My colleagues and I came here for lunch last week and I'll say food and service were spot on, exceptional! However, their AC was just not working properly for any one of us given CA Heat !!! Service 5 stars I want to give a big shoutout to our amazing server Evan. He was exceptional all around. Frequently checked with us and did everything he possibly could've to help us feel comfortable in this heat! Food 5 stars I had the lamb chop with affogato, so delish! Regrettably, I didn't get to enjoy my meal because we were so uncomfortable due to the heat... over 90 degrees hot out and the AC was just not working properly in an open space restaurant set up like this one! Parking 5 stars there are always plenty of open available parking spaces Ambiance 1 star I only gave this rating because we were extremely uncomfortable, the extreme hot weather! Regrettably I would not recommend coming to this place in the summer during the heat and I'm guessing winter in the cold.
4.5 stars The Olive Restobar is known for its made-from-scratch Mediterranean cuisine & creative hand-crafted cocktails. I met the adorable Mikey here for our annual get together lunch. The patio was packed with fans exited to watch the World Cup match between Egypt & Australia. We joined them since his sweet fur baby was with us. Juan, our waiter, was kind enough to bring her a bowl of water, and the lady at the table next to us gushed over her. After we placed our order, Juan brought complimentary pita for us to share. It was warm & soft and the accompanying dipping sauce was delish. Mikey had the Kings Lunch (Ribeye steak kabob & salad) along with a Margarita, Spicy Mango Margarita, & Voodoo Ranger IPA. My selections were: El Chapo y Kate (Tequila, Prickly Pear Liquor, Cucumber, Agave, & Spicy Bitters), La Chancla (Tequila, Mezcal, Ancho Reyes Chili Liqueur, Hibiscus, & Lime) & the Mediterranean Salad. Both cocktails were nicely balanced with just a touch of heat. The lettuce was crisp, the cucumbers, tomatoes, & olives were fresh, and the garlic-lemon dressing was tasty. Our meal & cocktails were delicious. We enjoyed our time together and the vibrant energy of the fans celebrating Egypt's win. *Happy Hour Mon - Fri 3 pm - 7 pm *Large parking lot.
We chose outdoor seating on this lovely sunny day. This establishment is right across from Bar Louie. We are taking advantage of the happy hour menu Monday. They have an all day happy hour menu Tuesday through Friday. It is from 3 PM to 7 PM. The boy ordered a steak kebab. This is his go to meal. Rest well Atom.
I was seated for my reservation promptly. The service was amazing - waiters came in and checked on the food. They also had gluten free options. I had the chicken with capers and it was juicy. The ambiance included live music and the singer was quite talented.
Upon arrival, my cousin and I were immediately greeted and seated on a Thursday afternoon. We were struck how beautiful their interior design and decorations were. It was immaculate and jaw dropping. There's mildly played music but nothing crazy you have to shout. We were serviced by Evan and shout out to him because he was extremely helpful and so hospitable with his service! We ended up getting as follows: Pomegranate tequila - 5/5 not super strong but strong enough to give you a good time. The pomegranate is fresh and made in house to produce the alcoholic mix Coconut sparkling drink - 4.5/5 I wish it had a little bit more coconut taste but overall extremely refreshing. I would love to try ther other options too. They are also unlimited refills!!! Hummus (both regular and spicy) - 5/5 you can tell it was made in house from scratch and I love the kick the spicy hummus has. The bread was standard and nothing special that made it stick out for me. Deviled potatoes - 5/5 I just love how it's fresh bell peppers and mango flavoring that is immersed on top of the sliced potatoes. It's very satisfying. Shrimp Alfredo - 4/5 I personally love this but I will say it's not the typical creamy version people are familiar with the Italian style. However, it doesn't make me feel bloated with the heavy cream and cheese. It's definitely on the lighter side. The king and queen - 4.5/5 the chicken and beef were both seasoned perfectly. They both compliment with the designated sauces very well, which are also homemade. The beef was a bit more on the medium well side which subsided more on the tough end but nothing that concerned us. Chicken was cooked perfectly. Tiramisu - 4/5 it had a different texture but the sweetness was on point. The espresso taste was perfectly bitter to my pallet. There is a bit of a texture similar to flan in the middle, which caught me off guard but was a pleasant surprise Baklava - 5/5 I love the flakiness on top and the sweetness balanced so well with the pistachio ice cream. The baklava was made in house and has the perfectly sweetness and nuttiness ratio to each bite.
The two times that I've been here, the food and service was a 10/10 experience. The servers are attentive, friendly and very helpful when it comes to answering questions about the menu. The first time I came I had the pleasure of being served by Battol who was funny, friendly and welcoming as it was my first time. My second visit, I came on a busy day due to the World Cup games being played, my server Oscar was attentive and there when we needed anything. My favorite dish here is definitely the deviled filet migñon! Each bite you take is full of flavor with juicy tender meat! My favorite drink I've had would be a tie between the pineapple coconut mojito and the raspberry margarita. Every drink I've tried here are so refreshing and well made. I love the pita bread they serve you with the tahini sauce. This is such a nice and cute place to visit whether it be on a date, with your family or even your girls. I love that they have both indoor and outdoor seating. It's located at the Downey Promenade located among other bars, restaurants, a yummy cafe, and a Cinemark where you can plan to watch a movie after your meal(: I love that there's a lot of parking around so no matter how busy it can be, it's easy to find your way around.
It had been a few years since we dined here, but the food and ambiance is as good as ever. We stopped by during World Cup AND a Dodgers game, so the restaurant was packed! Luckily, I made a reservation a week before. We sat on the patio and the weather was perfection. We shared hummus with chicken shawarma,, fattouche salad, and cheese bites. We also shared a few kabobs including lamb, kefta, and gyro. Everything was fantastic. My husband and I thought the cheese appetizer was just OK, we can omit that next time. The gyro stole the show. It was SO flavorful and juicy. My husband ordered an extra serving it was that good. We also enjoyed some wine and sangria. Overall, we had a wonderful experience.
Went to Downey to try The Olive Restobar as they served Mediterranean food. We met up with my friend who works around the area and noticed it was located in a big shopping mall with other restaurants and stores. It is conveniently located off the freeway and there is plenty of parking. We ordered 2 drinks, 3 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts to share. We started off with the strawberry mint cooler and mango sparkling soda. The strawberry mint cooler was my favorite out of the two. It was refreshing, had chunks of strawberry bits inside and was sweet but tart. It was perfect for the warm weather we have been having. The mango sparkling soda was light but refreshing as well. We ordered 3 different appetizers. The mezza sampler came with 4 different dips which included hummus, spicy hummus, loaded labneh and yogurt and cucumber. They were all full of flavor and made fresh. The mint gave the labneh and yogurt a fresh taste. The spicy potatoes were thin and crispy. The deviled filet mignon was tender and the mango chutney paired well with the meat. The Olive kabob platter came with 2 kabobs of your choosing. We got the filet mignon and salmon. Both had a nice smokey flavor. The surf and turf had these delicious orange mashed potatoes that were super garlicky. The orange is because the restaurant uses chipotle butter. The shrimps were massive and meaty. The ribeye was cooked to perfection. It was lean with some fatty pieces. We finished our meal with the chocolate croissant bread pudding and pistachio cheesecake. The bread pudding was warmed and came with your choice of ice cream. We wanted the pistachio ice cream and something about eating warm and cold things just goes well together. The pistachio cheesecake was light and airy as well compared to your usual dense cheesecake.
Luv coming here for happy hour. It's lively, great patio to listen to music and relax with friends while eating, amazing tasting food. Plus, the free pita bread and sauce is A+

Celebrated my birthday with family, and it was a wonderful experience! Even on a busy Tuesday night, the restaurant was packed, but the service never missed a beat. A special shout-out to our waiter, Kenny, who went above and beyond for our group. He kept us laughing, was incredibly attentive, offered great recommendations, and never made us feel rushed. I'm at my friend for lunch. We were seated in the patio area. There were lots of people dining. It was beautiful weather. We only ordered water for drinks. Back here once again because I was obsessed with their labneh dip. I once again got their cold mezza platter that had a variety of dips like hummus and yogurt. This time we also got their surf & turf as well as lamb chops. Very filling and delicious. Ended the night with desserts, which was amazing as well. Went to Olive Resto Bar in Downey and it seriously delivered. Even though it was busy, we got seated right away and the whole vibe felt lively without being chaotic. Food was amazing. The chicken entrée was super tasty and cooked perfectly, and the buttery sauce with capers over the mashed potatoes was the kind of comfort-food upgrade I didn't know I needed. We also had grilled shrimp that were juicy with a nice char and great seasoning. And the drink? Phenomenal. Fresh, minty, and refreshing (honestly one of the best cocktails I've had in a while). The food at Olive Restobar is good, but unfortunately my recent experience was disappointing. Please check your bills carefully before leaving. After reviewing my statement, I noticed that my tip had been changed and I was charged a 45% tip, which was not what I authorized. Now I have to take time out of my day to contact the restaurant and fix an issue that should have never happened in the first place. On top of the billing issue, the service has been declining. During my meal, the staff repeatedly tried to take my plate while I was still eating, which made the experience feel rushed and uncomfortable. It's frustrating because the food is enjoyable, but good food can only go so far! read more
Lovely restaurant with a nice indoor / outdoor concept! Spacious area for outdoor seating and great natural light everywhere inside. This surf & turf was delicious. The ribeye was prepared perfectly. My mocktail was a cucumber lemonade & quite refreshing. The service was good as well. Their creme brûlée (un pictured) is arguably one of the best I've ever had. Their lamb chops are also phenomenal! Ask for Kenneth because he will most absolutely take great care of you :) My gf and I had delicious cocktails and food during their HH which is Monday to Friday 3 pm to 7 pm. Sheesh what a great HH! I had the spicy mango margarita and gf had the watermelon martini. Both were delicious, strong, and made from real fruit so we got our daily dose of nutrients. For food, we had the deviled filet mignon, half & half spicy hummus/creamy hummus, and cheese rolls. The cheese rolls were like cheese eggs. Crispy with a cheesy blend of spices topped off with somewhat of a spicy mayo on top. We got full off that HH menu as well as tipsy. We were in the area and decided to give Olive Mediterranean Restaurant in Downey a try and I'm so glad we did. From the moment you walk in, the vibe and energy are just amazing. The space itself is absolutely gorgeous and really sets the tone for a great dining experience. I also have to give a big shoutout to our server, JJ, who did an incredible job taking care of us. He was attentive, friendly, and truly made the whole experience even better. We got to try a variety of dishes, including the dolma, cauliflower, and shawarma, and everything was delicious. Sun, fresh air, and good company--can't really go wrong with that Service was decent, I'd give it a 7/10--friendly enough and kept things moving. The food was enjoyable, and I want to give a shout-out to the waiter, who was friendly, offered helpful recommendations, and was very attentive throughout my meal. The chicken piccata was excellent--cooked to perfection, tender, and juicy. The cauliflower was okay; it tasted slightly burnt, but no big deal. The pan-seared filet mignon with sautéed bell peppers was tasty, though the sauce was a bit too sweet and not spicy enough for my taste. The filet itself was grilled perfectly! Came here for dinner on a weekday with the family and it was a great experience!! Customer service is top tier!!! Like they go above and beyond!! The manager/owner greeted us as soon as we walked it. Very polite and professional!! We got there and it was raining, we were offered outside with heaters or inside. We wanted outside with the heaters, we enjoy the fresh air! They turned on all the heaters around us so we were never cold. Our waiter was AMAZING!!! Very attentive!!! The food arrived quickly. Everything we got was delicious. Every dish has its own distinct flavor without being overwhelming, and everything leans on the healthier side, which I really appreciate. It is definitely on the pricey end, but honestly it feels worth it. My family and I haven't stopped talking about this place since our first visit. Came here on a Thursday for lunch with my husband and had amazing service as always. The appetizer crispy cauliflower is my favorite appetizer of choice because it has NO batter on it, it's made to perfection and the lemon squeeze is a perfect touch to this starter. We ordered the chicken kebabs and steak kebabs with a side of roasted jalapeños. The jalapeños were NOT spicy and so delicious to our meal. The service Eloye provided me and my husband was very attentive and understood our needs. Our cups of water were never empty and the dirty martinis with Tito's Vodka were made to perfection with no overpowering brine and a delicious addition to our meal. I visited The Olive Restobar several times now, on each experience, somehow topped the last. The patio is my favorite spot to dine, it's such a relaxing atmosphere, but the interior is equally gorgeous and beautifully designed. From the moment you arrive, the greeters are welcoming and attentive, always keeping you informed about your wait time. On my most recent visit, we had a fantastic server who is incredibly kind and thoughtful, making sure everything was just right. Their cocktails and mocktails are consistently wonderful. I ordered a mocktail and while many places tend to miss the mark with these, this restaurant always knows it; both in presentation and taste. I ordered the filet mignon Panini and it was absolutely divine. It might look small at first, but it was a perfect portion and very flavorful. We ended the evening with crème brûlée - perfection as always. This place continues to be a go to whenever I'm in Downey. Highly recommend! read more

Tried The Olive Restobar and the food did not disappoint. The traditional and spicy hummus were both so good, and the cucumber mojito was refreshing. We ordered four plates of the filet mignon steak with rice and salad. everything was flavorful and cooked well. The downside: service has been consistently slow. It took about 15 minutes just to get water and drinks, and another 30 minutes before our food came out. I've been a few times and this seems to be a pattern, although service can vary depending on where you're seated. Seating inside can feel a bit crowded, but they do have additional seating in the café area, which gives you more space and a slightly different experience. Also, they charge different pricing for cash vs. non-cash, and the difference was about $15. When plates are already around $30, that extra charge feels pretty steep and unexpected. That said, management is quick to step in and make things right, which I do appreciate. The ambiance is lively and modern, making it a fun spot to go with friends or for a night out. Overall, great food, but be ready for slower service, tighter seating, and the pricing difference--definitely bring cash if you can. read more

The Olive Restobar is a chic, Mediterranean restaurant featuring an incredible post-work happy hour menu. We ordered the lamb shank (by far my favorite), and various kebabs (chicken, beef shawarma, luleh), which were accompanied by fresh sides of veggies, couscous, and homemade hummus and labneh. Another great visit to The Olive Restobar in Downey. I've reviewed this place before, and it continues to earn high praise. The Food We went with the Mixed Grill Feast which was more than enough for our family of six. A perfect spread of grilled meats, flavorful rice, and sides that truly hit the spot. We paired it with a bottle of The Prisoner Chardonnay, which balanced the meal beautifully. To close, we shared the Chocolate Delight paired with a cappuccino--simple and rich, just as it should be. Ambiance The space remains inviting, lively, and full of energy. It's always busy, but never in a way that feels overwhelming. You can sense the pride of ownership in how well everything runs, from the music to the warmth of the setting. The Service Service here remains top tier. Juan was our server this time, and despite how packed the place gets, everything came out smooth and attentive. I continue to see Carlos, the manager, moving around the floor with his usual upbeat attitude--always greeting guests and lending a hand. I've yet to formally meet the owner, Sam, or his son Sam Jr. (who runs the café next door), but their presence is clearly felt through the consistency of the team. The vibes here are stunning, and it can get pretty crowded. We arrived for dinner on a weekend and got a small table for two outside. Service was really great, even with the number of customers. In terms of food, I had a full course. Hot Mezza Sampler - I really enjoyed this one. It came with four different types of hot bites, and they were all so good. It's a perfect amount for two but could easily be shared with four if you cut everything. Would recommend. Plenty of seating inside and out. Upscale casual setting with nice decor. Hostess, waiter and other staff checked on our party often. Pita was served to each guest with a lemony dipping sauce. We shared happy our items and a sweet salad. The filet mignon bites were tender and flavorful and was the gyro & humus. Shrimp was cooked well but too sweet for my liking. Food is always amazing. Steak was cooked just as ordered. The salmon ceviche was delicious and refreshing. The margaritas were perfect; not too strong, not too sweet. The only complaint is the wait time for the drinks (came out at the same time as the food) and a little overpriced. read more

Great vibe, great service & great food! This place is lively and the outdoor patio was packed on Friday. I was there with family and we had a good time. The servers are friendly and attentive. One of my brothers can be a bit picky; his Diet Coke tasted flat and he let them know about it. The server took it all in stride and got him another one from a different fountain. He still found it to be flat, so they went to the next door cafe and got him a canned soda. The server was super understanding and kept a great attitude, which I'm sure is hard to do when someone isn't happy with something. All in all, this place is a hit! read more

Is the food halal?
I am not certain if Islamic law is a practice observed in the preparation of animal entrees. My guess it is not. But they have many non meat dishes on the menu.
