If you're looking for a good seafood spot, Santos is definitely worth checking out. They have a pretty big selection, a great bar, and variety of seafood. Starting off with the oysters and scallops. Both were a little underwhelming for me and pretty salty, almost like biting into the ocean itself. The oysters came with Tapatío and salt, and the scallops was pretty standard for what you'd expect. Both were around $16-18 if I remember correctly. The main dishes were way better. The Caguamero Shrimp was really good and had a lot of flavor. We also got the Zarandeado del Nayar, which is the big whole fish you've probably seen on social media . Crispy, charred, and served with all the sides and toppings. It's market price, but this was definitely the Shamu of the restaurant and a customer favorite. I do not recommend this restaurant. Two stars for good customer service. When we came in, we were greeted quite quickly, and brought to our table. Inside was very clean. It is very spacious and well spaced. Separation of regular diners and bar drinking is nice, to keep a family friendly environment separate from the potentially more rowdy crowd. We asked what was highly recommended, and of course, it was what we came for, as others do too for their first and most likely, only visit there. I do not recommend this restaurant. We ordered their special of the day, which was a ceviche. It was made with raw shrimp, not cooked in any way, like straight from the freezer, thawed, chopped, and put into a bowl with the other fresh diced stuff. Usually, the marinating time the shrimp sits in the ceviche "cooks" it, not this one, gray shrimp. We read a review that said the octopus was life-changing, and we love a well-cooked octopus. If the octopus was just cooked, or just heated, or just slightly on the grill for a second, it would have been super delicious and life-changing, however, it was finished-cooked so poorly. My guess is that someone thinks that grill marks make it good, wrong, they burnt it. The flavor is burnt! It becomes bitter and burnt! Well, guess what, we ordered the fish.... And guess what.. it is the same!!! BURNT! Not grilled, BURNT, ON PURPOSE!?! If you want good Zarandeado, I recommend you go try Mariscos Martin in La Puente or Baldwin Park. Like I said, skip it, I do not recommend it. And, it was not cheap neither. It looked so upscale, so awesome, smelled good, then just burnt! Don't believe all the hype. Noely gave us a great service!!!! I ordered the pescado zarandeado and it was absolutely delicious. I also had a Vampiro, and it was excellent. The food was fresh, flavorful, and definitely worth coming back for. The only thing I noticed was that during the less than two hours I was there, about five different flower vendors came inside trying to sell flowers. I've only experienced that in dive bars, not at a restaurant of this caliber. It would make the dining experience even better if that could be limited. Impressed is an understatement. This is my new favorite mariscos restaurant. A MUST get is the zarandeado del nayar. Flaky sea bass is perfectly marinated and grilled (be aware it is BONE IN) and served with the FLUFFIEST, softest corn tortillas ever. Just scooping up the fish in the tortilla and a touch of lime was perfection. It's market price, which was $49 for 2 lb for today. I loved the langoustine sauce, dipping the fish tacos in that was next level. The tacos costeños were delicious, had a nice chipotle crema on there. The black tide ceviche is so unique and delicious. Mango and apple give it this nice sweet crunch, which contrasts so nicely with the limey, slightly smoky, spicy sauce. So unique with the most beautifully brunoise cut apples and mango. This place is a drive but you will surely find me back here. They were not busy when they opened, but as I was dining, the place filled up. So I suggest you go at opening if possible. They have a separate bar area that's decorated really cute and has a different aesthetic from the main restaurant. The servers were very attentive and gave great recommendations. My friends ordered drinks (can't remember the exact names), but they had dragon fruit and watermelon flavors, super yummy. This was my first time visiting after seeing the restaurant on Instagram, and I decided to give it a try. After we were seated, we weren't acknowledged for about 10 minutes. A table that was seated after us received service before we did, so we eventually had to wave someone down to ask for a server. We later learned her name from the receipt since she never introduced herself. We ordered the Ceviche Oceana and the Zarandeado. The menu offers two different Zarandeado options, but we were never asked which one we wanted. By the time I realized it, the food had already been served. For the ceviche, I specifically requested that the raw shrimp be substituted with cooked shrimp. The ceviche normally comes with raw shrimp, octopus, and fish, but I asked for cooked shrimp instead. Unfortunately, it arrived with the raw shrimp anyway. We had to flag someone down again, and they corrected the mistake. Shortly afterward, the fish arrived. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside. It has a clean, tropical vacation vibe that makes for a great atmosphere. It was a little loud because the Mexico game was on, but that's completely understandable and didn't bother us. Overall, I would come back because the food was genuinely delicious. I'm giving it 3 stars because the service needs improvement. Our assigned server never came back to check on us, Noelle did her best to help despite not originally being responsible for our table, but there were still a couple of mistakes with our order.
