We had a great experience at NYX Steakhouse in Uptown Whittier and will definitely be back. The cocktails were excellent, and our server, David, really made the experience. My husband prefers sweeter wines, and David was able to recommend one that was exactly what he was looking for. He was personable, funny, and attentive throughout the meal. We started with the ceviche, which was fresh, flavorful, and very refreshing. For our entrées, we both ordered the ribeye steaks with mashed potatoes, and we shared the Brussels sprouts for the table. Everything was cooked well and absolutely delicious. The only downside was that the kitchen was a bit slow. We had a 5:00 p.m. reservation, and the restaurant wasn't busy yet, so we were a little surprised by the wait. I made an online reservation and was actually excited for Mother's Day for once. Then my dad decided a 6 PM dinner reservation was "too late" and requested lunch instead. So back online I went and changed everything to a 1 PM reservation. Mother's Day comes around, we purposely had a light breakfast thinking we'd be ready for a nice steakhouse lunch.We walk in, everything looks beautiful, we order drinks... and then realize they were only serving brunch, not lunch. I came across this Gem while I was in Santa Fe springs and I checked my yelp for a steakhouse nearby. It came up and it was just opening so we stopped in without a reservation. It's in uptown Whittier in a nice location with plenty of parking areas on the street it in a lot . From the Front doorway to the walkway it' is a very good decorative restaurant with a cool looking bar top and hi top tables in the Bar area. And regular nice tables throughout the rest of the place. I enjoyed the artichoke hearts with a spicy sauce, they have the best bone marrow with cilantro on it. I rarely leave negative reviews, especially for local businesses because I genuinely love supporting Uptown Whittier restaurants. But our Mother's Day experience at Nyx was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We arrived excited to celebrate Mother's Day and were seated promptly... and then completely forgotten about. For 45 minutes, not a single employee came to our table. No server. No drink order. Not even water. Meanwhile, the tables around us were being greeted, served drinks, and even receiving their meals while we sat there wondering if anyone even knew we existed. What made it worse was that the restaurant did not even appear especially busy. If someone had simply acknowledged us and said, "We'll be with you shortly," we would have been understanding. Instead, we were ignored for nearly an hour without a single word. Eventually, we got up and walked out because it became painfully obvious nobody was ever coming to help us. A restaurant can survive a slow kitchen or a mistake with an order. What's harder to excuse is making customers feel invisible -- especially on Mother's Day, when families are trying to celebrate together. This was our first impression of Nyx, and unfortunately it will probably be our last. I would leave zero stars if Yelp allowed it. read more

We arrived at the restaurant for our 6 PM reservation to celebrate my wife's birthday, but it appeared that the host was unable to find it. We were seated promptly, but our server was not immediately visible. Fortunately, another server noticed that we had been seated for some time and kindly offered to take our order. We ordered the bone marrow for an appetizer, along with macaroni and cheese, a wagyu burger with fries, and seabass. Several minutes later, our assigned server appeared and attempted to take our order, despite it already having been placed. The food arrived quite quickly, as the restaurant did not seem particularly busy for a Saturday evening. However, the bone marrow was excessively salty, and we were surprised to find shredded beef added on top of the bone for a price of approximately thirty dollars. My burger, which was requested to be medium, arrived salty and with the exterior of the patty appearing burnt, almost as if it had been cooked on a grill with old food or grease residue. The fries did not taste freshly prepared. My wife's seabass was also notably salty. Finally, despite indicating on our reservation that it was my wife's birthday, this was never acknowledged by the server. Given the price point and the highly rated reviews, I had anticipated a more satisfying experience from this establishment. read more

It had a weird look to it and randomly came with a head of roasted garlic and five baby tomatoes for $48, crazy. The chicken dish was ate by others at my party and was said to be missing the lemon and herb. It was also hard to eat and they had to use their hands which sometimes you don't want to do. My sister tried to open the door to find that it was closed. We tried searching for another entry to no avail. My sister then started to question if it was even open and I showed her the yelp page which shows that they were indeed supposed to be open on Wednesdays starting at 4. As I kept trying to call the place, a couple walked up and tried to open the door as well. My sister told them that I have been trying to get a hold of someone and the couple said that they had a reservation there at 5:15. I then got more frustrated because why would their system allow them to make ANY reservations if the place was supposed to be closed?! Make it make sense. The couple left and another lady walked up to try to open the door. We explained the same thing to the lady and she explained that she had 6 other people meeting her up there and had no idea what to do. My sister and I were outside looking on yelp for other places to go to. We ended up at Azabu since it was walking distance down the street. Right when we walked in, we saw a sign promoting the new Nyx restaurant and I was in fumes!!! I told the host to take that sign down because it's not even open. The host said, "they aren't open on Wednesdays" and I had to explain to him EVERYTHING that just happened and how it just messed up my whole day. Wow, SOMEONE knows Nyx is closed on Wednesdays...not us because we read the hours on yelp. Anyways, my sister and I had an amazing time at Azabu. We've gone there before and the server ended up making my day a little better with his outstanding hospitality and i'm glad that Azabu's hours reflect when they are ACTUALLY open. I will never go back to Nyx unless they shut down and something else opens in place of it. If they forgot to update their hours and are that careless, what else are they being careless about?
