*** really good no frills Mexican bakery *** OVERALL No frills is the best way to describe Ponce's Bakery. ENVIRONMENT The sign is noticeable as you drive by the southwest corner of Stewart and Gray Road and Old River School Road. When you walk in, the place is small. It's - again - no frills. The left side has all of the ready-to-go pastries and breads. The rules may change in the future due to COVID, but grab a tray from the counter and some tongs hanging near self-serve area and load it up! SERVICE I asked if the gentleman who served me was the owner (9/4/21). He chuckled and said he was the owner's brother. Not only was he friendly, but had a witty, sarcastic sense of humor. An employee after my own heart. Lol. MY FAVORITE PART... Pan dulce! They offer a wide variety of sweet bread and cookies and more... NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The front door was propped open probably to help cool it down, but as soon as I walked in this bakery was toasty hot. THE GRUB Their oreja (also known as palmiers) were my favorite. Galletas de sandía... the watermelon cookies are not too sweet. They look like really sweet sugar cookies, but they aren't! I like them like that! Others rave about the menudo and tamales. I can't vouch for those, yet, but "if tomorrow comes" I'll update this review. PARKING This plaza gets packed. There really aren't that many parking spots - just a heads up. | Food: 4 | Service: 5 | Environment: 4 | Price: 5 |

Delicious pan dulce and tamales. Friendly staff. Would be nice if they sold their masa preparada.

I'm very picky about the cleanliness in bakeries. This place is very clean. Smells delicious inside. I want to go back and try the Menudo that everyone's talking about. The bolillos are super super soft and delicious. Supports my businesses.

Venue: beautiful, clean, and spacious with plenty of seating for families and friends to gather comfortably. It's conveniently located inside a shopping center with lots of parking available, which made our visit even easier. Ambiance: We absolutely loved the ambiance! The mariachi music playing in the background truly brought the whole experience together and perfectly represented the spirit and name of the location. Food: everything was fresh, delicious, and perfectly balanced in flavor without being overly sweet. We ordered the chocolate croissant, Abuelita's rosca, elote fino, and a fried pulled pork empanada with green sauce. Every item was flavorful and satisfying. The café de olla was warm, comforting, and just the right amount of sweet. Overall, my family and I had a wonderful experience and truly enjoyed our visit. We will definitely be returning for more pan dulce, delicious food, and maybe even try one of the cold brews next time. Highly recommend!

I had been to the one in Laguna Niguel and this one in Little Tokyo is more spacious, with an area where you can eat. I bought an oyako pork shumai, curry pan and spicy curry pan. The shumai was like dumpling filling in a bun. My faves were the curry pan, which were super flavorful and vegetarian. The spicy curry one does have a kick (great for my husband), while I prefer the regular curry as I can't handle spice. Wish I had one closer to me!

You turn right after you walk in, and there it is, tucked away in a quiet corner. I almost missed it but I am so glad I didn't! The place feels super cute inside. They have this cozy little setup with natural lighting and wooden decor. The seating space is tiny with a small amount of seats ,so depending on the traffic you might have to grab your stuff and go. But that I think is what makes it special. Prices feel reasonable for what you get. They highlight using Hokkaido flour in their items with no preservatives, so it will only last about 2 days. I scanned for what was left since I went around 3pm where most of the items were already sold out. I chose the salt and butter bread since it looked fresh and simple. The crust has this nice crisp bite and the inside stayed soft and fluffy! High quality all around. After tax, it came out to be about $4, pretty good for what you get. Even thought it was near closing time, the staff was really friendly. They smiled as they took my order and answered all my questions I had about the menu. That's how I found out about their flour! It felt welcoming as I did not feel like I was just a customer, but a friend. If you're in the area I defintely recommend checking them out! They have many locations from Anaheim, Honolulu to Little Tokyo. The whole experience just hits the spot. Nothing complicated, but solid baked goods in a nice setting.
