We came here to celebrate my 30th birthday on March 14th and had a 7:45pm reservation. despite how busy it was, everything flowed seamlessly from start to finish. Just a heads up, they only offer valet parking for $6, but it's quick and convenient and made arrival easy. One thing that really stood out was the ambiance. it felt different from most restaurants in the best way. It had an elevated, lively energy while still feeling comfortable and welcoming, striking that perfect balance between upscale and relaxed. We started with a pomegranate margarita, a Paloma, and some delicious cheese bread that set the tone for the night. For dinner, we ordered the surf and turf with a perfectly cooked medium rare filet mignon and Chilean sea bass that truly melts in your mouth. They say it's the best restaurant in town and they may be right! Had a wonderful time celebrating my husband's birthday! The service was impeccable. Our reservations were made online and we checked in no problem. Many guests were dressed up classically for a steakhouse! Our waitress was kind and friendly answering all our questions about salt level of food etc. for some sensitive eaters in our group. The lighting and cleanliness of the restaurant were moody, excellent, and well kept. Now for the food, nothing disappoints! Everything was delicious. The bread for appetizers were warm and fresh. Went for Mothers Day dinner and had cocktails, appetizers and entrees. The menu was pared down, but was still able to special order the veal chop with mushroom sauce which was excellent as always. We also ordered the Chilean sea bass which was also excellent. The pour on the cocktails was strong. I was looking forward to their dessert soufflés but that was one item that was not included on this special menu. I had dinner here last night and it was pointed out to me, that I didn't review this place. Now, I'm almost positive I did - but maybe I did compose one; left it as a draft and somehow deleted it. We, along with others, had a tradition of dining here on Halloween which this year, would be the first time back, since before the pandemic. However, it was decided to dine last night (Sunday) as Friday was not only Halloween, the Dodgers were playing and traffic on Fridays is a true nightmare. Valet parking. $6. Or you can find parking on the street. Inside, it's an old school steakhouse. Host/hostess stand as soon as you enter. Straight ahead is the bar and lounge and a dining room straight back. To the left, is a private room which last night was in use. To the right is the main dining area plus a garden room, which is where we chose to sit last night. Couldn't figure out why it was so busy until we found the menu celebrating Dal Rae's 67th anniversary. We thought it was just Dodger fans out to partying the World Series win. Service was excellent. The team took care of us all the way down to boxing up our leftovers, tableside. Not that I'd worry about staff messing with my food at this place, but others, I have to admit, it's in the back of my mind. Friendly. Polite. Personable. Professional. Not arrogant, nor inattentive or cold at all. As for the food, see pics. Flavorful, juicy, tender steaks. Fresh, hearty, savory sides. Decadent and silky desserts (last night: Caesar Salad Hears of Romaine, creamy dressing; Dal Rae Pepper Filet Mignon, Pan seared with onion, bacon and peppercorn mixture and Tiramisu Expresso, mascarpone, lady fingers and creme anglaise). Since we live nearby, Husband & I finally got to try this place. We came here for dinner on a weekend. It was packed but bc we made reservations, we didn't wait long to get seated. Valentines Dinner Fail! I wish I had a better experience here but the service here and the table next to us making racist remarks ultimately tainted my experience. It also wasn't advertised anywhere on their websites or socials that the valentines dinner had started 2/13 so we were a bit disappointed with the limited menu. FOOD 4/5 My steak here was great! Cesar salad was also delicious and my favorite was the chocolate cake! My steak did come out rare but then was sent back and came back perfect. SERVICE 2/5 My server Danielle wasn't the most attentive or friendly and throughout our dinner, felt like she was trying to educate us. For example, when my steak came out rare, she argued and said it wasn't rare but medium, even when compared to my partners steak which was cooked medium, she insisted it was medium but if i want it more cooked she would send it back. It didn't make us feel good. She was also more attentive to the larger party next to us. We had to grab her for the check and the dessert. It just wasn't the service I was expecting. She just did the bare minimum, nothing above and beyond. When we asked why the valentine's day menu was there the day before valentine's day she said they were extremely busy, but there was also empty tables around us throughout dinner. I wish this was advertised. I want to shoutout the bussers though who were very friendly and very attentive. AMBIANCE 4/5 This place was cute, loved the vibes. What a gem! I never knew about this restaurant nor had I heard about it. Somehow caught a foodie influencer visiting Dal Rae and realized I've never been here. We arrived for dinner and the only Parking available is valet. There is no parking on the street or across the street. Very reasonable fee $6-7. Walking into the restaurant from the bright sunlight outside, you'll need to adjust your eyes once inside. You check in with your reservation. It's dim and cozy and once you can focus you'll see the old school charm. Decore of art deco with 60s charm. First order of business was a golden pineapple martini. This was like having a straw right out of a pineapple. Martini wasn't very strong to me, but then server did mention that drinks can be adjusted if you prefer. I preferred to walk out in a straight line so the amount of alcohol was fine. The calamari with the cocktail sauce and the other one was like a white oyster cream that is similar to what you would have in a seafood pasta. The batter somehow had a slight taste of fried chicken batter? Not sure, but I would order this again. If I dine at a new place and they serve prime rib then that's what I'm ordering. Always a good thing to know of places with above average to exceptional prime rib. We both went with the 10oz. medium. Delicious. Cooked the way I like it and not fatty. The meat itself is tender. You can ask for more au jus if you like to dip. I was having a good time and had not tried the sides. Rice pilaf was good, creamed spinach was a bit runny, but the taste was good, baked potato seemed like a small size compared to most places. This didn't bother me, since I do not focus on potatoes much. We enjoyed a celebratory chocolate lava brownie - delish! And, ordered the tiramisu which was average and didn't knock the socks off my feet. Next time I'm trying their sundaes - spied another table that had a gigantic bowl! Lydia was our server. We both ordered the surf and turf, which included Chilean sea bass and filet mignon with broccoli and a baked potato with all the fixings. The garlic Parmesan bread was amazing! The baked potato was average but on the larger size, the filet was very tender and cooked perfectly to medium just the way we like it, and the sea bass was the standout. It was the softest, most flavorful Chilean sea bass I've ever had. To top it off, we were treated to two single servings of lava cake for the birthday and for being first-timers, which was a lovely touch. I came here for the first time to celebrate my mom's birthday. My brother had been here before and really liked it, so he wanted to take us here. This review is written in comparison to Ruth Chris' Steak House and Summit House, which I think are similar in pricing and menu. Atmosphere wise, Dal Rae is very lively, crowded, and popular. There is live music, and the noise level is quite high so it might not be the best place to have a conversation. Lighting is also very dim. I found the service to be good (no complaints), but I personally felt that the service I received at Ruth's Chris and Summit House was much more attentive and personal. The most positive thing that stood out about the service here, though, was that our server asked me if I wanted more au jus for my prime rib; when he brought the au jus, he poured some for my prime rib and for my brother (because I had shared with him a portion of my prime rib). I was impressed by his consideration. We ordered the Pepper Steak, Poor Man's Pepper steak, Chilean sea bass, and prime rib. The pepper steak was VERY good. We were all impressed with the flavoring and seasoning. My brother ordered the Poor Man's steak to save money, and it looked exactly like the pepper steak so my parents didn't know that he had ordered the more affordable version (which helped with the experience so that my parents didn't have to feel bad about it). We thought the Chilean Sea Bass was mediocre; it didn't have any special seasoning and honestly tasted fishy to me. The prime rib was juicy but didn't have any notable flavors; I preferred Summit House's prime rib more. Regarding sides: although the creamed spinach and creamed corn were good, we thought the creamed spinach at Ruth's Chris and the creamed corn at Summit House were much better. We went with family for several celebrations on a Saturday night. You have to valet park for $6. It's dark and old timey inside. There was bread, & spicy corn chips on the table. Then cheese toast arrived which was yummy. I had the prime rib and he had the surf & turf special(filet mignon & Chilean sea bass). They came with broccoli and a potato. It was all good. Steak is always delicious. The atmosphere is always lively as the restaurant is pretty busy and there is usually live music. The cheesy bread is fantastic and the gold brick sundae is also very good. Sometimes the service can be a bit slow, but the food makes up for it. Definitely recommend! read more

An astounding restaurant in this day and age, like a Time Machine to another era, the ambience of this establishment is world class, the service impeccably attentive and the food, well few places consistently match the quality of Dal Rae. We've dined here a few time and intend to do so many more. The Prime Rib is 10/10, no notes, not salty like so many places these days. My wife pronounced her Halibut order as the best she'd ever had and her baked potato as "delectable ". Their sides and appetizers are all great, we plan to go one time and just order a few sides and a salad (their vast salad selections are served HUGE, really enough for two). We had tuna sashimi on toast recently, it was a creative tasty dish, never had anything like it. The desserts are always a nice finish and the in-house valet always efficient. There is not enough praise I can possibly heap on Dal Rae, if you don't have a Time Machine to 1959, this is your only choice for fantastic dining midcentury style. read more

Second time coming here, first time was a great experience gave me 1950s goodfellas vibes! The service was great real traditional where the server was really there to make sure your experience was great! The food is honestly the best quality best steaks! Unfortunately we went again and the server was young and honestly poor service never came to check on us felt like it killed the whole experience we originally had. Valet parking only! No self parking or street parking! Brought my hubby here for his birthday and sadly won't be returning. Ordered the oysters, special chopped salad, chilean sea bass, and a 8oz filet mignon. They also prepared a bunch of bread and garlic bread to fill you up before your meal. Food was mediocre but what really made it worse is the quality of the beef. It tasted overly cooked and not tender. I mentioned it to the server and they remade it. The presentation and plating of the food really needs some work. The vegetables they used were broccoli on the plates and it was not cut into smaller pieces and just sloppily placed on the plates. Refer to my picture as an example. Also gave a free birthday dessert hot lava cake for hubbys birthday. What really made me decide to not come back again is because 2-3 hours after eating the food, I got food poisoning. Vomit and diarrhea. Really don't recommend coming here if you are looking for a steakhouse. Better places in Pasadena or Los Angeles. read more

This restaurant is old. I didn't like the ambiance. It gave that vibe like it's trying to be classy but it lacks that certain quality. It needs to be remodeled inside and outside. I had the linguini and clams and the clams did not taste fresh. I had a bite of the steak and it was not tender. The drinks tasted water down. I will not be back. I haven't been to Dal Rae in over twenty years, but it was fabulous THEN, and it's fabulous NOW! Such consistency over decades is extraordinary. Everyone we dealt with: valet; host; busboys; servers; bartender...everyone exuded premium customer service. Julie was our server. She provided just the right level of attentiveness. Charming; helpful; she really knew the menu and helped guide us to some outstanding app's/salad/entrees. Food was delicious; tableside Caesar; branzino; shrimp cocktail; just terrific. We were there on a cloudy Tuesday afternoon in April and the restaurant was quite busy. That in itself says a lot! Dal Rae....what a winner....five stars all day long! read more
