It's been a while since I've had Ray's bbq but I was in the area and had to stop by. This visit I ordered a brisket sandwich, pork ribs, and a jalapeño cheddar sausage. Everything tasted just as good as I remember. As soon as you walk in it has a traditional bbq smell that isn't typical for all of these other bbq joints nowadays. The staff is still friendly and engaging as well as on top of cleanliness. I plan to make my way back to Ray's BBQ soon, I stopped by around noon today and they were almost sold out of their meats basically the same as when I first ate here years ago. I was in town for work with my coworker not too long ago. And I had seen Ray's barbecue on the list of places that I had book I'm so glad that we decided to stop in for lunch. This barbecue was amazing and very flavorful. We got their ribs, sausage, got the dirty rice and mac & cheese. In hindsight, we probably could've ordered more brisket. The sausage I was very happy with as well Everything was really great and I'm so glad that this place There are only a few tables inside where you can sit and enjoy. I'm sure during meal times will get really busy and you might be out of There is a good amount of parking in this strip mall And it looks very popular with people that know We were unsure of what to order and the worker here was amazing. Walked us through a couple of options and what to get. I also got the lemonade aqua fresca that was really good as The sides were delicious and everything had a good strong kick to it. Nothing subtle with what we got in the best way possible. I would definitely come back in the future! I'll start off by saying the mac and cheese was probably the worst I've ever had at a barbecue spot. That alone was a letdown for me. The ribs and brisket were actually good.. pretty solid overall. As for the spot itself, it's pretty bare bones.. no bathroom and nowhere to really wash your hands, which is kind of a downside for this type of food. Seating is just meh. I can't believe I finally found an authentic Texas BBQ spot in an assuming plaza strip mall in Huntington Park. The minute you walk in, you immediately smell the smoked BBQ, which made me hungrier. I ordered the brisket, ribs, and sausage, mac and cheese, and rice. I think if this is especially your first time, that's how to do it. Luckily, I had people to share it with. Man is Ray's BBQ good stuff. Fast friendly counter service started us off. Half the place is full of actual split logs to fuel the tasty treats that come from their smoker. I had the pitmaster brisket sandwich and it was epic. If you look at the pic you can see how generous it is and the brisket was absolutely amazing. Moist, tender, great bark and rich meaty taste. The behemoth was load with flavor and had a bun that could withstand its epic interior. Side of piping hot beans and I was good to go! I finally got around to trying Ray's BBQ, and honestly, this visit has been years in the making. Back when Ray was still around, I had the chance to chat with him on Facebook before the restaurant even opened. He struck me as such a genuine guy passionate about BBQ and proud of what he was building. I always told myself I'd try his food one day. Sadly, I later learned of his passing, but I still felt it was important to pay respect to his dream and see what his family has carried forward. I recently moved to Huntington Park, and while driving down Sante Fe I realized Ray's BBQ was practically in my backyard. Between my work schedule and a few times finding the place closed, it took me a while to finally make it in. Today I got off work early, found parking right away, and walked into a spot that carries so much history. Having followed the story of Ray's BBQ over the years, it honestly felt like an honor stepping through those doors. The restaurant itself is clean, organized, and welcoming. I loved seeing the neatly stacked wood they use for smoking it's a small detail but speaks volumes about their craft. The menu is straightforward, which makes ordering easy, and the staff (Ray's family) couldn't have been friendlier. They walked me through the options and made me feel right at home. For my first visit, I went with the Prime Brisket Pitmaster sandwich. It comes with brisket, coleslaw, pickles, and their house-made BBQ sauce. My order was ready in about five minutes, and the whole process was smooth and efficient. The sandwich itself was excellent the brisket had the perfect smokiness, the sauce added a sweet kick, and everything came together beautifully. Overall, I left really impressed and satisfied. It makes me happy to see Ray's family thriving and keeping his vision alive. The only downside is that the food is on the pricier side, so for me it's more of a once in a while treat. But it's absolutely worth it, and I'll be back to try more items little by little. I'll definitely be recommending Ray's BBQ to friends and family. read more

I intentionally came on a Saturday to try the brisket pupusas...BEST THING EVER! It was so rich, smoky, and flavorful. The ratio of masa, beans, cheese, and brisket was so perfect. The order comes with 2 for $17.99 and it was well worth it. I didn't even need the slaw and tomato sauce, but devoured that as well. The place was nice and cozy with the smell of good smoky bbq. Tables were large enough to share with others. I got there around 12:40 and the wait wasn't long. The cashier, Evelyn, was amazing! She was so warm and welcoming to everyone that came in. I was not expecting to spend so much money on my lunch that day, but I wasn't mad about it even if I had spent my lunch money for the rest of my work week. Lol! I got the Brisket Sandwich with a Topo Chico mineral water, and after tip, I was over $30. No big deal because I really enjoyed the sandwich. They left the chili on the side for me so I could control the heat, but, I threw it right back in there-- They knew what they were doing! The woman that took my order was very helpful. I'm not even sure if they took my name down, but, someone walked my order to where I was sitting. I thought the place was small, but, I think they might be renovating the other side. Finally got to try this place and the BBQ was very good. I got the BBQ Bowl (Half BBQ Rice-Half Mac & Cheese topped with Brisket and Pulled Pork and had to get the Half-Rack Memphis Style Pork Ribs. The BBQ sauce they make here i must say is some of the best i ever had and to put it over the BBQ bowl is the way to go so make sure you get extra sauce. The ribs are the nice and fall off the bone type! The family who runs this place were super friendly and helpful with the menu. You barely walk inside and you can smell the good BBQ smoke. This is located in a small strip mall with a nail salon, a liquor store and a couple of other food food spots. Good parking so that's not a problem to get in and out. They have beef ribs on saturdays i believe from a picture i saw I heard they make some of the best pupusas in town (saturdays only) so i may go back for that and a sandwich but it's a long hike for me. Overall, i really enjoyed my meal but high prices at $76.00 dollars may keep me at bay and will probably by a once in a while visit spot. Ray's two sons are doing a good job on carrying on their father's legacy and i hope they're success continues! 4 1/2 stars. I've had this bookmarked for quite some time after seeing them on You Tube. I was driving back from Santa Monica beach and decided to stop in during the week. Business has a Texas theme and is located in a small strip center with complimentary parking. I placed my order with one of the sons who advised me they have been located here for ten years, and he recommended the beef brisket. I ended up ordering a full rack of Memphis ribs which, half a pound of brisket, Cajun rice and mac and cheese. I couldn't wait to get home and decided to eat the brisket in house, which was served asap with bread, pickles and the bbq sauce on the side. I was taken back how tender and smokey the brisket tasted and ended up eating the whole 1/2 pound! For dinner I indulged in the ribs, rice, mac & cheese. Everything was delicious. I wanted to give Ray's BBQ several tries before reviewing the establishment. I love beef brisket and Ray's is definitely one of the juiciest and most tender I've had from anywhere including around Texas. There's one reason I've decided I won't be back after several tries to confirm I didn't just get a bad batch or two. I find the smoke flavor on the brisket far too intense. The very first time I ate it was in one of their sandwiches, and it was so delicious. Inside of a spicy sandwich, the smokiness blends (or perhaps is masked) well with the other ingredients. As brisket alone though it's far too smoky. It completely takes over my senses and for hours after, I'm burping smoke taste and wonder if I've turned into a fireplace and chimney. The sides are average so not particularly memorable but work well with traditional BBQ fare. The BBQ sauce has a slight spicy kick to it. It's too bad I can't handle the level of smoking in the brisket because the owners are friendly and definitely passionate about what they make and serve. The menu prices reflect the quality of their meat which is high quality and worth it if you don't mind the smokiness. When they're busy, the parking lot fills up since there are many businesses that share the spaces. The seating inside the restaurant is made up of several long tables so the vibe is casual. There aren't that many seats but people appear to move through rather quickly during meal rushes. read more

Brisket Pupusas Wow! These Pupusas are probably some of the best that I've ever had. They only serve them on Saturdays, and they're well worth the special trip. Beans, cheese and brisket fill the inside and they combine for a delicious delight. So much flavor, the brisket is obviously the star of the show, but the beans and cheese are of a good quality and enhance the entire dish. The cabbage accontriment was fresh and flavorful along with the salsa served on the side. Burrito This burrito sounded amazing.. brisket, sausage and Mac n cheese. When I received it, it looked amazing! A burrito so big that it would easily feed 2 people. Inside was beans, Mac n cheese, brisket and jalapeno cheedar sausage served with BBQ sauce on the side. The brisket was amazing, the sausage was just OK. It had a decent flavor, but when biting in to it, it didn't have a nice snap to it. The caused each bite in to the burrito was a tug o war with the sausage as it didn't snap cleanly into a nice bite. The casing was pretty tough and chewy. The inside of the sausage was pretty good.. The mac n cheese was a typical one - not bad, not amazing - just a decent cheesy Mac. The BBQ sauce was really tasty, it had a spicy kick to it. I really enjoyed this and it elevated the burrito a lot. Overall, the burrito needed the spicy BBQ sauce to make it enjoyable. It was falling apart easily with each bite that contained sausage which made this more of a fork affair rather than a handheld event. I knew the moment I touched my Texas Twinkie and spare ribs that this was going to be life changing. They were absolutely delicious! As of this review I haven't touched the brisket yet but oh my goodness I felt compelled to write this as soon as I tasted the Twinkie. The staff there are also very friendly so the moment I walked in I felt welcome. The cashier was helpful and the guy who gave me my order was also friendly. The place definitely feels ljke a bbq pit too- it's kinda cool seeing the post oak logs as you walk in. Very friendly place My only gripe is if you're a single dude just checking out the place on your own, and you have poor sense of portion control (I ordered 1/2 a lb of two of my favorite items plus the bacon wrapped jalapeño, so that's kinda on me lol), well, you're better off taking friends and family here, rather than visiting on your own. They DO have a bowl and burrito option- the bowl is Mac and cheese rice pulled pork and brisket if I'm I recall correctly, but I'd prefer a fully customizable plate if they have an option like that- maybe they can modify the bowl and I just forgot to ask. Found in a strip mall in Huntington Park, CA is a gem in the SoCal bbq scene. It's been about 6 years since my last visit and has been where i tell ppl they need to stop at as soon as they land in LAX. I don't have a perfect memory but I will say that I think it was better than what I remember. The reins have been passed on since that time sadly but it's still serving some amazing smoked meats. For the record, I am team crunchy bark. I enjoy all brisket but that nice textural contrast just takes me to new heights. The beautiful bark on the brisket and smokey flavor. Each part of the bark. Each grain of pepper. Down to the size and placement tasted intentional. Nice and juicy flat. Everything just melts in your mouth. I could eat this brisket all day. It actually disappeared first. The ribs were wonderfully meaty and juicy. My favorite thing was the jalapeño cheddar sausage though. The juices burst into my mouth. And the little bits of cheese balanced out with the little bit spicy meat. It's a cold rainy day today and just a bite of this sausage warmed me up from the inside to the just right amount. Not too hot. Not too not hot (lol) just that perfect balance. The weather this visit may not have been perfect but this meal definitely was. And still strongly my first stop recommendation after landing in LAX. I hate that airport but this spot makes it all worth it lol. Btw. I ate everything except two bones of the ribs. Ray's BBQ was excellent! The pit masters are Ray's sons (22 and 25) and they are doing an amazing job on carrying on their father's legacy. They are so young yet mature and kind. I drove an hour in LA traffic to get there and would do it again in a heartbeat! BBQ wise, the Texas style brisket is a MUST! So tender and juicy; just flavorful with that peppery bark. Memphis style Spareribs were so delicious as well. All meats are smoke to perfection-with mesquite and oak wood in a cabinet smoker. Their housemade bbq sauce is fire! I am told that they sell out of pulled pork early, so call in advance and see what is available or get there early. I went there towards closing time and they were kind enough to put aside my order for me. It was still packed when I got there! The sides dishes are a Latin twist to traditional sides. Good stuff! New on their menu are smoked Crispy Chicharron - available Saturday only! I think BEEF RIBS are available on Saturday as well - call to confirm. I'll have to revisit my experience with the pork ribs, but the brisket was superb. So tender, I could honestly make a sandwich out of the cuts and not have to worry about a thing. I typically shy away from brisket so I was genuinely impressed. I also ordered the pulled pork sandwich and that too was very good, and the bbq sauce made it even better. I would be keenly interested in some form of a "golden" bbq sauce from this place but I have to say the standard option had the perfect amount of sweet and spice to it. Sides were also great, pretty standard options when it comes to bbq (potato salad, rice & beans). The kiwi lemonade was a perfect pair and I appreciate his staff that filled everything to the rim. My husband took me to get bbq from Ray's and all I can say is the food is amazing. The ribs juicy and tender. The brisket was mix with lean and fat and it was really tender and juicy. This place is always busy. Your typical bbq spot. Simple and efficient, with picnic benches. It's not super big, so you may end up sharing a table with a neighbor. Giving a cozy vibe. The brisket is always tender and flavorful. This is one of the only places where I actually like the baked beans. They aren't overly sweet and they have nice chunks of meat.
