I can't believe I finally found an authentic Texas BBQ spot in an assuming plaza strip mall in Huntington Park. The minute you walk in, you immediately smell the smoked BBQ, which made me hungrier. I ordered the brisket, ribs, and sausage, mac and cheese, and rice. I think if this is especially your first time, that's how to do it. Luckily, I had people to share it with. Everything...I mean EVERYTHING was delicious. It's hard for me to pick a fave, but I guess if I had to, it would be the brisket and the sausage. The sausage was delicious. I would 100000% come back here again for a good BBQ meal.

Man is Ray's BBQ good stuff. Fast friendly counter service started us off. Half the place is full of actual split logs to fuel the tasty treats that come from their smoker. I had the pitmaster brisket sandwich and it was epic. If you look at the pic you can see how generous it is and the brisket was absolutely amazing. Moist, tender, great bark and rich meaty taste. The behemoth was load with flavor and had a bun that could withstand its epic interior. Side of piping hot beans and I was good to go! If you haven't tried Ray's and you are in the area, I would get yourself there now !

I finally got around to trying Ray's BBQ, and honestly, this visit has been years in the making. Back when Ray was still around, I had the chance to chat with him on Facebook before the restaurant even opened. He struck me as such a genuine guy passionate about BBQ and proud of what he was building. I always told myself I'd try his food one day. Sadly, I later learned of his passing, but I still felt it was important to pay respect to his dream and see what his family has carried forward. I recently moved to Huntington Park, and while driving down Sante Fe I realized Ray's BBQ was practically in my backyard. Between my work schedule and a few times finding the place closed, it took me a while to finally make it in. Today I got off work early, found parking right away, and walked into a spot that carries so much history. Having followed the story of Ray's BBQ over the years, it honestly felt like an honor stepping through those doors. The restaurant itself is clean, organized, and welcoming. I loved seeing the neatly stacked wood they use for smoking it's a small detail but speaks volumes about their craft. The menu is straightforward, which makes ordering easy, and the staff (Ray's family) couldn't have been friendlier. They walked me through the options and made me feel right at home. For my first visit, I went with the Prime Brisket Pitmaster sandwich. It comes with brisket, coleslaw, pickles, and their house-made BBQ sauce. My order was ready in about five minutes, and the whole process was smooth and efficient. The sandwich itself was excellent the brisket had the perfect smokiness, the sauce added a sweet kick, and everything came together beautifully. Overall, I left really impressed and satisfied. It makes me happy to see Ray's family thriving and keeping his vision alive. The only downside is that the food is on the pricier side, so for me it's more of a once in a while treat. But it's absolutely worth it, and I'll be back to try more items little by little. I'll definitely be recommending Ray's BBQ to friends and family.

I intentionally came on a Saturday to try the brisket pupusas...BEST THING EVER! It was so rich, smoky, and flavorful. The ratio of masa, beans, cheese, and brisket was so perfect. The order comes with 2 for $17.99 and it was well worth it. I didn't even need the slaw and tomato sauce, but devoured that as well. The place was nice and cozy with the smell of good smoky bbq. Tables were large enough to share with others. I got there around 12:40 and the wait wasn't long. The cashier, Evelyn, was amazing! She was so warm and welcoming to everyone that came in. I will definitely be back to try more. The brisket is on my list.

I was not expecting to spend so much money on my lunch that day, but I wasn't mad about it even if I had spent my lunch money for the rest of my work week. Lol! I got the Brisket Sandwich with a Topo Chico mineral water, and after tip, I was over $30. No big deal because I really enjoyed the sandwich. They left the chili on the side for me so I could control the heat, but, I threw it right back in there-- They knew what they were doing! The woman that took my order was very helpful. I'm not even sure if they took my name down, but, someone walked my order to where I was sitting. I thought the place was small, but, I think they might be renovating the other side. They slapped a big cow hyde in the middle of the wall, and around it were silly pictures of cows. I was diggin' the decor. I am thinking of putting in an order for Thanksgiving!

Finally got to try this place and the BBQ was very good. I got the BBQ Bowl (Half BBQ Rice-Half Mac & Cheese topped with Brisket and Pulled Pork and had to get the Half-Rack Memphis Style Pork Ribs. The BBQ sauce they make here i must say is some of the best i ever had and to put it over the BBQ bowl is the way to go so make sure you get extra sauce. The ribs are the nice and fall off the bone type! The family who runs this place were super friendly and helpful with the menu. You barely walk inside and you can smell the good BBQ smoke. This is located in a small strip mall with a nail salon, a liquor store and a couple of other food food spots. Good parking so that's not a problem to get in and out. They have beef ribs on saturdays i believe from a picture i saw I heard they make some of the best pupusas in town (saturdays only) so i may go back for that and a sandwich but it's a long hike for me. Overall, i really enjoyed my meal but high prices at $76.00 dollars may keep me at bay and will probably by a once in a while visit spot. Ray's two sons are doing a good job on carrying on their father's legacy and i hope they're success continues! Food Rating: BBQ bowl with pull pork/brisket 8.8\10 but with that delicious BBQ sauce poured on it 9.0\10 BBQ ribs 8.6\10 Mac and rice 8.0

Classic brisket. Meat and bun only.

This place is soooooooo good. I absolutely love their brisket. Full of flavor and never dry. The staff is super friendly and they remember their customers. The place is small, but cute.

4 1/2 stars. I've had this bookmarked for quite some time after seeing them on You Tube. I was driving back from Santa Monica beach and decided to stop in during the week. Business has a Texas theme and is located in a small strip center with complimentary parking. I placed my order with one of the sons who advised me they have been located here for ten years, and he recommended the beef brisket. I ended up ordering a full rack of Memphis ribs which, half a pound of brisket, Cajun rice and mac and cheese. I couldn't wait to get home and decided to eat the brisket in house, which was served asap with bread, pickles and the bbq sauce on the side. I was taken back how tender and smokey the brisket tasted and ended up eating the whole 1/2 pound! For dinner I indulged in the ribs, rice, mac & cheese. Everything was delicious. The ribs were tender and smokey. Overall, I was ecstatic with my experience at Ray's BBQ and recommend them for a bbq meal.

    Jalapeño cheddar sausage

Some of the best SoCal Bbq Iv had in awhile. Super smokey and really moist brisket. Zesty jalapeño cheddar sausage w/ a snappy casing and exploding with juicy flavor. No bbq sauce needed on anything. I was already stuffed from hitting up food in Boyle Hts. so next L.A. visit this will be the 1st stop.

Had to go back again and have me another pitmaster sandwich with the strawberry lemonade. 12/10 would recommend. Service is always quick and the man at the counter holds it down with the great customer service They vibes are cozy and you got a stack of lumber logs on one side and artwork of cows and texas on the other. I'll keep coming back and bringing others to enjoy.

Huge burrito! This is only half

Brisket Pupusas Wow! These Pupusas are probably some of the best that I've ever had. They only serve them on Saturdays, and they're well worth the special trip. Beans, cheese and brisket fill the inside and they combine for a delicious delight. So much flavor, the brisket is obviously the star of the show, but the beans and cheese are of a good quality and enhance the entire dish. The cabbage accontriment was fresh and flavorful along with the salsa served on the side. Burrito This burrito sounded amazing.. brisket, sausage and Mac n cheese. When I received it, it looked amazing! A burrito so big that it would easily feed 2 people. Inside was beans, Mac n cheese, brisket and jalapeno cheedar sausage served with BBQ sauce on the side. The brisket was amazing, the sausage was just OK. It had a decent flavor, but when biting in to it, it didn't have a nice snap to it. The caused each bite in to the burrito was a tug o war with the sausage as it didn't snap cleanly into a nice bite. The casing was pretty tough and chewy. The inside of the sausage was pretty good.. The mac n cheese was a typical one - not bad, not amazing - just a decent cheesy Mac. The BBQ sauce was really tasty, it had a spicy kick to it. I really enjoyed this and it elevated the burrito a lot. Overall, the burrito needed the spicy BBQ sauce to make it enjoyable. It was falling apart easily with each bite that contained sausage which made this more of a fork affair rather than a handheld event. The pupusas on the other hand, I'd recommend everyone to make their way here on a Saturday to try these. Super delicious!

Bar b Que pork ribs, beef brisket, sausage, coleslaw, beans, bread, pickles & onions
    Denise O.

This Bar B Que spot has about 6 long tables where you share seating with others. The restaurant is filled with write ups about how the food is. We placed our order & had some of the best Bar B Que I have ever eaten. Tender brisket, pork ribs that fell off the bone. The server remembered our names & was open to casual conversation. Where we were from, family, etc. We had good conversation with the people we shared the table with. A truly delightful experience. I will definitely be back to Rays

    Diana M.

If you're looking for a family owned bbq spot check out Rays BBQ. The brisket was tender and rich with flavors that give a spicy kick. Raul helped us throughout the process of ordering because it was our first time and made the process so easy. The service felt like you were home. The space is limited so be sure to plan ahead if you are coming in a big party. They also don't have restrooms so be sure to plan ahead. Overall, the food was really good with great service and I recommend the Baked Beans with Meat and Brisket.

Will Ray's be offering a whole smoked turkey for Thanksgiving?

    Why no more halal??? so sad to find that out :{

Ray gave an answer on his iG about 8 months ago. It was a business decision. I'm just glad I got to try his bbq before the switch.

Is it possible to buy a whole brisket?

    Not halal anymore?

Are beef ribs still being sold on the weekends now that the meat is halal?

Beef ribs are now available 5 days a week. Yes it’s all certified halal zabiha meats.

I noticed that this restraints description says 100% halal meat and they do not sell pork. Is this store updated and is the food no longer halal?

Have no worries. We do net sell pork anymore. We went 100% Halal 2 weeks ago. Sincerely Ray’s Bbq

What time does this place open/close on Saturdays? Tried calling-no one answered and greeting was out of date. Google maps and yelp have differing hours. Help!

All this week we were remodeling. We will open again this coming Tuesday from 9 am till 2pm. Tuesday thru Saturday same hours.

Are the meats keto friendly? Obviously with no bbq sauce but is the rubs / or seasoning outside of the sauce sweet?

The beef rib and brisket are definitely keto. They are seasoned with salt and pepper as said by the owner. Not anything sweet.

Is this place super packed during lunch time? Planning to go for a quick bite.

It's busy but quick, very limited seating.

Do they usually run out of brisket early in the day? I don't usually have brisket for breakfast, but I could make an exception :)

Sometimes they run out a little after 12 noon, it varies. To stay informed follow them on Instagram they announce when they begin to run low.

Can anyone confirm if Ray's is open on Sunday? I recall a change in days/hours a few months ago to include being open on Sunday but the Yelp hours state closed Sunday and Monday. Thanks 🤙🏼

Closed on Sunday. My friend originally wanted to throw his BD party on Sunday but switched to Saturday since they are closed Sundays

Still, I kept a positive expectation, and nothing about my attitude warranted the lack of effort/attention I received from my young male server, who seemed like he had a million better things he'd rather be doing and I just felt like he considered himself too good to be dealing with the likes of me. If only the chicken sandwich were enough to make up for the overall experience. That says a lot. Once upon a time (a few years ago), my CFP + banking institution wanted to thank me for being one of their top private clients. They expressed their gratitude with a very generous, all expense paid full-course meal at Bestia. To say that I was impressed would be an understatement. Fast forward to now, I knew that coming back here would be a good idea. Make no mistake, even if you try to book a reservation several weeks in-advance, don't be surprised if the only available seats are at the counter. Granted, I was in a spacey table during my past visit, the counter can be an enjoyable & unintentionally entertaining space. It's great for a more casual vibe, as you get to see some of the kitchen workers put together some of their signature dishes. In many ways, Bestia seems like a microcosm of the city that it rather humbly resides within. What always catches me off-guard, is that the surrounding simple area really doesn't reflect the happening, vibrant, night-life that resides within the building's walls. You feel like you're taken so a different, very social, very bustling world. WINE: Podere 72, Poderi San Lazzaro (Marche region, central Italy) - 8.7 / 10 A very robust blend of Montepulciano & Sangiovese grapes that results in a balanced, medium bodied red wine that stands-up to heartiness of a beef ribeye steak. FOOD: Roasted Bone Marrow - 9.4/ 10 I have several friends that go here just for this particular dish. Funny enough, one can almost always tell that one is at Bestia because of the rather peculiar manner in which this dish is served. Hot, melted bone marrow is appropriately scooped out of the bone & poured onto spinach gnocchetti. It's like eating beef flavored mouth pillows of potato + spinach. It's definitely a dish that will impress whoever you are with. I can never resist ordering this whenever I am here. Oxtail alla Vaccinara - 8.9 / 10 The deep, rich maroon color of the rigatoni (thanks to beets) is a sight to behold. The pasta is firm but not too hard. It's a humble yet complex pasta dish that complements any main course. 26oz Margaret River Wagyu Ribeye - 9.4 / 10 Anybody who knows me knows that I love my ribeye. Any decent fancy restaurant does a ribeye. But no one does a ribeye quite like Bestia. The fermented mushroom cream delivers a punch of pungence not unlike a delectable dijon mustard, but to the highest of levels. This dish also makes me a believer in well-cooked onions served alongside steak. I usually like to take a home a portion of ribeye for later, but this is one of the very few instances when the steak is so good, that I can't help but finish it here. Again, the portion is more than enough to be shared. Fromage Blanc Mousse - 9.1 / 10 This seasonal dish hits all the right notes. It's the fanciest of cheesecakes, so I recommend sharing this. With its decadence, a little truly goes a long way & that's perfectly fine. The richness of the cheese is offset perfectly by the right balance of candied kumquats. A great "bite" to end on. Huge shout-out & thanks to Radu for being the nicest & most enthusiastic of servers. It's little things like him being so down to take pics of you with your party that really make me want to come back here. It the owners / management is reading this, please recognize how pivotal he is to your team. If he was working under me, I would most definitely give him a raise. Also, shout-out to Dani at the hostess stand. She is one of the most personable people. For being the first person that patrons see upon entering, she is the perfect face, attitude, & welcoming personality that the hospitality industry is in dire need of. She's a rockstar of a hostess & a pleasure to talk with. Bestia is a better place because of valuable employees like Radu & Dani. As always, come for the food. Come back for the service. I would definitely come back because of how amazing Radu & Dani are. Years after the hype, the vibe is still very much happening at Bestia.

The place itself is very modern and nice. Overall the vibe it basically a Houston's-type place. And service was good. All of the food overall was very good. Nothing really too crazy. To me, the menu is a little... boring. But, I will say everything was tasty. We got the Cajun shrimp salad (which was simple and clean but tasty), a cheese pizza for the kids (which was good!), a brisket French dip (very tasty and a horseradish sauce with a LOT of bite), a vodka pasta (was good but it actually is TOO big a portion to eat by one's self), the Ahi Tuna frites (the tuna was good and served with a nice green sauce), and the grilled cabbage side (with brown butter and some pomegranate molasses--it was actually my favorite thing!). The key distinctive thing about Laurel Grill seems to be that a lot of things get cooked by that fire which really adds a nice smoky touch (like the shrimp and the ahi tuna and the cabbage). My only major complaint would be the fries were just okay. After a minute or two they weren't crispy anymore. As good as everything else was, I thought they would step things up with the fries but they were just average. Anyways, while I overall am not that excited by the menu, it definitely is a great place to go where everybody will be able to find something tasty to eat. And overall, the portions were pretty fair.

Just making my timely updated review. The lights were still dimmed, which brought a great ambiance…read moreto the dinner experience. It was very relaxed and just had chill vibes. The evening started off strong, as we stopped by during Hoppy Hour (around 9ish). There wasn't a wait, and it wasn't too busy, so we were seated right away. The front staff was nice and polite. She gave us the option of either a tall round table or a shorter rectangular table. We of course, opted for the slightly shorter (height-wise) rectangular table. Once we were seated, we were given the menu, and the waitress told us that we would be right with us. She stopped by to ask about drinks, and we opted for water. She dropped off water and came back with perfect timing because by then we were ready to order. I also love the simplicity of the menu. There really aren't too many options where you feel overwhelmed, but there are still enough choices to pick from. Shout out to the pastrami quesadilla, I didn't realize it had been swapped for a new menu item until I asked about it this time around, but I'll be waiting for its comeback! We ordered a few items: the mac and cheese balls, the Wagyu bone marrow burger with truffle fries, and a double smash burger with ribbed finger potatoes. We had to get the mac and cheese balls since it was Hoppy Hour! I also didn't realize that on Wednesdays, the double smash burgers are half off. I'll definitely remember that for next time. After we ordered, the food came out quicker than I expected. It was a nice surprise. I think the first item came out about 10 minutes after our initial order. The mac and cheese balls came out hot, which was great. The breading made them super crispy and gave a nice crunch that balanced really well with the softer, chewier mac and cheese inside. I was glad the inside wasn't too runny since that would have made it like lava! I didn't see a cheese pull this time, but next time I'll try again to see if I can catch one. It was a great start to the meal. The burgers came out shortly after we finished the mac and cheese balls. I totally forgot that the truffle fries came with sauce. I should have asked for the sauce on the side, but it wasn't a problem that it was added on top of the fries. It just made them get soggy a bit faster, but that's no problem; it just means I've got to work faster! The burger was good and came out super juicy. I asked for it medium, and it looked about medium, so no complaints here! I never realized before, but the bread was so fluffy... it was a super pillowy bun with a nice bounce to it. It definitely helped balance out the meatiness of the patty. The hint of tomato gave it a nice, refreshing bite and really helped cut through the richness of the meat. The onions also added a nice sweetness to the burger, which was appreciated. I also snuck a bite of the ribbed potatoes, and they were good as well. They were a bit crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside, with just a touch of saltiness. I also stole a pickle from the double smash and realized I probably should have asked for pickles on my burger, but I'll remember that for my next visit!

Tried out the umami burger, with mushrooms and pickled onions, it was pretty solid! Unfortunately,…read morethe Fresno fig came out cold and the fries were overcooked/too hard. Almost like both were just left out for 30 minutes before they were put on the table. Service was fantastic, always someone coming to check on us every 15 or so minutes! Love this place for its outdoor seating, it makes for a very relaxing eating environment.

I got the skirt steak cooked medium rare -- flavor was good, but it was a little tough to cut. I think it would've paired even better with some garlic butter or chimichurri on the side. The mac and cheese was SO good and easily one of the highlights of the meal. Creamy, flavorful, and definitely something I'd order again. The pork chops were delicious and packed with flavor, but the spinach underneath was a bit too bitter for my taste. The mashed potatoes were creamy, soft, and comforting. We also loved the Brussels sprouts and Caesar salad -- both were super solid sides. Drinks were perfect and balanced out the dishes really well. Service and atmosphere were great too. Would definitely come back to try more items on the menu next time we are in the area.

It was bland and portion was just smaller than I expected. There is a location in Pasadena and the pasta was seasoned well and balanced and what I feel the portion was much bigger. I do have to assume it's due to the location of this establishment. The ambiance was pretty slow however the inside decorations were so cute and pleasant on the eyes. I wouldn't come here for the food, perhaps a drink and a small app.
