferred to walk out in a straight line so the amount of alcohol was fine. The calamari with the cocktail sauce and the other one was like a white oyster cream that is similar to what you would have in a seafood pasta. The batter somehow had a slight taste of fried chicken batter? Not sure, but I would order this again. If I dine at a new place and they serve prime rib then that's what I'm ordering. Always a good thing to know of places with above average to exceptional prime rib. We both went with the 10oz. medium. Delicious. Cooked the way I like it and not fatty. The meat itself is tender. You can ask for more au jus if you like to dip. I was having a good time and had not tried the sides. Rice pilaf was good, creamed spinach was a bit runny, but the taste was good, baked potato seemed like a small size compared to most places. This didn't bother me, since I do not focus on potatoes much. We enjoyed a celebratory chocolate lava brownie - delish! And, ordered the tiramisu which was average and didn't knock the socks off my feet. Next time I'm trying their sundaes - spied another table that had a gigantic bowl! Lydia was our server. Friendly and attentive. She's great. The lounge looked relaxing and calm. Lounge singer was there (Thursday nights) - great jazzy soft tone music. Too salty for my taste & the croutons had a burnt taste! Came here for my anniversary dinner with my husband and I was very excited to be seated very quick. The service was amazing and the staff were very attentive to our needs which is always a plus! The ambiance was so nice and relaxing along with how delicious the food was and the drinks were on point. The dirty martinis were made to perfection with no overpowering taste of olive brine it was just in my opinion "PERFECT"! I've been wanting to try this place for the longest time since they've been featured on the news & I discovered that they've been around for many decades. Since we live nearby, Husband & I finally got to try this place. We came here for dinner on a weekend. It was packed but bc we made reservations, we didn't wait long to get seated. Ambiance had an old classic feel & service was excellent. I'm not a huge meat eater but I had to try their well known pepper filet mignon & it did not disappoint. Hubby had the wagyu flat iron steak & it was very tender & juicy. Both meat were seasoned & cooked perfectly. As for drinks, we ordered a cocktail each to start with & then a glass of red to pair with our dish. Cocktails were solid. Valentines Dinner Fail! I wish I had a better experience here but the service here and the table next to us making racist remarks ultimately tainted my experience. It also wasn't advertised anywhere on their websites or socials that the valentines dinner had started 2/13 so we were a bit disappointed with the limited menu. FOOD 4/5 My steak here was great! Cesar salad was also delicious and my favorite was the chocolate cake! My steak did come out rare but then was sent back and came back perfect. SERVICE 2/5 My server Danielle wasn't the most attentive or friendly and throughout our dinner, felt like she was trying to educate us. For example, when my steak came out rare, she argued and said it wasn't rare but medium, even when compared to my partners steak which was cooked medium, she insisted it was medium but if i want it more cooked she would send it back. It didn't make us feel good. She was also more attentive to the larger party next to us. We had to grab her for the check and the dessert. It just wasn't the service I was expecting. She just did the bare minimum, nothing above and beyond. When we asked why the valentine's day menu was there the day before valentine's day she said they were extremely busy, but there was also empty tables around us throughout dinner. I wish this was advertised. I want to shoutout the bussers though who were very friendly and very attentive. AMBIANCE 4/5 This place was cute, loved the vibes. I think what killed the ambiance and vibe for me was the large table next to us who was making racist remarks about latinos. This is one of those places that withstands the test of time. Trends don't exist here. This place has never been an instagrammable spot, and it never will be because its not the cool spot that takes a good picture. This place is an institution. It probably hasn't been remodeled since it opened and we are all happy it hasn't been or it would have lost its charm. Step in here and you'll get taken back to the days that Northrup Grumman used to be across the street, and the b2 was still top secret. Some old timers come here for weekly dinners, but some of us come to celebrate anniversary's and special occasions. The service here is immaculate. You will never not come here and not get treated like family. The workers all remember to come and have a conversation with you and make you feel at home. The pepper steak is what everyone comes for. The table side Caesar is a requirement as well. It's hard to put into words what this place represents but aside from that, the food is delicious. The food and cocktails are on the expensive side, but sometimes you just gotta live a little. Make sure you dress up here too, you'll kill the vibe if you come in a T-shirt and maybe get kicked out. I came here for the first time to celebrate my mom's birthday. My brother had been here before and really liked it, so he wanted to take us here. This review is written in comparison to Ruth Chris' Steak House and Summit House, which I think are similar in pricing and menu. Atmosphere wise, Dal Rae is very lively, crowded, and popular. There is live music, and the noise level is quite high so it might not be the best place to have a conversation. Lighting is also very dim. I found the service to be good (no complaints), but I personally felt that the service I received at Ruth's Chris and Summit House was much more attentive and personal. The most positive thing that stood out about the service here, though, was that our server asked me if I wanted more au jus for my prime rib; when he brought the au jus, he poured some for my prime rib and for my brother (because I had shared with him a portion of my prime rib). I was impressed by his consideration. We ordered the Pepper Steak, Poor Man's Pepper steak, Chilean sea bass, and prime rib. The pepper steak was VERY good. We were all impressed with the flavoring and seasoning. My brother ordered the Poor Man's steak to save money, and it looked exactly like the pepper steak so my parents didn't know that he had ordered the more affordable version (which helped with the experience so that my parents didn't have to feel bad about it). We thought the Chilean Sea Bass was mediocre; it didn't have any special seasoning and honestly tasted fishy to me. The prime rib was juicy but didn't have any notable flavors; I preferred Summit House's prime rib more. Regarding sides: although the creamed spinach and creamed corn were good, we thought the creamed spinach at Ruth's Chris and the creamed corn at Summit House were much better. Regarding parking, there is street parking in the neighborhood but it can be hard to find. We ended up having to do valet parking. Would recommend getting a reservation. read more

You already know It's going to be a great spot if there's valet! Ambiance: We can hear for a DineLA dinner. It's fancy as you walk in. Amber lights Darkened room. It's giving 50s vibes and I'm loving it. If you're a bit early for a reservation you're able to chill at the bar and sip on some lemon water. We were guided to our table which I heard is where Jimmy Hoffa sat. Ironically next to the exit! lol. Food: So DineLA offers a 3 course dinner for $75. I started off with a ceaser salad. The salad was good! Flavorful. For the main entree I got the Parmesan crusted Chilean Sea Bass with broccoli florets. Okay I normally don't get fish but I was intrigued and did not disappoint at all! It was so soft and melted in your mouth. you were also able to get a side and of course got my mashed potatoes. Let me tell you they even bring this cheese garlicy toast. I had to take the rest home! I opted for the tiramisu for dessert. Omg. Again just heaven in your mouth. My plus one had the a simple salad, steak with rice pilaf and tiramisu Would I come here again? Omg yessss. read more

I have been patronizing Dal Rae for over 30 years. I don't live close by but I still make the drive up 605 for my sea bass a la Ben fix. It's always perfect . Flakey, tender, moist and always perfectly seasoned. Even the broccoli is perfectly done. The bread is wonderful. A chewy crust with a soft interior served with next level butter. The food is one thing. The service is another. It is always attentive and timely. Tonight Lidia was helping us. Always above & beyond to give us a great experience. I have spent many special events here so it has a place in my heart everytime I come back. The interior is old school but not outdated. I know I'm not alone in loving this place.
