    Birria Benedict
    Glo C.

I wanted to love this place but it just wasn't it. I ordered the Birria Benedict, it was not good at all. The meat was almost like it was blended (almost like a sloppy Joe) minimal taste, no seasoning or spiciness, it had some hollandaise sauce, and the muffin was hardly toasted. The hash brown even lacked flavor. Three of the four meals we ordered were cold. It was pretty pricy. As for the service, the order taker in the front was meh, nothing welcoming about her, maybe because we were the first ones there. We will not go back.

This morning we had breakfast at Poached Kitchen -- and it's quickly become a regular for us. We used to go to their Downey location, but now that they've opened one in Whittier (only 10 minutes away ), it's our go-to. First off, the space is beautiful -- tons of natural light, great music, and an upbeat, welcoming vibe that's perfect for a breakfast spot. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and super helpful. Now, the food. I ordered the breakfast burrito -- it's ginormous and packed with potatoes, sausage, chorizo, cheese, and eggs. Super flavorful and honestly one of those meals where you just want to keep eating even when you're full. We also shared the blueberry ricotta pancake for the table and it was stellar. The blueberry compote wasn't overly sweet, and the ricotta balanced everything out perfectly. To drink, I tried the dulce de leche latte (I usually go for the vanilla), and it was so good -- definitely adding it into the rotation. My friend had the eggs Benedict and was raving about it too. Overall, this is such a solid breakfast spot -- great food, great service, great vibe. Definitely a regular for me.

This is an order at the counter and go sit style establishment. They will bring the food out to you. It is a bit pricey, but the food was delicious. I tried the birria Benedict and it was a large portion, great flavor, and a hint of spice. My husband tried the salmon Benedict and really enjoyed it. My favorite was the seasonal waffle. It was amazing. Perfectly sweet, and had a great texture balance. I would go back to that alone. Service here was also great. Food did not take long, and we were checked on a couple of times.

Delicious food and great service. We were seated outside immediately. We had hoped to sit indoors, as there appeared to be available seating both when we arrived and when we left, but we were told that only outdoor seating was available. The food was excellent, and we enjoyed our visit overall.

It's my second time here and the atmosphere and the service is still so great that deserve 6 stars. My son ordered the chai latte hot (yes, i made him) and he loves it. It is so flavorful with the right kick of spice with wonderful aroma that he finished it before me. I love my salted caramel latte with good balance for the creamy and sweet sense. We share the chicken and waffle and house Benedict. We are not really a fan for the ham part of the Benedict and hash brown has mild cheese flavor and taste good, but i will choose salad next time because I really love that last time. Chicken strip is very crispy and the waffle is in its perfect balance between fluffiness and cruschiness. Will definately come to try their steak breakfast next time.

Poached has such a cute and refreshing brunch vibe -- clean, new, and bright. We arrived right around opening, and I loved the casual ordering style: order at the register like a café, grab a number, and choose your own table. We tried the classic breakfast plate with bacon, potatoes, and scrambled eggs, along with their seasonal Pumpkin & Pear Cream French Toast. The breakfast plate was large, filling, and nicely presented. The French toast was delicious and the pear was perfectly juicy, but there was a slight aftertaste from a sprinkle of seasoning (maybe nutmeg or cloves) that I personally wasn't a fan of. Service was also fast and friendly. Even though it's a more casual setup, they checked in on us regularly to make sure we were doing okay, which I appreciated. I also ordered a green tea matcha latte -- 10/10. So good. It is on the pricier side for brunch, but honestly that seems to be the norm these days. I'd definitely come back, just maybe not super often. Overall, a great spot for a cute brunch outing!

Food here is always made fresh. The ingredients to my breakfast chilaquiles (green) are all cooked to perfection and more than enough for a perfect serving! Black beans that come with my meal are just the right side to this meal and you can get your eggs made to your choice. Service is frequently offered at table and the ambiance to my choice outside dining is so beautiful and welcoming. I give this breakfast location a HUGE must try! Thank you for always making my breakfast special and inviting. Definitely coming back!

I'm so glad Poached is now in Whittier. Their food is always delicious and every bite is perfect! I've had their house Benedict and today I tried the Smoked Salmon Benedict and had to get the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, for the table, which are sublime.

Cool little spot, have tried a few different things on the menu and so far the huevos rancheros, breakfast tacos, and eggs Benedict are the standouts. All the servers here are very prompt, the place can feel kind of hectic at times because of the tight spacing between seating but it's a welcomed addition to Whittier.

Amazing morning family date. We enjoyed our visit but there were a long wait. When we finally got in we order at the cashier first and then they give us a table number to sit on. We found ours and enjoyed a fresh cup of cool water. Staff were friendly and helpful. There's plenty of parking space as long as there's movement happening otherwise, there's no parking haha. We did go in a Sunday Morning so that would explain a lot. We liked our visit and we enjoyed the time. Overall was good.

The food is delicious! Didn't need to add syrup to the waffle, it was already sweet. Didn't care for the coffee at all, it is way too strong :/ My husband traded his coffee for a hot chocolate and loved it. Not too sweet. Only thing I would change is the coffee brand.

First time trying Poached. Order at the front counter, take your # & find a seat /table. Some tables had a RESERVED sign ‍ Ordered Salmon Benedict w/hash browns 7/10 towards the benedict because the wilted /wet taste to bite from the greens was pretty gross! The hash browns 9/10 Fresh Orange juice 8/10 Scrambled eggs were delicious! Lemon ricotta pancake was 5/10 taste was similar to reg pancake (no hint of ) Ambiance was inviting & cute! They are going to need black out shades for when the sun is out because where we sat, it was way too hot by the window.

Excellent experience - can't believe how fast the food came out and how good it was! Dulce de leche latte was a tasty as the foam was beautiful. Churro waffle was yummy, and the Brunch Burrito was awesome with the short rib and green tomatillo salsa. Servers were all very nice and helpful. Will definitely be coming back.

A weekend brunch with friends brought me to Madre's Whittier, where the menu offered plenty of tempting options--and a few unexpected lessons about ordering seafood. I tried the Ensenada Omelet, loaded with shrimp, salmon, crab, and octopus. Now, I'm a seafood lover, but octopus and I aren't exactly close friends. I asked if it could be removed, but since the seafood mix is pre-made, the octopus had already RSVP'd to the party. The omelet was good, topped with a creamy sauce, but not something I'd order again. The crab appeared to be imitation crab, and while everything was prepared well, it just wasn't a standout for me. The real star? The strawberry pancakes. Delicious! Next time, I'd order those with a side of eggs and call it a win. I also sampled the chilaquiles, and now that's a dish I'd come back for. The Tiramisu Latte was another favorite--not overly sweet and packed with that classic tiramisu flavor I love. A special shoutout to our waitress, Annie, who was attentive, friendly, and made our brunch experience even better. My Verdict: Skip the Ensenada Omelet and build your brunch around the stars of the menu instead. The strawberry pancakes are the must-order item, the chilaquiles are a strong savory choice, and the Tiramisu Latte ties everything together. If you order wisely, Madre's delivers a brunch worth coming back for.

The lady who seated us was very friendly and pretty attentive and especially considering she wad handling a lot of other tables. Both the house eggs Benedict and house French toast were good. Was expecting crispy bacon on the benny considering the description, but the only difference from classic seemed to be the avocado. The benny egg and muffin were both collected well, especially the eggs they did a great job on those. Wife didn't like the flavor of the hollandaise sauce, but thought it was fine. She liked the French toast much better. You did not need syrup as the butter cream and chocolate sauce were plenty sweet on their own. Half serving is probably ok for one person, full was nice to share. The bathroom was clean, large, and single person--great for a pit stop before you head out! The mason jar waters were cool. I ordered the "House full French Toast", and it is loaded with sliced strawberries and bananas, and drowned in chocolate drizzles. The idea was to enjoy my coffee while getting organized--paying bills, planning calendar events, and having the opportunity to focus without any distractions from my usual surroundings. In search of the perfect spot, I turned to Yelp, a reliable resource for uncovering hidden gems nearby. Upon stepping into the coffee shop, I was immediately greeted with warm hospitality, setting the tone for a delightful experience. The ambiance of the place was truly captivating--it was bright and welcoming, infused with an aesthetic charm that instantly put me at ease. I couldn't help but be intrigued by the design elements throughout the shop, which added an inviting touch to its overall atmosphere. Before I settled in, I asked the staff if I could snap a few photos to capture the essence of this delightful space. They graciously welcomed my request, and I was shown to my table, which, quite uniquely, was designated by a number--a small detail that I found charming. As I browsed the menu, I encountered a small conundrum: I wasn't entirely sure what to order. I wanted to break the mold and try something out of the ordinary. My curiosity was piqued by their exclusive offering of Café de la Olla--a traditional hot drink that piqued my interest right away. I ultimately settled on a hearty plate that included rice, beans, and enticing potato tostones, accompanied by two beautifully cooked sunny-side-up eggs. As I waited for my order, I noticed the café was filled with the sweet sounds of old-school music from the '60s and '70s, which only enhanced the cozy ambiance while I sipped my drink. Now, let's talk about the food! I must say, I rated the café itself a solid 4 out of 5 for its overall charm, while the rice earned a respectable 4 out of 5. The beans were rich in flavor and received a fair 3.9 out of 5. The potato tostones, delicately bathed in a savory red sauce, stood out with an impressive score of 4.3 out of 5--these are a must-try if you visit! And as for the sunny-side-up eggs, they were good, but hey, eggs are eggs, right? Overall, the entire experience was quite enjoyable, from the delightful food to the warm atmosphere. A special shout-out goes to Ana, whose exceptional customer service made my visit even more memorable. The combination of fantastic service, inviting aesthetics, and satisfying food truly made for a perfect morning retreat. I can't recommend this spot enough for anyone looking for a relaxing place to unwind and focus on what matters.

Unfortunately we had a very unpleasant experience with the lady at the front. My entire group felt…read moreshe had a rude tone when we were asking regular questions. We didn't get her name but she had glasses and septum nose piercing. She was more accommodating at then end but we were very off put at the beginning and it left a bad taste in our mouths. Our server at our table was the complete opposite. Very attentive and made the group less angry with our initial treatment. Wish I got her name to share. The desert and cocktails were nice but due to the service it did not make up for the overall experience. Desert: Tiramisu 4/5 - great flavor, ratio of cream was too much compared to cake portion Canolli 4/5 - duo flavors were nice and had a good shell with crunch Crème brûlée 2/5 - pistachio flavor was light and it's was almost too warm and liquidy. Cocktails overall some major hits and other misses. Sgroppino 5/5 - strong but with a great flavor profile Dragon fruit cocktail 2/5 - too light tasting, not much flavor or alcohol? Gave more juice Peach Bellini 4.5/5 - table side pour is nice touch and rest of bottle was nice. Syrup has a sourness but mixed in with Bellini and gelato and tasted just right. Melontini - 2.5/5 light, somewhat good flavor but nothing memorable. Ambience seems nice but it can be loud inside with open floor plan.
