I had the pleasure of dining at the Dal Rae for the first time and I was blown away in every aspect how amazing everything was, every detail, every bite in an atmosphere that's very hard to find these days. Let's start with a little history of the Dal Rae, it opened in 1951 and has been sharing its extraordinary menu and dining experience to many including my wife's parents and family who dined there regularly for over 40 years. My wife's parents and her sisters would go there regularly as children. The Dal Rae offers a unique "old school" charm from the classic dining room vibe that you seldom see, don't get me wrong there are still a few of these places around but you know I experienced so much that I just don't see anymore. The dark dining room lit by table candles and dim lighting, featuring a long hardwood bar with the same lighting making amazing cocktails past the stage that hosts live entertainment to the dining rooms with the same lighting with booths with clothed tables, baskets of breads and a relish tray. The entire staff is friendly and honored to have you in their dining room. Let's talk about the food, a good sized menu offering some old school appetizers as well as your others, fine cuts of meats, fresh seafoods and aged beef. My entree came with a house salad that I have to say was the best dinner salad I have ever had, I am not sure if it was the fact that the salad was prepared and tossed with the house made blue cheese dressing with large chunks of blue cheese with simple additions but every bite was incredible. If I wasn't in such a classy establishment I would have kicked the plate . (But I didn't) our entrees came after our salads and some had French Onion Soup. My brother in law/wife and his brother/wife and sister/husband along with my wife filled our table. My brother in law and his siblings also dined at the Dal Rae with their parents when they were young and still come to this day. So there was a lot of great food on our table as well as great family. I ordered the Steak Diane a dish rarely found these days, I was so excited to have this again and just as excited to try it at Dal Rae, as it was prepared table side you could instantly smell the aromas of Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, butter and other ingredients then the brandy with a flash of fire creating the fragrant decadent sauce only to be found in Steak Diane. It was Molto Bene in every bite e tutti delizioso! All our dishes were simply incredible, great flavors and served with such class and old school charm. We also had the pleasure of the owner coming to our table and sharing some history of the restaurant and his family commitments to serving the community, people from Los Alamitos Race Track, the jockeys, the owners, the fans and continuing to do so. We all were so full we passed on the dessert menu but if I could fit it into my leg I would have gone with the Bananas Foster.....so I guess I need to come back for more. My cousin talks very highly of this restaurant but it didn't really meet my expectations. We had a 5:30 reservation in the covered patio area but since we had an additional person, they moved us into a table in the bar. They started us off with warm bread and butter. Then right before the food actually comes, they give you another basket of bread but this time it's cheesey garlic bread. Every entree comes with veggies (not sure if it's seasonal/rotating but we all got broccoli) and a choice of side. I ordered the 10oz prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. We also ordered the seabass. Baked potato is served tableside. My prime rib was a little too overcooked. The seabass was pretty good. It was a thick and tender piece. Now why I'm giving it 2 stars.. our server. I caught her rolling her eyes a couple times as she's walking away from our table. I didn't think we were being complicated but apparently she did. It was not giving "steakhouse service" (but what do you expect, it's Pico Rivera). The food was also mediocre at best. Everything was under seasoned. Quite frankly, it reminded us of "cruise food." The ambience is dark and loud. Not sure if the rest of the restaurant was just as dark since they seated us in the bar. The tables are very close together and there's not much walking space. They have several private rooms for parties. The waiting area was pretty packed after we got seated. The crowd is definitely on the older side. We came here to celebrate my 30th birthday on March 14th and had a 7:45pm reservation. despite how busy it was, everything flowed seamlessly from start to finish. Just a heads up, they only offer valet parking for $6, but it's quick and convenient and made arrival easy. One thing that really stood out was the ambiance. it felt different from most restaurants in the best way. It had an elevated, lively energy while still feeling comfortable and welcoming, striking that perfect balance between upscale and relaxed. We started with a pomegranate margarita, a Paloma, and some delicious cheese bread that set the tone for the night. For dinner, we ordered the surf and turf with a perfectly cooked medium rare filet mignon and Chilean sea bass that truly melts in your mouth. We also had the New York pepper steak cooked medium with fries, along with sides of cream of spinach and mac and cheese. the mac and cheese was incredibly creamy and cheesy, pure comfort food. Even with the crowd, service was never neglected. Our waiter, Blake, was attentive throughout the night, and the manager stopped by our table to check in, which was a really nice touch. What a wonderful dinner! We brought friends with us that had never dined at Dal Rae! What a treat to see their reactions with the experiences! The food and service waa exceptional, as it always is. The rest of our party ordered pepper steaks (their specialty), filets and NY! I can't believe one of our guests actually finished the 18oz NY Steak, but so good he wanted to! They say it's the best restaurant in town and they may be right! Had a wonderful time celebrating my husband's birthday! The service was impeccable. Our reservations were made online and we checked in no problem. Many guests were dressed up classically for a steakhouse! Our waitress was kind and friendly answering all our questions about salt level of food etc. for some sensitive eaters in our group. The lighting and cleanliness of the restaurant were moody, excellent, and well kept. Now for the food, nothing disappoints! Everything was delicious. The bread for appetizers were warm and fresh. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel other customers should be aware of this. We reserved a private room, and at no point during the booking process was a $3,500 minimum spend disclosed. The first time we learned about it was when it was time to pay. Being told this in front of my guests was incredibly embarrassing. Faced with an unexpected $3,500 minimum, I had no choice but to order enough additional food to meet the requirement. We ended up taking home approximately $2,000 worth of food that we never intended to purchase, simply because we were never informed of the minimum spend beforehand. I ended up paying almost $5,000! Once all the fees were added up, $3,500+20% gratitude +tax+$250 fee to rent the room. What should have been a celebration turned into an unexpected financial burden and an extremely stressful experience. If the restaurant has a $3,500 minimum for its private room, that requirement should be clearly disclosed before a reservation is made--not after the event when customers have no real choice. Transparency is essential, and I hope the restaurant changes its booking process so no one else has to experience the same situation. read more

We, along with others, had a tradition of dining here on Halloween which this year, would be the first time back, since before the pandemic. However, it was decided to dine last night (Sunday) as Friday was not only Halloween, the Dodgers were playing and traffic on Fridays is a true nightmare. Valet parking. $6. Or you can find parking on the street. Inside, it's an old school steakhouse. Host/hostess stand as soon as you enter. Straight ahead is the bar and lounge and a dining room straight back. To the left, is a private room which last night was in use. To the right is the main dining area plus a garden room, which is where we chose to sit last night. Couldn't figure out why it was so busy until we found the menu celebrating Dal Rae's 67th anniversary. We thought it was just Dodger fans out to partying the World Series win. Service was excellent. The team took care of us all the way down to boxing up our leftovers, tableside. Not that I'd worry about staff messing with my food at this place, but others, I have to admit, it's in the back of my mind. Friendly. Polite. Personable. Professional. Not arrogant, nor inattentive or cold at all. As for the food, see pics. Flavorful, juicy, tender steaks. Fresh, hearty, savory sides. Decadent and silky desserts (last night: Caesar Salad Hears of Romaine, creamy dressing; Dal Rae Pepper Filet Mignon, Pan seared with onion, bacon and peppercorn mixture and Tiramisu Expresso, mascarpone, lady fingers and creme anglaise). We were served a crudité of fresh and pickled veggies with dipping sauces on ice, bread basket and butter. I enjoyed the Chilean sea bass served with creamy mashed potatoes and broccoli. The somber lighting inside set the mood for a relaxed, leisurely lunch. I ordered the fresh Chilean Sea Bass ala Ben from the lunch menu. The sea bass was deliciously flaky and buttery and had a parmesan crust. The mashed potatoes, sautéed onions, and broccoli added just the right touch. This place has never been an instagrammable spot, and it never will be because its not the cool spot that takes a good picture. This place is an institution. It probably hasn't been remodeled since it opened and we are all happy it hasn't been or it would have lost its charm. What a gem! I never knew about this restaurant nor had I heard about it. Somehow caught a foodie influencer visiting Dal Rae and realized I've never been here. We arrived for dinner and the only Parking available is valet. There is no parking on the street or across the street. Very reasonable fee $6-7. Walking into the restaurant from the bright sunlight outside, you'll need to adjust your eyes once inside. You check in with your reservation. It's dim and cozy and once you can focus you'll see the old school charm. Decore of art deco with 60s charm. First order of business was a golden pineapple martini. This was like having a straw right out of a pineapple. Martini wasn't very strong to me, but then server did mention that drinks can be adjusted if you prefer. I preferred to walk out in a straight line so the amount of alcohol was fine. The calamari with the cocktail sauce and the other one was like a white oyster cream that is similar to what you would have in a seafood pasta. The batter somehow had a slight taste of fried chicken batter? Not sure, but I would order this again. If I dine at a new place and they serve prime rib then that's what I'm ordering. Always a good thing to know of places with above average to exceptional prime rib. We both went with the 10oz. medium. Delicious. Cooked the way I like it and not fatty. The meat itself is tender. You can ask for more au jus if you like to dip. I was having a good time and had not tried the sides. Rice pilaf was good, creamed spinach was a bit runny, but the taste was good, baked potato seemed like a small size compared to most places. This didn't bother me, since I do not focus on potatoes much. We enjoyed a celebratory chocolate lava brownie - delish! And, ordered the tiramisu which was average and didn't knock the socks off my feet. Next time I'm trying their sundaes - spied another table that had a gigantic bowl! Lydia was our server. Friendly and attentive. She's great. The lounge looked relaxing and calm. Lounge singer was there (Thursday nights) - great jazzy soft tone music. Valentines Dinner Fail! I wish I had a better experience here but the service here and the table next to us making racist remarks ultimately tainted my experience. It also wasn't advertised anywhere on their websites or socials that the valentines dinner had started 2/13 so we were a bit disappointed with the limited menu. FOOD 4/5 My steak here was great! She just did the bare minimum, nothing above and beyond. When we asked why the valentine's day menu was there the day before valentine's day she said they were extremely busy, but there was also empty tables around us throughout dinner. I came here for the first time to celebrate my mom's birthday. My brother had been here before and really liked it, so he wanted to take us here. This review is written in comparison to Ruth Chris' Steak House and Summit House, which I think are similar in pricing and menu. Atmosphere wise, Dal Rae is very lively, crowded, and popular. There is live music, and the noise level is quite high so it might not be the best place to have a conversation. Lighting is also very dim. I found the service to be good (no complaints), but I personally felt that the service I received at Ruth's Chris and Summit House was much more attentive and personal. The most positive thing that stood out about the service here, though, was that our server asked me if I wanted more au jus for my prime rib; when he brought the au jus, he poured some for my prime rib and for my brother (because I had shared with him a portion of my prime rib). I was impressed by his consideration. We ordered the Pepper Steak, Poor Man's Pepper steak, Chilean sea bass, and prime rib. The pepper steak was VERY good. We were all impressed with the flavoring and seasoning. My brother ordered the Poor Man's steak to save money, and it looked exactly like the pepper steak so my parents didn't know that he had ordered the more affordable version (which helped with the experience so that my parents didn't have to feel bad about it). We thought the Chilean Sea Bass was mediocre; it didn't have any special seasoning and honestly tasted fishy to me. The prime rib was juicy but didn't have any notable flavors; I preferred Summit House's prime rib more. Regarding sides: although the creamed spinach and creamed corn were good, we thought the creamed spinach at Ruth's Chris and the creamed corn at Summit House were much better. Regarding parking, there is street parking in the neighborhood but it can be hard to find. We ended up having to do valet parking. Would recommend getting a reservation. read more

I have been patronizing Dal Rae for over 30 years. I don't live close by but I still make the drive up 605 for my sea bass a la Ben fix. It's always perfect . Flakey, tender, moist and always perfectly seasoned. Even the broccoli is perfectly done. The bread is wonderful. A chewy crust with a soft interior served with next level butter. The food is one thing. The service is another. It is always attentive and timely. Tonight Lidia was helping us. Always above & beyond to give us a great experience. I have spent many special events here so it has a place in my heart everytime I come back. The interior is old school but not outdated. I know I'm not alone in loving this place. Came on a Friday evening and I was pleasantly surprised with a very busy dining room good thing we had reservations! The ambiance was nice but the service was very slow. At times we didn't see our waiter for over 15 minutes and we went and found the maitre D for our immediate requests. But all food that came out was excellent. Nothing lacking and I think overall good value as a whole. The dessert was weak and I did not feel it was home made. Tasted mass produced but that's not my gripe, I just didn't think it was good chocolate cake. But that's my only complaint. Form the bread to their entre it was overall very good. Can't wait to come back again and enjoy their live music! Their performer could sing, play saxophone, flute, guitar, harmonica, and more. What a great place. read more

This was my first time here and really enjoyed the experience. The Hostess was able to accommodate a seating request. Our server was Elieen and she was wonderful. She was friendly, professional and attentive. We ordered the tableside Caesar Salad, and Mark did a great job! I had the Prime Rib and it was prepared perfectly. I really enjoyed it! You already know It's going to be a great spot if there's valet! Ambiance: We can hear for a DineLA dinner. It's fancy as you walk in. Amber lights Darkened room. It's giving 50s vibes and I'm loving it. If you're a bit early for a reservation you're able to chill at the bar and sip on some lemon water. We were guided to our table which I heard is where Jimmy Hoffa sat. Ironically next to the exit! lol. Food: So DineLA offers a 3 course dinner for $75. I started off with a ceaser salad. The salad was good! Flavorful. For the main entree I got the Parmesan crusted Chilean Sea Bass with broccoli florets. Okay I normally don't get fish but I was intrigued and did not disappoint at all! It was so soft and melted in your mouth. you were also able to get a side and of course got my mashed potatoes. Let me tell you they even bring this cheese garlicy toast. I had to take the rest home! We went with family for several celebrations on a Saturday night. You have to valet park for $6. It's dark and old timey inside. There was bread, & spicy corn chips on the table. Then cheese toast arrived which was yummy. I had the prime rib and he had the surf & turf special(filet mignon & Chilean sea bass). They came with broccoli and a potato. It was all good. Blake our server was friendly, helpful and attentive. We were in the room next to where the live band was playing so it was kinda loud. read more

We celebrated my husband's birthday at Del Rae in Pico Rivera and had a wonderful first time experience. The service was excellent. Our server, Dawn, was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The food was delicious. We both ordered the surf and turf, which included Chilean sea bass and filet mignon with broccoli and a baked potato with all the fixings. The garlic Parmesan bread was amazing! The baked potato was average but on the larger size, the filet was very tender and cooked perfectly to medium just the way we like it, and the sea bass was the standout. It was the softest, most flavorful Chilean sea bass I've ever had. To top it off, we were treated to two single servings of lava cake for the birthday and for being first-timers, which was a lovely touch. Overall, a great dining experience and we're happy to have finally tried Del Rae after hearing about it all my life. We'll definitely be back. read more
