Had a craving for pan dulce this morning and decided to stop by as it was on my way home. It was a complete disappointment. I got a few different items: a tres leches slice, concha de vanilla, concha de chocolate, a mantecada, and a bisquet. The mantecada was decent although it had a different taste to it, not gross but unique. Everything else very disappointing. The actual sponge of the tres leches cake was definitely more than 2 days old. The sponge, even with all the milk was dry and flavorless. The bisquet was rock solid, like the tres leches cake it was definitely old stale bread. The conchas were also old. In fact when I tore a piece to eat the sound it made was like tearing a piece of paper. Wouldn't recommend this place. The bread is good, that's why I stopped by today to satisfy my pregnancy craving. As we all know, pregnant woman cannot take medication when sick. We have to ride it out, now imagine with the pandemic how at risk pregnant women are/were. That being said, as I grabbed my tray and utensil to pick my bread. I noticed that the woman was just dusting bread crumbs off the old trays and stacking them back. I was instantly grossed out. The utensils are also just placed back. I stopped and asked her "don't you wash these" she said "yes" at the same time just dusting the bread crumbs and placing trays back for others to grab. I was instantly just flabbergasted that she lied as I visually saw her just place the dirty/touched trays back in front of me. She didn't use any means of sanitizing. I hope you are aware that there are many people who don't wash their hands. So can you imagine the germs that are left to grow on those trays for food to be placed on them and then consumed.... I've been coming here for the past 4 years. Every week at least twice a week. During the week and weekend for bolillos. However I asked the lady who was at there today if there was any fresh bolillos. Because the quantity I need was greater than the quantity they had available. Her replied was very rude. Told me whatever they had there that was it. Take it or leave. I called from the parking lot to asked if they had bolillo available that I need quantity of 40 pieces. This is a good local panaderia. There is not much competition in Downey so there is not much to compare it to the unless you head East or north. We are hard to please though because we had a family bakery for many years. It's worth stopping in and far superior to any local grocery stores. read more

This place is good and cheap! The bread is amazing in the morning. They take credit card with 0.50 charge.

The baked goods are pretty good compared to what you'll get at any Latin American grocery store. The man is really sweet and really cares for his customers. The tamales here are actually really good also!! But come early cause those go faster than anything else. read more

Very Very Very good! Haven't found better bread Mexican Pan Dulce in Downey. I am v. v. picky about my bread, because I love it so much and will drive to countless bakery in the surrounding areas to find good stuff. (I won't eat sh!tty bread- not worth it.) I figure if I"m going to eat bad might as well be good! And I'm happy to report that this bread is good and worth the calories. It is dense showing they don't cheapen it only yeast and cinnamony and yummyness. I don't know at what time their morning bread comes out, but when I've passed around 3ish they seem to be fully stocked so their afternoon -bread must come out sometime before then. The cashier/ store owner was very nice and helpful. I picked out an assortment of 22 pan dulces and paid $15.40. That is a fair average low price for Ian dulce. Her breads are tasty, I'll be back for sure! Heads up this hidden gem hole in the wall so look out for it. read more

I almost missed this location on my down Lakewood. It's a hole I'm a wall, but a gold mine when inside. They have a great selection of vibrant, fresh, tasty Mexican bread. You guys must try the Conchitas for sure with home made coffee. The owners are very authentic and inviting. This is now my to go place for sweet Mexican bread any day. It's a small, little hole in the wall bakery but many delicious baked items to choose from. This is the only bakery that I know of, that sells two types of bolillos, white & wheat. I've had the following: -bolillos -pan de queso (what we call cheesecake but it's nothing like the American version) -cream cheese & jalapeño bread -Mexican cupcakes -individual cake slices And they are all so good! During cold/rainy seasons, the goods fly off the shelf quick so make sure to go early. Two things I don't like: 1. The area, even though it's across the street from Downey Landing, the area is not so good. There's always this kid, no older than 17, asking for money and doesn't like to take no for an answer. 2. The prices are a little much, other bakeries have deals if you buy a dozen of sorted breads or 4 bolillos for $1.25 - not here- all prices are per piece. read more

I have been going to this Bakery for about 3 years. Love there Mexican Bread. I was very disappointed, I made an order of 3 dozen of Tamales 1 week before Christmas for a special event was suppose to pick them up on Friday that week when I arrived a man was there I had never seen before and he could not find my order, he said they may have sold them. He said he would deliver some to my house the next day and never heard from him, they had my cell phone number and no one called to apologize. The man lied to get me out of his face but that is OK, I will never ever do business with them and business like that always break up. They just care about money, not customers.
