Me and my mom have been going here for the past couple months and we have loved it. Especially the past few times we have had the pleasure of having JJ. He's absolutely been an amazing server and we have been asking for him every time we go because we love being in his section. Our experience is always 10x better while we dine with him. From the moment we arrived, the staff was friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome right away. Our server, Mia, stood out--she was knowledgeable about the menu and genuinely helpful when it came to recommendations. We started with the salmon ceviche, which was incredibly fresh and had a delicious esquite-style twist. One of the highlights of the meal was the house-made, fluffy pita bread paired with a savory sauce--it was easily one of my favorite parts. The drinks were also excellent: well-balanced, strong without being overpowering, and beautifully garnished with thoughtful details. For entrées, we tried the surf and turf and the NY steak, both of which were cooked well and came in very generous portions. While the restaurant leans Mediterranean, the menu offers a nice variety of options to suit different tastes. The loaded mashed potatoes were another standout, packed with a unique and flavorful twist. Even though we were nearly full, we couldn't pass up dessert--and I'm glad we didn't. I've been to this location twice and feel I can assuredly recommend this place! The first time I came with a group and had the cold mezza sampler (great for sharing) and the chicken shawerma - so yummy. The next time I went (just last week) I went on a girl's lunch date and we had the batata harra (must try!!) and the deviled filet mignon which was cooked perfectly. We also had the King & Queen (nice presentation) as well as the airline chicken piccata - our favorite! Had to try since it's a signature dish. The dessert was amazing as well, not a cake person but I enjoyed the pistachio cheesecake. We also had the crème brulee which was amazing. Overall I highly recommend getting the batata harra, chicken piccata & the crème brulee! The service from the waiter was great, he was very helpful and attentive despite it being a bit busy! Upon arrival, my cousin and I were immediately greeted and seated on a Thursday afternoon. We were struck how beautiful their interior design and decorations were. It was immaculate and jaw dropping. There's mildly played music but nothing crazy you have to shout. We were serviced by Evan and shout out to him because he was extremely helpful and so hospitable with his service! We ended up getting as follows: Pomegranate tequila - 5/5 not super strong but strong enough to give you a good time. The pomegranate is fresh and made in house to produce the alcoholic mix Coconut sparkling drink - 4.5/5 I wish it had a little bit more coconut taste but overall extremely refreshing. I would love to try ther other options too. They are also unlimited refills!!! Hummus (both regular and spicy) - 5/5 you can tell it was made in house from scratch and I love the kick the spicy hummus has. The bread was standard and nothing special that made it stick out for me. Deviled potatoes - 5/5 I just love how it's fresh bell peppers and mango flavoring that is immersed on top of the sliced potatoes. It's very satisfying. Shrimp Alfredo - 4/5 I personally love this but I will say it's not the typical creamy version people are familiar with the Italian style. However, it doesn't make me feel bloated with the heavy cream and cheese. It's definitely on the lighter side. The king and queen - 4.5/5 the chicken and beef were both seasoned perfectly. They both compliment with the designated sauces very well, which are also homemade. The beef was a bit more on the medium well side which subsided more on the tough end but nothing that concerned us. Chicken was cooked perfectly. Tiramisu - 4/5 it had a different texture but the sweetness was on point. The espresso taste was perfectly bitter to my pallet. There is a bit of a texture similar to flan in the middle, which caught me off guard but was a pleasant surprise Baklava - 5/5 I love the flakiness on top and the sweetness balanced so well with the pistachio ice cream. Went to Downey to try The Olive Restobar as they served Mediterranean food. We met up with my friend who works around the area and noticed it was located in a big shopping mall with other restaurants and stores. It is conveniently located off the freeway and there is plenty of parking. We ordered 2 drinks, 3 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts to share. We started off with the strawberry mint cooler and mango sparkling soda. The strawberry mint cooler was my favorite out of the two. It was refreshing, had chunks of strawberry bits inside and was sweet but tart. It was perfect for the warm weather we have been having. The mango sparkling soda was light but refreshing as well. We ordered 3 different appetizers. The mezza sampler came with 4 different dips which included hummus, spicy hummus, loaded labneh and yogurt and cucumber. They were all full of flavor and made fresh. The mint gave the labneh and yogurt a fresh taste. The spicy potatoes were thin and crispy. The deviled filet mignon was tender and the mango chutney paired well with the meat. The Olive kabob platter came with 2 kabobs of your choosing. We got the filet mignon and salmon. Both had a nice smokey flavor. The surf and turf had these delicious orange mashed potatoes that were super garlicky. The orange is because the restaurant uses chipotle butter. The shrimps were massive and meaty. The ribeye was cooked to perfection. It was lean with some fatty pieces. We finished our meal with the chocolate croissant bread pudding and pistachio cheesecake. Immediately walking in you are greeted with a group of the nicest staff. The place is super aesthetic that it doesn't even feel like you're just in Downey anymore. The bar area is super nice and even their seating along the patio is beautiful. The standout of the night for me was definitely the Kings Kabob. The ribeye was super tender and not chewy at all. The fries on the bottom were also seasoned really well. The Greek salad was good but standard as to what you would expect in a salad. I also really liked the appetizers and getting to be able to order a sampler. All the different textures made it a whole journey of sensations in my mouth. Seriously memorable Mediterranean! It is best to set up a reservation, although I did it up here through Yelp, and I even got a confirmation text, but once we arrived, they didn't have it. We were still able to get seated right away though, even with them having a crazy busy night. The place was packed with many waiting outside to be seated, but we just needed a table for two. If you have a large party, I would say you should call in to reserve. Now on to the food, which was phenomenal! We had never seen filet mignon Kafta, and it was so tender and flavorful! After this, we wouldn't ever want it any other way! Also hadn't seen hummus served with filet mignon on top. We got it spicy, and that was my favorite savory dish of the day! For dessert you gotta get the pistachio cheesecake! It's light and the perfect way to finish your meal. The knafeh was also good. Our waiter Kenneth was great and went above and beyond. Had dinner with my family here this past Saturday. Vibe of the restaurant was great and although they were BUSSYYYY, service was impeccable. Our waiter, Kenneth was super chill and ensured we had everything we needed. Excellent service by Kenneth and everyone at this restaurant. Now, the food. Girlfriend and I tried a variety of things including: Salmon and beef(?) kabobs, hummus with meat (both happy hour portion). Meat on both was tender, flavorful, and nicely seasoned. Hummus with meat was served with pita. Nothing to write home about but we enjoyed this dish. We also tried the sweet and spicy shrimp and these were YUMMY. Great flavor + good cook on the shrimp. Our main entree of choice were the land chops and these were GASSSSS. Great sear, seasoning, and flavor on these. Every bite had me yearning for more. I wish I could have had more of this. For dessert, we also had the creme brûlée which was excellent. Overall, there was not a bite of food which we did not enjoy. We ordered four plates of the filet mignon steak with rice and salad. everything was flavorful and cooked well. The downside: service has been consistently slow. It took about 15 minutes just to get water and drinks, and another 30 minutes before our food came out. I've been a few times and this seems to be a pattern, although service can vary depending on where you're seated. Seating inside can feel a bit crowded, but they do have additional seating in the café area, which gives you more space and a slightly different experience. Also, they charge different pricing for cash vs. non-cash, and the difference was about $15. When plates are already around $30, that extra charge feels pretty steep and unexpected. That said, management is quick to step in and make things right, which I do appreciate. The ambiance is lively and modern, making it a fun spot to go with friends or for a night out. As someone who has had her fair share of Mediterranean food (including authentic dishes while abroad), this spot was disappointing. Here's what we ordered: - shrimp kabob - chicken shawarma kabob - kafta kabob - lamb kabob - hummus & labneh w/ pita - Mediterranean salad Unfortunately, the shrimp was overcooked and the chicken was very dry. Hummus was less thick and more runny than I'd prefer. The salad was definitely not a "mediterranean" salad and looked like it was thrown together with leftovers they had in the fridge. The pita bread was not my favorite. It's very thin and airy... almost like a torta. The service was fine but I was surprised to see that they charged us extra for a kabob even though it was happy hour and all kabobs were advertised as the same price. Our hummus came with cucumbers and carrot sticks. We asked for additional slices and wouldn't you believe it... it cost us $6 for 4 thin slices of carrots and 4 thin slices of cucumber. Needless to say, the restaurant is nice and the service is fine but the food was a major miss for me. read more

Went to Olive Restobar for the first time today and all I can say is it was well worth the drive. I love that is a Mediterranean restaurant but has a Latin feel to it. The staff were so great very attentive. Our server was Oscar and he was amazing. I met the Mgr Carlos as well also such a great guy. All of the food was 10/10 you really can taste the freshness in all of their food as well as their drinks. They are in an outdoor mall area and yet very easy to find. Parking wasn't a hassle at all. Which is always a plus. The inside is beautiful designed. It has an indoor outside arrangement which I'm sure looks great in the evening be it the lighting they have through the restaurant. For food, we had the deviled filet mignon, half & half spicy hummus/creamy hummus, and cheese rolls. The cheese rolls were like cheese eggs. Crispy with a cheesy blend of spices topped off with somewhat of a spicy mayo on top. We got full off that HH menu as well as tipsy. Very polite and professional!! We got there and it was raining, we were offered outside with heaters or inside. We wanted outside with the heaters, we enjoy the fresh air! They turned on all the heaters around us so we were never cold. Our waiter was AMAZING!!! Very attentive!!! The food arrived quickly. Everything we got was delicious.
