The Downey location is the best IMO! Very large location, 2 lines, lots of table space, dedicated parking lot. The employees here have their process smooth and tight. People come out with several boxes and bags in tow and no item is missed. read more

Always great to go to Porto's. Nothing like Porto's! Excellent business model, high quality baked goods, coffees, and some food items. Great and friendly staff! Price points are reasonable. This location, Downey, was my go to place weekly when I worked close by. Now we mostly go to the Buena Park location, closer to home and use their Frozen Service. If you haven't tried their Frozen Service, definitely must try it! We have been using it since 2020 (we all try to forget that year but some great things came out of it like Porto's Frozen Service!). Doesn't matter the location, same great people and goods! And all of their expansion! That's a successful business model and keeps us all coming back again and again! We came around 9am on a Friday. Place was packed! When we left around 10am, there waa a long line outside waiting to get in to the two lines inside. Never seen this location this busy exception on the weekends and lunch time or holidays. They are organized and lots of staff and their lines move quickly. We ordered lunch and dine inside and of course ordered lots of goodies. Some new seasonal ones to try out. We never get tired of Porto's and they keep adding new items to keep our interest. As busy as it was we still found a table. There are many tables, inside and outside and they turnover. We ordered a Cubano Sandwich and Steak Torta to eat onsite. We also ordered Mini Pumpkin Pies for drssert but no room. Enjoyed those later with dinner. Cubana of course is always a great choice. The Steak Torta, first time trying it was excellent! We love their plantain chips! Mini Pumpkin Pies as good as Homemade and very pretty! All the pastries and cookies we brought home and for some friends, so good. Croissants (butter and chocolate), Guava Strudel (always a must!), Apple Strudel (new item and so good!), meat pies (another must!) and of course my favorite Dulce De Leche kisses! Once you have a taste of the freshness of the food here, you find yourself craving it. I'm a HUGE fan of Porto's! I have been here a few times and they NEVER disappoint. The service is spectacular. The lines can be long, but they move fast. If they notice the line isn't moving as it should, a worker will come around with drinks or snacks for everyone, thanking you for your patience. I had a turkey and cheese croissant that came with a couple plantain chips on the side. Then ordered a yuzu pear-idise lemonade to wash it down. At the last minute, I added three dulce besitos for my sweet tooth. Flavor on flavor on flavor! There is indoor as well as outdoor seating, shaded with umbrellas. The parking lot is directly behind it. They have valet parking available some days for $3, but I prefer to self park. Porto's never disappoints doesn't matter what location you are at. My first time here in Downey. I came to have lunch with my mom and daughter after a doctor's appointment in the area. What a beautiful restaurant. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking in the back. Friendly and welcoming customer service. We ordered three sandwiches and enjoyed every bite. My most favorite was the spicy chicken Milanese sandwich ... so so good. We also got iced lattes and some cheese rolls. A must when in Porto's. Lots of freshly baked pastries, breads etc. they serve salads, sandwiches, croissants, empanadas. Their potato balls are a must try also. First time at this location and by the lines outside, it's just as good as the other locations. I was the pick up person for a large pre order. The person ordering put me as the pick up person and it was such an easy process. I walked straight to the back and got In a very small quick line. Have your order confirmation number ready! I stepped to the side and got my pick up order in less than 5 minutes. The potato balls, cheese rolls, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate croissants were all delicious and just as good of quality as any other location I've been to. Parking is terrible here. Last time I visited this location was at least 12 years ago. Way bigger than before, extended the floor area. Staffs are still friendly and welcoming! Food was delicious. We stopped by after coming back from around downtown LA area. Cafe area was our first stop before heading towards the bakery area. The person taking our order suggested a few items; my wife and I went for their steak torta, which was 10/10, delicious!!! Went to the bakery and left the place with about 8 boxes? HAH! Not surprised. I usually walkout with 4 or 5 dozens of different items years ago every time I go here. My wife bought some items to freeze as well. It's really hard to beat the experience at Buena Park but the thing about this location is that Downey is a cute town and it reminded me of the smaller suburbs in Illinois. Porto's Bakery & Cafe in Downey hit me with a serious wave of nostalgia. Growing up around South Florida, places like Chico's and Vicky Bakery set the bar for Cuban bakeries, and more recently I've found that same comfort at Bia's Cafe Marianao and Cubano Bros in Chicagoland. Porto's takes that familiar experience and scales it up beautifully. It's a true bakery AND cafe, with cases full of savory bites, pastelitos, cakes, pastries, and sandwiches made with quality meats on fresh-baked bread. There's almost too much to choose from, which is a pretty good problem to have. I went with a Cuban coffee, papa rellena, media noche, and a guava and cheese pastelito. The papa rellena had a crisp exterior, fluffy potato, and savory beef filling. The media noche was warm, nicely pressed, and fresh, while the guava and cheese pastelito delivered that sweet, tangy, creamy combo that's hard to beat. The Cuban coffee tied everything together perfectly. What surprised me most was the value. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared, yet the prices were much more reasonable than I expected for Southern California. I was fully prepared for the "California tax" and somehow escaped relatively unscathed. The Downey location is HUGE, bright, exceptionally clean, and buzzing with activity. Despite the crowds, the staff was friendly, organized, and impressively efficient. Porto's feels like the best parts of the Cuban bakeries I grew up with, just on a much bigger stage. I love this place. We were down in LA and wanted to have lunch before we went home. The one close to us had a line down the block so we came to this one and got in. It had a shorter line and I think this one is bigger to. The staff here are amazing and work hard getting us through the line. There was a parking lot in the back. It was packed but we were able to find a spot. The place is really big inside. Lots of spots to eat here. They have lines going in both directions of the front counter. Two counters in a large L shape. We went to the left. We waited about 12 minutes so not bad since the place was packed. We ordered a lot since we are not down here that often. The lady at the counter was so nice and friendly. Very patient since we were looking at everything to order. Didn't want to miss anything We ate some of the stuff there and of course took a bunch home with us to eat at home. i was in a craving for tuna fish so I got the melt. It was so yummy and hit the spot. The wife got a Strawberry pastry. It was amazing. We got the cheese bread that we love. and some other pastries for home. Everything was great as always. Porto's food is always top tier, there is no question about that. One thing thats a normal custom is great customer service but this day, the customer service was superb. We had our annual Bureau meeting and for some odd reason our order was suppose to be picked up at 8am but on the order was 8pm. I can't remember the manager's name, but he came, was very gracious. He said they would gladly accommodate and proceeded to talk to me until our order was ready. The craziest part was the conversation was very insightful. For those can be very busy, but their food is always phenomenal and the service is always superb. read more

Make sure you get in the correct line and check out the menu online. We got: turkey croissant sandwich, Cuban sandwich and a burger. I would say that the burger was average. The Cuban sandwich was good and the turkey croissant sandwich was excellent. Don't forget to get the pastries as well. We usually get: cheese rolls, potato balls, guava and cheese pastry, croquettes. It won't disappoint. It gets really crowded during lunchtime and finding a table can be hard so you can always get your food to go. Also if you order ahead online, you can just do a pick-up, which allows you to cut the long lines. If you plan to eat there, make sure you put the buzzer on a specific location on the table so the servers can find you and bring you your food. read more

What is a socal trip without Porto's?!?! This dleightfully crispy, delicious and fluffy goods that are sold at such an affordable price is must grab. We arrived at 10am and the line was short. In general, the staff knows how to move quickly and efficiently. They will bring the food out to you if you are eating in and your ringer will ring if you are doing takeout. I grabbed 4 cheese rolls, 4 potato balls, a cubano sandwich and a mango smoothie. I wolfed them all down and it was all so well made. I love coming to this place, when I'm in the area. This is a special treat for me since there isn't a Porto's in my city. We like their pastries and food. The place is very busy almost all the time. When you walk in, there are two lines. One line is for food and pastries ordering and the other is just for pastries orders. After you order you go and stand on the side you order from and wait for them to call your name to pay. If you ordered food, when you go to pay, they will give you a pager to pick up your food, on the side you pick up your food. It was a little confusing at first, but after you do it. You get their system. We ordered a bunch of pastries to take home and some lunch. For lunch, we both order a sandwich and soup. Both items are pretty good. The clam chowder soup was loaded with ingredients. It had really good flavor. The sandwich I got was the Cubano. It was supposed to be like a panini, but it wasn't warm enough. The bread was toasty, but it was not warmed enough to melt the cheese or heat up the meat. I only ate half and saved the rest for later. I heated it up the next day in the air fryer and it tasted better. My husband ordered the tuna melt and that one tasted really good. They are pretty known for their cheese rolls. They are so good when they are fresh and warm. I really like the cheese rolls. We also order chocolate croissants, strudels, and a strawberry custard croissants. They were all so good. Parking is a bit challenging. They are so busy that there is not parking. I've never been here when it was not busy. The lines do go pretty quick and the staff are pretty nice. read more

If you're from Los Angeles, you know about this place. If you don't, you've probably been living under a rock. I've been to three of their locations. I come here the most since it's the closest to where I live. On any given day, it's going to be packed with customers. It's common for the line to extend way past the entrance. No one cares about the lines. Why? You consistently get delicious food at a reasonable price from extremely efficient and pleasant staff. This place is famous for their baked goods, but they have other stuff too. My favorite items include the potato balls, guava strudels, Parisian chocolate cake, fruit tart, Cubano (Cuban) sandwich, and strawberry smoothie. There's a bunch of other stuff I like, but I'm going to stop here since I'm trying to keep my review relatively short for once. There are so many reasons why I love Porto's. But here's one final reason. Tipping culture is getting out of control. Not at Porto's. They don't even give you the option to tip their employees (even though they will bring food to your table if you dine in and clean your table after you leave). Which means they probably pay their staff a fair wage. Keep doing what you're doing Porto's. You rock. read more

All of their locations are fire and they keep the same great taste at every spot, which I love because you always know what you're going to get no matter which location you go to. My favorite thing here is the potato balls you honestly cannot come here without trying them! If you can, try all of them. If you can't, then you for sure have to try the original (papa rellena). The seasonal turkey one in November is amazing too. They pack so much flavor. I'm a huge mashed potato and ground beef fan, so that combination together is just sooo good. The chicken croquette isn't bad either, but not my go to order. The matchas and coffees are pretty good too. If you like sweeter drinks, you'll love it here. If you're not big on sweet drinks, you can always ask for it a little less sweet or add an extra shot. Parking can depend on the location and it can get a little busy because they're popular, but the inside is always nice, spacious, clean, and there's plenty of seating. OMG! Their deserts are so good I can not tell you how many things i brought hut it was a big back girl amount but i was not the only one i was there with my family and they did the same. I didn't care for the food i brought but my son and sister liked their food so i guess when it comes to the food it really does depend on what you like. The service and how they got through a long line in like five minutes cause they all worked well and together. The inside of the restaurant/ bakery was really cute as well, they have a little different vibe in each part of the restaurant but they all blended together giving a very unique feel to the place. Ok, This place is crazy. I mean crazy good! Do not expect fast service because they are so busy! And that's good! That means everything is fresh. They have 2 pastry lines and still both lines are busy. There is a nice lady who directed us to the shorter line. I was unsure if we could order coffee along with pastry or separately. But we pay for everything at once and then pick up the coffee at the coffee bar. So to clarify, the process: You go to the pastry line. They write down your order. Then they go and gather your pastries. Then you pay for your order, and if you have sandwiches or bread to be sliced you will be given a buzzer. Drink orders will need to be picked up at the coffee bar with your receipt. They will yell out your name when the drink orders are ready. I bought so many things but I have not tried all of them. I have tried their popular potato balls which is 10/5 And their iced mocha (mix it first don't be like me and assumes it's been mixed). 5/5 I will add more reviews of the other pastries when I get to them. I spoke with Alexander on the coffee bar area and he is so nice. He was so efficient in getting everyone their coffee. With the number of people waiting I was impressed with the team at how fast they got their coffee orders done. He suggested I tried their seasonal stuff because it is amazing. I can't wait to have it soon! The sandwiches took awhile but I think that's because they're all made fresh to order. No doubt I would go back often if I live closer by. The best bakery in town. Portos is worth the hype everything here is delicious. It has become a tradition in my family to get a Porto's cake for everyone's bday and we always enjoy it. We have tried most of them at this point but some stand outs are the Tres leches cake, mango mouse, and the chocolate raspberry. Additional, the cuban food is also very delicious and actually tastes home made not overly processed or greasy. Some stand outs for the food are the plato de pollo and cuban sandwich for me. The plato de pollo is a tender chicken breast in a citrus lime marinade it's sooo good and definitely my go to. Ambiance is always loud and busy which can be a lot and service takes a while because it's always busy (but honestly it's worth the wait and you can order ahead) the only thing you cant order ahead is the food plates so that's kind of a bummer. The only thing I don't love from here are the drinks they matcha is too sweet and doesn't taste like matcha and the guava lemonade didn't seem to mesh well imo but ive heard the coffee is great so maybe stick to that if you want a drink.
