The food here was so good and the prime rib is a steak I think about often. Cooked to perfection and a huge portion, good enough to share. Our server was great, his family was sitting at the table next to us and he was incredibly attentive to all of us. Went there to celebrate both mine and my friends birthdays and catch up. Our waiter was real cool and recommended great drinks of choice. Our meal was great. I had the arrachera steak and would go back just for that. While we were eating we got a visit from the GM Hugo who was super nice and wished us a happy birthday as we were served some champagne. Tried out NYX in Whittier and honestly had such a good time. We got the pasta, Brussels sprouts, and ribeye -- everything was really good. The ribeye was cooked perfectly, super flavorful, and the Brussels sprouts were crispy in the best way. Pasta was solid too, no complaints at all. Drinks were great -- had an extra dirty gin martini and a margarita, both hit. They even brought us another round on the house which was a nice surprise. Service was really good too. Jay and another server with glasses were super nice and attentive the whole time, and the manager came by to check on us which I appreciated. I've been wanting to dine at Nyx since it first opened. However, I hate going anywhere in Whittier because of the lack of nearby freeways and amount of time driving on the streets. To add to that, parking can also be a hassle depending on where you go and time of day. My sister and I went out of our way yesterday to go to Nyx. We arrived around 5:10-5:15. My sister tried to open the door to find that it was closed. We tried searching for another entry to no avail. I tried to call the place to see what was going on or if they had to open the door for us - no one answered. My sister then started to question if it was even open and I showed her the yelp page which shows that they were indeed supposed to be open on Wednesdays starting at 4. As I kept trying to call the place, a couple walked up and tried to open the door as well. My sister told them that I have been trying to get a hold of someone and the couple said that they had a reservation there at 5:15. I then got more frustrated because why would their system allow them to make ANY reservations if the place was supposed to be closed?! Make it make sense. The couple left and another lady walked up to try to open the door. We explained the same thing to the lady and she explained that she had 6 other people meeting her up there and had no idea what to do. My sister and I were outside looking on yelp for other places to go to. We ended up at Azabu since it was walking distance down the street. Right when we walked in, we saw a sign promoting the new Nyx restaurant and I was in fumes!!! I told the host to take that sign down because it's not even open. The host said, "they aren't open on Wednesdays" and I had to explain to him EVERYTHING that just happened and how it just messed up my whole day. Wow, SOMEONE knows Nyx is closed on Wednesdays...not us because we read the hours on yelp. Anyways, my sister and I had an amazing time at Azabu. We've gone there before and the server ended up making my day a little better with his outstanding hospitality and i'm glad that Azabu's hours reflect when they are ACTUALLY open. I will never go back to Nyx unless they shut down and something else opens in place of it. If they forgot to update their hours and are that careless, what else are they being careless about? The Philly cheese steak sand which was well seasoned, and topped with a decent amount of cheese however I felt it could be juicier. The prime rib steak that I ordered was charred on all sides too much, it took away the flavour of the streak and made it too gritty. Overall the drinks were exceptional and the waiter was kind. But our Mother's Day experience at Nyx was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We arrived excited to celebrate Mother's Day and were seated promptly... and then completely forgotten about. For 45 minutes, not a single employee came to our table. No server. No drink order. Not even water. Meanwhile, the tables around us were being greeted, served drinks, and even receiving their meals while we sat there wondering if anyone even knew we existed. What made it worse was that the restaurant did not even appear especially busy. If someone had simply acknowledged us and said, "We'll be with you shortly," we would have been understanding. Instead, we were ignored for nearly an hour without a single word. Eventually, we got up and walked out because it became painfully obvious nobody was ever coming to help us. A restaurant can survive a slow kitchen or a mistake with an order. What's harder to excuse is making customers feel invisible -- especially on Mother's Day, when families are trying to celebrate together. I'm prefacing my comments with the recognition that Nyx is still in its soft opening stage, so still working out the kinks. Dined here tonight to celebrate my future daughter-in-law's birthday. Noted that we were celebrating her birthday in my reservation via Open Table. But, they never acknowledged it. Overall experience was not good. Menu -- no iced or hot tea or coffee available. No bread available. Kitchen -- entrees were brought out one at a time, with at least 15 minutes between first and last. Two orders of Chilean Sea Bass were brought out about 10 mins apart. No explanation why the delay, and they appeared like entirely different entrees. Dessert -- carrot cake wasn't very good and looked homemade, and not in a good way. Texture was like previously frozen. Overall, pretty disappointed. Hope they get it together before they officially open. read more
