    Sour spoiled lemon ricotta pancakes!
    Abigail B.

My husband ordered me the lemon ricotta pancakes this morning, which I've had from this restaurant before, so I know exactly how they're supposed to taste. The moment I took my first bite, I immediately noticed that the ricotta tasted sour and spoiled. I drove back to the restaurant to request a refund. Unfortunately, my refund was not honored because the manager, Aimee, was not present. Karely, the lead on duty, seemed unsure of how to handle the situation and attempted to explain that the sour taste was simply the lemon in the ricotta. That explanation was disappointing because there is a clear difference between the intended lemon flavor and the taste of spoiled dairy. What upset me most was the lack of concern, apology, or effort to make the situation right. As a customer, I expected the issue to be taken seriously, especially when food safety is involved. If a manager is unavailable, staff should be properly trained and empowered to handle customer concerns appropriately. I am currently four months pregnant, which made this experience even more concerning. I wasted my time, gas, and energy driving back to the restaurant, only to leave without a refund or any resolution. This was by far the worst experience I have had at a restaurant in Downey, and unfortunately, I will not be returning.

The food is super yummy. Topping it with great vibe and service. We come here two weeks in a row. Definitely recommend to people around the neighborhood!

This was the perfect spot for a quick breakfast. It was quick but the food was a well prepared and fresh . This vibes are nice ; it gives a little bit like modern day aesthetic cafe/diner. Really nice !Service was good ; I was given lots of option and what was a fan favorite My meal 10/10 Machaca Scramble ; which came with short ribs, eggs, peppers salsa and guacamole with breakfast potatoes and choice of bread . Nice portion and fairly priced

First time coming here, we ordered the steak wrap, and some green chilaquiles with steak and beans. The steak on both items was really good & so tender. Really good wrap overall. The chilaquiles that my wife got were also good, although the sauce could have a bit more flavor, it was mostly tangy. They are pretty busy in the morning, but have a lot of seating so we got a table pretty fast. The place got your average brunch feel, I'll be coming back for the steak wrap, but that's pretty much it. Also, it is on the pricier side of brunch; averaging $70 for a two person meal.

Good was great! Went with a church group breakfast club :) Service amazing. We did outdoor seating and it wasn't too cold in the morning. The servers kept offering refills on coffee. Great place! We had a lovely time!

When you walk up to the restaurant, there will be a host waiting for you. They will ask you whether you prefer to sit outside or inside. They will give you a card and ask you to choose a table. Once they give you the card, you go up to the cashier and place your order. They will give you a number card to place on your table. Tip is not required, but the screen will pop up at time of payment whether you would like to leave a tip or not. I ordered their steak and eggs with hashbrowns and sourdough toast ($30), and fresh squeezed orange juice ($6). I think it was a little too pricy for what I ordered. We chose to sit outside because it was a gorgeous day and it was sunny. There was a glass bottle of water for us and silverware. While we dined, we didn't really see anyone that came to check on us. At the end, when we were finished with our meals, we needed some containers. Like I said, there wasn't anyone to ask for anything, but there was a station that had some containers already set up for self service. Their fresh squeezed (machine like Jamba's) orange juice was a little on the tart side, but it was fresh. When our order came, the food plating and presentations were beautiful and very colorful. I really enjoyed their hashbrowns because it wasn't your typical thinly chopped potatoes. They were thick and it was golden brown. The steak was cooked to my liking, medium rare. I wanted more butter for my toast, but couldn't get anyone to come over and assist me. They have two gender neutral bathrooms. The restroom smelled very citrusy and was very clean. Each time we looked over at the entrance, there was a long line to dine in or place an order to go. After we finished, we also ordered some food to takeout for our families. We had to go back in line and place our order. The only difference is that they ask for your phone number and will text you when your order is ready for pickup. There were a few benches just outside of the restaurant for you to sit and wait. I'm not sure if I will return, my husband said their chilaquiles weren't that great and that he had better. I wish there was more table service assistance. That's my honest opinion.

Food was great! Hostess was kind. The cashier was kind also. This was my second time here and the first time was full service. I was surprised that time, we had to order to go style and then seat ourselves. Not sure if we ever had a waiter. A waiter did come by and give us water and bring our food, but he never returned. He also babbled about us having to move tables, but the hostess told us to sit anywhere we wanted (outside). Then he said he was confused. Followed by never returning to check on us once. The very kind and hospitable staff that maintained the tables looked out for us. He brought us additional water bottles, hot sauce, jalapeños etc. He should get a raise and promotion. Didn't catch his name. No complaints about the food!

Poached Neighborhood Kitchen presents itself as the kind of elevated brunch destination that promises thoughtful execution and a polished dining experience. Unfortunately, the reality falls noticeably short of that expectation. While the food itself is serviceable, it never rises beyond what you might expect from a standard at-home breakfast spread. Nothing on the table felt particularly memorable, inventive, or worth returning for. The biggest disappointment came in the details, but really lack thereof. The fruit served alongside the meal had the unmistakable appearance and texture of pre-packaged, bulk-distributed produce, lacking the freshness and vibrancy you would hope for from a restaurant positioning itself as a neighborhood kitchen. It gave more cafeteria than curated brunch. Service also struggled to meet even basic hospitality standards. Water refills required repeated attempts to get someone's attention, and neighboring tables were similarly left flagging down staff for utensils and tableware. Once the order was placed and food delivered, attentiveness seemed to disappear almost entirely. I'm not sure where the standard is set.. Given the location and atmosphere, there's an expectation of a more refined and welcoming experience, but the execution never quite supports the price point or reputation. If you do visit, avoid outdoor seating unless you're prepared for an even more disconnected service experience. Ultimately, there are far better places to spend your brunch budget. Especially when this is the kind of meal many could comfortably recreate at home with fresher ingredients and more care. If you're going to have competitive price points for these meals they should at least match.

Excellent brunch spot in the Downey area. Really enjoyed the seasonal menu of pumpkin French toast - it had pear on top! The chile quiles eggs Benedict was also solid! The coffee is pretty standard. The servers are super attentive and come around frequently to check if the table needed any water. Located in a parking lot with easy parking. The lines go by quickly since they have a large outdoor and indoor dining area (went at 9:30am on a Saturday).

The line was long but the wasn't. Your whole party needs to be together where the attendant will give you your table to sit in and you can order your food at the counter. I actually prefer this method because it makes going to brunch with a group easier to just pay for themselves instead of splitting the bill. Interior was pleasant, the patio was huge and perfect for a sunny day. I thought the food was great. It all came out within 5 minutes of us ordering and the portions were large. Great spot .

The wait wasn't too long and food was quick after placing our order at the register. I ordered the chilaquiles rojo. The portion side is big. This was on the spicy size but had great flavor! The side of black beans were just okay. I heard great things about the pancakes. I ordered the classic pancakes which comes with berries. They were just okay. I prefer buttermilk pancakes and these reminded me of gluten-free pancakes.

I went here for brunch with my girlfriends on a Monday (of all days... lol)! Parking is free and plentiful in the parking lot. We stood in line, got our seat assignment, then stood in the next line to order our food. Everything was a quick and smooth process. The portions are pretty good and the food was also yummy. I got the machaca scramble which came with a side (I chose salad) and toast. Everything was well seasoned. My girlfriends got the egg sandwich and breakfast burrito. The Sando looked tasty and the egg looked fluffy! The burrito was huge! Very nice portions. Also got a side of the fries to share. Overall, pleasant experience

First time trying this spot. I love the quality of the food: local and organic. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing and so was the service. I asked for an "extra" hot coffee and that's exactly what I received. We went early in the morning so it wasn't busy at all but it sure picked up as the morning was going. They have the option of an outside patio or inside. Highly recommend it.

Are they open today, on memorial day?

    Yes 7am-2pm

Do they accept phone orders? And do they give out something for birthdays?

They accept phone orders. Idk if they give out anything for birthdays.

Is this like cafeteria style? Order at a counter and then be seated ? If so, what if you want to order another drink or something else, would I have to go back in line?

Yes. You wait in line for a reserved seat and then you are able to go up to the counter to order. Once you have your reserved seat, you do not need to get back in line. You can go right to the counter to order again.

Anyone know if you can order "to go"?

Yes! Head to their website and view their online menu to order takeout.

    Are dog allowed?

Theres an outside area that I'm sure I've seen a dog. Not sure about inside 🤔

For party of 12 Do i need reservation?

    Reservations are not required.

Are dogs allowed in the patio?

Yes went there yesterday. They're allowed on the patio :)

Do they accommodate large parties, like 10 or 12?

They can on the outside patio. I would call ahead and ask. I saw them moving tables around to accommodate a larger party, not 12 but large, 5 or 6.

Hello do we need proof of vaccination or just a negative covid test?

You don’t need any for the time being.

Do I need reservations befor I go?

    No--- walk ups

    Do you have parking?

    Yes they do

    No they don't

    Do you have gluten-free options?

    Yes they do

Is there bottomless mimosas here? I don't see it on the menu but Ive heard its apart of Sunday brunch?

They have mimosas but not bottomless.

    Is there currently outdoor dining?

    Yes.

Are you open for mothered day?

    Yes 7am to 2pm

Hi. I just want to know if reservations for this Sunday's Mother's Day are necessary and/or being accepted for brunch? Thanks.

Hi unfortunately we do not accept reservations. If your planning on joining us tomorrow we can only suggest arriving early and with your entire party present. Thanks for reaching out and happy Mother’s Day.

Are you doing indoor seating yet?

Yes, they had indoor seating. It is very limited, most of the seats are still outdoors.

Will you have black eyed peas tomorrow?

    Probably not

But quick understanding the term suffices. As I entered Mandala Cantina, I knew that I had stepped inside a vibe of Latin frenzy and buck--- it was replete with a sophisticated backyard boggie energy. Or in other words, the carne asada barbecue had adopted an elegant, glamorous and modern Talum motif that hit with bright mellow lights, beige beauty all around and a good time fueled by tequila shots and cocktails. I was sat at the bar, but I was warned that my sit would be bellow the regular bar line. So I sat alone, and I could look up at everyone else sat from by de-elevated sit. I was ok, I had arrived late, I was by myself with no reservation and on a whim, so I took my corner seat and did my best to forget that I sat below everyone's eye level. The party vibe was strong and palpable all across the bar. In fact, I have been to very few bars where the move was to sit, yet, the music and crowd almost demanded that we acted like we were on a club, but sitting down. More clearly, I wanted to move and dance but since there was no space, and we were playing Mexican bingo, we were implicitly required to sit and dance. For those who did not, the party still pulsed. There was this huge Cantaro (Mexican clay cup or vase) with six straws. So like a fishbowl drink that is commong in Tiki or Island theme bars, but in a large Mexican mug. This guy was moving it around while he was filmed in a way where he showed the drink for six like Mufasa showed Simba to the residents of Pride rock. So I am basically saying that all the people in the bar and crowd found a way to honor the old school hits of Reggaton and Banda that dominated the airwaves of the spot. I could not help but beat my head back and forth when Oye Mi Canto played and the lasers of the spot moved around wildly. In short, it was an experience that can be described as lit. The experience of game play was also electric. As soon as you entered, you were asked to pick a card from a large stack. You were also required to get some frijolitos-- small beans, that did not jump. I put all my beans into my card and removed them as my cards were called. I came close to winning, and maybe I did, but it was hard to focus amidst the noise and bop, so maybe I did win and did not register that one of my cards had been called so its frijolito remain on top of that square. Regardless, of the lack of victory I expeirenced I was still very happen I went here to celebrate Cinco De Mayo with appropriate festivities. After I soon sat, some tacos were placed in front of me. They were for my neigbor. I was honest and made them aware that they were not for me. After all a Mexico Hero-- Benito Juariez reminds us that respeto a lo ajeno es la paz. I've tried multiple times to call and speak to a manager about what happened, but after receiving no response, here I am leaving a Yelp review. This wasn't my first time at Mandala, but it will very likely be my last. I made my reservation the same day Mexico won and reservations opened. I reserved a table for 8 people at 3:45 PM, which was the maximum party size available. I arrived around my reservation time, definitely before 4:00 PM, and security directed me to wait in the line designated for guests with reservations. By around 4:30 PM, the reservation line had barely moved, yet I watched other people walk up, give their names, and be let inside. At the same time, I could clearly see two reserved tables for eight sitting completely empty.I finally asked one of the waitresses, "I reserved for 8 people, and I see those two tables are empty. May I ask what the hold up is?" She asked for my name, looked up my reservation, confirmed it was there, and then told me, "It was canceled." I asked, "What was the reason? I've been here." She replied, "You never checked in before 4:00 PM." Which in fact I did, and security even confirmed that I had arrived before 4:00 PM. Despite that, no one was willing to honor my reservation. At that point I told her, "Only three people from my party of eight are here. Can we just get a table for the three of us?" She spoke with another waitress, and they came back saying it would be standing room only. I asked, "Why?" Again, they referred me back to my supposedly canceled reservation. By now I was beyond frustrated. While they spent another five minutes trying to "figure something out," I continued watching people walk up, give their names, and immediately be seated. Meanwhile, the two reserved tables for eight were still sitting empty. Then I was told, "The best we can do is standing room at the bar, or you can stand anywhere in the restaurant with one of the cocktail tables, but there's a $100 minimum per person." That requirement was never advertised or mentioned when I made my reservation. I reminded her, "This isn't my first time here." She simply replied, "Or you can stand at the bar. No minimum." At that point, it was so close to game time that I just wanted to get inside. We were never greeted--menus were simply placed in front of us. And throughout all of this, those two reserved tables for eight remained empty. The biggest lie I heard all afternoon was, "We're at capacity." I must have heard that at least 10 times. If Mandala was truly at capacity, how were people continuously walking in without reservations and being seated? Why were guests with confirmed reservations turned away while empty reserved tables sat untouched? Thankfully, the game was delayed until 6:00 PM, which gave us enough time to leave and take our business elsewhere. This was poor planning, poor communication, misleading reservation practices, and some of the worst customer service I've experienced. I wasted my time, my gas, and what should have been an exciting afternoon watching the Mexico game with family and friends. I expected much better from a place I'd enjoyed before. Instead, I left feeling ignored, frustrated, and completely disappointed. I rest my case.

The decor and ambiance make it a great place for celebrating a special occasion. I made reservations for my birthday dinner with a party of eight. I brought my own cake, and the staff was kind enough to store it in their refrigerator until we were ready for dessert, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the service was where the experience fell apart. Since gratuity is automatically added for larger parties, it felt like there was very little sense of urgency or attentiveness throughout the evening. It took quite a while for our drink orders to be taken and served. Our food also came out at different times, with some side dishes arriving well after the entrées had already been served. The only explanation we received came later when a supervisor personally brought out the missing sides and apologized, explaining there had been a delay because they had to prepare a fresh batch of rice. While I appreciated the communication, it would have been helpful if someone had updated us sooner. During the meal, our server was changed, and we hoped the service would improve, but unfortunately, the experience remained the same. The food and drinks were beautifully presented, but the flavors didn't quite live up to how impressive everything looked. My rating is based primarily on the food, but if I were rating the service alone, it would be one star. Considering it was a Sunday and the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, the slow service was especially disappointing. Sadly, this wasn't the birthday dinner experience I was hoping for, and I don't plan on returning.

My absolute favorite is the Greek chicken salad--I can't even explain how good it is, it's just that delicious every single time. Recently, my sisters surprised me for my birthday by taking me there, and we had such a great time. It made the experience even more special. Their pastries are also amazing--fresh and so tasty. What really stands out to me is the customer service. We had such a kind and friendly server who took the time to talk with us, which made us feel so welcome. That's the kind of service that keeps you coming back. We ended up staying for almost three hours because that's how comfortable and relaxed we felt at The Marketplace. It truly feels like a place where you can enjoy great food and great company.

Im annoyed by how expensive it was. I'm so disappointed because they used to give a lot more than just 4 pcs of pita too when you order a full appetizer side. You get better back for your buck if you get a sandwich because it comes with two pretty large sides... the same size as a regular appetizer lol. The food used to be so good back then. The recipe and flavors have changed. Service is always great and ambiance is fun though. It's very clean here.
