Last time I visited this location was at least 12 years ago. Way bigger than before, extended the floor area. Staffs are still friendly and welcoming! Food was delicious. We stopped by after coming back from around downtown LA area. Cafe area was our first stop before heading towards the bakery area. The person taking our order suggested a few items; my wife and I went for their steak torta, which was 10/10, delicious!!! Went to the bakery and left the place with about 8 boxes? HAH! Not surprised. I usually walkout with 4 or 5 dozens of different items years ago every time I go here. My wife bought some items to freeze as well. Always bought their cheese rolls and now they a have new cheesy potato balls! Must try! Not sure when we'll be back here, especially with that 12-year gap!
Porto's never disappoints doesn't matter what location you are at. My first time here in Downey. I came to have lunch with my mom and daughter after a doctor's appointment in the area. What a beautiful restaurant. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking in the back. Friendly and welcoming customer service. We ordered three sandwiches and enjoyed every bite. My most favorite was the spicy chicken Milanese sandwich ... so so good. We also got iced lattes and some cheese rolls. A must when in Porto's. Lots of freshly baked pastries, breads etc. they serve salads, sandwiches, croissants, empanadas. Their potato balls are a must try also. Overall a great place to check out if you are in Downey.
Oh my beautiful Porto's with your long ass lines but short wait times! I love this place and I'm not alone in that pleasure. Their pastries are top tier. Their drinks are great and their sandwiches are really good. I took my partner for the first time and let's just say they were pleasantly surprised, especially by the price! I wish I would have ordered more. (Not pictured my guava strudel & almond croissant)
It's really hard to beat the experience at Buena Park but the thing about this location is that Downey is a cute town and it reminded me of the smaller suburbs in Illinois. This Porto's is not as big as Buena Park but it still had all my favorites such as: - cheese rolls - coconut strudels!! Don't sleep on dez!! - guava and cheese strudels - dulce de leche cookies Along with the convenient parking lot out back, I just loved the outdoor vibes here btw, you will have a fabulous experience at this Porto's!!
The food here is always good, not once have i had a bad experience with the food. The service, although the lines get long, is faster than expected. The atmosphere is nice and feels home like. Is always smells great inside and the service members are always friendly, nice and helpful.
I love Porto's, I recently discovered the turkey and candied bacon sandwich, and it has quickly become one of my favorites. The pickled onions really make the sandwich - they add the perfect tang and balance.
I love this place. We were down in LA and wanted to have lunch before we went home. The one close to us had a line down the block so we came to this one and got in. It had a shorter line and I think this one is bigger to. The staff here are amazing and work hard getting us through the line. There was a parking lot in the back. It was packed but we were able to find a spot. The place is really big inside. Lots of spots to eat here. They have lines going in both directions of the front counter. Two counters in a large L shape. We went to the left. We waited about 12 minutes so not bad since the place was packed. We ordered a lot since we are not down here that often. The lady at the counter was so nice and friendly. Very patient since we were looking at everything to order. Didn't want to miss anything We ate some of the stuff there and of course took a bunch home with us to eat at home. i was in a craving for tuna fish so I got the melt. It was so yummy and hit the spot. The wife got a Strawberry pastry. It was amazing. We got the cheese bread that we love. and some other pastries for home. Everything was great as always. Got to stop every time we come down South.
Porto's is always crazy busy and the lines are hella long but it does move really quick because they have nailed the entire operations. Make sure you get in the correct line and check out the menu online. We got: turkey croissant sandwich, Cuban sandwich and a burger. I would say that the burger was average. The Cuban sandwich was good and the turkey croissant sandwich was excellent. Don't forget to get the pastries as well. We usually get: cheese rolls, potato balls, guava and cheese pastry, croquettes. It won't disappoint. It gets really crowded during lunchtime and finding a table can be hard so you can always get your food to go. Also if you order ahead online, you can just do a pick-up, which allows you to cut the long lines. If you plan to eat there, make sure you put the buzzer on a specific location on the table so the servers can find you and bring you your food.
I love coming to this place, when I'm in the area. This is a special treat for me since there isn't a Porto's in my city. We like their pastries and food. The place is very busy almost all the time. When you walk in, there are two lines. One line is for food and pastries ordering and the other is just for pastries orders. After you order you go and stand on the side you order from and wait for them to call your name to pay. If you ordered food, when you go to pay, they will give you a pager to pick up your food, on the side you pick up your food. It was a little confusing at first, but after you do it. You get their system. We ordered a bunch of pastries to take home and some lunch. For lunch, we both order a sandwich and soup. Both items are pretty good. The clam chowder soup was loaded with ingredients. It had really good flavor. The sandwich I got was the Cubano. It was supposed to be like a panini, but it wasn't warm enough. The bread was toasty, but it was not warmed enough to melt the cheese or heat up the meat. I only ate half and saved the rest for later. I heated it up the next day in the air fryer and it tasted better. My husband ordered the tuna melt and that one tasted really good. They are pretty known for their cheese rolls. They are so good when they are fresh and warm. I really like the cheese rolls. We also order chocolate croissants, strudels, and a strawberry custard croissants. They were all so good. Parking is a bit challenging. They are so busy that there is not parking. I've never been here when it was not busy. The lines do go pretty quick and the staff are pretty nice.
I ordered some ham croquettes to bring home to my family in the Bay Area, but unfortunately when I opened the box later, they weren't included. I probably should've checked before leaving, but I also feel like that shouldn't be necessary. It was pretty disappointing. Aside from that, the overall experience was fine. The staff were all very polite, and I had a Cubano and a tamale at the location, both of which tasted really good.

From the potato balls to the empanadas to all of their sweets, everything is consistently delicious. The craziest thing about any Porto's location is that they are always busy and packed. Despite the crowds, the line never seems to stall and moves surprisingly fast. They have the system down to a science. I absolutely love this place, and one day I'll branch out and try more of the savory dishes that always smell and look incredible.

I come here the most since it's the closest to where I live. On any given day, it's going to be packed with customers. It's common for the line to extend way past the entrance. No one cares about the lines. Why? You consistently get delicious food at a reasonable price from extremely efficient and pleasant staff. This place is famous for their baked goods, but they have other stuff too. My favorite items include the potato balls, guava strudels, Parisian chocolate cake, fruit tart, Cubano (Cuban) sandwich, and strawberry smoothie. There's a bunch of other stuff I like, but I'm going to stop here since I'm trying to keep my review relatively short for once. There are so many reasons why I love Porto's. But here's one final reason. Tipping culture is getting out of control. Not at Porto's. They don't even give you the option to tip their employees (even though they will bring food to your table if you dine in and clean your table after you leave). Which means they probably pay their staff a fair wage. Keep doing what you're doing Porto's. You rock.

The staff is always welcoming and helpful in this craziness! We don't come often, but when we do come, it's always a treat! Got our favorites - chicken croquette, guava and cheese, pastries and my hubby's favorite, the meat pies! Of course, had to get the horchata cold brew! If you're lucky and have patience, you'll find parking in the parking structure!

All of their locations are fire and they keep the same great taste at every spot, which I love because you always know what you're going to get no matter which location you go to. My favorite thing here is the potato balls you honestly cannot come here without trying them! If you can, try all of them. If you can't, then you for sure have to try the original (papa rellena). The seasonal turkey one in November is amazing too. They pack so much flavor. I'm a huge mashed potato and ground beef fan, so that combination together is just sooo good. The chicken croquette isn't bad either, but not my go to order. The matchas and coffees are pretty good too. If you like sweeter drinks, you'll love it here. If you're not big on sweet drinks, you can always ask for it a little less sweet or add an extra shot. Parking can depend on the location and it can get a little busy because they're popular, but the inside is always nice, spacious, clean, and there's plenty of seating. The staff is always friendly, the prices are affordable, and even though I'm not huge on sweets, the pastries I've tried have actually been pretty good. read more
This was my first time going to Porto's. The lines were fairly long, but don't be intimidated - they move very fast. The gal taking our order was very sweet and made sure our order was correct since we ordered quite a few items. The other service members were very kind and attentive. My husband ordered an ice coffee, it was mostly milk with a splash of coffee. He wasn't a fan of the iced coffee. However, I ordered the iced matcha latte and it was wonderful. Came here for an early dinner. Food was good. I wanted a regular mojito but they only make strawberry. Why are they selling matcha drinks at a cuban place? Just odd. Everyone was friendly. Service is great. Luckily I came at a time when there was lots of parking and no long lines. read more

I recently came in to dine on a weekday morning because I was in the area. I have had the pastries and bakery items from here a bunch of times, but rarely have I came to dine in or for their lunch/dinner food!So first, I've never had any of their drinks before but I tried the Porto's House Cold Brew and oh my goodness it was actually so so good!! I loved it, I will definitely be getting it again. It wasn't super sweet at all, but nor was it bitter! I also tried the seasonal corn/bean poblano pepper soup. 10/10! I really liked it. You can get it in a bread bowl or in a cup. I chose the cup, and it still came with a piece of bread which is cool. I do know if you order the bread bowl to go though, they'll give it to you separately instead of placing it together! Side note, I picked up some bakery items while I was there as well, but a worker let me know that if you don't plan on getting any bakery items and only food you can just go straight to the register instead of getting in the line. Someone I was with didn't know that so thought I'd share! The girl who helped me was really nice, she answered my questions about the coffee and didn't make me feel rushed or bad for asking at all! It wasn't too busy when I went. I still had a bit of a wait time but nothing too crazy! Lots of dining space at this location and I personally enjoyed sitting outside. read more

Ok, This place is crazy. I mean crazy good! Do not expect fast service because they are so busy! And that's good! That means everything is fresh. They have 2 pastry lines and still both lines are busy. There is a nice lady who directed us to the shorter line. I was unsure if we could order coffee along with pastry or separately. But we pay for everything at once and then pick up the coffee at the coffee bar. So to clarify, the process: You go to the pastry line. They write down your order. Then they go and gather your pastries. Then you pay for your order, and if you have sandwiches or bread to be sliced you will be given a buzzer. Drink orders will need to be picked up at the coffee bar with your receipt. They will yell out your name when the drink orders are ready. I bought so many things but I have not tried all of them. I have tried their popular potato balls which is 10/5 And their iced mocha (mix it first don't be like me and assumes it's been mixed). 5/5 I will add more reviews of the other pastries when I get to them. I spoke with Alexander on the coffee bar area and he is so nice. He was so efficient in getting everyone their coffee. With the number of people waiting I was impressed with the team at how fast they got their coffee orders done. He suggested I tried their seasonal stuff because it is amazing. I can't wait to have it soon! The sandwiches took awhile but I think that's because they're all made fresh to order. No doubt I would go back often if I live closer by. All I have to say is, be prepared to wait for the amazing stuff. read more

Visiting from out of state, Porto's is a must if you've never been. They have several locations but their bakery has so many options for everyone, from savory to sweet you'll find something during your visit. We ended up taking several pastries to go. We also tried their coffee, I would say their coffee was good but nothing that was above and beyond. The bakery is the star of the show. Wish there was one in Arizona, we'll definitely be back. read more
Celebrated our Front of House Managers Birthday and they were delighted with both cakes.... It was such a nice treat, the chocolate cake with raspberry preserves was perfectly moist and decadent...the fruit tart had a nice balance of freshness and sweetness.... I pre-ordered the cakes a night prior- next day was a smooth pick up... it was busy on a Friday 3pm afternoon and it wasn't a hassle to pick up... parking is always a bit challenging though. read more

The best bakery in town. Portos is worth the hype everything here is delicious. It has become a tradition in my family to get a Porto's cake for everyone's bday and we always enjoy it. We have tried most of them at this point but some stand outs are the Tres leches cake, mango mouse, and the chocolate raspberry. Additional, the cuban food is also very delicious and actually tastes home made not overly processed or greasy. Some stand outs for the food are the plato de pollo and cuban sandwich for me. The plato de pollo is a tender chicken breast in a citrus lime marinade it's sooo good and definitely my go to. Ambiance is always loud and busy which can be a lot and service takes a while because it's always busy (but honestly it's worth the wait and you can order ahead) the only thing you cant order ahead is the food plates so that's kind of a bummer. The only thing I don't love from here are the drinks they matcha is too sweet and doesn't taste like matcha and the guava lemonade didn't seem to mesh well imo but ive heard the coffee is great so maybe stick to that if you want a drink. Overall I love Portos though and ill always come back 5/5 read more

Porto's is like the Disneyland of cafe's--from the time you walk in through the doors, fall in line, dine and finally leave, you're getting a world class experience. All points of the process are carefully considered: 1. The front-of-the house greeter will guide the crowds, maintaining a healthy flow of constant guests. 2. The lines are cued to prevent chaos 3. You get your own Porto's associate to help you with your order *Your drinks and hot food are brought to you if you dine in. *Drinks are otherwise given to you at the designated beverage area My favs 1. Potato Balls 2. Guava Cheese Rolls 3 Besitos Dulce de Leche 4. Chicken Croquette 5. Coffee Anyone visiting California should definitely visit Porto's! I think they should start selling merch. Parking IS AN ISSUE if you're here during breakfast or lunch hours. I came after 6pm on a Friday, so, I had no issues. read more

Love this place, the sandwiches are made to order, pastries are nice and warm. Service is fast and friendly. This place is always packed so come with patience it is definitely worth it. I think this location is always busy, at like any and every hour of the day. If it's not like super packed, but definitely crowded. No complaints though because it has plenty of reason to be. The food is super tasty and affordable! Got two orders of the grilled citrus chicken plate, a soughdough french baguette, some potato balls, chicken croquettes, chicken empanadas, two baked ham & cheese croissants, a churro croissant, and a tiramisu cup. Came out to like $60...Even if this place is affordable, it'll add up cause you'll probably by a lot lol. Quality has always been really consistent! Haven't had an item I didn't like here. Perhaps I'd skip on the churro croissant next time because I felt it was fairly hoo hum. Good, just not spectarcular and I didn't want to get it again after trying it once. Loved all the other baked items. Savory, flavorful, and fillinf. Highly recommend the grilled chicken plate! Has an excellent char to it, and the sauce that comes with it is delicious. I don't like the parking structure right next to the store. It's really, really cramped. You'll probably be able to find parking as people are constantly coming and going, but the spaces are really small. It's worth it to park at the structure down the street with much more space and bigger spaces for the peace of mind. And the walk is good for you considering all the carbs you'll be consuming lol. read more

As always, Porto's is a busy bakery as people flood the Porto's bakery area. While I was ordering, Natalie went above and beyond with my order and let me try samples of the pumpkin cold brew matcha since I was hoping that they would be able to do a 25% sugar on the drink. Natalie offered me a sample of the milk and matcha to try in order to see how the flavors would be. The milk for the pumpkin matcha is sweet and the matcha was a thick premade matcha foam. Ultimately, it's still a great drink! The ambiance is loud. TIP: They have restrooms and ample parking. However, parking might be a bit of a struggle with cars! read more

I needed to update this review today. I hadn't been back in a few years, but I can definitely see why this place stays so popular. The service was super friendly from the moment I walked in, and the wait time was quick. I ordered the steak torta and a hot vanilla latte, and both were excellent. The torta was so good I ended up finishing it in my car before even driving home. The space itself is lively, clean, and welcoming. I originally came here years ago for desserts and a birthday cake (which was beautiful), but I was honestly surprised by how good the savory food was this time. I'll definitely be back, great service, great food, and a solid experience all around. read more

How much lead time do they need for a 1 layer custom cake?
The custom cake are 4 days on website
Last time I ordered Porto's for pick up online and they had the full menu, for some reason as I'm trying to do it again all the items are not on the list even yesterday at 10pm when it opened everything wasn't on there. Has something changed?
May be your location is different. When I went to their website from Chicago it was very different than when I was in the neighborhood.
Can you buy lunch items before 11am?
Not the plates or steak,chicken tortas or grilled chicken.
Can you buy any lunch items during breakfast hours and do they offer any Military discounts?
Not the plates or tortas, and no discounts of any kind.
Does anyone know what day is the slowest ? I was thinking either Monday or Tuesday at 8:30am
Portos is always busy, but Tuesday would probably be a little slower.

Order online for a pickup but there's no curbside

Yes they do. There's plenty of seating inside too!
How much is half sheet of milk n berries cake?
Only round cakes sold at Downey location,Glendale sell bigger, but you have to pre-order.

No. You can bypass the main line and go to the online order pick up line.

I believe you can. I've seen pet parents bring their fur babies a few times. Best bet is to ask staff.

Yes, there is a parking structure adjacent to the bakery.
Why isn't the Tuna melt on the menu anymore? Will it be back on the menu?
